Stalls f4equently. some times within 1 minute run time it drops to really low rpm. then dies. restart it will jerk and die again. most of the time by 3rd start it stays running. really scared it might get me killed.
This is the 2nd time in 6 months this car has stopped running because it says the engine temperature is hot, but both times the car has only been running for 5 minutes.
My well-maintained 2013 ford escape with approximately 65,000 miles on it recently developed a coolant leak. upon complete inspection at the dealership, this appears to be an internal coolant leak that is very similar in description to those which have been previously reported in this make and model of car in selected manufactured vehicles. my car was not one of these selected vehicles in prior recalls, and i am concerned that there are additional vehicles affected, including mine, that should also be recalled. in my car, there is an internal coolant leak with evidence of active leak onto the spark plugs and destroying the engine, and this has resulted in requiring installation of an entirely new engine. prior recall reports a 'coolant system leak that may cause the engine to overheat and leak flammable engine fluids'. i was alerted to the leak issue in my call when an 'engine overheating' warning came on simultaneously with a low coolant warning, which prompted me to proceed to the dealership with my car. this warning came on while driving my car vehicle on a city street. thank you for investigating this concern.
Fuel: the car was only 4 years old started with a fuel issue. every time i put gas, then turn on car doesn't want to start. it will eventually start and no other problems occur. but it does take a while for it to start. kind of like when the battery is dying. engine: when going up steep hills the engine over heats. it stabilizes once we drive on flat surface and doesn't happen again until we go up steep hills again. both items have been occurring fr about 3 years. the fuel piece is very expensive to repair because of the way ford built the compact engine.
Vehicle stalls without warning randomly. the vehicle is in motion driving straigh-forward when this occurs. it has happened in parking lots and on city streets. i see this car has been subject to a recall for this and i don't show any currently open recalls so perhaps the fix for the recall was not sufficient. we bought the car used about a few months ago from a ford dealer.
On monday, may 6 i was in a store parking lot and i started my car to back out and drive home. my car gave an alert that said the engine overheated. there was no prior notice. the car stalled and engine shut down. i turned off the vehicle and when i restarted i was able to drive the few miles home. i called the ford dealership and made an appointment for the next day. my car was serviced and they said there was some issue with a coolant leak which they fixed. on friday, june 7th i was also in a parking lot when i started my car to drive home. the same alert came on and my engine shut down. i tried the same method of restarting my car in an attempt to drive home, however this time it would not drive. i called a tow truck to tow it to the dealership. at this time it is still in service at a ford dealership. i paid $1000 to have the "issue" fixed a month ago. they have not yet been able to tell me what the "issue" is now. i do have the receipt and print out of what exactly was done in the first repair but it is inside my car which i can't access right now. if needed i can provide later.
Tl* the contact owned a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving, the vehicle temperature was indicating that the vehicle was overheating. the vehicle was pulled over and the contact saw smoke coming from under the hood. the contact opened the hood and saw flames coming from the engine. the entire front of the vehicle was engulfed in flames before the fire department could arrive. a police report was filed but the contact was unsure if a fire report was filed as well. there were no injuries sustained and the vehicle was totaled by the contact's insurance company. the contact called a dealer (jenkins & wynne ford, honda, & lincoln 2655 trenton rd, clarksville, tn 37040 (931) 542-4886) and was made aware of the fire. the dealer advised the contact to call the manufacturer. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that a written response would be received in the mail. two weeks later, the manufacturer called the contact and requested the insurance company to file a report with them in regards to the recalls that were on the vin. there were a total of 5 nhtsa recalls associated to the vin at the time it caught fire. the one recall under the vin that may be related to the vehicle catching fire was nhtsa campaign number 13v584000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 115,000.
