The throttle body went out on the freeway w/ o warning. i found out ford has known about this for years and has not done anyything about it , in motion
My wife's car lost all power and she was able to coast it to a safe in downtown pittsburgh, got it towed to our mechanic and there's an active code for the electric throttle body motor stuck closed
In july 2016 i was experiencing a fuel odor in the escape. i took it to a mechanic on july 20, 2016 and had to replace the fuel pump and fuel pump gasket. total cost for those repairs wa $643.44 (i have the receipt). am i eligible for a reimbursement?
Hello, a few months ago i purchased a used 2011 ford escape flex fuel from infinity/volkswagen of fairfield, ca 94533. during the time my wife and i have been driving it, i have experienced some major troubles with the vehicle. when driving in the city or on the highway at any speed, the vehicles gas pedal all of a sudden loses pressure and i have no more gas. promptly after that , the car begins to shake and eventually i have to pull over for safety reasons. this has happened more than 10 times now. i have been to the dealership 3 times already and explained to them what's going on. they just brushed it off and said " come back when the engine lights come on." i was very mad and frustrated but i let it be. over the fourth of july weekend i was driving the vehicle the problem happened again this time i was on the freeway and had to immediately pull over because i was in the fast lane. it was so fast that i collided with the side of the shoulder to right of the fast lane and hit a dirt patch. things could have been a lot worse. thank god nobody was hurt. im saying that my wife is the daily driver of the vehicle and to think that she is pregnant and has my 2 year old son if she was driving it things would be a lot worse for the dealership. i'm sick and tired of being treated like this. i'm a marine corps veteran and to be treated like [xxx] in the dealership tell me to "leave and have good day" is terrible. this is the third vehicle that i have purchased from them and by no means will there be any more business with them after this. not caring about the safety of customers is wrong. i do not want this vehicle anymore. i repeat i do not want this vehicle anymore. i need something done about this please. if not i have no choice but to write my congressman about this situation, the department of veterans affairs and a lawyer. i hope that we can handle this in a civil manner. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Takata recall stopped at stop sign tried to move forward would only move at a tiny crawl red wrench light came on made it home still only barely moving. turned motor off restarted everything seemed to be back to normal. now i'm afraid to drive in very much traffic. if this happens on busy highway could be extremely dangerous. i need to know what to do.
My 2011 ford escape limited vin number [xxx] while driving loses all acceleration which requires me to pull the vehicle over turn it off and restart the car so it will run normal again. this happened 6 times to me while i was driving on the highway. after getting the codes run it came back with p2111 - throttle actuator control system - stuck open. i have seen many complaints about this online and to be honest it is a very scary experience when it happens because it is a huge safety issue while driving, i am lucky it didn't cause an accident or worse. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving and making a turn, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. in addition, the fuel fill inlet warning light illuminated. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic power steering failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 09/22/16*lj *cn
Several times when driving the car at a high rate of speed (55+) the smell of gas fumes are very strong inside the car. this is espically true when the a/c/ is on high.
