Problems with 2014 Ford Escape UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2014 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 62 430 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2014 Ford Escape

I was driving on the highway and tried to accelerate but my rpm's dropped and the car wouldnt accelerate. i hit the gas pedal a few times and it jerked and everything went back to normal. i pulled over to a gas station to get gas, left the gas station and was at a stop light. when i tried to accelerate at the stop light my rpm's revved up for a second then dropped. wouldnt accelerate, no rpm's. got into another gas station parking lot put transmission fluid in thinking that was the issue. after putting that in and the car being off, i started it back up and put it in drive. it took off like there was no issues. got across the street and pulled into another parking lot and i loss my rpm's again and no acceleration. had to call a tow cuz after that the car wouldnt go anywhere.

This vehicle has a recall, i bought it and i was innocent of this until i almost lost my life of fear when the car went on in smoke completely, ford i never wanted to send the appointment for the recall of the car the car is getting hot and voting an abundant smoke and you don't keep the engine oil it feels like i burn the oil i need a solution i must pay the money to the dealer and i can't drive the car to work i need help please

Transmission went at 80k miles, extended warranty doesn't cover. no warnings only warning i got was when it was took late. no way to check transmission fluid as it is a sealed transmission. it's going to cost me $6k to get it fixed.

Current issue is head gasket overheated and blew. coolant is internally leaking into the engine. car blows out a ton of exhaust while driving and has the smell of coolant in it. i can't even drive on the highway anymore because the car overheats and limits my speed to 45 mph. sometimes i have to pull over just to let it cool down. every time the car starts up it vibrates so much that its quite annoying. sometimes the car shuts off right after i start it in the morning, right after a crazy burst of vibration. a little over a month ago i started my car and it vibrated so much and then so much oil leaked from my car, exhaust blew out dark black smog and smoke was coming from my hood. car is really loud on idle, never been in a car so loud with so much vibration all throughout the car. car constantly overheats and has no power when driving. car vibrates insanely when i'm idle at a red light. check engine light goes on and off every other day. my mechanic has done research on the car and says to get rid of it, it's not even worth fixing; he says you'll end up spending just as much money fixing this in the long run than just buying a new car. my mechanic said fixing the head gasket wont solve your problem, you need an entire new engine and cylinder block. we've been doing a lot of research on this car/model and everyone's having the same issues and can't really get down to the bottom line on what's wrong with the vehicle. i'm curious if everyone has the same problem with this car/model that there's no major recall on it. instead people are driving around with a loud car that constantly vibrates, leaks coolant into the engine and having to constantly take it to the shop.

2 months ago, my car died in as i was exiting the interstate. transmission issues - repaired after 2 months. drove it out of town and second day being out of town engine light on. brought it back to mechanic and transmission mechanic said there was no trans code present, but following codes present p1116 and p0234. unable to drive car again until light engine light is off and this repair is out of pocket again.

We were merging into a very busy intersection and the car wouldn't move suddenly. the engine would rev, but would not move. we put the car in park, shut off the engine, started again and it would lurch forward and go for a couple hundred feet and then die again. we had cars swerving around us at high rates of speed. my wife was crying and terrified. it turns out to be the transmission. i looked online this morning and saw endless complaints about the 2014 escape but no recall.

Car was running fine when it just caught fire. no warning signs. driver lucky to be alive

When driving straight ahead on a smooth highway 215 outside salt lake city, the forward moveable sunroof panel blew out. it sounded like a loud explosion or gunshot in the car. we were not near an overpass, nor were any other cars in the vicinity - rock or debris did not cause this. car is garaged and well maintained. 5 years old with 33,334 miles.

Broken flywheel on 2014 ford escape. auto shop believes this should of been a recall since the new flywheel had a completely new look. so they believe it was changed due to others having this issue and did this to avoid a recall.

I'll be driving, the it will stop and throw up the oil light, battery light and the airbag light. i took it to the ford dealership on 122nd st in portland, they said they couldn't find anything wrong because it wasn't throwing any codes. now i'm sitting on the side of the road and the error code says engine fault service now. i've had regular maintenance on the car so not sure why this is happening. cars/suvs shouldn't just stop working while you're driving them.

After starting ignition and car idols/driven heavy gas/emissions smell fills cabin when using heat/a/c or defrost systems. engine light sometimes goes on. car has 35,100 mi. took car to queens ny ford service center 4 hours later $400 later, changed cabin filter and sprayed fragrance on it. told must use cabin recycle air function. ford owners manual doesnt say must use and in no other car have had to must use this function. i have a case# cas24667125 and appt for 11/6/19. ford built this car tech's should know how to fix this!

