2013 ford escape stalling out. runs and stalls anywhere.
While driving my vehicle, without warning it stalls and i can't continue unless i turn it off and start the engine again. i also experience the smell of burnt wire.
2013 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to coolant system and egr system issues. *ld the consumer requested that the vehicle be included in the recall 17s09. *js
While i was driving my car 40mi/hr on december 23rd, the low engine coolant fluid message came on, and about 10 seconds later, there was a message saying the engine was overheating and to pull over safely immediately. the car starting stalling and i pulled on the side of the road. after putting more engine coolant, it worked just fine. then two weeks the low engine coolant message came back on and i took it to midas in westland, mi where they said they couldn't detect a leak. about two weeks after that the same situation with the low engine coolant signal, overheating engine, and stalling car happened, followed by more engine coolant added to car. since then it has driven just fine but i'm afraid it will stall or start an engine fire.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle reported a false alert stating that the coolant level was low. the contact stated that the coolant level was at the recommended level. a secondary alert was relayed with instructions to pull over as the vehicle stalled. woody anderson ford 2500 jordan ln nw, huntsville, al 35810, was contacted but was unable to schedule an appointment to have the vehicle diagnosed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective coolant level sensor. the independent mechanic linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the vin was not included. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 147,000.
The engine will shudder at random times and occasionally stall at highway speeds. issue also will appear randomly after filling the tank. sometimes venting the tank at the inlet will resolve the issue. according to firestone, this is a known issue for this vehicle...and as a driver, it is awfully unsafe. ford has diagnosed it as having to do with a fuel pressure valve. this has happened repeatedly over the years we have owned this vehicle. get this fixed!
Vehicle stalls unexpectedly and without warning. i can be driving and pull out of an intersection and the vehicle stalls without any warning leaving me vulnerable to an accident due the vehicle not being able to move. in addition to this the vehicle also has a coolant leak
I purchased this vehicle from drivetime in january 2018. they did not tell me of any recalls. i see online that there have been 15 recalls and the engine and engine cooling has been recalled 2 times. i have had issues for over a year with the cooling. i have to always put coolant in. we have even been stranded with an overheated vehicle. i had an estimate done to fix the issue and they told me the part is $1,400, it is the coolant bypass. not sure what that is, however when searching online, the parts are less than $100. i need to know if this is still the same recall and can get fixed by the dealer for free? please let me know before the engine blows. my check engine light remains on, i am unable to use remote start in the freezing cold now due to this. i would really like to get this fixed as i love this car and do not give it up. the date i am using below is the last date the engine overheated. please get this taken care of for me!
As of 1/16/2020, i have had my 2013 ford escape for 6 months. a week after i got my car, it overheated. i was forced to pull over as the engine stalled and seized up. i had the car towed to the dealer and had the thermostat fixed. after two or three months, the car started overheating again. i decided not to take the car back to the dealer after many phone calls and a very unpleasant experience. i took it to two mechanic shops and they could not find what was wrong. it continued to overheat, even with coolant filled in the reservoir. i did some research and from what i have seen, overheating is a common problem with this year and model. i have called ford and they told me that there are no recalls for overheating associated with my vin number. i took it to a mechanic shop for a third time, after my car stalled on a cold winter's day with my child in the backseat. they notified me that the coolant bypass valve was not functioning properly. they also notified me that it was part of recall 13s12 (nhtsa-13v583). i made an appointment with a local ford dealership to have the call inspected for all recalls. apparently my car was not effected by this recall that effected other 2013 ford escapes that causes the overheating. i regret making this purchase. my 2002 honda accord has proved to be way more reliable than this ford. i would not purchase a ford again and plan on trading it in after i get this problem resolved. i'm disappointed that i have to pay out of pocket when it is obviously a malfunction in the manufacturing of this vehicle.
Vehicle leaking continued leaking coolant after water pump changed. dealership removed ignition coils & spark plugs looked with borescope, cylinder #3 had coolant recommended engine replacement. tore down engine found porous casting on block allowing coolant into engine. this coincides with fords recall #12v431000 engine and engine cooling and recall#13v58300 engine for other manufactured 2013 ford escape models but ford is not extending recall to this escape stating it was mfg at a different plant and during a different time than the other escapes that were recalled. as stated by ford "overheating of the engine cylinder head may cause cracks that could allow oil to leak potentially resulting in engine compartment fire. ford needs to include these other escapes in their recall.
