Problems with 2013 Ford Escape POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2013 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 63 685 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Ford Escape

We have a 2013 cpo ford titanium with 30,000 miles on it, and it recently started to have problems with it loosing power while trying to excellerate. most of the time it is from a stoplight or sign, but on occasion while getting on the highway. the engine starts to stumble, and won't get up to speed. the "service engine now" light comes on, and we have to limp to the side of the road. when putting it in neutral, the engine revs up to 3000 rpms before we turn it off. after letting the computer "reboot " , the engine is ok and the "service engine" light goes off. this has happened to us at least six times in the last two months. twice we have had it to crest lincoln (purchased from) in woodbury, ct., and once to an independent technician with neither of them able to get a fault code from the computer memory. it is completely void of any fault codes! my nephew has the same car from another dealer, and they are having the same problem! it puts us in dangerous situations. every time we pull away from a stop sign, we hope there is not a dump truck going to run us over! the nhtsa needs to look into this safety issue!

The car suddenly and without warning shifted into neutral for a few seconds then slipped back into gear even though the gear shift was in drive. this started happening every few minutes regardless of what gear the vehicle was in. the problem would occur while driving thus making it unsafe to drive.

For a few months low coolant light would come on and i would fill it. then check engine light came on. before i could have it checked out, i was driving for only five minutes and a red indicator light came on and the car slowed down. it read, high engine temperature, stop safely. managed to get car home and checked the level of coolant/antifreeze. it was well below the min level. filled it up and the fluid leaked out right away. took it to ford dealer for service. it was a faulty coolant diverter valve that needed to be replaced. ford told me that it was not covered under the powertrain warranty which was a little confusing to me. also, i know there were many recalls on this vehicle that were taken care of. one involving cooling system. not sure if this problem i just had was related to a previous recall.

Multiple times check engine service engine fault now comes on, killing all power and steering to vehicle. stalled out in traffic, on highway, at a stop, low speed, no speed, high speed. lost all ability to accelerate or control vehicle. traction control sensor light lit up, check engine light lit up, airbag sensor lit up and yet running the check systems on it responds that all systems are normal and no active messages. previously had issue with a bad wheel sensor affecting rpm's, speed, and acceleration. it took the dealer 4 days to figure that out as no computer codes displayed. when turning the lights on manually, the sensor on the dash doesn't light up and it does not turn the lights on unless it is completely dark outside. not good for these rainy overcast mornings. the engine stalling happened in all different circumstances and traveling in inner city traffic and losing power has proven to be quite dangerous. it first happened yesterday while traveling short trip turning into parking lot. today it occurred 12 times in a span of a 25 mile trip with my granddaughter in the car. i read the ford website and ntsa ones and feel it could possibly be related to recall # 14s17 but when i run the vin number, it only shows active recall related to airbags. it has had multiple recalls since first 3 months of ownership and dealer where purchased never seems to know or have parts in order to address recall issues. the problem is that when this happens, you lose all ability to control the vehicle and there is no indication of when or where it's going to happen. we were sitting at an intersection and when the light turned green, i accelerated and it lost power and there was nowhere to get the vehicle off of the road as it was traffic all around us. i turned my hazards on and prayed we didn't get hit by the oncoming onslaught of traffic.

Vehicle powers down, leaks coolant , has rough ride, vibrates and has completely shut down atleast twice requiring a tow. engine has hot smell to it, as if it is coming from hot coolant . ford says "can't find a leak." they replaced a part on it, however i can not recall what it was because they were only guessing themselves as far as low coolant. however it did not fix it anyway. i have called ford many times, but they show no recalls to any of the problems i have mentioned. i am a single mom & nurse, i need a reliable vehicle. it is so depressing to make payments on vehicle. by the way i have no warranty. the issues occur at any time on any roads.

