I keep getting disconnected off my internet connection before i can finish my comment. i will mail a hard copy of my comments to you. (dot number: w2t61re210 tiresize: p265/70r17)

Sidewall blowouts multiple traveling low speed no collisions (dot number: w2cu tiresize: p255/70r16)

Steering became heavy, pulled over to investigate, tire was bulging all around sidewall. limped along shoulder at 2 or 3 mph and 50 tards later, tire exploded. *ak( dot number: w2t6 tire size: p265/70/17 )

No summary( dot number: tire size: 255-70-r16 )

I had my tires inspected at the sears auto center in odessa, tx. the vehicle had developed a vague roughness at highway speeds. the inspector found depressions in the center of the treads on two of the tires and told me that this indicated that one or more of the belts under the treads had separated. i had all four tires replaced with goodyear tires and i have the original tires in my garage.( dot number: tire size: 255 70 r16 )

There is a "crack/tear" on the upper side wall that i discovered on 8/28/00. i took it to firestone and was informed that it was caused by road hazard; i don't feel comfortable with firestone's response and am worried that it is a defective tire. i have not been involved in a crash with this tire but the "crack/tear" on the tire makes me worried about the safety of my vehicle.( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 )

Three of the four tires failed at less than 500 miles. *ak (dot number: w2t6 tiresize: p265 70r17)

I came home from work and went into the supermarket. when i came out i noticed my right rear tire was almost flat. i put the spare on and the next morning drove up to the local firestone dealer. the firestone dealer said there was a hole between the tread and the sidewall and therefore it couldn't be fixed. they (firestone) told me the tire was not on the recall list so they wouldn't do anything about it. i went to the ford dealer and they told me the same thing. later i saw a report on channel 2 in los angeles about yet another firestone failure and the picture of the hole in the tire they had on tv looked exactly like the hole in my 17" tire. i am suspicious that anything on the road punctured my tire but feel like it was the start of a big problem with the 17" wilderness at tires. i bought a goodyear tire for my spare and today i ordered four michelin tires. you need to do something about all wilderness at tires before more people get injured or killed. ford and firestone should be held accountable for this mess. i am sorry i paid $42,000 for a brand new expedition and less than 7 weeks later have to spend over eight hundred dollars on replacement tires just to feel safe. do something!!!( dot number: tire size: p265/70r17 )

Firestone wilderness tire (p255 70 r16) experienced tread separation and cracking, consumer requests reimbursement. *slc

Tire blew out on highway! supposedly non recalled tires. nhtsa needs to expand recall before more people get hurt!( dot number: tire size: p255/70/r1 )

This tire is not a part of the national recall, however, the tire was beginning to separate and the local firestone distributor replaced the tire under the "warranty". i wanted to inform you of the failure of this model/size of the firestone wilderness at brand.( dot number: tire size: p25570rr16 )

The front two firestone wilderness at p255/70r16 tires on my 2000 ford expedition have the steel belt showing through the tread at several places. interesting that these tires are not 15" and did not come from decatur!( dot number: w2cu1rd369 tire size: p255/70r16 )

While looking over tire, noticed separation and splitting. *ak the firestone wilderness at tire 17", dot #w2t61re169 is splitting and cracking on the sidewall, the consumer feels that the tread could separate at any time. *slc

Significant cracking / splitting has occurred on the 17 inch size. need all four tires included for replacement in recall. immenent safety problem. *ak( dot number: ??? tire size: 17 )

Firestone recall doesn't address all tires sizes, only one size. i can not see why only one size would be affected. i feel that a total recall of all sizes in the affected series should be done. anything lees seems to be an attempt by a major business to pacify washington at the expense of the consumer. please encourage firestone and ford to reconsider this recall. until this is done, i cannot feel confident transporting my family in my 30 day old, 2000 ford expedition with 17" firestone wilderness at tires.( dot number: tire size: 265r75-17 )

I experienced an abnormal sidewall blow-out on a tire with less then 10,000 miles on it. the blow out caused damage to the rim and hub of the wheel. i am greatly concerned that i may have the same experience soon with the other four tires. i contacted general tires and they want me to sent the tire back east and wait to get something done. the now tire, rim and hub cap cost me 325.00 out of my own pocket and i am going to have to wait to get it from detroit on special order. i would like the dot to inspect the tire prior to releasing it back to general to determine if a recall should be established. like i stated in the beginning of this section the sidewall blow out was very abnormal.( dot number: tire size: 17 )