This is the tenth time that the coolant system lights come on and the the car stalls out and will only go approximately 5 miles per hour. this happened this time with a car behind me that almost crashed into me he had ti hit his breaks and go across a double line into oncoming traffic lanes to keep from hitting me, blessedly there was no oncoming traffic. i was driving the vehicle. now it won"t stay charged even with a new battery. as soon as i turn the motor off the car is dead until i charge it again. it runs from point a to b but if you turn it off it is completely dead and the key wont work or anything
We bought 2013 ford escape in july, 2016, with approximately 62,000 miles. at 64,000 miles, after constant overheating issues, ford agreed to replace the engine. there were overheating issues on the new engine at time of install (stated in dealer notes), but they "fixed" them. the car now has 103,000 miles. has been serviced regularly, with occasional overheating issues noted. transmission failed last month. waited over 2 weeks for diagnosis. transmission needs to be replaced and another new engine is needed because of coolant leak. our extended warranty expired at 100,000 miles. contacted ford customer service and they refuse to do anything to help. it seems that they put another defective engine in at 64,000 miles because you should get more that 40,000 miles on a new engine. the cost to repair this piece of junk is prohibitive and i feel very unhappy with ford's response.
2013 ford escape experiences apparent transmission failures at highway speeds. often during passing acceleration. repeated instances. from 50k miles to 70k miles. one instance involving all wheels locking up at 80mph (felt like a shift into park) and the others involving drivetrain power loss and jerking. after car restart, codes "apparently" disappear and dealers are unable to identify any issues without codes.
My car all of a sudden has a loss of engine coolant and overheats to extremely high temperatures. then this causes the car to stall as i'm driving it. this was part of a recall of other ford escapes but somehow my car was not added to this list.
While driving the car stalled out or died. the interior lights and radio were not affected. the car was still on but the rpms were at 0 and i could not accelerate properly. i had to shut the car off and restart it.
The vehicle hesitates then stalls even when in drive. this has happened in the city streets when approaching a stop sign and when pulling forward at a green light at an intersection. pressing the gas pedal but does not re-engage and stalls. i have replaced all sparks plugs and cleaned the injectors and fuel lines. this is happening more and more - the dealership is at a loss.
My 2013 ford escape has lost coolant since it was brand new. i brought it into the dealership where i bought it multiple times and they could never figure out the source of the leak. it was slow, so i let it go. i just add a little coolant every couple months. this should not be the case in a new vehicle. well, now it is 2019 and i have an all out leak. i have to add coolant every few days. i leave a puddle on any parking spot i use for a few hours or more. this model year, and engine (1.6 ecoboost) is known for this issue. i fear it is coming from the engine block, and i'm out a lot of money.
The car will run for about a minute and then want to stall. also when you start it it will drive for about 20 yards and then start idling very weird and stall. it doesn't do this all the time. it's dangerous.
Smell of antifreeze around engine. resovoir was low but no sign of leaks or wet spots on garage floor. very apparent smell of antifreeze. vechile oil was changed about a month ago and antifreeze was added to overflow tank, but no leaks were foun.
On at least 9 occasions over the last year, car stalled when coming out of a parking lot, driving straight at 10mph or less. sequence was: 1) the car was warmed up driving to a store; 2) engine was off for at least twenty minutes while in store; 3) after leaving store and starting car, the car stalled within a minute. upon stalling, engine could be restarted without any problem. have no knowledge of the cause. no parts had been replaced on the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph with the speed control engaged and making a right from a stop light, the engine over heating warning light illuminated. the contact was able to pull to the side of the roadway, turn off the vehicle waited a few minutes before restarting. the vehicle was driven to auto zone where it was diagnosed as coolant failure. the contact stated that coolant was added and no leaks were noticed until recently. the contact stated that in order to drive the vehicle at least a sixth of a gallon of coolant needed to be added to the vehicle. the low coolant warning illuminated as well as the over heating warning and thermostat increase warning and the check engine warning light stays illuminated. the contact stated researched failure on-line and found nhtsa campaign number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling) however vehicle was not included in recall due vehicle was not manufactured from october 5, 2011 through november 26, 2012 was the contact stated has scheduled an appointment with zeck ford (4501 s.4th st. leavenworth, ks 66408). the manufacturer notified of failure and advised contact to schedule diagnosed appointment with a local ford dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 97,496.
Previously had dealer repair coolant leak hoses in firewall but not listed in recall as was focus/fusion. took a week to complete. engine just had a high temp friday the 13th while driving two miles on a stretch and stalled out. turned off climate system and drove to dealer the next morning.
