The abs braking system on the ford escape hybrid failed unexpectedly and without warning at only 60k miles. the vehicle was in motion, and all the lights came on at once and the system read "check brakes." the brakes felt loose, and i took it a mechanic the next day. they thought that pressure was getting sent unevenly to both sides of the vehicle, so they flushed the brakes. however, they discovered total abs failure, and a $3000 fix associated with it. this is a known issue all over the internet. there are facebook groups advocating for a recall of this vehicle. we were lucky that we didn't crash into someone. the brakes only work if you apply extreme force to them, and even then they get loose and the car starts to roll away. these issues are becoming extremely prevalent now in 2020 that the 2008-2011 era of this hybrid is getting a bit older. that being said, this model only has 60k miles on it and should not have had brake failure. http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/escapehybrid/brake-abs-warning-light-problems.php https://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5850/ford/escape-hybrid/ford-escape-hybrid-brake-problems/p4

Driving in city traffic to the grocery store 2 miles from my house, average speed 35 mph, went to stop and brake pedal went almost to floor with very little/no stopping power almost had an accident.stopped at store shut car off and then went home, it was still the same.let the car sit a couple hours then used my pro scan tool to look for codes.no codes found either stored or engine running.road tested the car with scan tool hooked up and no codes found and the brakes were operating normally.this is the second time in 6 months this has occurred.bought this 2009 ford escape xls new in 2009,it only has 30,000 miles.the first time it did this was in sept.2019 and then yesterday on feb.8 2020.i have researched this thoroughly and there are many reports of the same problem for this vehicle.this problem has been identified as the abs module due to defective internal valve seals that corrode and allow fluid pressure to by-pass causing the brake pedal to go almost to the floor similar to a faulty master cylinder.i have read that currently ford has a recall on some vehicles with the same problem but different models.the average ...

Most states require trailers of 3,000lb gvwr, and some states only 1,500lb, to have an independent braking system on at least one axle of the trailer. ford sells vehicles with factory tow packages rated at 3,500lb, but does not supply even an optional electric brake controller. further, they don't supply a "plug 'n' play" harness for an aftermarket controller as do many manufacturers. this situation has prevailed from at least 2013 onward. when we purchased our 2020 escape sel with factory towing, we fully expected that this shortcoming would have been resolved. it has not. and that it has existed for two generations of the escape spanning eight model years leads me to conclude ford is willfully ignoring the laws of many states, and potentially endangering the drivers of these cars and other drivers sharing the roadways.

I was driving in wet weather and slid on some leaves while braking. this caused an activation of the anti lock braking system (abs). after the abs event i had a difficult time stopping the car. the brake pedal felt spongy and it took all of my effort on the brake pedal to bring the car to a stop. this spongy brakes persisted for several miles. i immediately took my car to my neighborhood mechanic. he checked the brake system and could find nothing wrong. the brake system had returned to normal by itself.

Within a month of purchasing vehicle, mileage 67,000, complete brake system failure. could have been fatal and will be if not corrected. many exact complaints found online. vehicle failed to stop coming to light. had to pull off the side of the road into a wooded area for the vehicle to stop. felt like vehicle was sliding on road. later realized it was a abs system failure not sliding. abs light is on. brake system needs service light on. emergency brake light stays on. approximately 75% of the time, when first driving vehicle, only the service brake display is on. the vehicle will begin to buck/stutter, steering wheel shakes, and traction control warning light illuminates. after accelerating, that stops and returns to what i described.above. i read since there were no fatalities reported ford will not recall. i am certain there have been fatalities due to this problem, just not identified.

Had to make an emergency stop. the abs system engaged and there was no accident. afterwards i had no brake. car has been in four different repair shops and i have spent over $2000. i have had front brakes and rear brakes replaced, master cylinder replaced and a used abs module replaced. still do not have proper brake. found service notice online from ford #19s54 which addresses this issue on some ford vehicles and states a recall is in progress.. escape is not included but problems are the same. similar parts are used on many ford vehicles. escape should be included in recall. my car is useless without brakes.