The jerking stuttering problem went for about a month and half. today it came back with a vengeance. while driving from massachusetts to new york to spend the holiday with the family got about 20 miles away from home started stuttering jerking then went to pay the toll slow down in traffic she died . 5 lane highway would start but put in drive died. nothing but problems since bought the thing. wife told me she don't even want to see it in the driveway ever again with all the problems she feels unsafe driving it

When shifting from sport mode (s) to drive (d), the shifter mechanism does not lock out neutral (which should require pressing the release button.) i pushed the shifter from sport directly to neutral, causing me to temporarily lose power while merging.

While driving down the highway i pushed on the accelerator to pass another car safely. the accelerator did not react for 4 seconds, this is a serious safety issue and if our government is not looking out for us, who is. i noticed other postings like this and i have complained to ford that i have a lemon and they have chosen not to do anything about it. do i need to start writing my senator or congress person for something to happen, what does it take for someone to notice these complaints, a death from these defects? ford has chosen to ignore it and apparently the nhtsa as well. i have had several issues with my escape and have complained to ford, i am a veteran and cannot afford a lawyer as i am putting three people through college. help!!!!!!!.....updated 10-27-15 *bf

Purchased my 2013 escape del on 4/2014, it's been back to dealership for a total of 32 days since i've owned it. they had to replace at no cost due to recall 13s12 the water pump, long block 1.6ltr engine, engine indicator asy-oil level, battery, vacuum pump, therm.assy, staring angle sensor, coolant bypass solenoid, lower standpipe hose. reprogrammed apim, pcm, icp, rcm. ford discontinued the 1.6 engine back 2015 and the sex model. i continually have system issues even after they replaced my engine. i want a different escape.

The vehicle was driving fine while utilizing cruise control going 70 mph. all of a sudden chime sounded and engine stalled. cluster had message "shift into park" my turn signals didn't work as well. instrument cluster died completely as i went to pull over. turned on hazards and shifted into park and restarted vehicle. was able to control the situation . *tr

When driving at highway speed suv jerks - sputters not all the time but the last time it was like a machine gun at 60mph. it stores no codes. been to ford 3 times the 2nd time a code of miss firing they change all plugs and coils. was on the highway a week later something.

While traveling down the highway in plover wisconsin, smoke began to pour into the vehicle via the front vents. i looked forward and saw massive flames coming from under my hood. i quickly pulled over, shut the vehicle off and ran. i call 911, where it took 15 firemen and 500 gal of water to put out the 10ft flames (see fire report). the entire front end of my car has been destroyed along with all the contents. the fire broke through the firewall and melted underneath the dashboard. front tires exploded

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the shaft and joint assembly, bushing, seals, right front axle, and shaft joint forward needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. five months later while driving at 65 mph, the contact noticed strong fuel fumes emitting in and around the vehicle. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel lines needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 13v584000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 54,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle decelerated, the transmission failed to shift into gear, and the check engine warning light illuminated. the engine was shut off and restarted, and the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred multiple times intermittently. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 14,200.

Recall repair done in august 2014 for well publicized localized overheating of cylinder head issue. have had two instances of overheating since... the last incident occurred on 2/19. the vehicle went to low power mode and instructed my wife to pull over immediately and stop engine... she did.... after sitting for approx 10 minutes she restarted the engine and temperatures returned to normal however the engine light is now on and i will be taking the vehicle for repairs again on monday. i am very concerned about the reliability of this vehicle and specifically this engine option. i have no idea what damage was caused by this latest incident... i'm sure there will be some residual longevity impacts if i keep the vehicle. i predict that this engine will continue to have issues.. both incidents did occur during extreme cold (below zero) so it seems to be cooling system related... which was the basis of the original recall. *tr

On january 28, 2015 , while driving the vehicle in the city of trujillo peru . the engine stopped, the witnesses of the engine , oil and also the battery sign lit up. so i decided to take the vehicle to the authorized ford ,, where ford mechanics determined that the engine had no oil, intercooler and ducts , spark burnt with oil residue workshop. then the workshop asks me to authorize disassemble the engine to repair , the vehicle had 12.583 km long, and is within the factory warranty then , ask the college of engineering of the city of trujillo to conduct an ocular inspection. to determine the cause of the fault and the determination of the severity occurred in the vehicle , of course with the consent of ford peru , ford which he refused to perform an expert .

