We have classified the 252 complaints from 2011 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Traveling at 35 mph, heard a noise and lost all but limp home mode power. no shoulder on the road and created a dangerous lane blockage. had to be towed to dealer that does not have the needed part. told it is on national back order. we have extended warranty with rental coverage but since the part is not available they will not pay for rental waiting for the part. *tr
Wife pulled out of the driveway and vehicle lost all power and went into limp home mode. she stopped the vehicle, put it into park and turned the car off. first attempt to restart vehicle failed, second attempt, vehicle started and wrench symbol illuminated and stayed on approximately 20 miles until she arrived at work. she has also been experiencing intermittent surging forward while driving and transmission banging into reverse when backing out of the driveway. the rpms have been surging sporadically when cranking the car. took the car to ford dealer on friday, 17 may 2013, received a call from service rep. saying that the throttle body assembly had to be replaced, but however, part is on backorder and they are searching nationwide for the part to fix the problem. he also stated that he didn't feel comfortable returning the vehicle for my wife to drive until the part is found due to the possibility of her having a accident. however, until then, we are out a vehicle, because it is not safe to drive. fortunately, the vehicle is still under warranty. i would like to know what is the magic number for nthsb to force ford into issuing a recall for this problem, how many people have to be injured or die for this to happen ??????? *tr
I was moving into traffic and the car suddenly surged forward and then stalled down to a rough idle. the wench symbol was illuminated and the engine light came on with a code of p2111. throttle body actuator failure - stuck open. *tr
Vehicle lost acceleration but still had power, brakes, etc. after slowing down, pulled over and tried selecting different, gears, etc but vehicle would not move. wrench indicating engine problem was on. after turning vehicle off, restarted vehicle and the car was able to move. vehicle had same problem on way to dealer. computer trouble codes were not stored. this seems to be the same problem that a lot of people have had. vehicle is a 2011 ford escape fwd limited with 3.0 v6. *tr
I have a 2011 ford escape and was traveling down the road when the car quit moving forward on its engine power. i had to pull off the road and re-start my vehicle to make it run correctly. i took it to the local ford dealership and found out that the throttle body was defective. this seems to be an issue with some ford vehicles ( according to the service mgr it is more of an issue with the fusion but they are seeing it with the escape also). of course i'm out of warranty by 10,000 miles and the repair is 750.00. i feel like ford is side stepping this and i consider this a serious safety issue. if mine was not the norm i could understand but the fact that even the part is hard to get and ford is the only manufacturer of it is very frustrating. needless to say--i'm going back to gm. *tr
My daughter was driving the car in florida going approximately 45 mph. the red light with a wrench came on and the car would not accelerate. she finally got pulled over to the side of the highway and called the dealership in orlando. they told her it could be a throttle body problem or it could just be trying to reset. they suggested she turn everything off (which she already had) and restart in a few minutes. she restarted and everything seemed fine. about a week later, the same thing happened, only worse, and she took the car in to the dealership. it seemed to happen as she was turning a corner. she had to restart the car 3 or 4 times on the way to the dealership. they ran a diagnostic test and said the throttle body needed to be replaced. so far, it's been a week and it is still not fixed because they cannot find the part. she has had to rent a car until the escape is fixed. another expense! evidently, 45,000 of these throttle bodies have been replaced and they are using the parts up as fast as they can make them. how safe can this be???!!! we plan to have it repaired, but we should not have to pay for this ford problem. *tr
The first of 4 incidents occurred while driving on the belt parkway in brooklyn ny. i was driving at a speed of 65 mph in the left lane on a stretch of highway with no shoulder on the left side of the road when i lost all pedal power. i wasn't able to accelerate. the engine was running and all the electronics were working properly except for not being able to accelerate. the small icon of a wrench appeared on the dash. i managed to cross three lanes of heavy traffic to the right shoulder. i put the vehicle in park and stepped on the accelerator to rev the engine, nothing happened. it seemed like there was no gas getting to the engine. i then shut down the engine and checked the owners manual for the icon of the wrench. the description of the wrench icon states that a throttle control/powertrain fault has been detected and i should contact an authorized dealer as soon as possible. upon contacting the dealer he indicated that they have been having a problem with the throttle body on my make and model and also stated that my warranty had expired and there was no recall issued for this problem. the cost was my responsibility. i proceeded to have them order me a new throttle body. the lead time would be 2-3 weeks for the new part. during that time the same problem has happened 3 more times, 2 of which were at a speed of 65 mph and 1 time starting off from a red light at a speed of less that 10 mph. after researching this problem on line i have found this to be a major issue and a recall for the throttle body should be issued and repairs made by ford at no cost to the owners. i feel that i was put in a very dangerous life threatening position. *tr
