ACCELERATOR PEDAL 1

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2011 Ford Escape

Driving the truck suddenly would not accelerate and just shut off. i was able to start and coast over out of traffic.truck would start again but would not accelerate no more then 5-10mph and shut off.vehicle was towed to southgate ford i was put in a dangerous position on the road.this could have been fatal if i was on the freeway. on top of all of the same complains of the same thing the dealership says i have to pay for work & parts truck pass my warranty limit and would not honor my ford employee discount for parts or aarp discount to add insult to injury plus ican purchase online the parts from ford .southgate wants to charge me $476.54 for parts i can order from fords the parts myself for $262.09 online. what a shame checkin the oasis results for my vehicle i am appauled this is not on the recall list. how many people have to be killed first befoe this is addressed. *tr

I have been having this issue for many months where the car would not accelerate right when starting from a stopped position. it would shift very hard & jerk even harder from 1st/2nd & 2nd/3rd. i took it to the ford dealership & they explained it was the transmission so i paid for a transmission flush even though it only had 32k miles. they also at this time resent the computer to my driving habits? the problem continued. took it back to the shop last week twice & they believe that it was the throttle body but all computer checks showed the truck as fine. yesterday while driving 45mph, it all of sudden shifted hard like it went into neutral. i had my foot on the gas pedal & there was no response. i did not lose power steering & was able to coast over to the side of the road. i at this time noticed the wrench light was on in the lower left hand corner of the dash. the service manager at ford told me this would happen & that i needed to get the truck to them with the light on so that they could get the code they needed in order to file the claim with ford & replace the throttle body. i was too far from the dealership to jerk down the road over 5 miles in nothing more than a creeper pace especially during rush hour. when i applied my foot to the gas pedal it was non responsive. i was told by the service manager that if i turned off the truck & restarted it the wrench light would go away & that it does not send an error code to the computer for them to reference. i had to turn it off, but not before taking pictures for my records. i tried to restart the truck & it struggled but finally turned over of which then it drove fine. arrived at the dealership & they confirmed it was the throttle body but that the parts are on an indefinite back order. now we wait. a complete inconvenience & ridiculous that ford will not issue a recall especially when they know this is a problem. *tr

Was driving the car, and it lost power, and there was no throttle response. after shutting ignition off, drove the car a little farther, and the same thing occurred, and check engine light came on. garage diagnosed it as the throttle body control. *tr

The engine intermittently stalled/quit while driving at speed on numerous occasions. we took it to a ford dealership. diagnostics by their service department identified the problem as a defective throttle body. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated the electronic throttle was replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

I was driving on the highway, going about 70mph on cruise control. the cruise control suddenly disengaged and the car started slowing down, plus the wrench maintenance sign in the dashboard lit up. i hit the gas and nothing would happen, i basically put the gas pedal to the floor with no results. i pulled over to the side of the road, avoiding traffic, and parked the car. once the car was in park, the car started vibrating heavily. i shut the car down and waited about 5-10 minutes and then started the car again, it took about 3 tries to get the car to start again. i took the car to the mechanic, they could not get the car repeat the fails at that time, so they could not determine what happened. about a week later, i'm on the highway headed to work and it happens again, same situation, except this time all the lights in the dashboard lit up and i was not using cruise control. i took the car back to the mechanic and he worked on it for a few days, came back and said that the throttle body was malfunctioning and it needed to be replaced. before i did that, i called the ford dealership and explained the situation to the lead mechanic there and without even seeing the car, he agreed with my mechanic that it 100% sounded like a throttle body problem. so it has been replaced and i have had the car back with no problems since then. *tr

Leaving parking lot and the car began to lurch. then it began to idle with the lurch. pressed accelerator and no response other than the lurching idle. had the car towed to ford dealer. the service advisor later stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced and that the parts are back ordered. probably 12 days was his statement. recently found out that it may be 3 to 4 more weeks for the part. *tr

My 2011 ford escape has gone into limp mode while in motion three times this month, july 2013. my local ford dealership diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning throttle body. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated while driving at various low speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed and there was no response. the vehicle was turned off and restarted. the vehicle resumed normally; however, the failure recurred eight times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the throttle body and motor assembly were replaced. the part was on national back order. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 41,800.