Rear driver door latch will not latch causing the door to fly open when driving.

Takata recall-2014 ford escape transmission stopped working while driving on highway. no lights no notice instant failure. get all regular oil changes and maintenance

Just got in one day and the led panel was a white screen, could see any information whatsoever 15c03 ' reprogram instrument panel cluster ' 2014-2015 ford escape ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 ford escape vehicles manufactured may 19, 2014, to february 6, 2015, and transit connect vehicles manufactured may 11, 2014, to july 2, 2015. due to a software incompatibility issue, the instrument panel cluster be inoperative including a blank multiple functional display (mfd), and non-functional warning chimes, messages and warning lights. specific warning chimes, messages and warning lights. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 101, 'control and displays.' consequence: if the instrument cluster is inoperative, the driver of may not be warned of safety related issues such as low tire pressures or disabled air bags, increasing the risk of personal injury or a crash

While driving through the city my car overheated to the point where the engine shut down it broke down. it all happened within 5-10 seconds.. i never had overheating issues with my car. i had it serviced with ford for an oil change and they topped off my fluids a week prior this accident. luckily my car broke down not too far away from the dealership so i was able to get to the dealership service quick. after 2 days later the dealership called me and told me they would need to install a coolant level sensor system kit and it would cost me $1300 plus tax. that happened on friday and i needed a weekend to think about it. over the weekend i found out that ford escape has a recall for this exact issue but my vin number is not reflecting that. upon more research about my vehicle i found out that it was assembled in the factory and on the date that the recall states it. the recall number for this issue is 17s09. my local ford in north charleston , sc says that this car should have been recalled for this issue because my car was missing the sensor that would have alarmed me if my car was overheating days or weeks before.

The transmission went out the first few weeks i had the vehicle. then the rearview camera went out now my radio has gone out the back windshield doesn't work. it has been one thing after another and i haven't had the vehicle a year. some of the thing happened in motion and in park. mostly in motion.

I was driving on the freeway going north. i already sat in backed up traffic for 1 1/2 hours with no issues from my ford escape. i put my blinker on and got into the right middle lane. i was going maybe 15 mph and my car just died. no warning, no puttering, no sign of distress at all. i put my hazard lights on and put it in park so i could take the key out and try and restart the car. it wouldn't turn over or anything. my dash board lights were all turning on but absolutely not a sound from the engine or anything. i was stuck in the middle lane of the freeway late at night. i had to call state patrol because it was an emergency. i couldn't take my car out of park so i had to sit there and wait for state patrol and a tow truck. i was there for almost an hour. i was honked at, flipped off, and even threatened. worst experience on my life. after we got it towed the guy tried to see if he could start it and it started right up for him. all he did was put the key in the ignition. didn't putter or anything afterwards and stop no light. no one has any clue what could be wrong.

Coolant issues similar to those included in the part 573 safety recall 17v-209, though my vehicle was manufactured a few weeks later and not included in that recall, as well as electrical issues that were similar to other recalls that didn't include my vin. in june 2019, it started with the vehicle not turning on or shifting out of park intermittently.. work was performed and then a week later p0303 cylinder misfire.. again work was completed, the code came back, and now ford is recommending replacing the engine but will not cover the costs due to being 5 years and in excess of 60k miles. took for 2nd opinion and ran out of coolant and overheated less than 5 miles away from ford dealership, even though they just replaced the coolant overflow tank and filled it.. continues need coolant every few miles. seems crazy that a vehicle that stayed on top of routine maintenance and has not been involved in an accident or excessive conditions would need a new engine at less than 94k miles and is the consumer's responsibility to foot the bill. i've already spent almost $3k on this issue and ford verbally told me just the engine would be around $7-8k without labor. they also had their sales department call me and offer to "take a couple hundred off a new vehicle" for my current one. very disheartening to hear that when i've taken care of the vehicle as the sole owner, less a few recommended tire rotations.

This vehicle should have been included in a 2017 safety recall related to overheating and coolant leaks, but it was not. in february 2019, it overheated with little warning on the freeway, blowing a hole in the motor (at 62k miles). ford rejected request for assistance, so repair was done by independent mechanic (motor replaced). three months later, during freeway drive, message appeared several times stating power was being cut to keep engine from overheating (no indication engine actually was overheating). ultimately, message appeared warning to pull off the road immediately. overheated engine completely melted a bracket. mechanic identified a burnt-out sensor but could not say why it happened. i secured two dealership diagnostics. first conducted comprehensive diagnostic and concluded a waste gate was stuck open; no mention of damaged sensor. second said the degas bottle was cracked and declined to perform pressure test; no mention of damaged sensor or waste gate issue. i cannot afford all these random repairs and in any case, do not feel this car can be put into a safe condition for driving.