My escape had been running rough today and decided maybe i needed to take it on the interstate. while doing about 65 the "open wrench" light came on and i lost complete power. i could not accelerate or anything else for that matter. i coasted to the emergency lane. i put the car in park and restarted the escape and was able to make it home. i had read about numerous other related issues on this problem with the ford escape. i am glad i was in the right hand land and not the left lane; it could have been very dangerous. *tr
I was driving on the highway going about 55 mph. the vehicle began to lunge forward and then stopped running. i was able to get off of the highway, but it was dark. i let the car sit for a moment. it then started up and i went back on the road. it then began to lunge and stopped again. the wrench light showed on the instrument panel both times. by the manual, it showed a throttle body issue. the car was towed to the ford dealership. they said that the throttle body was faulty, but that due to the mileage, it was not under warranty. i paid $426.00 to get it fixed. when i picked the vehicle up i asked them if this was a recall as i saw complaints on the internet. the technician said not yet, but to keep my paperwork as it probably would be a recall at some point. *tr
In rush hour traffic, the wrench light comes on driving 60 mph car slowed down, would not accelerated, jerked,, was able to exit, turned off restarted , made it work ok, drove home about 22 miles, no problem. went for dinner stopped at red light, would not go wrench light came on again, turn off restart, taken to dealer on saturday morning was told not part of powertrain. cost $531 for repair, very dangerous and unsafe to drive on a major road in dallas.. *tr
Vehicle purchased january 2013 with ~37k miles. first month of ownership, i had code indicating a fuel delivery problem but it cleared on its own. i attributed it to bad gas, though it may have been the warning sign i missed. today on the highway at approximately 60mph, it felt like the vehicle shifted out of sequence, noticing the lack of power/low rpms i tried to give it gas to no avail. i safely navigated to the shoulder as it coasted down to a stop. the orange wrench lit up. upon stopping the car sputtered hard and threatened to stall. the gas pedal was useless. i shut the car off, shut off the radio/ac and gave it a moment. it restarted with minor hesitation. the orange wrench had cleared but the check engine light came in (it stayed in through the remainder of this post). it idled ok, allowed me to administer fuel and rev the engine. thinking the problem had passed, i merged back onto the highway and came up to speed. about a half a mile later i felt the noted loss of engine power (i believe this is the "limp-home" method that is cited in some things i have read today). again, my gas pedal is useless and i re-engage the hazards and move off of the road. this time the car does not stall but idles around 900rpm with some sputtering. gas pedal is still useless. i rinse and repeat the above process a third time, when it does the same thing another half mile later, i give up and call a more car savoy friend. his first guess is also fuel pump/something clogged but we are both baffled because the symptoms are not consistent with any condition we have ever encountered. deciding it could be nursed home, the fourth attempt at starting it, i made the last 2 miles staying 40mph or below. there was no sputtering/loss of fuel delivery capabilities during this attempt. after some research, it sounds like the common throttle body issues found me... *tr
While driving down a road going approx. 50mph, i suddenly, and without warning, lost power to the vehicle. pulled over to the side of the road and while applying the brakes, it would tend to lunge forward. once stopped, i placed in park, shut off engine the attempted to start up again. it did start up, however, it happened 2 more times later that day. i would hate for this to happen while trying to make a left hand turn with oncoming traffic....could be deadly!!! ford needs to step up to the plate and make this right as i have now read far too many complaints about this exact same thing. the next occurrence could be injury or even death. i should note that as of 1 week later, i have not had the problem fixed yet and the incident described above has happened at least 2 times per day now. *tr