Check engine light has been on since the beginning of 2014, always for the same code p0741. car does not drive properly at highway speeds as the torque converter does not lock up as intended. this in turn causes much lower fuel economy than the vehicle is capable and advertised to get. (23.5 hwy actual, should get 29-30 mpg) car has been in to ford 5 times and the problem has not been resolved. sent ford a last chance letter prior to the ast repair attempt. this attempt was scheduled by ford so one of the engineer experts could evaluate it. after they fed us a complete line of hogwash about an air bubble in the cooling system, they told us it was fixed. 70 miles after this visit, light is back on (same code) and mpg is still terrible. to top it off the coolant is leaking on the floor in garage and car runs rougher and has nearly stalled at intersections multiple times (with my 2 yr old daughter in the car) clearly they are incapable of repairing but informed us they will do nothing else. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the transmission was shifting abnormally in and out of gears and there was a sudden increase in engine rpms. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. during a second appointment, the technician determined that the computer needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who repaired the throttle body, the motor, the assembly control, the assembly transmission, and the gasket. the remedy failed to repair the failure. in addition, while traveling 45 mph downhill, the vehicle stalled and caused another vehicle to crash into the contact's vehicle. the contact sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical attention. a police report was filed. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (engine). the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

The engine had been idleing a little rough and stalled at a stop light. it restarted and then it would idle rough and like it was going to stall again. it has stalled a total of 3 times in the last 3 days and is idleing rough. ford dealer service dept. not open to get looked at. this is out of the blue and when i ran an engine diagnostic it came back normal. i dont trust this car now and am in the process of trying to trade it for a new toyota, but i am not sure i will be able to get rid of this vehicle. i see ford has had several issues with this and so far they cant find anything wrong. *tr

In order to park in the single bay of our three car side entry attached garage, you have to pull up to the post between the double and single bays, back up and pull forward. after pulling to about one foot from the garage support post and bringing the vehicle to a complete stop, i attempted to shift from drive to reverse. the escape suddenly accelerated into the post and our expedition parked in the right hand side of the double bay. it felt like i had been slammed into from behind. with the engine racing i was able to use the start/stop button to stop the engine. the post was driven over three feet into the garage and the expedition was hit with so much force that it jumped about an inch onto the cement curb in front of the garage. hitting the expedition prevented the garage post (wood and brick) from totally collapsing. the escape has the 1.6l eco-boost engine and was purchased in oct. 2012. it has been driven only 5,904 miles. at 5,672 miles the dealership had the vehicle for three days for three recalls 13s12, 14s04 and 14s03. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2013 ford escape. the contact stated while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate as the check engine warning lamp illuminated. the dealer was notified of the failure however, the dealer stated that they were unable to service the vehicle and no repairs were made. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

On 5/31/14, upon starting vehicle (2.0 l, sel), vehicle running rough, sputtering, lurching when accelerator was depressed, etc. message on dash screen stated "engine fault - service now". drove car approximately 8 miles to a ford dealer i was not familiar with. turned car off but then decided to move car. started car, all issues disappeared, so i left and drove car 35 miles to my home with no issues. drove car until 6/20/14 when exact symptoms happened again. drove car with symptoms occurring to local ford dealer. mechanic suspected cooing system problem, turned off engine without hooking up to computer for diagnosis. minutes later, mechanic decided problem was not cooling system related since escape was a 2.0 l (cooling system problems apparently occur with 1.6 l models), but was instead the map sensor which was replaced on 6/26/14. next day (6/27/14) after map sensor replacement, same exact issues. no time to take to a dealer, so i shut it off and restarted it and all symptoms disappeared. drove regularly until 7/16/14, when exact symptoms occurred again. drove directly to local ford dealer, left it running. they hooked up the diagnostic computer while running which showed error code related to map sensor again. explained to mechanic that my research has indicated that tsb 13-12-12 might address the problem which is related to wiring in the "signal return splices." he agreed. made appointment for next day, 7/17/14. upon starting on 7/17/14, same symptoms. turned off, restarted, symptoms cleared and i drove it with no issues to my local ford dealer. local dealer called and said they looked at the wire splices, made some "adjustments" (no new parts) and that vehicle is ready for pick up. if this occurs again, which i believe it will, i will ask for wire harness replacement to the signal return(s). dangerous, well-documented problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle rolled backward after being stopped on an incline. the contact mentioned that both the accelerator and brake pedal needed to depress in order to ensure that the vehicle would not roll backwards. no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure recurred on a regular basis. the manufacturer was not contacted. there was no diagnostic test completed on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 15,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated. in addition, the contact stated that the service immediately warning light illuminated and the rpms would increase and decrease. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (engine) and experienced failures after the repair. the specifics on the failures after the recall was performed were not available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