All four tires on vehicle show 'bruising' on sidewall near tread. the two front tires show 'feathering', cracks around sidewall tread. none of the four tires will sustain proper air pressure as required by manufacturer to avoid accident, injury or death. june 6,2000 three tires took 8 psi, one took 10 psi, air to bring pressure to conformity as stated on driver's side door sticker side sticker issued by ford motor. on july 8, 2000 three tires took 6 psi air, one 8 psi air. on august 8,2000 three tires took 16 psi air, one 18 psi air. this is in accordance with the mfr. psi of 44.( dot number: w2cu tire size: p255/70r16 )

This is my 4th new ford vehicle that i purchased and second expedition (last one 97) i never had issues with tier separation in my life. on this vehicle i had 2 tires separation in 3 months. i have not received acceptable response from ford dealers (new ford vehicles have 1 year/12 months warranty on tire) and most of the dealer would not even accept the standard warranty. firestone dealers refuse to do anything for me. earnhardt ford replaced one of my tiers and i am going to replace remaining tiers at my own cost (with different brand). this not acceptable from my point of view. ford should pay for my cost.. this is my last ford vehicle. *ak (tiresize: 265x70x17)( dot number: tire size: 265x70x17 )

Pe00020, original equipment, 2000 ford expedation, all four tires pressure keeps lowering, and causing the vehicle to pull to right, and it is very hard to control vehicle. *ak the dealer suggested to inflat front tires to 30 lbs rather than manufacturer's specification and it worked. *yh

We were traveling on i-40 returning from a trip to colorado and had a blow out about 20 miles west of weatherford, ok. the tire was on a brand new car with only 4500 miles. we had checked the tires when we left colorado that morning and they were fine. when the tire blew, the car was very hard to control and pitched side to side wildly. my husband was able to regain control of the car and pull off the road. when road side assistance arrived, the man commented that the tire did not look like a normal blow out and that we should have it checked. i took the car back to the ford dealership who assured me that there was nothing wrong with the tire other than a normal road hazard (this also prevented me from collecting on the tire warranty). he also was not concerned about how the car reacted to the blown tire. i do not feel that i would have been able to control the car if i had been driving. i was not pleased with the lack of concern about my comments. i spoke to at least 2 friends who can testify under oath that i made comments about my concerns about the quality of the tires and my concern about the lack of control after the tire failed. these comments were made during july 24-28 before any of the current information about ford and firestone was made public. i regret that i did not keep the tire that blew. i hope that you will expand your investigation to include all firestone wilderness at tires as well as the ford expedition. *ak( dot number: vncu 1rd 4 tire size: p255/70r16 )

Dixie donelson had only purchased her ford expedition the month prior (early june), and was just underway for a trip to visit her daughter in colorado. the original police report documents her losing control of her vehicle within the first 40 minutes of her trip. further observations of the crash site have revealed tread remnants of new firestone suv tires. however, the expedition caught fire and all remaining tires burned to the extent of not being identifiable. dixie had told her duaghter she had new firestone tires, but we have had little success in determining the actual tire model.( dot number: tire size: (unknown) )

On july 10,2000 my family and i were traveling to the airport when our tire separated we were traveling east bound on i-80 approximately 3 miles from the gwb at the time we thought it very strange the way the tire had separated we felt very fortunate that we were able to pull off the roadway and no one was injured. needless to say we missed our flight and had to take a different one. we were out of the country for a week and since the tire was under warranty we got another firestone wilderness at for 1/2 price little did we know that the safety of those very exact tires was in question, until we heard it on the news recently. thought i should report it. thank you. sincerely, lisa j. gallagher tires. *ak( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 )

Tire suddenly blew out during routine driving, with no warning. a tire technician said it looked like the sidewall failed because it had bulged out and the tire was unrepairable. *ak( dot number: 027582 tire size: p265/70r17 )

Aug 7, 2000 , i-40 , 35 miles west of little rock, ar. i had been traveling 3 hours of a 9 hour trip. i was going 70 mph. left rear firestone tire tread completely seperated from outside sidewall. side wall is still in tact around rim. came very close to rolling vehicle. went to company owned firestone store and requested replacement on 7/8/00. i was told there were no problems with firestone tires and there were no need to inspect the remaining tires. they offered me $30 off a new tire. i declined. i am very worried about the remaining tires. i travel for a living on interstate highways.( dot number: w2cu tire size: p255/70r16 )