I was driving along the interstate on i-65 south and it was about 10 minutes after midnight. the monitor on my car read 'car overheating, pull over safely' so i pulled over and saw smoke coming from under the hood. i turn the car off and lift the hood and see flames. i immediately call 911 and the send a fire truck. before the fire truck could get there the whole front of the car is engulfed in flames, burning or melting everything under the hood. after this i did some research and found out that there was an open recall for the cooling system that could directly lead to fires. neither ford nor the dealership informed me of that recall and the fact that it could've been life threatening. i've contacted them both and neither have tried to help me at all with this situation. cars should not just randomly catch on fire and i believe there could possibly be violations of product liability. they both are leaving me in a position to have to pay for a car that no longer exists due to no fault of my own, which also makes it even more difficult to get another car. please tell me there is something you can do.
While my car was still under warranty (approximately 2.5 year ago, when it was close to 50,000 miles), i brought my car in because it was slowly leaking coolant. they found a leak, but since the repair was so expensive, i decided it would be cheaper to just keep refilling it. at that time, i had to refill it every few months. recently, it has been much worse where i need to refill it every week. my car also stalled (within a minute after starting it), but i am unsure whether those things are connected. i have read about many recalls for this issue (same make/model/year), but my nothing comes up when i search my vin. my car is currently at 99,000 miles.
Stalls after starting ... the car will start just fine but a few seconds or minutes later will stall once i am already on the road. also if sitting with out running for a while car will stall and turn off. in traffic this is also an issue, freeway closed one time and had to sit in standing traffic in hwy and car just turned off. several times when pulling out of driveway or the scariest part a shooing strip parking lot onto a busy feeder road the car will stall and turn off.
Check engine light came on and i was told that it was the turbo boost. i had seen that other vehicles the same make, model, year and manufacturing date had been recalled for that issue but mine has not and now i'm looking at a very expensive fix. i have purchased several fords in the past but i'm concerned that the quality is starting to wane and i'm disappointed the recall hasn't been expanded when it's evident that it should have been.
While driving in morning rush hour (bumper to bumper) traffic on the highway, my vehicle died. the check engine and battery light came on and it took several attempts for it to start again. i had my battery replaced a month ago and the alternator checked with no issues.
Car lights indicate engine is overheating and car must be turned off immediately. car begins to shake and steering wheel locks up. has occurred three times. mechanics cannot find anything wrong with it. this time the mechanic said the sensor is sending a false report and the engine is not overheating. occurs within 1-5minutes of driving on side roads going no more than 35 miles an hour or less each time.
Car stalled twice while in motion when turning into traffic now the check engine light is on
While driving down highway 52 yesterday evening my ford escape 2013 caught on fire. i was able to pull to the side after it seized (brakes quit in the process) and had to jump out the passenger side door as the whole engine was on fire and engulfing the driver side.
Car now shuts off frequently after shifting into reverse and back into drive. recently happened while my wife was pulling out of a heavy traffic area.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the "service engine now" indicator illuminated when the vehicle was started. the failure recurred and the engine icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who found code number: b0236 and informed the contact to call the dealer. the vehicle was taken to carriage ford (812-284-4444, located at 908 e lewis and clark pkwy, clarksville, in 47129) where it was stated that there was no recall. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the check engine and "stop engine safely/overheating" indicators were illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine overheated. the contact placed coolant into the engine four times, but the coolant continuously leaked out. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 90,050.
I have a 2013 ford escape with over 120,000 miles. i've had it 2 years. i purchased the car used with about 84,000 miles on it .. recently my coolant would go low and then sometimes the car would say it's overheating when it actually wasn't causing it to automatically shut off. today, 04/24/2019 the car started to cut off while driving and after numerous attempts of starting the car to drive it the engine light has now come on. i see this is a very popular complaint with this vehicle and would like to if anything is being done on fords end regarding repairs or any type of recall . i will be taking it to the mechanic in the morning
Just like 130,000+ other 2013 ford escapes with a 1.6l engine. i believe this one was prone to a fire issue. the engine caught on fire causing a total loss of the vehicle.
