Car caught on fire in the middle of the night, reason unknown but apparently it had to do with a recall on the cruise control switch . we never received any letter's or notices of the following recall. vehichle was destroyed and we also had property damage to carport and house totalling $40,000. *tt

I have a 2000 ford expedition, this is the second time a spark plug has blown out of the cylinder, i did some searching and found thousands of other people with the same problem, the last one was a ways from home and i drove it home, just found out that the car could have caught fire. it's time ford did something about this potentially dangerous problem and i hope you can help. thanks john bendik *tr

As i was driving my 2000 ford expedition down my steep driveway, i felt a hard bump and felt like i hit something. i looked out my rearview mirror and saw my tire rolling down the street! the tire was our full-size spare that had been secured under the truck. the happened last year, 2007 around spring time. luckily, i was just coming out my own driveway and not driving down the freeway with my children. i would have filed this sooner but just found this website today. we have not taken the truck to the dealer to see what broke off but now that i see we may need to for the cruise control recall from 2005..we were in south korea and never received any recall notifications over there. anyway, if you've had numerous complaints similar to mine, it may be worth checking into before someone else loses a spare in the middle of a crowded freeway. thank you, christine holloway *tr

Traveling @ 65 mph on i-580 in richmond, california, my spare tire fell from its cable held bracket below the frame where it is secured on the vehicle, bounced on the ground, then struck the bottom of the rear bumper, which wedged the tire between the bumper and ground, causing the rear of the suv to catapult off the ground. the force and pressure on the tire being wedged between the vehicle and the ground caused the tire to pop from behind the vehicle and proceed across three lanes of traffic at a high speed, eventually ending up in the center divider of the freeway. i was able to maintain control, but barely. there is damage to the undercarriage of the truck at the rear bumper, plus the stress and difficulty of keeping the truck in a straight line while trying to come to a stop after the rear tires were lifted off the ground approx. 6-8". the press fittting on the cable that holds the spare tire in place separated cleanly from the cable. the cable did not break or fray, just the press- fitted coupling came loose and separated from the cable, allowing the spare tire to fall to the ground. this spare tire has never been removed from the spare position since the vehicle was new, and of course,is the original equipment spare tire that comes from the factory, and the vehicle is maintained to factory specs, no modifications, no alterations, all original equipment. i secured the parts that i could find from the highway. i contacted the local ford dealer, michael stead ford, of san rafael, on july 13th and ordered a replacement spare tire winch and cable set for the expedition. the part arrived yesterday and was installed. i do have the old winch, cable, and clamp that holds the spare tire in place. certainly there must be a better and more secure way to secure the cable to the fitting that supprots the spare tire under the car then this small fitted unit that in my case came loose.

Fire - 2000 ford expedition caught on fire while parked in my driveway. the vehicle was parked for about 2 hours before it went up in flames. the vehicle was totaled.

In june, my 2000 ford expedition spontaneously caught on fire in my driveway. it had been parked for well over an hour. it appears as if the fire was electical. fire damage was caused to my home as well as a vehicle parked inside the garage. as of yet, my insurance has not settled with me despite the truck being totalled. ford motor company has not returned my calls either. a fire investigation was done by the north las vegas fire department but cause was undetermined. after doing some investigating of my own, i have found many people who have had the same problem. i would appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. thank you.*ak

I own a 2000 ford expedition. i was driving down the road 2 days ago when the spare tire winch assembly failed and the spare tire fell off the underside of the vehicle, bounced up and hit the vehicle and then rolled down the street. fortunately, no one was behind me and it did not cause an accident. has there been any recalls on this type of problem? *nlm

Noticed peeling, flaking paint on hood. reported to dealer (regency ford, metairie, la) on april 23, 2003. eventhough it appear to be a manufacturers defect, they would not assume responsibility because vehicle was not under warranty.

The manufacturing defect a on 2000 ford expedition which led to the consumer's unfortunate accident. *dt *jb

Deal claimed asht ray melted inside due to a cigar -- no joke, but refused to replace the warranty item or report the defect to ford motor company.*ak

Consumer heard a pinging noise coming from engine, called dealer to make an appointment, closed appointment, it was thursday, and on wendesday night engine shutdown without any warning. took to dealer, and they said oil had not been changed for a year. consumer stated oil light never came on. consumer felt warning lights may be defective. *ak

On engine start, at 1,935 miles the oil pressure gauge drop to zero and the "engine oil" light illuminated. i turned the engine off to check the oil level on the dip stick. the dip stick indicated below "min". i poured 3 qts. of oil in the engine and drove to the nearest dealer to have service. the dealer was not fully staffed since it was a saturday. i added 2 more qts. of oil and drove home. i returned to the dealer on monday for a leak check. the service technicians found no leaks but added another 3 qts. of oil. i was told to watch the oil level and that ford could do nothing until the engine is "broken in" which is at 7,500 miles. 1 day later i returned to the dealership with a "bluish/gray" smoke coming from the tailpipe. the asst. service manager said that was a good sign but to continue watching the oil until 7,500 miles at which time they would be able to start monitoring the engine. *ak

Vehicle would shut down periodically/ without any prior warning. dealer does not have remedy. . *ak dealer has replaced components to alleviate problem, but still no remedy. *tt

When traveling on the highway, vehicle cuts off without prior warning, also lights on dashboard flashed on and off, dealership was aware of problem. *ak the vehicle cuts off while driving due to crank sensor failure. while driving right rear wheel jingles. vehicle cuts off while accelerating, after stopping the vehicle restart and idles up to 1100 rpm at times. consumer states transmission slips, the dash was rattling and the pedal button on the left steering wheel was installed backwards. *yh