An o2/exhaust sensor & fuel induction kit had to be replaced. this suv has only 13700 miles on it. the dealer said that the parts were faulty. my bumper to bumper warranty went out last july 2014, so it wasn't covered. i feel that ford needs to investigate if other vehicles have this same problem. i should also be reimbursed for my cost. *tr
When driving the steering wheel seems hard to control. the suv seems to sputter as i press on the accelerator, and the engine (motor) seems to miss when acceleration is between 20 and 40 mph. next, when accelerating past 60 the engine missing or (cutting out symptom) occurs. *tr
Driving on freeway approx 65 mph, no warning, engine completely stops. thankfully able to drift over to shoulder of exit lane and restarted with no detectable issues. asked mechanics to run alternator diagnostics - as they said the alternator was the only thing that would make an engine completely cut off. tested ok. parked for weekend. same thing happened on monday morning. searched for problem online, found throttle body comments. called local dealer - service adviser told me it was covered under recall, but appointment setter told me it wasn't. we'll see when i get there tomorrow. very terrifying experience - i'm lucky i travel at very early traffic times. i don't think i will ever feel safe in the vehicle after reading so many similar stories. *tr
Driving down freeway at 65 mph, all of a sudden the engine cuts out and i have no power. the wrench warning light in the dash came on. i pulled off to the side of the road turned the key off and restarted the car. it drove fine the next 3 miles to my home. *js
Driving down road and just quit running. *tr
Vehicle continued to jump, then continued to have problems. throttle body was the cause. *js
Upon starting the vehicle it operates as it should, once the rpm slow to an idle the vehicle will surge and stall at idle. at slow speeds (10-20 mph) the vehicle will surge and stall when the throttle is applied. the vehicle shuts down and steering and braking abilities are minimal, the vehicle will surge at speeds of 45mph however it does not stall at this speed. on the highway at a speed of 70 mph the vehicle will surge slightly, however it is not as noticeable of an event as at slower speeds. *tr
The vehicle accelerated quickly from a stopped position upon starting in the morning. i have to put my foot on the brake to keep it from surging forward even though i have not pressed the gas peddle at all. vehicle jolts forward suddenly during driving at slow speeds and often when starting from a stop. also sometimes increases acceleration when coasting at a medium speed when no gas has been applied. *tr
I have had this vehicle for one year, and it would be impossible to recount all of the times it has stalled on me while driving it. it has stalled in parking lots, in heavy stop-and-go traffic, making turns, pulling into my driveway, and accelerating to enter the freeway. it started within two months of purchase. i took it to a ford dealership in august of 2014 where they performed recall work which included throttle body replacement, reprogrammed the pcm, and a power steering advisory item. the vehicle continued to stall. the stalling seems to happen just after fill-up and happens intermittently until the gas gauge reads less than three-fourths and at low speeds. i filled it up yesterday, and it has stalled seven times since then. it happens when coasting to a stop or making a turn. on the freeway at high speeds, it runs well. the issue was compounded in february when it was discovered that the evap canister was full of gas. it, along with a tube hose assembly (bl8z9d667b-af), was replaced only for it to happen again. the purge valve was stuck open and had to be replaced along with a second evap canister. the stalling issue continued, and the dealership found the canister to be saturated with gas again. this time, they said they would have to replace the gas tank to correct the issue as they believe it is a valve built into the tank which seems absurd. i have not done this since they quoted a cost of over $2000. even if i have that done, it will only correct the canister issue, not the stalling. i have read hundreds of posts on the internet from people who have the exact same problems with the same model year as i have. these are both issues that i believe to be the result of a defect in the manufacturing of this vehicle due to the volume of owners who are experiencing the same problems. i feel ford needs to step up and correct these issues.
1st time i was coming to a stop at a light and the vehicle wanted to surge forward several times, when light turned green i tried to accelerate and it hesitated. this would happen every now and again, not a continuous issue. in dec 2014 it happened again this time with the vehicle stalling, put in park and it started right up but hesitated when accelerating, did this several times within a 5 mile span. parked, did my 8 hour work day came out, started right up and no issues driving home. later that night my husband drove it and it stalled on him 3 times with the check engine light coming on. code p144a came up, took it to my mechanic and was told the code thrown should not cause stalling issues. this has been an ongoing battle, sometimes the vehicle running great, sometimes i don't know if i'll make it to my destination. this happens at all speeds; in city, interstate, or at a complete stop. i only have 72000 in mileage and my vehicle is well kept, what is going on?!? *tr