Takata recall while driving my car on a city street i came to a red light i was stopped for just a moment and the low coolant sign/message came on not even a second later it starts flashing red saying system overheating turn engine off the thermostat spikes all the way up i am on a 4 lane road with my child in the vechele as i am getting over to get us out of harms way the car is starting to stall. i got to a parking spot mind you this might have taken 1 minute or less i turn car off and wait a few minutes to pop the hood and see what is going on. the antifreeze jug is full there was no reason for the car to overheat i waited a few more minutes started the car and the low coolant light goes off temperature is fine now the check engine light is on i drove the car home it drove fine no issue. i can not put my children in a vehicle that i have no idea what is gonna do if i could not have got my car to a parking spot we would have been hit on this road.
As i was driving to work (at ~35 mph), an alert appeared warning me of the engine overheating and to "stop soon". i lost power for the most part and had to coast into a parking lot. i had been driving for less than 5 minutes (cool day, ~60 degrees f, dry conditions).
Car stalled several times while going about 10-15 mph and this is about the tenth time this has happened in several days.
Coolant completely depleted twice within one month after purchase. coolant is leaking into engine cylinder 3.
The vehicle begins to struggle to run at idle sometimes when at a stop sign or when turning.
My escape likes to stall going like 10 mph. the vehicle starts to hestistate and wont go anywhere. it stalls and like it shutting off with the oil light and the battery light comes on. i restart the vehicle and it does it again like it dont want to move. it stalls like three to four times and it would run like normal. it's very dangerous cause it stalled right in the middle of a intersection. if there was cars coming which i was lucky i wasn't i would had hit on both sides. this is not normal for a car to do this. no one knows what is wrong with my vehicle and this is a very safety issue. it is to a point where i am scare driving my escape cause of this issue. the stalling and hesitation issue. i was in motion when this does this. you can having idle and it wont stall only when you put it in drive. the turbo is also losing power when this does this.
I'm driving and my vehicle is stalling and having hesitation to get going again. it stalls three or four times before it wants to run correctly. i talked to the dealer and they said my car vin. number is not on the recall list and theres many cars like mine that are on the recall list. my car is actually moving when it stalls on me. there are times when i am in the middle of the street and it stalls on me where i can get hit or killed.
We have had multiple instances of the escape indicating low coolant and/or overheating/pull over safely (limp mode). several times, we were in traffic on city streets when it suddenly went into limp mode and pulling over safely was scary. we have taken the vehicle to the ford dealer multiple times and had the water pump replaced, the heater bypass hose replaced and the cooling system "burped". during the last visit, we were told the "coolant stand pipe" needed to be replaced for a fee of $1275. i understand that part was supposed to be replaced during ford's 13s12 recall campaign. at this point, the escape can't be trusted to go any distance without going into limp mode and posing a safety hazard to us and others near us.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the check engine indicator was illuminated. also, after the contact filled up the fuel tank, it took four attempts for the vehicle to restart. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the entire solenoid evaporation system needed to be replaced. the repairs were being completed with manufacturer approved parts. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall and referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. the dealer had not been contacted. the failure mileage was 77,000.
The vehicle will randomly stall out while driving about 10 miles an hour without warning. it's butters like it's out of fuel the engine shakes violently and then turns off. once the car sits until the engine gets completely cool it will run normal. sometimes it takes a thousand miles sometimes it takes 10. it stalls under different circumstances but will not stall if it's in park idling. as soon as you put it in drive it shifts into second and then stalls. taking it to several places and it's never acted up when they took it for a test drive so no one can figure out what's wrong with it. it is a huge safety concern if i pull out onto a highway and the car stalls i could potentially being a fatal crash. here is the youtube video of the exact same situation, in the comments it's suggest replacing a fuel rail pressure sensor. the sensor has been replaced. still experiences the same issue. https://youtu.be/cnhrg4peoru. i've been experiencing this issue on and off for the past 6 months. it's the only vehicle my wife and i own and we are afraid to take our child anywhere due to this issue.