Vehicle sputtered and shut off while in traffic at approx. 35 mph. this has happened 3 more times, it is now at the dealer for the 4th time in attempt to repair. ford has so far been unable to provide the dealer with an adequate explanation or fix. the dealer has been more than cooperative but is at the mercy of ford. a vehicle shutting off for no apparent reason and without warning could lead to serious injuries. *tr

Vehicle bucked, lurched and went into "limp mode" and would not accelerate over 40 mph on a 70 mph interstate highway (just as i was trying to enter the highway) engine service light came on and i called ford roadside to have it towed to the dealership. this was actually the second time. this had happened previously but i cannot find the date - that time, i was entering the same interstate and the car did the same thing and i "limped" the car to the dealership (only being able to drive 40 mph on a 60 mph four lane highway.) on 6/3/2014, the car did the same thing as i was attempting to enter interstate 35 (70 mph) - again - bucking, lurching and then going into the "limp mode". very scared to drive this car anywhere as i fear being hit or killed on the highways because of the cars inability to go anywhere near the speed limit. this is very much a safety issue especially for the area that i live in because all the roadways around me are at least 60 mph or higher and ford has not been able to fix this problem. the car's engine is now idling very rough, too, so there are other issues with this engine. *tr

When i tried again to start up my car today, the powertrain was producing smoke. ford agreed to buyback my car in mid december 2013 but they have still not been following through on their written contract. i have contacted ford's rav dept along with emailing ford's tier1 customer support everytime my car has caught on fire. i have also let the dealer know of my issues. i have tweeted to @ford, @fordservice, @fordescape about my car. they are aware my car's overheating and transmission issues. no one from ford has offered to put me in a loaner car while they try to reissue my 'lost' buyback check. they'd rather me drive around a car that catches on fire. i suspect they are trying to hit a quarterly goal and are stalling to q2. i paid cash for my car so i'm sure my buyback is impacting their budgeting. the smoke from the powertrain triggered my asthma. *tr

When i tried to start up my car today, the powertrain was producing smoke. ford agreed to buyback my car in mid december 2013 but they have not been following through on their written contract. i have contacted ford's rav dept, i have tweeted to @ford, @fordservice, @fordescape about my car's issues yet they have not contacted me back about where my repurchase check is at or try to get me a replacement vehicle while this process is occurring. they are aware my car's overheating and transmission issues. *tr

My automatic transmission is not shifting when i drive uphill and it's causing the engine to rev at redline. when i was driving back from la over the weekend, the car struggled the entire drive. something was burning under the hood. the engine was also overheating while driving uphill. ford agreed to buyback this death trap in mid dec 2013 but they have been stalling the entire process. apparently my check is missing. i don't want to be in this car when either it burst into flames, the transmission or engine seizes. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving highway speeds, the transmission would randomly downshift, which caused the engine to rev and the speed to decelerate. an unknown dealer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000.