Intermittently when you start your vehicle, the instrument cluster gauges and information display may be inoperative. in addition, all warning lamps and indicators, and audible warnings may also not function. intermittent stalling, and increases of speed without user interference

The engine splash shield lost its bolts & fell to the ground dragging underneath the car while driving (the back stayed attached, but the front was down on the ground - like a snow shovel). i was driving, in motion & heard the dragging noise.

My car was serviced for the coolant related recall. less than a month later the low coolant light came on and i brought the vehicle back in for service. they didn't see a leak and believed there must have been an air bubble in the system that worked itself out and added more coolant. less than a month after that the low coolant light came back on again and i brought the vehicle in to be serviced. they determined that there's an internal leak and coolant had been leaking into the engine. they have recommended replacing the engine and say that this issue is different than the coolant related recall that my car had been originally serviced for. this car is a 2014 with less than 100k miles on it. it should not need a new engine.

I took my car for recall on cooling system to republic ford in springfield, missouri on april1st and pick it up on april 4th on april 10th alert come up low on antifreeze so i took my car back to the service department ( kris bishop) service advisor and i explain to him my problem waited about 30 minutes and i told me i am ready to go and the problem fixed. i trusted him when i went home and checked the antifreeze level was and still under the minimum. i called the dealer shop and the lady who answer the call transfer my all to service ring for good 5 minutes and lost the call. if the location of the antifreeze storage easy to get to it i just go buy some and refill it my self. i understand my vehicle is not bought from them and i use them for my oil change doesn't mean tread me this way.

Low engine coolant recall no. 17s09 was repaired on april 2, 2019 (mileage on car was (63,179 miles). begin to get low engine on dash board on september 17, 2019 (68928 miles) took back to beach ford they said what they did was correct and the hoses are now leaking. in the actual recall from ford, they were to check these hose and replace all hoses,, as you can see from the paperwork, they did not. they refuse to replace the hoses, but want to charge me over $1,000.00 to replace. went to managers still no avail, went to ford motor complaint they said to bring my complaint to you. beach ford is not honoring the actual recall. all recalls have a 10,000 mile warranty and/or one year. none had been meant. please i need help with this, i don't want something for nothing, but i want my car fixed from a recall that ford said could cause the gaskets to crack or engine fire. can you help me with this. this happens whenever the car is driving.

On wednesday march 13, 2019, i was driving west at approximately 60 miles per hour, on interstate highway 10 in san antonio texas between fresno dr. and west ave. the hour was approximately 10:00 pm. the weather was clear, temperature was in the middle 60's. traffic was light. suddenly, i heard a very loud noise, the sunroof glass on my vehicle exploded. i did not see an objects or hear anything that may have caused the glass to break. i had not driven under an overpass or bridge. i exited the freeway at west ave. and entered a 7 eleven parking lot to inspect the damage. the front panel of the sunroof was broken. i inspected the sunroof for evidence of an object that may have hit the glass, but found none. some of the glass did fall into the space between the roof and the interior panel, but the majority of the glass was still in its original place. it appeared bowed as if the break occurred from the inside out.

Vehicle had a recall for coolant sensor fixed in 01/2018. since then coolant has run low, been checked numerous times, had hoses replaced, several diagnostic tests looking for problems, car has since overheated, and is now in need of a new engine because of coolant system problem not fixed by a sensor alerting you to a level of fluid. no leak exists so cooling fluid is working its way through the engine system some other way. the problem has persisted for nearly 7 months now. the vehicle ran emergency messages on the dash mere minutes after starting stating that the engine was overheating and to immediately exit the vehicle.

When driving for long distance about more 60 mile (on a highway) i got spontaneous message "power reduced to lower engine temperature" followed by "transmission fault service now" then the car enters limp mode. after about 20 minutes, the car starts accelerating and get back to normal even the two messages above still appears on the dash. then after a while, the two messages disappear. the car has been checked by the ford company here at my country, the result was negative and the system appears to be normal. however, the messages above appears only on a highway.

The vehicle was parked stationary while i went inside the office building to run an errand. when i came out, my daughter opened the passenger side door first as i was opening mine and she screamed and smoke and fire came bursting out of the car and all the windows blew out and knocked us both off our feet. the fire department said it was electrical as the engine was still intact.