At 73k miles, low coolant light appeared while driving without any visible signs of a leak. drove to dealership and was told that water pump and heater hose were leaking. the next week the low coolant light came back on so i returned to the dealership and was told that the connection hose to the cylinder head was leaking. after replacing this hose connection, dealership now tells me that leak is coming from cylinder head. this is a fire hazard and should be recalled.
I just purchase this vehicle about a month ago. recently, the car would just stop out of no where. when engine light would go off and on. when i notice it on one time, i went to auto zone it said it was a coolant bypass which means my car is getting too hot however i known when i start up the car in the morning, it would get hot fast which is not normal. the car would be still and it would or im driving it would just shut off...
Car stalled in the middle of the roadway, on a city street, approaching intersection, while in motion. no warning. was unable to restart car. after pushing car out of traffic, car restarted. drove carefully to repair shop, which was unable to repair. drove car to ford dealer where diagnosis was faulty fuel vapor cap. dealer advised that this happened to many of these cars.
Car stalled while driving in a city street approaching intersection. stopped and was unable to restart. after pushing car out of the way, car restarted. drove slowly to car repair shop--unable to repair, advised of nhtsa investigation. took car to dealer, ford repair shop said problem was with fuel vapor cap. contacted ford corporate, but am unable to get reimbursement.
I've had a 2013 ford escape in for service for the same mechanical issue more than a half-dozen times. the vehicle would stall and engine shut down unexpectedly while driving on the highway, often on major highways at speeds at or over 40mph; this has happened nationwide and has been reported in over a thousand complaints. this is a dangerous, hazardous defect. i have been forced to pay for the repairs for this ongoing consistent dangerous defect. i have repair records documenting all of the problems and ongoing failure to correct this same issue. my vehicle should have been part of the recall for stalling issues. this is a safety defect and ford should be held responsible. view the posted link nhtsa has probed the problem. chapman ford in northeast philadelphia knowingly sold this vehicle aware of the problem. the dealership will not acknowledge it. ford corporation denies recall for my vehicle. i lodged a complaint with the ftc and with the pennsylvania consumer protection agency. ford will wait to be liable when somebody gets hurt or killed on a highway when the 2013 ford escape stalls out loses power. i have reported this to ford, they deny this safety issue. beware of the 2013 ford escape. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/ford-escape-investigation-targets-stalling-problem
Was actively driving on a city road approaching an intersection and slowing down for a traffic light, in deerfield beach fl when the car stalled. car would not restart. after pushing the car out of the travel lanes, it restarted. took the car to local auto repair shop, where they advised of investigation and did not fix the problem. took car to ford dealer, where they related the problem to a faulty fuel vapor cap, and repaired it. at the dealer, the service rep advised that this is something that happens to a lot of ford cars.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and restarted on its own without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the local dealer. the vehicle was taken to grieco ford of delray beach (3000 s federal hwy, delray beach, fl 33483, (561) 278-0303) where it was diagnosed that the fuel vapor cap needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 69,970. *bf consumer sent 2 letters to manufacturer regarding reimbursement. Car stalling while driving after engine warms up no codes or check engine light have taken to three mechanics not one knows the problem
While driving my vehicle on a near-zero temperature morning approximately 1/4 mile from leaving my garage, my vehicle went into "limp mode" and set two obd codes p2560/ p1299 . meaning with no warning my speed went from 40 mph to less than 3 mph. no other vehicle was behind me to cause an accident. there is a recall for my engine for 2014 ford escapes but none for a 2013. this is a known coolant sensor problem. on a major highway, this has caused many known accidents. there is no warning to get to a safe place.