The traction control system on the vehicle is a hazard. with no more than 3-4 inches of snow the vehicle would not accelerate to get me and occupants out of oncoming traffic. a close call when my only option was to back up and the people behind me to offer me room. the vehicle sits with the accelerator floor or modulated but will not move. after reading the owners manual it tells me " in some instances of deep snow" (not!) turn off the traction control via these 4-5 steps. how the hell are you going to do that when your going to get hit. in my estimation this is a hazard! their traction control is a danger it does not work period. my wife and i were scared needless to say. try it, you'll see what i mean. *tr

Now that it is colder out, my car has gone from overheating to misfiring from the defective cac/torque converter in this car. i've noticed that the misfiring does not show up on the check engine light or was able to be read by my obd reader. misfiring can ruin the catalytic converter and cause emission issues. it is illegal in california (where i'm a resident) to not follow the obd ii protocol for reporting emission problems since we have this inspected for registration. when my car has overheated, only ford was able to pull the code & i also didn't get a check engine light. it's apparent now that ford has rigged the obd in this car so that only they can retrieve codes. misfiring is easy for you to replicate to verify my statement. unplug one cylinder, start the car, see if you get a flashing check engine light and a p030x code. *tr

Loses and regains power. transmission reached 9000rpms. car jerked car behind me almost hit me. hard shifting constantly. *tr

Vehicle started with warning 'engine fault service now'. restarted vehicle and message was gone. later that day while driving we noticed severe jerking of the vehicle while changing speeds and noticed the engine fault warning was displayed. pulled vehicle over. restarted and the warning was gone. brought to dealer for over 2 days and they were unable to reproduce error and therefore unable to fix anything. months later the problem started recurring again while reducing speed on a highway exit resulting in extreme vehicle jerking as if transmission was failing, at this time we noticed the engine fault warning had reappeared. contacted ford service center and they will take another look, but without a recall there will be nothing that can do. with so many similar complaints it is astonishing that this is not a known resolvable issue for ford. *tr

Within just 3 weeks of purchasing our certified pre-owned 2013 escape titanium (16k miles), the vehicle stalled twice while stopping at an intersection. dash lights come on, put it in park, turn it off and restart and i am back on the road. now 2 months since purchase, it has stalled like this 7 times. a few times, we have gotten the "engine fault take vehicle for service" message when starting the vehicle, but this does not coincide with the days of the stalls. i have taken it to the local ford dealership twice to no avail. the vehicles computer is not storing any codes to identify the failure. technicians have driven the vehicle extensively with a laptop constantly diagnosing searching for issues. nothing. this is truly unbelievable to me that this problem is possible in a new vehicle, let alone that it cannot be diagnosed! i am very worried after reading other complaints on this site that it may just be a matter of time before it stalls in busy traffic. *js

Vehicle stalls, cuts off for no apparent reason. most recently on an exit ramp, almost got hit from behind. will usually start right back up and run normally. has happened 4 times in the last 6 weeks. dealer could find no codes, left at dealership over weekend, but it didn't happen for them. my sister has the same year, make, model, and problem. *js

While driving, in humid weather conditions the vehicle lost power and began lurching, shuddering and jerking. center, driver side screen (behind steering wheel) displayed "engine fault - service now". was able to drive about a mile back home in "limp mode". i shut off the engine, waited and then restarted and all seemed ok. next day i went to the ford dealer's service and explained the problem. they could not pull any codes and said it was probably just a "fluke". ... it's happened again twice more this week since then. it's not a "fluke". ford engineers need to get involved here to determine the cause of the problem, and communicate with the dealer service centers, and issue a tsb fix or recall. it's become a serious performance and reliability concern, and a very serious safety issue as well. i can find similar complaints to mine all over the internet, yet ford claims ignorance of any problems.???? *tr

My car has overheated twice after the recall fix. my coolant was violently boiling over. my transmission is also grossly shifting incorrectly. i almost got hit by another car when i was trying to merge onto the freeway since it wasn't going to the next gear. the transmission redlined and then shifted. i checked my obt and i'm not getting any codes for these problems. i'm not sure what to do anymore since anytime i've brought my car in they haven't found any issues. i've brought my car in several times about the engine and transmission and no issues have been found. i drive through the santa cruz mountains every week and i'm afraid one day my engine will catch on fire (hilly roads and low speeds cause the engine to run hot). it would be disastrous for the state of california if a wildfire was started due to this car. *tr

