Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford expedition. the contact stated that the air conditioning failed. the contact had the compressor and all of the air conditioning unit components replaced, but to no avail. the mechanic that performed the repairs stated that a relay caused the failure. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 196,000. *tr
2000 expedition windshield was replaced in november leak caused vehicle to do crazy things like try to start when i turned the headlights on with key out of ignition and had a burning smell. this morning vehicle wouldn't start after rain. after jump starting vehicle overdrive light on gearshifter handle was blinking and vehicle wouldn't go into gear feels like you're driving with brakes on. no problems moving in reverse. problem started out of nowhere, also lights flicker when tried to jumpstart. connected cables wouldn't start lights went dead repositioned cables lights came on after doing this for over an hour car finally started with the above noted problems. *tr
I've had several problems with the electrical system of my 2000 ford expedition after it rains. today my alarm would not work so i had to use the keyless pad to unlock my vehicle, but it does not work to lock the vehicle. when i open the door there are dinging noises and you can hear the fan running in the motor. the suv will not start, it tries to turn over but ends up failing and ending with clicking noise. the air bag light will stay lit and give me warning chimes. this has happened several times and i have managed to start it once it dries up . i've read many complaints on this issue and it is time that ford does a recall........we can not all be lying!! *tr
With no warning spare tire cable snapped while driving down road causing spare tire to fall out and strike rear wheel of vehicle, then flew off side of road. discussion with ford indicated this is unheard of and they wanted $300+ to repair. discussions with multiple other shops (not ford) indicate this does happen with this type of spare mount. repairs completed for under $150. i am concerned that spare can come out and once loose hit other vehicles or property/persons. *tr
Electrical problems on 2000 ford expedition. blinker lights inop. speedometer tuning on and off, radio station/clock lights don't work. radio sometimes wont work. rear windshield wipers don't work. *nm
Vehicle's radio, heat remained on even with keys out of the ignition.
I purchased a 2000 ford expedition eddie bauer suv new from a local dealer in the los angeles area. current mileage is 127,300. this concerns a very serious safety problem that has happened twice since we have owned this vehicle. this vehicle is only used to commute to work, never off-road or abused in any manner. a few months into our ownership, we were traveling on the freeway and going over a overpass at 60 miles an hour the spare tire dropped off the suv and rolled across four lanes of traffic at night. luckily, it did not kill someone. then about 8 or 9 months ago it happened again just backing out of our driveway. inspecting the problem it is clear the steel cable hoist holding the tire up under the rear is breaking under stress. it is clear this is a design defect and a very real safety issue. we have taken it to the local dealership and i have called their 800 number. they claim the vehicle is outside the warranty period. i say this is a safety issue that ford should not only fix but should redesign the whole mounting system to better support the tire. the tire and rim should have a positive locking device that securely holds the tire in place so the steel cable hoist is used only to raise and lower the tire when the vehicle is at rest. ford will not put this in writing. i have filed complaints on this issue here in california with the dmv and other agencies - they are referring me to mediation boards to settle it financially. but the ford fix of installing another steel cable hoist system is not safe. i am considering a third party mounting system to the outside of the vehicle because i do not want this to happen again. presently, i am driving without the spare tire because we do not want another ford fix and it would be unsafe carrying it inside the vehicle. you are my last chance of resolving this safety issue. my next step will be to pursue this complaint directly with the public media. that is how serious i am taking this problem. *tr
Windshield leaking water which blew out fuse box and gem causing erratic behavior in windshield wipers, radio, heater, air conditioner, overdrive, transmission, speedometer, odometer, rpm gauge, and it also led to our pcm having to be replaced. replaced windshield, fuse box, gem, pcm. cost us 1700.00 dollars. two weeks later after a rainy night it is at the dealer again. *nm
I received info from nhtsa that there are performance issues regarding my ford expedition. these include the failure of rear windshield wiper to work and failure of radio lights. *nm
Consumer concerns regarding the jack equipment that came with her 2000 ford expedition.***no answer required***.*mr the consumer stated the jack did not fully lift the tire off of the ground. additionally, the jack was highly unstable and when other vehicles passed by the vehicle rocked dangerously. *jb