While driving northbound on tidewater trail (rt 17) between gloucester county and tappahanock, va the car suddenly stopped with forward motion at the same rate of speed. i coasted over to the side and parked on the shoulder, or grass beside the road. there was no safe place to pull over. i let the car sit for a minute, then started it up again. it seemed to be ok for about 3 more miles at a reduced rate of speed with flashers on, then it did the same thing. i called for a tow truck and had the vehicle towed back to a garage up the street from where i live. they indicated it was a throttle body defect and that the part was backordered. i had ford roadside assistance tow the car to harris ford in newport news va and they confirmed yesterday that the throttle body part had failed on the vehicle and that it was backordered. i would be interested in bringing a class action suit against ford because this is definitely a safety issue and if they are aware of the problem they should at the least do a recall and have ample parts on hand to repair the vehicles in a timely manner, or prevent failure before a female driving alone is stranded on the side of the road driving what she assumes to be a safe vehicle that has been properly maintained. i am very upset about this!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph and approaching an entrance ramp, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the roadway. the engine was restarted with the warning indicator illuminated; however the vehicle failed to accelerate upon applying the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the failure was contributed to the throttle body. the vehicle was being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.

While driving on freeway with speed approx. 60mph, accelerator became inactive, no acceleration was possible, the car seemed that it had died. we maneuvered to the right lane and then pulled off onto the shoulder. the accelerator would not work again until we turned the car off and started it again. this happened once more a week later - when we took the car to ford service we were told that it was likely the throttle module but ford would not replace it even though our car is under warranty for a few more months. on 7/13/2013, we were on the freeway again at 60mph approx. and within a 5mile stretch of freeway, the same thing happened 5 times, each time we were in heavy freeway traffic. we were on our way out of town, but turned around and came back, taking a back road rather than the freeway. *tr

I was driving when it appeared to stall shut car off i drove to dealership. i was informed it was bad throttle assembly. it will cost $411to fix dealer offered to take 10% off.if my wife was driving she would have totally totally panicked and most likely caused an accident. ford needs to step to the plate and fix this. *tr

Was driving down the highway at 60 mph with the cruise control on. vehicle lost power like you had kicked the cruise off. pushed on the accelerator but nothing happened. shut vehicle off and restarted and it worked fine. went about a mile down the road and it did it again. had it towed to a ford dealership and they said it was the throttle body which they said would cost $300 plus the cost for towing. this was dangerous because i could have been hit from behind when it suddenly decelerated. *tr

Driving the car would result in the car to stall. this is an automatic vehicle. i would have to put into neutral to restart car. then the rpm would jump then stall again. i took in the vehicle to be repaired and found code that the throttle body was stuck closed so the car would be able to drive without the throttle body being replaced. after fixed the problem went away. the problem is $500 later after the repair and the car had not even broke the 50k yet. very bad problem and seems a if i am no the only one. after looking it up to see if i could get the parts myself i saw that this is happening to a lot of different ford vehicles at the same time in the same range of years. this is a huge problem and just glad the kids weren't in the cars as i was driving on the interstate. *tr