After owning this vehicle for one month, the transmission had to be completely replaced. about a month after the new transmission was placed, i started having problems with the car not wanting to accelerate. i would be merging onto the freeway or pulling into traffic and the car would not accelerate. the rpm's would go way up, but the car would not move. i am fearful anytime i drive this car that it may not accelerate when i need it to and i'll end up in a vehicle accident. i have had my escape into the dealership 5 times for this same issue. the last time i had it in, ford put in a flight simulator. after ford evaluated the simulator findings, ford engineers said this was "normal"; they will no longer evaluate the issue. i am truly scared in this vehicle and i've only owned it for one year!!! help! *tr

Had regular oil change on 4/15/13 and about a week after. while coming to a stopped the vehicle just stalled without warning. had to come to come to complete stop to put car in park and restart. ran vehicle health report--nl. went to dealer who did oil change and said they never heard of this car doing it . if happened again call roadside. 05/29/13 at 545pm car stalled again no warning. called crown ford set up appt for mon. 06/10. 6/7/13 558am car again stalled at about 35 mph no warning had to put in neutral apply brake to restart since i was on road with no shoulder and mid curve. keep appt for mon. at about 423pm that day started car and engine fault noted on start tried to drive out of parking garage. car was missing and barely moving. transmission made loud clunk noise. coasted car down parking garage so tow truck would be able to access it. towed to crown ford. offered vehicle health report i ran stating it was powertrain issue. they declined needed it. checked and replace map sensor. picked up on 6/11/13 and 06/12/13 stalled again early in the morning about 600am and then i was advised to bring back to dealer. stalled again on way to dealer approximately 1130 am. advised service dealer they ran diagnostic for the next week which all came back normal. service manager drove on 06/17 and stated problem reproduced and would replace throttle body.this was done and i picked up on 06/21. 06/23 at approximately 204 pm car stalled again...restarted after putting in neutral unable to come to a stop vehicles behind us...restarted when restarted engine missing again when pushed gas the transmission seemed to make a clunk noise and stalled again.the vehicle without notice stalls and is a great safety issue and after last stall the rpm seems to rev up some.this is a major defect and life threatening defect. vehicle randomly stalls & now revs rpms. *tr

2013 ford escape sel 2.0l. recurrent issues with "engine fault service now" displaying when car is started (first instance at 5817 miles, now at 11k and still happening). results in rough idle, poor shifting, harsh acceleration. can be reset with restart so the error must be visible and the car driven (in terrible and unsafe condition) so the dealer can validate the condition. condition validated at dealer twice (has occurred five times total) computer has been reset twice, map sensor has been replaced. issue still occurring with no proposed repair to resolve. *tr

While depressing the brake pedal in order to bring the vehicle to a full stop at a stop sign in a residential neighborhood, the engine raced and the vehicle lurched forward beyond the stop sign. i, the driver, was required to quickly place the vehicle into neutral gear as the acceleration of the engine and the fully depressed brake pedal seemed to be fighting against each other. *tr

I started my vehicle in the morning using the remote start feature. after about 10 minutes, i entered my vehicle, backed out of my driveway and put it in drive. upon depressing the accelerator, the car hesitated, then surged, hesitated again and then stalled in the middle of the road. i put my hazard warning on and attempted to restart the vehicle. it would not restart. i finally was able to restart the vehicle after about 5 minutes and limped it back into my driveway. i called for tow service and had it towed to the dealership where i purchased it. the service manager informed me several times that there were no logged faults in the ecm even though i had a check engine light immediately after this occurred. later however, i learned from the actual mechanic, that there were several codes logged and there was a technical bulletin out to update the body control module with new software. the tech stated he could not do that however as his tooling would not show the bcm module or allow him to program it even though the directions stated his version of tooling software should allow it. they called ford tech support and received no answers. they sent me on my way with my vehicle and did not do anything with it. i'm fearful the issue has not been resolved and poses a safety risk due to lack of acceleration and stalling. *tr