I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my car started slowing down and my gas pedal would not accelerate my car. when i pulled over, my car was jumping on the side of the road. once i took it to 2 different dealerships, got stranded on the side of the road 4 times, paid $80 for them to run some tests and tell me there was nothing wrong with my car at the first dealership, the second dealership then speculated that it was my throttle body. when i asked them to fix it, i was told the part was on national backorder and there was no telling how long it would be before they got the part in. so they sent me away in my broken car and told me the problem would probably start occurring more frequently until it was fixed. if that is not a clue to the ford company that they need to do a recall, then i do not know what is. everyone is obviously experiencing these problems and it happened to me 1,000 miles outside of my warranty. i am irate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr ## vin failed ##
At approx. 19,800 miles was driving along the interstate and the escape started losing power. i went from running 75 mph to 40 mph. the escape now has approx. 33,000 miles and is a total nightmare. as of april 28, 2013 it has been in the shop for a total of 46 days and has had 8 repair attempts. no warning lights nor the check engine light has ever come on. this escape clunks, surges, loses power, cut's off and at times will not even crank. the transmissions has been reprogrammed, the throttle body and motor asy - throttle body air intake has been replaced, the vapor management valve has been replaced, the torque convertor has been replaced. lost in arbitration with the bbb because ford said in their last repair attempt that the vehicle has operating as normal. june 5, 2013 car was back in shop because at 7:45 am stopped at a red light, while my foot was on the brake the rpm's surged up to 4000, could hardly keep it from running the light, once the light changed took off and within 4 tenths of a mile lost power and shut off. it took me 8 minutes to get it to crank, drove about 15 miles, surging all the way, and the car died again, taking me 10 minutes to get it to crank. took the car back to the shop, they kept it for 7 days, returned it and said they could not duplicate problem. june 20, 2013 tried to crank the car at 10:00 am, it would crank, but go dead, finally at 11:10 am it stayed cranked, drove at 3 tenths of a mile, car goes dead. takes me 5 minutes to re-crank went straight to the shop. this car is dangerous and ford needs to re-call.
My 2011 ford escape has now had service three times in two years for "bucking/slipping" in the transmission. the "bucking/slipping" is experienced with all gears but generally worse between 2nd and 3rd and just starting out. it is also bad when the car has been idle for many days. all three times its been in for service at the ford dealer they say its the adaptive transmission that is the culprit. they redo the algorithms its fine for a week then goes back to normal. the latest service also included having the transmission axle seals replaced. *tr
When slowing down at about 20-25 mph, car jerks like transmission is trying to slip from 2nd to 1st gear. has been like this for over two years. most readings on 'net suggests software issues but not many owners have found satisfaction with the updates and appear to have to pay for them..
Repeated incidents of two symptoms: 1) power surges when i'm hitting the gas to pull out or pass someone and car feels momentarily like it will jump forward. 2) power feels like it will stall and the car sort of just powers down. until today that would just pass and the car would operate normally. today (aug. 11) i had to pull over as it would not go above 20 mph suddenly. it resumed normally after i turned the engine off and restarted in a few minutes. *tr
We were just pulling out onto the highway when the car lost all power. it jerked forward and then stopped. we were stopped on the highway and could not get the car to forward. i turned the car off waited a few minutes and then tried again. the car again jerked forward went a short distance and then shut down again, on the highway. luckily we were only a mile or so from the dealership where we bought the car. we turned the car off and started it 5 times and were able to get the mile to the dealership. when this first happened, a wrench appeared on the dash, signaling a powertrain issue and to get to the dealership as soon as possible. after the car was looked at by the mechanic at the dealership it was determined that it was a defective throttle body and would cost $400 to repair. according to the dealership, this is a major issue for ford, and i don't understand why something so serious that it can cause a serious accident or death is not being recalled. i guess ford doesn't want the cost to repair their defective parts and obviously does not care about the safety of its customers or the lawsuit that will follow. for this reason, i have notified all of my family and friends not to buy another ford. i would hope that the nhtsa would be concerned about the safety of our citizens and make a recall mandatory, not give in to the mighty ford company and their lack of concern. *tr
Vehicle was running rough at idle and check engine light was on. at stop lights, stop signs, or any idle time car would buck forward like it was going to stall. *tr
The suv starts slowing down, losing power and the wrench light comes on. i pulled over ,cut suv off wait about 15min and start suv back up l wrench light is not on. no incident again until may 30,2013 and june 1, 2013 . took vehicle to darcars on june 3,2013 , dealer not able to duplicate incident. *tr