Whether i driving in downtown traffic or highway my ford escape would start hesitation. could not get a charge from to drive suv. or my escape would power and the engine would die while driving or when i was pulling out from intersection. i took ford escape to a ford dealership they did whatever test and told me they would have to order part. two weeks of waiting for part to arrive and still no part dealership told me part was on a state order because i was in florida when this happened and i was from illinois with my trip ending and needed to get home. i felt dealership was giving me run around so i called main headquarters in detroit, michigan and was told the throttle body was on back order because ford was having problems figuring out problem and therefore could not send part because they didn't have a corrected throttle body part to send. i asked if ford was doing a recall on escape and was told not at this time. i received a called from ford motor co. about 2 days later telling me the part would be sent to dealership by wednesday of following week and that a call was also placed to dealership to inform them the part was for my escape not the two ford escapes with same problem that were ahead of mine. by the following week on wednesday my ford escape was repaired and i was able to drive home back to illinois. to this day i am not sure if i have a replacement part that has fixed the problem or if ford motor co. sent me the same part that will again break down on me. i have kept track of all phone calls i made date time and who i spoke with and also the calls from ford motor co. to me. needless to say i am very disappointed with the whole matter and i am filing this complaint. *tr

I was traveling and suddenly lost power or throttle control. the car started stumbling and i had no power as i pushed on accelerator. the wrench symbol came on my control panel. *tr

At a stop light, accelerating through the intersection at approx. 30 mph, the car jerked and lost speed. put gas pedal down to floor. the car was never able to go over 10 mph. had vehicle towed to dealership where i was told today it was a defective throttle body and due to back order on the part it would take up to 2-3 weeks to receive a part. this exact same thing happened to my brother's 2009 ford escape. seems if this is recurrent issue it should be recalled seeing as the potential danger to the driver and other's on the road. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. the check engine warning light did not illuminate until after the failure occurred. the contact was able to restart vehicle however, the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who inspected the vehicle and determined that the failure was caused by the throttle body. the failure was not reported to the manufacturer. the failure and current mileage was 29,900.

I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden i could not gas my car. traffic was heavy and i nearly caused two accidents trying to maneuver to the emergency lane. i an not able to drive my car far from home nor on a highway as it chooses to repay this at random. *tr

I was making a left turn from a road with a 45 mph limit. i just initiated the turn when it felt like i lost all power & was barely coasting. i waited 'til the road was clear to turn, but now there were 2 cars bearing down on me sounding their horns & with squealing tires as they attempted to avoid hitting me. i barely made it out of the intersection. at what felt like one mph, i drove onto the shoulder, turned off the car & gathered my wits as i was terrified. turned the car back on & it was the same, but noticed a wrench on the display. turned my car off & called my mechanic for a tow. while waiting, tried turning the car on again & it worked. drove to the mechanic & he said it was a throttle body assembly problem, but no code had been set in the computer. he called schaumburg ford & they said unless a code was set, it was not covered by warranty. i would have to drive the car 'til it failed again & set the code--like driving a time bomb! the next day i went to hopkins ford where i bought the car 6/30/12 & they said the throttle body assembly failed the test, so it would be covered by warranty, but that it would be at least july before they could get the part because so many have failed & are on order. i would have to drive the car 'til then. later that day they contacted me & said ford advised this would not be covered by warranty & the service person estimated the repair at over $500. with this many failed throttle body assemblies, this sounds like a recall item. sure hope i don't get killed or kill somebody while i wait for the part. *tr

A few weeks ago, my escape would slow down and or stop intermittently for now reason. this happened the first time 2 times in one week and by two week from the first date of occurrence. it had started to happen more often and occurring the last time 3 times that day. i took it to my ford dealership (jack madden ford) in norwood, ma. i was outside of my warranty so i was told that i would have to pay originally but then i was called later that day and told that i had a faulty throttle drive and that it would be replaced for free. i was not told why it would be replaced for free but that it was under warranty. *tr

Vehicle continually has a decrease in power. after stepping on gas pedal starts to "chug" along slowly eventually speeds back up and engages to normal speed. *tr

Vehicle went into limp-home mode while under light acceleration. had to be towed to dealership. dealer diagnosed as throttle body failure. *tr

Driving the car we start to excel and the car shuts down due to the throttle body not functioning right. *tr