Stopped at a busy intersection highway at traffic light, traffic light turned green for me to proceed my car would not move as if the vehicle was in neutral, shift selector was in drive position depressing the accelerator pedal raised engine rpm with no vehicle movement. i put the vehicle in the park position than back into drive still no forward movement. i put the vehicle back in park turned ignition off, restarted car moved selector back into drive and drove off ?? went to my ford dealer explained the problem ,they ran checks scanned codes came up no code faults. i was told to continue to drive the vehicle to see if the problem comes back. 786 miles on odometer no re occurrence. very concerning to me when will this happen again! going thru the above procedure lucky i wasn't hit from behind by a car or truck. *tr

My wife was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. the car was at a stop when it accelerated suddenly for a short burst. the brakes did not hold the vehicle in one spot and she tapped the vehicle in front of her cause two minor scratches on the other vehicle's bumper. our insurance company has been contacted and is in the process of getting the other vehicle repaired. the escape did not sustain any noticeable damage. the escape is heading back to the dealership to be looked at. this has only occurred once that we know of but i have noticed once that the vehicle did jump a bit in rpms and speed while driving it at a steady speed on a fairly flat road. *tr

There is an acceleration lag on partial throttle. this mainly occurs when starting the vehicle or when accelerating after a turn. when no acceleration is felt, the throttle pedal is depressed further and, after a delay, the vehicle takes off like a rocket. when driving the vehicle using the manual shift mode, it operates without an acceleration delay. the vehicle was brought to the dealership for this problem. they looked at the vehicle and stated it drives like all of the other 1.6 liter escape vehicles on their lot. the delay in acceleration has the potential to cause an accident. a side issue is with sync. the clock loses time, it's very slow to respond, it isn't always able to sync phones, understand voice commands, and it's locked up...requiring a master reset. there's also too much road noise transmitted to those on the other end...consequently, it's difficult for them to hear the conversation. *tr

Repeated service on the car with health report stating powertrain fault-service immediately. with the help of the bbb ford sent a field service representative to dealer and replaced several items. picked up the car april 28 and it seemed improved. on may 25th car experienced the same problem. ran health report and it states "urgent-powertrain fault/reduced power. we have had the car into ford many times for this problem and they act as if no one every has had this issue before. i have read your report regarding the problems with ecoboost and feel that our problems with the car are the same. *tr

2013 ford escape situation is that when i transfer my foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal, besides lightly braking the vehicle experiences a surge in acceleration ... causing unexpected acceleration when the driver would expect the vehicle to be braking. there are 1 or 2 problems: 1) the brake pedal is too close to the accelerator pedal [more so for a male driver with a wider foot than a female driver]. 2) the brake pedal has too much movement while the driver is trying to brake, in that pressure on the brake pedal pushes the pedal to and past the accelerator petal; in that if the foot is not exactly on the brake pedal, the accelerator pushes down and causes a power surge, when the driver is expecting the vehicle to be braking. the problem is the design and function of the brake pedal. the brake petal has such a long travel, that when a person's foot is not 100% on the brake that the foot also presses on the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to surge forward unexpectedly, instead of stopping. this is most likely to happen with a man's foot, being wider than a female's foot. i have experienced this on various occasions; all of which caused an extremely traumatic situation(s): 1) traveling on the freeway, when traffic backs up or another vehicle changes into my driving lane - in either condition, where forced to brake 'unexpectedly', the vehicle surges forward. 2) when braking at an intersection, taking the foot from the accelerator to the brake, initially the car slows down, but when the brake is pressed to stop the car, the car accelerates unexpectedly, i.e, a pedestrian is crossing the street in an intersection and the vehicle accelerates unexpectedly and possibly injuring the pedestrian. the ford dealer said that they cannot fix a "design flaw". *tr

I currently have a law suit pending with ford motor company for numerous issues with this vehicle. one of my major complaints is that this vehicle has a transmission that lunges and is not smooth. it frequently feels like you will not make it through an intersection when you accelerate due to hesitation. the vehicle tachs 3 or 4 number when transitioning between gears. ford has had my vehicle at the dealer several times. they replaced some parts on the transmission and had an engineer examine the vehicle and run tests for one week. the conclusion was that there is nothing wrong with the transmission. it is supposedly just how an ecoboost engine works. it is still an onging issue for me 6 months later. *tr