Vehicle "serviced" for safety recall 13s12 on july 22nd 2017 at ford dealership service center in tulsa, ok vehicle in service center for 7 days when the work order called for 2 days. vehicle never gave any indication of low coolant engine temperature would be high upon starting the vehicle in the mornings. vehicle would stall and die regularly. vehicle stalled and lost power on highway 03/02/19 and ceased completely requiring a tow to ford dealership. awaiting diagnosis from service department. experiencing localized overheating of the engine cylinderhead which may cause cracks that could allow oil to leak . this is the exact reason for the recall and ford has failed to repair the vehicle correctly. i have been driving an unsafe vehicle and using it to commute my family. ford should take ownership and make this right for all owners experiencing these issues it is a danger to personal safety.
Car milage 11500 fuel pump making weird noise and then causing car to stall seems to happen at idle when coming to a slower stop. i was told it was the fuel pump 5 months ago when it happened the first time. also was told from the dealer that there is some issues with the fuel module that causes the pump to fail. i am taking this in tomorrow to rectify. must be the fuel module after all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while operating the vehicle, the engine temperature gauge displayed that the engine temperature was high and the engine had overheated. the vehicle shook and vibrated before stalling. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the thermostat, but the failure recurred. the cause of the failure was not determined. mullinax ford (1551 east semoran blvd, apopka, fl) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 115,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that coolant was leaking into the engine block and the check engine indicator was illuminated. also, the coolant level was always low and contact had to be added to the vehicle weekly. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer provided case number: 17326922. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 35,000.
My 2013 ford escape constantly is losing antifreeze somewhere... i don't know if its leaking out and evaporating on the engine or what... but all of a sudden my engine temp light will come on and i will find that i am extremely low on antifreeze.... i talked with the dealership and they said is has no open recalls, but i do see that this exact year had an identical recall done
The engine has stalled twice in the last few weeks while i was driving on the road. the first time is stalled it was in the middle of an intersection (i was able to coast to shoulder) and it would not start up right away. my mechanic replaced an 02 sensor, but within a week it stalled again, this time as i drove on a city street. this time it restarted after i pulled over.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at any speed, the engine shook and the "cylinder 1 misfire" indicator illuminated. the vehicle overheated and the engine shut off. the contact stated that the check engine indicator remained illuminated and flashed occasionally. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who found failure codes: p1299 and p0301, but stated that there was no failure with the engine. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Bought vehicle in september of 2018, which several instances of this problem. vehicle is continuously going into a limp mode due to "false overheating". engine thinks it is overheating within 5 minutes of starting vehicle, and will stall while driving, causing a safety issue to other drivers on the road. with 20 degree weather, it is impossible for an engine to fully warm. occurrences of this problem happened on the following dates: 12/31/18 - one time, a restart of the vehicle resolved 1/10/19 - one time, left vehicle at work at after driving 2/15/19 - 4 times in a row, and had to have vehicle towed to a shop 2/18/19 - soon after the shop had it and repaired a coolant leak. limp mode occurred on the highway, which is not not extremely dangerous, but i genuinely feared for my life. while the shop was having trouble replicating the problem today, as was i, this is a legitimate safety concern. overheating code was pulled by columbia car care in columbia, mo. steve, the owner of the shop can attest to the issue i was having. other ford escapes with the 1.6 motor have recalls for cooling issues, and it is interesting that mine does not have recalls per your web site. this should be looked at.
My 2013 ford escape sel 1.6l with ecoboost is having the same coolant issues as many similar models have been having. however, my car's vin number was not included in the official recall so i have to foot the bill despite it clearly being the exact instance in which the recall was issued. for a clarification of the issue. the coolant is rapidly depleting despite no visible leaks or smells of it burning off, indicating that it's leaking into the engine (fire hazard as its a potential to ignite) caused in part by faulty hosing equipment. when the coolant levels get too low, the check engine light comes on and an immediate alert that the engine is overheating... even though the temperature remains unchanged. the car then begins to stall until the coolant levels are returned to normal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 25 mph, the coolant level low warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. the contact called jim falk motors of maui at 808-270-2600 (located at 260 hana hwy, kahului, hi 96732) and was informed that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 73,500.