I have no idea what part is bad.... i was driving on a open highway and all of a sudden i had no speed, it was as if i had taken my foot off the accelerator, i was able to get it off the highway but when it was idling, it was running really rough. after setting for awhile it seemed to run ok but of course being a lady i am very uncomfortable driving it now. my husband took it to our dealer, astorg ford, they said it was the throttle body and they would replace the defected part but didn't have it in stock, they would get it in a few days but still sent it back home for me to drive and of course i will not drive it till it is fixed, i think it was bad on their part to send the escape back to me the way it is. thank you *tr
Accelerating from traffic light, in left lane, in heavy traffic. the car slowed down and would not respond to accelerator. manage to maneuver to the side of the road. shut off engine and restarted engine. all appeared normal. i maneuvered to a road with less traffic to continue home. the problem occurred again within a mile. *tr
On 1/10/14 upon pulling onto an exit off of a major interstate as i slowed down the engine shut off. the vehicle had power but the engine shut off on it's own. i put hazard lights on, car in park and started again fine. again later that evening i was on my way home from work and upon pulling off an exit the engine stalled again. 1/11/14 i drove home on a major highway, came to stop light and engine lost power again. i was able to coast to a stop and park. engine restarted fine and vehicle proceeded to stall at the next intersection. this to me is dangerous losing engine power. i am afraid this could cause me to be rear-ended if this keeps up. i am seeing the dealer first thing next week. *tr
My daughter was driving, and had pulled from a stop sign. the vehicle seemed to stall, and she had no control- no brakes, no throttle, the emergency brake didn't stop her, and she finally pushed it into park and that did nothing. it rolled to a stop, although the engine seemed to be running. she turned off the engine, and after a few minutes, restarted it. it restarted, and she proceeded to drive to her destinations which was closeby. very scary, but fortunately, no other real traffic, but this could have been tragic. *tr
After intermittent 3 times in 2 weeks, had throttle body cleaned 12/14/2013 per ford tsb. on this date, 12/16/13 it failed again and had the throttle body replaced at my expense. ford would not cover it after 36,000 or 3 years as out of warranty. it was an extremely hazardous condition not to replace. this part should be recalled immediately for replacement. *tr
While turning into a parking lot my vehicle's accelerator quit functioning. this was the second time within a 14 day period. to overcome the problem, i shut the vehicle off via the key, waited 3 minutes and tried again. same thing. next i shut off the engine and waited 5 minutes and the throttle body began functioning again. i drove the vehicle to a repair shop where they cleaned the affected part and re-installed it. *tr
The escape leaks gasoline throughout the gas pump only when it's turned on. and the back door doesn't open, it's locked. *tr
Several weeks earlier, as a was stopped at a traffic light, my car started bucking or surging, feeling as though it was going to stall. it did not stall at that point. a few minutes later, as a was slowed down by a bus, it did stall. restarted very easily and i kept driving. every few days, we would notice the surging, and the check engine light was on. took it to the dealer and the was told there was a problem with the fuel system, but they weren't sure what exactly. stalled a second time post dealer visit. this morning, as i was in motion at 35 miles an hour, the car suddenly shut off. i coasted very easily to the shoulder, but could not restart. car has been towed to the local dealer. awaiting their answer, but sounds very much like the other throttle body issues i've read on here. i'm fortunate to have been on the highway yet, especially with my young child in the back seat. this was a scary situation, and i'm not pleased that the previous recall did not include the 2011 model year. please reopen the investigation. *tr
I was on i80 heading westbound through lincoln. all the sudden i felt a thump and lost all acceleration. i was in the center lane (of three lane traffic) and was surrounded by semi trucks. thankfully i was able to get my hazard lights on and coast over to the shoulder. i called aaa for a tow and took my vehicle to the nearest ford dealer. i was advised that i had a stuck throttle body. they said this is quite common for this year/make/model of vehicle. they replaced the throttle body under warranty and sent me on my way. i feel very fortunate that i was able to coast to the side of the interstate. i had recently taken an 1800 mile road trip with my children through dallas and houston. i am so grateful this didn't occur on our trip. *tr
Accelerator ceased working while vehicle was in motion. this was the 3rd instance in 2 months; however, the first time that pumping the accelerator failed to correct the issue. turning off the engine and restarting the vehicle was required to correct at this point. required the replacement of the throttle body. *tr
Vehicle cut off while driving 65mph on highway with no warning. *tr