The snow cakes on the outer wheel well felt and now the felt has broken from the clips the sensorlight comes on the felt keeps the snow from coming off so it builds up in just a block was told it will have to be replaced can't prevent the snow from caking on the felt and setting off the sensor can't keep replacing these felt wheel well it should be a recall

On jan 29th driving down the street and out of know where car starts stalling and then smoke and then the 💡 came on saying engine overheating..... i left up the hood the container filled ..... parked car and never got back in smoke was pouring out of the hood.... in the middle if harbson and argamino..... mr my daughter 1month old grandson and neice. ... the most scariest thing ever in my life....

All of a sudden driving down the road my car won't go i give it gas but it won't move i try to put in reverse won't move but it takes the gas but its like you have it in park and you rev up motor but this happens while i was driving on highway no warning of any kind was running fine a few hours before this happened

The engine started on fire shortly after i started driving it home from work.

Engine stalls for no apparent reason. vehicle was stationary at traffic light. last time was saturday 1/19/2019

While standing still or driving under 30 mph, exhaust fumes enter vehicle with fresh air indicated on switch, set to recirculate, air switch changes by itself and allows fumes into car.

Transmission blew while driving

My 2014 ford escape, with a 1.6l gtdi ecoboost engine, built in louisville, ky in march 2014 leaks engine coolant. i purchased this vehicle on june 6, 2014. i have put my vin into the nhtsa national recall site and it says my car is not recalled. however, ford safety recall 17s09 supplemental #1, dated december 13, 2017, and nhtsa campaign number 17v209, affecting 230,000 2014 escapes clearly states that my vehicle, manufactured in march 2014, should be in the recall since it was built in louisville between feb 13, 2013 and sept 2, 2014, the recall timeline. my car, leaking engine coolant, is exactly that described in ford safety recall 17s09. in the past 10 weeks or so i have noticed coolant on my garage floor and have filled the coolant reservoir at least 8 times. at one time the heater did not work and the reservoir was nearly empty. i am concerned about the possibility of an overheated engine causing the cylinder to crack and spew oil resulting in a possible engine fire. i currently have approximately 39,000 miles on this vehicle. if this vehicle vin is not recalled, i certainly would like a detailed answer why it is not since it meets all the parameters of safety recall 17s09 supplemental #1 and nhtsa campaign number 17v209. thank you.

The car caught on fire as i was driving home from work. i was just getting onto the highway when the high temp gage came on so i pulled over in the emergency lane and shut the car off. i thought that the car was overheating but the temperature gage was in the normal range. after shutting off the car, i saw what i thought was steam, coming out from underneath the hood. i opened the hood and found the car on fire. the car did not give any indication that there was something wrong with it.

While on highway. rpm scdropped to 0. all lights on dash lit up. smell burning. car stopped working rolled to side of highway exit ramp. towed to kuhlmanns's automotive on meridenrd wolcott ct 06716

On 10/28/2018 around 10:30am i was driving to church with my family. while stopping at an intersection of north route 88 and 837 in monongahela, pa, i noticed that there was smoke coming out of the heating vents. then as i tried to accelerate, the car shut down. so, i was able to push the car to a nearby parking lot to investigate the problem. after i evacuated my family from the car, i opened the hood and the smoke progressed to a fire, which i called 911 and the fire department arrived and extinguished it. then a tow truck was called and towed my vehicle to lenzi service station in monongahela, pa. after reporting this to the insurance company, the insurance investigator determined that it was an exhaust fire occurred due to an unseen oil leak. i reported the incident to ford on 10/29/2018, but have yet to hear from them. the insurance company, which is usaa, has agreed to buy out the rest of my payment and told me that i can go and buy a new car.

While driving at times we can smell fumes from the engine. it is very strong. it will start and then stop after a while. the smell is strong with carbon. it makes us sick and nauseous. we have had to roll the windows down and pull over at times. so far this has happened only while driving. we can be on a residential street or driving down a highway with the cruse control on and it will happen. we have treated this car well and only had an authorized dealer perform maintenance, with the exception of changing the wipers. this is not the first time we have has issues with this car (we bought this new). we have had the dealership replace a defective break drum (less than 2k miles), a defective track that moves the electric seat and a faulty exterior door latch. could not change the back wiper blade had to take it in (was told by the service center they had issues in the beginning figuring it out also). now the smell issue had made this a bad experience. if it just was a bad smell that would be one issue, however this is toxic and makes both of us nauseous. this should really needs to be dealt with soon before someone gets light headed from the smell and has an accident.