Purchased 2000 ford expedition-new - at 33,000 the transmission started slipping from 1st-2nd. took vehicle in to local dealer was rebuilt under warrenty. took vehicle in at 58,000mi. for the 60,000 mile service (pre-empting a vacation road trip) while on the trip the transmission went completely out--only 25,000 miles on the re-built tranny. the vehicle had 3 children--1 with autism and the other a newborn. the vehicle had died in an intersection of an emergency room and busy street. i could only go in reverse in order to get out of the intersection leaving me stranded in a left turn lane. i tried all greers from low on up and tried to engage any of my 4x4 capabiliies without anything. the vehicle was pushed out the intersection and had to be towed to a dealership in that town visiting. it is still presently there coming up on 14 days. i was given a loner car by a family member in order to get back home with my fmaily. the dealership it is presently at has again rebuilt the tranny-free of charge-due to still being under a 3yr/36,000 mi. warrenty that was placed on the 1st rebuilt tranny. now i am told that almost everything inside the tranny was destroyed and was either rebuilt or replaced. ford felt that is was still cheaper to rebuild instead of replacing with a new tranny. i am now given a 12mon/12,000mile warrenty on this 2nd rebuild. at this point, my autistic child is having problems with the thought of getting back in this vehicle (mind you i still don't have it yet), not alone the safety concerns i have with driving this vehicle. the safety of this vehicle is most definately a concern of me and my family. i don't trust this vehicle--what happens if it dies again and this time i am not so lucky in a major intersection !?
I own 2000 ford expedition. just found out the windshield is leaking, causing water to get into fuse box and gem module under dash causing major electrical problems. the 4-way flashers came on while driving; the blower stayed on even after removing the key from the ignition, etc. had windshield replaced today and it only took 1 minute to break the seal. the repair guy said it should take at least 20 minutes and that if we would have had a wreck the windshield would have fallen out. i've done extensive research on internet and found this is a very common problem in 1997-2001 f150's, expeditions and navigators, but especially the 2000 expedition. the seal used by ford around the windshield dry rots causing the leak. service man at ford acknowledged the problem but says no recall has been issued. *ak
Consume rparked the vehicle an d 10 minutes later returned to vehicle and found it smoking. smoke coming from passenger side of engine compartment. on the way in to work the radio was cutting in and out.*ak
Prior to our 2000 ford expedition being recalled for the cruise control problems, we experienced electrical problems with the interior lighting group; radio, windshield wipers, etc. after a rain, the windshield wipers would not work and the blower motor would remain on or be on without ignition activation. the battery has run down because of this! we recently experienced the problems again and took the vehicle to our mechanic who recommended an electrical specialist. he diagnosed the windshield seal leak as a contributing factor to the junction box-gem module malfunctioning. *tr
dt: contact states whenever it was raining the windshield wipers would not work, only after the vehicle was stopped. also, there were electrical issues; the doors would unlock while driving, and radio went on and off. while driving the contact noticed while it was raining the windshield would leak. the windshield and part of the electrical system were replaced.*ak
Spare tire winch cable snapped causing spare tire to detach and bounce away behind the car while driving. nobody was hurt in this incident, but i believe this is a major safety defect.*ak
After taking my 2000 ford expedition for a routine transmission service and brake job at al packer west in royal palm beach, fl, the transmission went out approximately five to seven miles from the dealership where it was serviced. i had it towed back to the dealership. in order for them to repair it, i was told i would have to pay $529 after i had just paid them #300 for the routine service and brake job. i live 35 miles from the dealership, and drove having no problems with the transmission. when i picked it up; however, my transmission failed. after researching with other mechanics, i feel that it was their error and their products liability insurance should have covered the expenses. *la
Problems with headlights blowing out, replaced bulb, still no high beam. lights completely went out one night. had to have family member follow me home. battery detached to get lights inside off. lights originally went off when i plugged my cell phone in for charging; something that i have always done in my prior vehicles. vehicle cutting off, shop states that it is due to problem with emission. ac runs hot when vehicle keep turning off. vehicle acceleration is bad. vehicle even when running on interstate appear to be having difficulty maintaining speed, appears to be wanting to cut off. vehicle cuts off in middle of traffic for no particular reason. started putting premium gas, but gas smells are bad when i run vehicle in garage to warm up. shop thinks that once charge ac may improve. *la