Three times while traveling at 60+ mph on the interstate the vehicle lost all throttle response and a yellow wrench illuminated on the instrument panel. trying to navigate from the left lane across 3 lanes of highspeed rush hour traffic was very dangerous. i took the vehicle to the local dealer as soon as possible and was told it was a bad throttle body. this incident could have resulted in serious injury. *tr
I was making a right turn as i straighten out my car from the turn my car lost power. i had my foot on the gas but wasn't going forward and the vehicle was shaking really bad. the ironic thing is i felt a tug here and there before but i thought i was being paranoid. i don't think i was!!! thank goodness i had turned out of traffic. i didn't want to turn it on again i remembered i had a tow card from when i bought my vehicle. if this is some defect i need to know. i had my last vehicle for 11 years and never did something like this happen. i bought a new car so that i don't get stranded and i did get stranded. i had it towed to maxwell ford after they tested it today i was told it was the throttle body. *tr
Turned onto my street on my way home from work and all of a sudden couldn't give the car any gas. notice wrench light came on. coasted into driveway turned car off-waited a few and turned back on. no light and car seemed fine. next day took car out and just after getting on highway car did the same thing this time the check engine light came on as well. turned off and on and wrench light went off but engine light stayed on. drove directly to dealership. was told it was the throttle body got stuck and was being replaced. very dangerous when driving on busy roads! *tr
There have been several different occasions where my car will not accelerate during cold weather months. january 4, 2013 was when i nearly got into an accident because of it. one morning when i was on my way to work, i pulled out onto a main road and my car's acceleration drastically slowed down (to about 5-10 mph on a 40mph road). the vehicle behind me almost slammed right into me because my brake lights were not on (and why would they be? i had my foot on the gas petal trying to make it go!) the fact that ford doesn't acknowledge this problem is scary! i am honestly concerned that one day this will cause me to get into a serious accident. *tr
Car would violently buck while loosing power. wrench light came on then disappeared. seams to be a random ghost that visits every 2 weeks. had map sensor replaced under warranty then 2 wks later happened again. this time paid for throttle body. 2 wks went by and it happened again. this time didn't. go to dealer. not sure but i think it might be throttle body again if it is infact the problem. car sucks. same problem over and over. *tr
When the weather started getting colder, the transmission started out hard to shift. i travel for work and when i am in heavy traffic it is dangerous, because it takes a while for the car to shift out. when it does finally shift, it is a hard shift and hard to control. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 60 mph, the power train warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was moved to the shoulder but the contact was able to be restart and drive the vehicle. the vehicle was driven to the dealer however, the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 20,690. updated 01/05/13*lj updated 02/11/2013*js
While pulling onto highway onramp the vehicle began to jerk violently and suddenly shut down and would not accelerate. it was a busy traffic time and the sudden deceleration of my vehicle caused others to have to suddenly brake to avoid a collision. pulled vehicle to side of the road and shut it off. restarted and the problem seemed to be fixed. began driving vehicle to dealer with hazard lights and problem occurred about 4 more times. dealer replaced throttle body assembly, which fixed the problem. it was a scary incident as we were just seconds away from joining heavy traffic on the interstate. *tr
While cruising at constant speed on the interstate, the "wrench" light came on and car started to slow down. first reaction was to press accelerator pedal but it was unresponsive only by luck we were on the right side of the road and were able to coast to a safe stop. after stopping, the car was placed in park and the engine remained on but idled very rough. the ignition was turned off and back on and the wrench light cleared and the accelerator pedal appeared to work again so we tried to drive on. a short distance later the wrench light came on again and the same thing with the gas pedal. at that point we called a tow truck and transported the car to a local ford repair shop. the ford shop claimed there were no codes stored and everything checked out ok and said maybe we ran through some water and sent us on our way. two days later it happened again under identical conditions. we were able to get it to a different ford shop and they replaced the throttle body. they also stated there were no codes but apparently our word was good enough this time. the mechanic supervisor commented they have seen this issue frequently. i also was discussing this with a coworker and found out they had the same thing happen on their 2011 escape. there is obviously a defect in the manufacture or design of this part or programming. if ford doesn't address this soon, there will be serious accidents if there hasn't been already. *tr