While driving uphill on i-80 on a cool day in october, speed limit 65mph, out of no where, my 2014 escape illuminated the check engine light, immediately followed by an "engine temp high, please stop safely" on the screen. i had never seen either of these warnings before so i immediately pulled over to the side of the highway and turned off the engine as it began smoking from under the hood. at this time the oil warning light illuminated red - within approx. 60 seconds, the engine made a loud popping noise and exploded into flames. i quickly evacuated the vehicle and ran down the highway, within minutes the entire car was in flames and was later ruled a total loss. this vehicle had been serviced by the hyundai dealership it was purchased from 6 days prior and was given a "clean bill of health" by the mechanics.

I purchased the vehicle in 2016. after two months it began sputtering before starting, and sometimes would stall. once in gear and moving it would run fine. secondly, there are times while driving that the transmission/ engine surges without warning. during the last week, it has stalled 4 times as i was coasting to turn corners. i have to restart it and it seems to be okay after that. this is a very dangerous issue and i am concerned someone is going to run into me when it stalls.

Transmission does not shift properly. engine is making rattling noise when running.

On 13 august 2018 my fiance was driving to our new home we're buying when smoke started coming out of the engine compartment. i told her to pull over and grab her purse and get away from the vehicle. by now flames were coming from the engine compartment. luckily she had cracked open the door before stopping because before she stopped all the doors automatically locked and could not be opened. i had arrived at the scene and the cars front end had virtually melted within 5 minutes. if my fiance had not cracked opened the door she most assuredly would have burned to death. if i had been driving i would definitely have had a difficult time escaping as i am a disabled veteran with several mobility problems. our car was less than 4 years old with only 64000 miles on it. we never expected we might possibly be injured or die from a newer vehicle. i really hope that ford motor company wasn't aware of this issue as we never received any notice of any problems whatsoever with this vehicle.

On 4 aug 18, a fire started within the garage of [xxx]. witnesses stated the fire originated from the vehicle (2014 ford escape) located within the garage and engulfed the garage. witnesses stated the garage door opened and the smoke poured out, once they ran closer they witnessed the car's engine was ablaze and rest of the car burning/smoking. i have exposed photographs of the property and the vehicle inside the garage. i have about 600 photographs taken in detail. they will give an overall depiction of the home and will provide all for this claim. i initiated ford cas [xxx] on 20 aug 18. i stressed expedition is important due to structural integrity of the scene. i heard back from ford declining to participate in the initial investigation and was informed to move forward with the insurance company's investigators. they've completed their investigation and it's been ruled the car is the origin of the fire; the interior passenger compartment but do badly damaged they could not find the cause due to more invasive testing usaa would not pay for. i have the report for your review. the vehicle has been moved from the scene and now sits in a salvage yard, wrapped to preserve it for further inspection. the home in now being rebuilt and could not wait 90 days for ford to decide whether or not they want to come look at it. ford sent a letter on 13 sep 18 requesting information, pictures, and to 'preserve the scene' so they can look at it. i am sent them their request but anticipate push back for coverage that insurance wasn't able to cover (lost more than covarge allowed). ford declined my claim and stated they believe the fire started outside the vehicle just from looking at pictures. twice they've declined to participate. please contact me for more information. thank you. 2014 ford escape 4x2 overflow coolant tank causing coolant to leak. 230,000 cars have been repaired by ford but they will not repair mine without a $230+cost. for some unknown reason my serial number is not covered. lack of coolant leads to overheating and cracked head gasket. the car did reduce power and sound a pull over immediately warning on 2 occasions. the car has 55,000 miles.

I was driving and the vehicle just cut off on the road.. now it now driving at all..had to get it toad to the house..i just had it five months with 85,000 miles on it..no check engine light didn't come on to let me know it was a defect..i almost got hit by the person behind me..

On several occasions the vehicle acted as though it was in neutral when drive was selected. often when shifting from reverse to drive. this happened on 3 occasions in a short time frame (a week or so.) the last time it occurred it had to be towed to a dealership for repairs on the transmission.

The drivers side wiper blade, sticks at top up position and then will snap down. it will also stop occasionally mid position on way down and oscillates before completing down stroke. makes for extremely dangerous driving conditions when wiper stops in middle of site line and oscillates. issue has occurred while driving and during stationary parked. blades are new. windshield is clean. windshield was wet with rain water.