I am a single female and keep my vehicle maintenance up to date. i do not have anyone to call on to help in times of car trouble. the engine would lose power and start to 'coast' to a stop at varying speeds, including on an interstate. i had to pull the car over, turn it off, and restart. the restart was always troublesome. once the dealership looked at the car, i was told i would have to wait at least 2 weeks for a replacement part. i had to deal with this issue for 2 weeks, putting myself and any passenger in danger of being involved in and causing a major car accident. i called the dealer 2 weeks later; the dealer did not contact me. i picked up the part and had it installed. i also purchased a cabin air filter in order to have that replaced at the same time. to my surprise, the car did not even have a cabin air filter installed when i purchased the new vehicle. i have never had that filter replaced. i have severe allergies and currently take 2 shots. i was not happy to discover the air entering my car was helping to contribute to my problems with my allergies. i will not purchase another ford. their customer service does not promote repeat customers. ford does not stand behind their vehicles and are not concerned with the safety of their customers. *tr

I was traveling approximately 70 mph on the interstate. my car shifted quickly into a low gear and the wrench light came on the dashboard indicating a powertrain failure. i was able to maneuver off the freeway and shut the car down. it would start up again, and we limped into the ford dealership which was about 1/4 mile away. the dealership replaced the "throttle body" and indicated i was the "third one this week". *tr

The car came to a sudden stop without warning, it seems to have a faulty throttle body. *tr

Vehicle has stalled on me on 5 different times. always during a turn at slow speeds. i have had to put the vehicle in neutral and restart it. the last time it happened, was on june 5th. there was a car behind me and i was able to avoid it hitting me. i reported this to my ford dealership and they checked the vehicle out and could not find any problems. i also notice that at times when i am trying to accelerate that the car will kind of jerk or surge, almost like it's trying to get fuel to the engine. *tr

I was driving down the road and suddenly my vehicle lost all rpm's, i coasted on to the side of the road and turned my vehicle off. during this time a wrench light also came on my vehicle. a few minutes later i restarted it and it went aprox 1/2mile before doing it again. i again pulled over, restarted engine and was able to drive home with no further problems. this has happened multiple times since in the past 2 weeks. the ford service dept told me that this is not covered under warranty and they are unable to fix it without us paying in full for the repair. the wrench light does not stay on. we were told the actuator was stuck open. *tr

While driving car started to shimmy, then would no longer accelerate. turned off. restarted and was able to drive home. on the way to the repair shop on june 3, 2013, while driving the car started to shimmy then would no longer accelerate. turned off. restarted and was able to drive to the repair shop. *tr

I was driving up a hill when my engine shut off and car started lurching forward. the brakes slowed the car down but lurching continued. the car restarted okay but stalled several more times as i was driving it to the dealer. there were no warning lights on and i have always taken great care of the car. there were no odd noises or signs that something was wrong until the car stopped. i am thankful that i was on a neighborhood road and not a busy street or highway. dealer says the issue is the electronic throttle body which is on national backorder and may take 6-8 weeks to repair. if something is on national backorder, does that mean this is happening to others as well? please investigate. *tr

While driving on i40 my vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. i coasted to the shoulder and the vehicle began to surge forward and stop while i attempted to put it in park. this happened twice more on this trip, after restarting the engine to rest the issue so i could drive at all. i have taken it to ford three times for service for this. they rest code and tell me ford is aware of the defect in the throttle body but won't fix it for free. i am in fact typing this complaint in the service waiting area. i have experienced surges forward while sitting in traffic and had all power drop out at interstate speeds. it's insane ford hasn't recalled this part and repaired it. i hope me or my family don't have to be injured or killed for them to take care of this faulty part. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while he drove at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer. a diagnostic was performed which located the failure at the throttle body. the vehicle was not repaired and the dealer advised that the throttle body was on back order. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was failure 46,851.