As i was pulling away from the intersection, i lost all throttle. i had no power at all, it wanted to stall and i had nowhere to pull over from the inside lane. the driver behind me almost rear ended me. i had to stop in the middle of traffic with my hazard lights on. this is a serious safety issue, this should not happen on a new vehicle that has only 36,000 miles. *tr
2011 ford escape was being driven @ 55 mph in traffic & it suddenly lost power. orange wrench appeared, motor running rough. steered to emergency lane. turned off ignition, waited, re-started. i went on to my meeting the to the ford dealership near where i work. they said to drive it there (if possible) next time without cutting off the engine. two days later (local dealership closed) while driving 55 mph, rainy night, county road, no "emergency lane", was able to get pulled over (not always an option on a country road). daughter was with me - frightened her. turned it off, restarted. next day (saturday) i took it to local ford dealer. said need the light on, but would see if the diagnostics told anything. borrowed car from my daughter. this was inconvenience to me and her. dealer called monday, said it clears the code each time the car is re-started. they kept my vehicle overnight. did it again with the mechanic driving. he drove it at about 10-15 mph to the dealership. i got online and there are many issues involving throttles. many recalls, but not on my model. on tuesday afternoon diagnostics showed it was the throttle. this is a safety related defect & it should be immediately recalled. i drive about 60 miles a day on the interstate & i need my vehicle to be dependable. if a semi truck came up behind me it could have caused a wreck, or even loss of life. i love my escape & have been a loyal ford customer. sometimes you just have to admit there's a problem & make things right. ford should resolve this once and for all. i picked it up last night & am driving it today. i will be in fear of it happening every time i drive this vehicle. my vehicle has low mileage, is maintained regularly. this should not have happened, nor should i have to pay repairs. i would like a refund on the repair costs. *tr
I was making a left off of a bridge and it just stopped going forward and the throttle wouldn't go. i could push gas pedal all the way down and nothing changed i shut it off and it was fine for a couple days then same thing. sometimes it goes a week or more with out any problem. *js
While driving we were alerted to a problem by a passing car. after stopping the motorhome i walked back to the escape and saw smoke coming from under the car. after allowing the car to cool we proceeded on to our destination and contacted the local ford dealer. we were provided with an appointment for the next morning. at that appointment we were told that the transmission was totally destroyed. while no fire was present the potential for a catastrophic fire involving both the car and the motorhome along side a busy freeway was a possibility. *tr
I was driving on i-75 south, atlanta area, 55 mph, when my ford escape 2011 lost all power and i coasted to side of road during rush hour --- very scary, and very dangerous. took vehicle to ford service and was charged $474.15 to replace defective throttle body (not covered under transmission, engine, powertrain warranty). read on-line that there are many other ford owners experiencing this same dangerous problem. sure hope you will warn other ford owners and organize a recall. please let me know if there is anyone else i can contact to move a recall forward. *tr
Intermittently lose throttle response, engine returns to idle, gas pedal does not respond. this has happened on highway and local roads and creates dangerous situation. dealer has been able to duplicate problem but not able to repair. *tr
While driving the wrench light came on and the car just died, had to pull over, the 2nd time i was going on a busy interstate and going about 70 mph i was lucky there was a place to pull off the road, but then the check engine light came on, and stayed on for the entire trip. when i arrived home and shut the car off and started it again the light was off. i looked into this since i have elderly people i take to and from dr. visits and this seems to be an ongoing problem since 2005 , i have read the complaints on line, my question is does someone have to be in a bad accident or even die before ford will resolve this problem? *tr
Driving approximately 40-45 mph when engine jerked and shut down. lost speed and noticed the now no speed / idling engine running very rough. the wrench symbol appeared on instrument cluster indicating throttle/powertrain issue. restarted car and drove approximately 2 blocks when the engine shut down again, this time the check engine light appeared as well as the wrench symbol. luckily we were able to limp home several blocks. immediately began a search the internet for similar issues and discovered that many people had experienced the same issue with their escape models. took it to the mechanic who did a computer check and indicated p-2011 and p-2012 codes. also noted in my search where many folks think a recall is in order........i completely agree. the part is faulty and will cause an accident in the future if it is ignored. was able to get the vehicle to the dealership for repairs. the mechanic at the dealership told me they had at least two occurrences a week with the escapes, fusion, and similar cars that used the throttle part. the internet search revealed the magnitude of the problem indicating a major problem with the throttle part. recall? you bet before someone get hurt.. *tr