The engine stalls at intersections. i've noticed it's when the fuel is low (40 miles or fewer to empty)
I bought the 2013 escape brand new and for 4 years car ran fine then for the last few years the car would stall and i would have to restart it and would stall again. this repeated for years and had it fixed multiple times. the car was also leaking anti freeze and there was a recall for that i never received. after the latest stalling issues the engine block had a small crack which now i have notified that i would need a new engine at cost of 6k - 8k. the car has 150k miles which is not alot for cars and has been very dangerous to drive for years, i would not let any one drive the car due to this as was so dangerous.
The past month the car has stalled out while driving. sometimes 15 to 30 seconds after starting, in stationary position other times while in traffic. my daughter was almost in an accident, when the vehicle shut off while turning in a busy intersection on a city street. it has also happened while on the highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 30 mph, the "service engine" indicator illuminated. the contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who determined that there was no coolant in the radiator. the following day, the same message was displayed. the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic who stated that the engine was leaking coolant, but the origin of the leak could not be determined. gurley leep ford (320 e ireland rd, south bend, in 46614) was informed of the failures via phone. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 138,402.
The car stalls out from a standing stop randomly and without warning, yet no check engine light ever comes on. it is dangerous because it has stalled just as i'm pulling out into traffic. it has randomly been happening in the past two weeks.
I own a 2013 ford escape. i can be driving along and all of a sudden it stalls with no warning. we have taken it to the shop and after lots of money out of pocket , i still do not have a resolution. they can't find anything wrong. ford needs to recall these vehicles and fix the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the coolant would continuously disappeared from the engine which caused the vehicle to overheat and stall. the contact stated that there were no signs of a leak however, the check engine and coolant low warning lights were illuminated. the coolant would be topped off repeatedly in order for the vehicle to operate as intended. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed nor repaired. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed of a possible leak in the head gasket. the contact was informed that the vehicle should be taken to an authorized dealer for the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle repeatedly stalls after starting the vehicle and taking off. the vehicle will start and then i begin driving and it will shutter, lose acceleration ability, and stall out. then i have to put the vehicle in park in the middle of the road or parking lot and restart. sometimes it starts after a little delay just fine, and other times i had happened back to back two to three times. no warning lights remain. i also had coolant leak occur. just got engine hoses, sensors, a new fuel pump in hopes of fixing the coolant leak and the stalling. too soon to tell if the coolant problem is gone, but stalling is still occurring! feels extremely unsafe in a vehicle that randomly stalls out while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while depressing the accelerator pedal at various speeds, the rpms would rapidly increase and the vehicle would shut off without warning. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the failure could be related to the throttle body. the contact was given a cost estimate for the repair and was advised to have the vehicle diagnosed at a local ford dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 126,000.
The vehicle randomly stalls, with engine completely shutting off, while the vehicle is moving. the stalling occurs while the vehicle is braking, or slowing down while driving on city streets, and i have to completely stop the vehicle, put it in park, and then restart the vehicle. it has occurred several times with other vehicles behind me, causing them to have to hit their brakes and stop as well. i took the car into the ford dealership where it took them a day and a half to diagnose that it was an evaporative purge valve that was sticking open. the repair cost came to $629.97, plus $68.86 for a rental car. the vehicle ran for about 1.5 months with no problems, but is now stalling again with the exact same symptoms as before.
The car stalls when starting and there have been many complaints about the same issue and ford does not acknowledge there is a problem with escapes.
Coolant leaking into the engine. while on motion engine over heat and made the car shake . from that time noise is coming from the engine.. coolant level goes low until tank goes empty . no alert giving when coolant drop off levels , at the same time oil levels increase.....
Car loses power while driving, the engine stalls then loses power. this happens 2-3 times every two weeks or so...
The car suddenly stalls while driving for many times. the kings ford dealer couldn't fix the problem. it is a very dangerous problem.
My 2013 ford escape is stalling while driving. it has done it numerous times. it will start back once put in park and restarted the engine. it has stalled in on coming traffic. i have taken it to mechanic and they can't find out what is wrong because it's not throwing in codes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 30 mph, the low engine coolant warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine needed to be replaced. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 85,000.