Driving on interstate at 65mph and vehicle just no longer had any. accelerator response i pressed repeatedly as vehicles were behind and to the left of me. no response i had to immediately cut hard right off interstate to side of road, vehicle was running rough and engine repair indicator came on still no accelerator response i put vehicle in park turned off ignition and restarted. vehicle restarted will engine indicator still on but now had accelerator response. brought to dealer diagnosed as defective throttle body, is on national back order because of failures and was told it is highly unusual for that part to go, especially will so few miles. *tr

My 2011 ford escape would not accelerate, i drove it to the dealership oxmoor ford and was told my throttle body needed to be replaced and the part was on national back order. no eta as to when the part would arrive quoted $600. spending $53 per day for a rental car. i googled throttle body saw where all the other complaints were posted thought i would add mine. *tr

Driving down i-55 in st. louis, my car lost power. i pulled to the shoulder without incident. the engine was still running but the throttle was inoperative. turned the key off, waited a few seconds, and started the car. it ran fine, like rebooting a computer. this happened a couple of times before on side streets and it happened one more time before i got home on i-55. went to the dealer with check engine light on. $98 for diagnosis, throttle body problem. back order for over 30 days, so this must be a bigger problem. they cleaned the throttle body and fuel system, another $140, which they said would help until the part came in. car just out of warranty 2700 miles. kinda scary to lose power when your in traffic. *tr

On may 23rd we were traveling on an interstate at about 65mph and suddenly the car lost acceleration, we were able to pull over to side of road and luckily able to avoid other cars. we turned off engine and it started again but was very apprehensive. the car did ok until july 20th when we stopped at a light and when we started the acceleration was gone again, we were able to get to side of road but it took 3 tries to get it started again. we tried to get home before it happened again but about 2 miles from our home it died again. we were on a 2 lane road but was able to pull into someone's driveway and it took several times to get it started and we tried to get back on road but it died again. after a couple more tries it started and we were able to make it home. we had to call a tow truck to take it to the dealer because we were afraid it would happen again and could have had an accident. we have only had the car for 2 yrs and it only has around 38000 miles. *tr

I was idling at a stand-still on the highway (or very close to a stand-still - may have been rolling at approx. 5 miles per hour) as traffic came to a stop due to a lane merge ahead. when traffic started to slowly move forward again, i took my foot off the brake and stepped on the gas pedal to accelerate forward but the car did not move. i tried stepping on the gas pedal once more and again the car would not move forward. since the car was still in drive gear, i managed to get the car to roll into the shoulder of the road on its own to get out of the way of traffic. car started to buck and vibrate when i tried using the gas pedal again to accelerate forward in the shoulder and would still not move forward. i noticed then that the orange wrench icon was lit up on the dash. i then put the car in park and turned the engine off as i felt it was no longer safe to drive. had to call a tow truck to tow the vehicle to the dealership. dealership diagnosed the problem as an issue with the throttle body and said it was not covered under warranty as it was an electronic/external part. had bought the car brand new in dec 2010. i was disappointed that the car was less than 2 1/2 years old and had a major problem that could have led to a dangerous situation. i was moving slowly in a construction zone during holiday traffic when the incident occurred, and i was lucky that i was not in a busy intersection or traveling at a high rate of speed when i lost acceleration due to the throttle body problem. *tr

Vehicle was accelerated to cross an intersection and engine decelled to an idle condition - this happened at speed also - very dangerous loss of power without notice - almost caused an accident. was very intermittent to begin with - dealer attempted tshoot and repair but no codes found - next day after dealer attempt problem happened numerous times and the dealer determined a bad throttle body. *tr

My ford escape was stopping multiple times. it would stay running in very slow movement until i could pull over out of traffic and then it would shut down. then wrench light would be lit. i had this happen while driving side roads and the interstate. this was very unsafe. i first took it to a dealer near my home and they could not find anything wrong. when this happened one morning on the interstate, i called the dealer i bought the vehicle from and took it in. they called me later that day and stated that the issue was the throttle body control, they stated that since my vehicle was no longer under warranty that i would have to pay for the replacement and that they had to order the part. it seems that these were an issue and the could not receive from manufacture right away due to a release issue. they finally were able to obtain one and i had to pay $371.79 for this to be fixed. even though i was no longer under warranty i feel that i should not have had to pay this, from doing research it seems to be a manufactures issue. *tr