I started accelerating after being at a complete stop at a light. halfway through the intersection, the throttle lost power and i could no longer accelerate. the wrench light came on and i had to coast over to the side of the road with my hazards on until i could get out of traffic. as i applied the breaks and the car slowed down, it started shaking until i could put the car in park. i then turned off the engine for about 30 seconds. when i restarted the engine, it took longer than usual to start but seemed to be running fine and was not shaking. after waiting for it to run without problem, i slowly accelerated the car to continue my commute. within 2 minutes of driving, the issue occurred again and both the wrench light and the check engine light came on. i once again pulled over, stopped the car, and turned off the engine. after i restarted the car, i drove to a gas station who was able to hook up the engine to a computer scanner. the technician came back with what he said was an " o2 sensor code." he checked my fluids and reset the computer to turn off the check engine light and said i should be fine to drive the 30 miles home but should get it checked out asap. within 20 miles of driving, the incident happened again. so i took it to the dealer. since the check engine light was reset, there is no record of the code that came up, so the dealer spent an hour trying to get it to act up but has had no luck. the service advisor did say that although they cannot get the car to repeat the problem, they highly suspect that the throttle body needs to be replaced. *tr
The vehicle suddenly lost power when crossing intersection. wrench light came on . could have been very dangerous with heavy traffic situation. car limped home [fortunately only 300 yards] @ less than walking pace. not happy and has affected my confidence in expensive vehicle. luckily ford agent helpful. *tr
The vehicle went to idle and would not accelerate until the engine was switched off and restarted. it has happened several times since. our dealer says they cant diagnose unless they have the vehicle while it is in idle only. *tr
The vehicle experienced a fuel surge causing a reaction that was not intended by the driver. the car joltedas if one mashed the accelerator then released repeatedly. once the vehicle came to a stop the car spit and sputtered like bad engine timing. we turned the vehicle off where it sat overnight. it was hard to start this morning and experienced the same problem twice this morning while taking the kids to school. i stopped by an advanced auto parts store where the attendant pulled the service code p2112 throttle actuator stuck closed. *tr
While driving down the road at 40 vehicle stalled out, had to pull over to the side of the road with and shut down and restarted. drove vehicle home and stalled out 3 more times within couple miles. have read other complaints on this and cannot believe a recall has not been implemented. *tr
Wrench light came on, all throttle response stopped. i was left at a traffic light with a car that would barely move. took the car to the dealer - they tried to charge me to replace the electronic throttle body. the car was only out of warranty by 1000 miles. ended up compromising on paying $100. ford needs to fix this. they know it's an issue. *tr
Was driving down the highway at 55 mph and all of a sudden my vehicle would no longer accelerate. luckily i was able to safely pull over and once i came to a stop i noticed my vehicle was idling rough and would not respond to the throttle and noticed the light with a wrench was also on. i turned the vehicle off and was able to start it back up and make it home and after doing some research this seems to be a very common problem with the ford escape. will be taking to a dealer to see what they can do. *tr
I was driving down i-80 at 65 mph and all of a sudden i had no power with my gas pedal and my engine light (wrench) came on. my car was still running, but when i pressed the gas pedal it did nothing. i pulled off to the side of the road and called for road assistance. sitting there my rpm's was around 1,000 and my car would shake. while waiting for a tow truck, i shut my car off and then started it again. when i pressed on the gas it started to go again. however, when i tried to get back on the interstate i had no power again and my engine light came back on. i had my car towed to a ford dealership and they checked it and they said that the throttle body was the problem. *tr
While driving down the interstate at aprox. 65mph my car lost all speed and quit responding to the gas pedal. i was able to make it to the side of the interstate. my car was still running (rough) so i turned it off. after several min i tried to restart the car (per my mechanic knowledge) and it started right up. i drove to the nearest ford dealer and after they inspected my car was told i needed a throttle body. so needless to say $461 later my car is fixed but really annoyed that 9000 miles out of warranty things are already falling apart. *tr
While daughter driving vehicle in houston, driving on freeway, approx. 65 mph, vehicle lost engine acceleration power, no response from gas pedal, warning lights (wrench symbol) illuminated. had to coast/idle across traffic lanes to get to shoulder out of traffic- very dangerous and scary - turned off engine, restarted, vehicle then operated as normal at the time, but event has since been recurring. now has happened 6 other times... very dangerous situation for any driver, especially a young driver. might add that this particular model is very popular with young adults - you will see many in college towns. very dangerous. internet research reveals many complaints and probable cause suspected to be throttle body malfunction. manufacturer must be aware by now. having car repaired - expecting cost of approximately $600 - $800. *tr