I was driving on the interstate at 70mph when my car seemed to just completely lose power. i had to coast to the side of the road, put the car in park, turn it off and restart it. the incident happened exactly the same a couple other times. also happen once when in the middle of the city. i was at a busy intersection and the car lost power in the middle of the intersection. i was not able to go anywhere until i turned off the car and restarted it. i was nearly t-boned at 5 months pregnant. dealer was having a hard time figuring out what was wrong but finally figured out that it was something wrong with the drive train which caused the engine to stall. *tr
8/18/12 while driving on the interstate at 60 mph my truck suddenly lost power. the wrench light on the dash came on and the truck began to slow down in the mist of traffic. i was in the middle lane and needed to pull over to the emergency lane. after much effort i was able to do so. it was a very scary situation. i waited a few minutes before restarting the engine. it started up okay and i pulled out and stayed in the right lane. a fourth of a mile later it did it again. this time the engine light came on. cars were blowing there horns and i almost got hit a couple of times. my daughter was in the car with me it scared her so bad she began to cry. we were a good distance from home. i did not know what to do or what was going on with the truck. i'd only had it four months. if there were other complaints about this happening, why hasn't something been done? a recall maybe? does someone have to die ?????? *tr *js
While driving on highway at 60 mph 8/16/2013, my engine shut off. i pulled to side of road. the "wrench" light on dash was on. i called ford bloomington, they gave me roadside assist # and had me call them to send a tow truck to bring me and my vehicle to ford for check up. it was ready later that day, was told that they reprogrammed pcm and updated calibration, they changed air filter and told me i was "good to go" i paid $35.00 for that. the very next friday, i was driving home (at 60 mph) and the engine died again and i pulled to side of road. luckily the engine did restart and i was able to make it home. saturday, i took my suv to ford bloomington, engine sputtered on the way there. ford called rental car for me( without me asking) and again looked at the engine, was told on monday that the throttle body was bad, needed replaced. they had the part, but it was their last one and that the part was on backorder until october. i had part replaced as it was not covered under warranty, for $500.00. also i have a $110.00 bill from enterprise rentals. *jb
While traveling 80mph on the interstate, my 2011 ford escape with 27000 miles suddenly lost power as a wrench indicator light came on the dashboard. the gas pedal would not accelerate to pull onto shoulder or to move around traffic. all fuel acceleration was lost. as i finally coasted to the shoulder, narrowly avoiding being the cause of multiple accidents, the vehicle starting shaking. i turned the car off, waited a few minutes, and turned the car back on. the wrench indicator light (powertrain indication) remained off and the vehicle acted normal. there was not an indication before or after the incident of any faulty systems or parts. the vehicle did this without any reason, leaving me in a dangerous situation. the vehicle has been properly maintained and running without any problems since i purchased the vehicle until this incident. i fear it may happen again without reason and place my life and those of my passengers in harms' way. *tr
Small surges just after stops. total loss of power at highway speeds. july 2012 showed the check engine light, and had to coast to side of the road, gas pedal totally dead, engine and car still running. turn off and restart and all check engine lights go away and car acts normally. dealership found no codes. june 2013 again total loss of power at highway speeds, this time powertrain light comes on, and the car has to coast to the side of the road, gas pedal totally dead, engine and car still running. turn off and restart and all powertrain lights go away and car acts normally. this loss of power has happened 15-20 times to date from july 2012 to july 2013. *tr
-harsh jerking while foot on brake and shifting from any gear to drive, it's an automatic transmission -at the speed of approximately 30 mph, braking for the stop sign, it jerked forward first before speed was reduced fortunately, it was still under w
While depressing brake to stop at red light or stop sign, engine surges with forced acceleration. must hit the brake hard to hold the vehicle from going on its own. surge lasts a long time and i must put the car in park and turn off the engine. last time car was still surging when i restarted the vehicle, had to turn off car again. this has happened 4 times and my vehicle is still under warranty. the dealership claims they cannot fix the vehicle unless they can see this happen. *tr