Vehicle would no longer accelerate and had to cruise into a parking lot. vehicle was then towed to dealer. was told it was a throttle assembly problem. the part is on national backorder and it has been three weeks with no fix. if the event had happened while pulling into traffic, instead of in the flow, it would have been much worse. looking online i see this is an extremely common problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle jerked and decelerated independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician advised that the throttle body would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000. *tr

First incident: was driving on express way feeder road attempting to accelerate to enter xway ramp when car suddenly began to quickly decelerate. applying gas yielded no result. pulled to side of road and essentially coasted into a parking lot. turned off engine. restarted car after a few minutes and problem was gone. second incident: one day later, was driving on a residential street when again the car suddenly began to rapidly decelerate. applying accelerated yielded no results. coasted to stop at side of road. turned off engine. was again able to restart car and problem was gone. *tr

Engine stalls upon acceleration, have to pull over and turn the engine off and then do a restart. it is now at the dealership with a defective throttle body waiting on the part. i now understand it is being re-designed with no eta on manufacture or delivery to my dealer. *tr

Vehicle lost power - was running but could not accelerate. turned car off and restarted and it was operating correctly. called dealership service to inquire if they know what might have happened. they advised they had never heard of that before. incident occurred 2 additional times over the next few months. last time vehicle was out of warranty. took to dealership and we were advised car out of warranty. we insisted there was a problem and it was dangerous to operate. they would not tow so we drove vehicle to dealership and they replaced throttle body assembly. we were only charged a $75 deductible. vehicle has not been operated enough to determine if problem is fixed. *tr

My escape suddenly lost power while i was driving. the engine was still running, but pressing the accelerator got no response. i coasted to the side of the road and shut the engine off. when i restarted, the engine ran normally again. this is the second time this has happened. because i was in traffic, the second incident was quite dangerous. the mechanic says the problem is with the throttle body and that i should not drive until he can get a replacement part. he says the problem is so widespread that the parts are hard to get. *tr

Driving at freeway speed when engine lost all power. unable to accelerate. engine light and wrench light came on. was able to pull to the side of the road. restarted vehicle and proceeded back on to freeway. incident repeated 5 times in 10 miles of driving. finally located a ford dealership. computer code indicated faulty throttle body. unable to repair same day because dealership did not have the part. called 7 different dealerships within a 200 mil radius and advised no one had the part in stock. appears this is a popular problem. finally found the part the following day and dealer installed. no problems since. was forced to drive the vehicle until the part arrived as i was out of town on business when this occurred. the loss of acceleration resulted in dangerous situations. i experienced this not only at highway speed but also when trying to enter the freeway. i was almost hit twice. *tr

This vehicle has lost power unexpectedly twice in the last month while either decelerating from freeway speeds (first time) and while cruising at 65 mph (second time). in both instances the wrench lite came on and the rpm level dropped to below 900 rpm and was erratic. luckily, i was able to put on my hazard flashers and pull to the side of the road in both cases. both times, i shut the car off and it restarted resuming normal performance. this unpredictable loss of power can become a serious hazard in a freeway full of drivers. i see a growing number of escape drivers experiencing the same thing, so it appears as though a trend is happening focusing on suspect throttle body units. i am sure ford will do something about this, but wonder how bad it needs to get before they do. *tr

Vehicle was being driven between 25 and 40 mph and complete loss of drive power/speed occurred (vehicle abruptly slows to ~4 mph). immediate response to get vehicle to side of road to avoid a collision. this has occurred 4 times in the past 3 weeks (two incidents on 5/19/13). vehicle will be taken to dealer for inspection/repair week of 5/19/13. engine stays running at idle, but very rough when in drive. if placed in neutral, engine runs, but will not rev up with gas pedal. no throttle response when issue occurs. after key off and 30 second wait and restart, vehicle performs as intended. no mil lights on dashboard. this is a serious issue. *tr