While driving down the freeway the car suddenly surged for a second and then lost all power. there was no gas going to the engine and i could not produce any speed. i had to coast to a stop while moving over in the freeway lane to the shoulder. when i did stop, the engine sounded like it had trouble getting fuel to it. i turned off the engine and sat for a second and when i turned the car back on it started up and would go. over the past months this has happened on and off. some days it drives fine and then all of a sudden it will do the same aspect. *tr
When on freeway loses all throttle have to coast to side of road and restart. had to replace the throttle body at dealership with a total cost of 533.13. was not covered under warranty? *tr
I was driving approx. 10 mph, the gas peddle stopped working, i would press it but nothing happened. the little wrench appeared on the dash. i stopped and the motor started running loudly and roughly shaking the vehicle. i put it in park, turned off the key, waiting a moment and restarted it. the restart took longer then normal but it was fine after that. this has happened 5 times now, each time i was going approx. 10-15 mph. it's dangerous because the car cannot driven out of the way of other vehicles. the 3rd time this happened i was slowing turning left through an intersection, there was oncoming traffic, had the car not cut off, i would have been safe to clear the intersection however it cut off making the oncoming driver swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting me. it's very scary and dangerous. *tr
Throttle quit working.would only idle and check engine light and wrench light came on.pulled off on the side of the road and had to cut engine off and back on to get throttle working. happened again one week later.just lucky was not on interstate in heavy traffic doing 70 mph. both times engine code was p2111, throttle actuator stuck open. vehicle has 60000 miles on it and dealer said throttle body was not under power train and was only covered under the 3/36 warranty. purchased new throttle body at dealer and parts manager said it was the fourth revision to the part number. hope they got it right this time, it could put you in a very dangerous situation. *tr
At highway speed, vehicle's 'maintenance required' light came on and the throttle pedal became unresponsive. engine held steady at approx. 1000rpm. pulled off to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. restarted vehicle and throttle was responsive again. this incident has occurred an additional three times since the initial occurrence. each time, turning the vehicle off and restarting has temporarily fixed the problem. *tr
The car just quit on the four lane highway in the passing lane and a couple of times on the city street in town found the throttle body and motor assemble bad. *tr
While driving tonight i lost power and came to a complete stop. i was on my way home from work and luckily not on the freeway. i am 21 weeks pregnant and this really scared me. i had the car towed to the ford dealer. when they called to tell us what was wrong they said it was the throttle body. it is no longer under warranty. before we gave them the ok to fix it we looked online and discovered that this was a known issue with the ford escapes. when i called back i asked if what we read was true and if this part gets replaced a lot on these cars. the service person confirmed. i then asked if it became a recall would we get our money back and i was told we would. this car is only 2.5 years old and we had to replace something already. $475 out of our pocket! *tr
After coming to a near stop, the engine began to surge and the vehicle lurched 6 or 7 times. after touching the throttle, the engine became responsive again. *tr
At highway speed, engine and drive train became totally unresponsive on congested dallas freeway. wrench light came on, no other indications. vehicle lost all speed and was forced to cross traffic lanes with no motive power to safety lane very nearly causing three different traffic accidents with other vehicles. totally limp. once parked, shut off motor and restarted. engine started and drive train engaged again. wrench light no longer appeared, no other indicating lamps or errors. returned to roadway and within 5 minutes same thing recurred. pulled over, restarted engine, drive train reengaged, returned to roadway and exited to side roads to home. once on the side road, same thing happened again in front of a semi coming up from behind and narrowly escaped getting hit from behind before pulling over again. same routine occurred 4 more times before i could get it into the dealership. last occurrence in addition to the wrench light coming on and off, the engine light came on and stayed on. vehicle condition is known, reported multiple times and has been investigated by the nthsb already without a recall. this known condition is extremely dangerous to the operators of affected vehicles and to other unsuspecting motorist and the general public. pressure needs to be applied to ford motor company to address this matter and notify affected owners and operators of affected vehicles. today the vehicle is at the dealership and with just a thousand or so miles over warranty, dealer says it is not covered and the estimated $600 repair is my issue. *tr