The tire blew while driving around 70 mph. the recall started shortly after we had it replaced. we asked bill currie ford to replace it under warrantee because it looked like a defect not a regular blow out. the tread was completely seperated from the tire. they refused saying the tires were not under warrantee. we should have reported this when the recall was anounced, but when we finally decided to replace all five firestone tires ford gave us your website to report our original blow out. we do not have the tire that blew but we did store the four remaining firestone tires, with the same dot number. Pe-00-020; rental vehicle 2000, ford expedition, tire size not available, and dot number not available. when driving in state of arizona on a very hot day at 55 mph right rear tire sidewall blewout. *ak

Was traveling 65mph when a loud pop sound was heard coming from back. got off freeway to check & noticed tire was flat. left rear tire was the problem. sidewall had blown out. exchanged tire with the spare. took tire to tire shop & was informed the had hit an object & did not get tire exchanged. firestone wilderness at p265/70r17 1,000 miles. kept the tire.*ak

Tire less than one week old, traveling midday on freeway at 65 mph with clear unobstructed view ahead, clean dry road, heard loud "pop" come from rear of car, tire flat at exit just a few miles later, ford dealer declined responsibility, referred us to firestone dealer who suggested highway hazard puncture even though we protested that no hazard was seen by either person in car, tire dealer tried to repair but bubble on side prevented safe repair, we bought another brand-new tire to replace defective tire( dot number: 027582 tire size: p265/70r17 )

Road conditions: dry, flat, little to no traffic. on hwy 249 just north of spring cypress, where the hwy ended and became a 4 lane flat hwy. approximately 4:00-4:30 in the afternoon. back passenger tire on 2000 ford expedtion, firestone wilderness at, tread separation causing a blowout, and causing me to veer to the right side of road. was able to get vehicle safely to shoulder and in the driveway of a dodge dealership. approximate speed was around 45-50 mph. no driver error, no road hazard (no rips, tears, punctures, etc. found on tire) and tire was not over/under inflated. looked as if someone with a scapel just removed the side flat part of the tire where the lettering is from the tread portion that touches the road. luckily i was at a speed that i could control in good driving conditions with little traffic in the area, or i could have had a serious accident. i had to use all my strength to keep wheel to the left as the truck continued to go to the right. firestone dealer did not want to replace for free (as stated under my warranty), but they did eventually. they acknowledged there was no driver error, road hazard, or tire misuse, but refused to state on the receipt the cause was a flawed/faulty tire. replaced with the same type of tire. vehicle only 7 months old with around 7000-7500 miles on it at the time. tread on tire was around an 10-11 i believe the firestone dealer said. firestone dealer kept the faulty tire to send to manufacturer for testing. *ak( dot number: )

Tire can't be ballanced repetive times tried, ford states tires defective (tiresize: p27560r-17)( dot number: tire size: p27560r-17 )

Pe02000, tire tread separation: while driving about 50-55 mph tire on the rear passenger's side disintedgrated. driver was able to control vehicle. one other passenger was in the truck. no one was hurt. tire was a firestone, wilderness, p25570r16, original equipment. ford was contacted about the tire, but nothing was done. please list dot # and any other information. *ak

Tire blow out at 65 mph. there was nothing hit in the roadway - nothing visible on new road with no potholes and no noise of striking an object. just the sudden and complete loss of tire pressure. upon inspection there was huge hunks of the tire tread completely torn away from the tire and a hole approximately one foot by three inches wide.( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 )

Front tires are cupping, uneven tire wear, vehicle inspected and aligned, possible tire related defect (no make/model of tires provided). *cj

While traveling on the interstate at 55 mph, the consumer heard a noise, then saw smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. suddenly the vehicle started to shake, the consumer lost control, veered out of his lane and went towards a service station. to keep from entering the station he rolled over. the consumer sustained neck and mouth injuries. it was discovered that the tread had separated from the tire. *ak *sc *jb

Tire went flat for no discernble reason with 200+ miles on it. firestone dealer was unable to determine why it would hold air. i replaced it with a brand new tire at my expense.( dot number: tire size: 255/75r16 )

Firestone wilderness/atx tire went flat while driving at 65 mph. when consumer went out to inspect the problem, sidewall tread was separated, like some one had cut it. ford and firestone has been contacted. *ak (tire size 255/70r16)