While i was driving 55 mph on the interstate in the middle lane when suddenly, with no warning, we were no longer able to get enough throttle to continue moving forward. we had to coast to the side of the road. we were almost rear-ended, i really thought we were going to be killed. it is a very scary situation, going from 55 mph to nothing. the throttle body failed completely and had to be replaced. after doing research on this i have found that many other people have had this same experience, including my sisters 2010 ford escape with only 45000 miles on it. i had just had my 30,000 mile service done on my vehicle two weeks prior and asked them to please check the throttle body since it had happened to my sister, and it was fine at that time. i believe something needs to be done before someone is killed. when i asked what was to keep this from happening again i was told, "nothing, it could happen again at any time". when i asked if there was a recall on it, i was told,"i have been waiting on a recall on this for two years." i was told this from a ford service person at the ford place that repaired my vehicle in indiana. i have reported this to ford at the 800-392-ford number that the same ford service worker gave me when i asked if there was some place i could call about this situation to help get a recall. i no longer feel safe in my vehicle. *js
Last year i purchased a 2011 ford escape and have been completely dissatisfied with my purchase. the selling dealer, tower ford in great neck, new york has done absolutely nothing to help me rectify my serious complaint and concerns with my vehicle. one of my biggest concerns is that the transmission slips, the accelerator pedal sticks, the brakes are very low, and a swishing liquid noise is heard in the fuel tank when stopping, the right side rear passenger door squeaks, and the center console is loose. i've brought my truck back to this dealer many times and all i receive is that they can not verify my complaint and concerns. i am concerned for my family and my safety. any help would be appreciated. *js
I bought this car in 2012 and have since noticed the vehicle losing the ability to accelerate. no matter how far i push down on the gas it will not accelerate. after a minute or two of stalling, it will sputter and shut off. i took it to the auto shop to make sure that it was not misfiring a piston, or that their was anything immediately wrong, but they could not give me an answer to why it would not accelerate. my transmission also stalls in gears and will not shift when driving down the road. same deal took it in and received no answer. the back hatch glass also leaks terribly when it rains and i cannot get it to seal at all.
Vehicle has stalled multiple times at highway speeds which ford apparently calls "limp mode". all power to the motor was gone. as this only has happened at highway speeds, i feared for my life that i would get rear ended. apparently ford knows of a problem with the throttle body but since the car never keeps the code in the computer, ford will not do any repairs to it. this is a serious issue and am worried someone will be killed by this problem and the unwillingness of ford to repair it. once i coast to the side of the road and turn off the motor.... wait a minute... and restart the problem goes away. this has happened three times to me already. *tr
While towing my 2011 ford escape limited behind my rv bus, the transmission burned up. i did everything that was taught to me by ford dealership in gurnee, il, camping world in fox lake, il and the ford manual. the madison, tennessee ford dealership tried to blame roadmaster for the problem. roadmaster is the maker of the towing system (bars, electrical wiring for lights and the even brake system). that made no sense at all. i challenged them on that and then they asked me to go over what i do to tow the vehicle and after i explained all the steps, they said that i did everything correctly. i drove no faster than 60 mph in my whole trip (chicago to nashville) and even stopped every 3-4 hours to start the vehicle and go through the gears, as taught. this vehicle has 7600 miles on it and just 1200 miles towing on it. seems to me that this dealership and ford does not want to admit that its own transmission did not want to lube itself to keep it from burning up. ford has not answered any of my 2 emails sent to them about this and the dealership just keeps brushing me off. they also told me they needed permission from me to take apart the transmission to see what they need to replace. why, i do not know that they needed permission. i had it towed there to get repaired. it is clearly some defect within the transmission, they just do not want to own up to it. the consumer sent in an update via portable: just wanted to give you an update on this. ford called me yesterday afternoon and said that they will pay for everything now. i told them i was doing these complaints and finally someone called me. so, unknown if you still want to post it or not. i wanted to let you know of this. it may take a week or so before i can get my car, the dealership is claiming it may take that long to get the parts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while reversing at a low speed in the driveway, the brake pedal was depressed and a loud grinding noise was heard. the vehicle then lunged forward when shifting from first to second gear, causing a clanking noise. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the tsb chip was replaced, and the pcm was reprogrammed. the contact was also informed that this was a common failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, as the contact also filed a complaint with them. the approximate failure mileage was 3,750.