My engine coolant light came on. as i was entering an on ramp to the highway my car slowed down and would not let me accelerate. thankfully i was able get to a safe place before the car stopped. i called a friend who brought coolant and put it in my vehicle and after it cooled down i was able to continue. this has happened several times. i check fluid levels often. i am also aware that other blocks of this same vehicle have been recalled for this problem. i suspect this vihicle is having the same problem
While driving down highway 82, a fire started in the engine compartment, there was no notice of a fire within the cab. no smell and no visible smoke. after being flagged down about it, we managed to get out of the car and save just a few things out of the car, before the front half of the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
While driving down the highway ( us 82 in texas), there were flames seen coming from underneath the vehicle. a separate vehicle pulled up beside our 2013 ford escape, and yelled that the car was on fire. my son quickly pulled over, and he and his mother quickly got out of the vehicle and backed away from it. a fire truck came and put out the fire, but the car is a total loss. my wife was also treated for smoke inhalation on site, and later had to go to the hospital because she was still having problems breathing. i have checked the vin on our vehicle, but there was no recall on our vin. after research, i see that there has been other fire issues with other vins. i believe our situation needs to be looked at, because the recall may need to be expanded. we are currently upside down on our car note, and will loose about $4,000 out of pocket. i believe our issue could be related to issues others have had within the recalled vin's. this happened on friday november 15th near sherman, texas.
My car started showing engine overheating and when i took it in to dealer they confirmed a crack leaking fluid into engine. recall work done in 2014 was to avoid this from happening and now they are telling me i have to buy a new $6000 engine to have it run again. they won't cover it under their recall. i wrote the bbb but they refuse to honor it because i didn't buy an extended warranty. the car just turned 6 yrs old. i'm the only owner and purchased it new.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving various speeds, the anti-freeze and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle shook and lost power. when the contact turned the vehicle off and back on, it resumed normal operation after a few minutes. the vehicle was taken to ford lincoln of huntington (147 w 11th st, huntington station, ny 11746, (631) 923-2145) where it was diagnosed that the fuel injector, pressure sensor, and wastegate solenoid failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 12v431000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
I have a 2012 ford escape bought brand new only have 68000.miles on it and now it has started stalling. i have driving doing errands around my home town. luckily it restarted but not easily.
Earlier in the week i reported the engine stalling issue. i wish to report the coolant leak issue as well. i've had the water pump replaced but coolant is still leaking and has to be topped off regularly. this is on the 1.6l engine. it sounds like many other owners are experiencing the coolant and engine stalling issues; looking forward to recalls being issued for both problems.
Engine cuts off/stalls while car is in operation. this usually happens right at the beginning after start up. i can drive a short distance at low speed and then car stalls. this has almost caused an accident because someone was behind me and my completely stopped. it happens multiple times a day, about every other start.
I filed a complaint sometime last week about my car having coolant leaks and overheating due to this leak. well i took my car to the shop and was out 400 dollars to fix this. the shop ended up having to order two of the same parts because they were all faulty. a week later my car is fixed. worked for 2 days and the part that came directly from ford was faulty again. car almost blew up on the highways because coolant was leaking everywhere. there was literally none in my car. when is this going to become important enough to fix? when the engine is completely ruined? i was driving down the highway today and all the lights on my dash came on saying engine temp dangerously high. turn engine off immediately but by this point i was already smoking out the hood, it smelled like coolant inside my car, i pull over and get out and i see my tired are soaked, the whole sidewalk up under me was puddled, my engine was covered in coolant. i had to have it towed.
Vehicle occasionally stalls out at low idle, either when stationary or attempting to drive up hill in forward after backing out into street. this is not triggering an error code and several mechanics cannot diagnose the issue. after completing some research, it sounds like this is a common issue with 2013 ford escapes.
I received a coolant low alert in the summer of 2019. went to dealer, they blamed it on vegas weather, topped off the coolant. alert came up again 10/28/19. returned to dealer, got topped off. & got appointment for service on 11/1 /19. i had googled coolant leaks in my car. leaking on drive way, i was told my escape is not on recall, but the nhtsa. is reporting safety issues with my make & model. i alert comes on while driving & when i start in the am, alert stays on stationary & motion
There is a recall on engines over heating, however i have checked mine with 2 different ford dealerships and they both say that they cant figure out the issue and that my escape is not part of the recall. i don't believe this to be correct because it over heats, its not leaking, no one can figure out the issue. ive taken it to 2 different ford dealerships. tipton ford in nacogdoches, tx and al myer ford in lufkin, tx. both companies have had my suv for 1 week at a time and still cant tell me what the problem is. is it possible that this recall has to do with my suv?
