While driving at highway speeds the engine revs up and losses power to the transmission as if it was out of gear. it also has happened and standing, i need to shut off the motor and reset it as to speak. the ford dealer has said that it is a throttle body issue, but i am scared to drive it down the highway for fear that i may be rear ended. i have found that there is a current investigation under way for throttle body failures and there is a current national back order on them. *tr
While driving on a normal road, the vehicle's wrench light (on the dash) illuminated and the vehicle became unresponsive. that is, pressing the accelerator yielded no results. this was followed by a shuddering stall-out (engine shut down) when the brakes were applied. the first attempt to restart the engine resulted in a clicking noise. the engine started without fault on the second attempt. the vehicle was driven without incident for the remainder of the day and the following two days. on the 4th day, the incident repeated. normal vehicle operational conditions are short (10 to 15 minutes) one-way trips. ford technicians found the throttle body was sticking in closed position. a new throttle body was installed. *tr
The problem was randomly demonstrated several times between 8/31/12 and 9/4/12. the accelerator would seem to stop working or become unresponsive, most often at speeds of 20-30 mph. there would be sputtering, stalling, and then total stoppage.. the motor was running but there seemed to be no fuel flow. i would turn it off, wait several seconds, restart it, and everything would work smoothly until, with no warning, the pattern would repeat itself. it occurred five times /3 miles, two times/1 mile, and two times/0.5 mile. early on 9/4, the pattern repeated three times on the way to the repair shop. these incidents produced anxiety for me and i was going slow. we did not drive the vehicle over the holiday weekend as we were concerned that this would happen on interstate highways when we would be traveling at high speeds.the error trouble codes were po685, p2111, p2112. he said the car was not safe to drive until it was repaired. since the mechanic reported "throttle body" being the problem i researched the throttle body as it relates to the ford escape. it causes me great concern that this has been demonstrated to be a dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem on the escape since 2000 and i bought 3 new escapes within that time period; a 2002, a 2007, and the 2010 escape, and there has been no effective, corrective action taken to resolve this. the dealership has said there will be no reimbursement of the $475.00 and this part is not under any warranty. although the money is an issue, the greater issue is the need to prevent future deaths. i have the old part that was replaced and i am willing to do whatever i can to force this problem to be resolved.in the interest of public safety i urge you to issue an immediate recall until this problem is resolved. thank you for your interest. *tr
While driving 65 mph on a very busy freeway and without any warning the vehicle jerked and immediately lost power. the engine did not shut off but there was no response from the accelerator. fortunately we were able to coast to the shoulder where the vehicle would not go more than 5 mph. the wrench warning light (for power train issues) came on. we turned off the car and waited 10 minute and restarted the car. the wrench light did not come on and we were able to drive if off the highway to the dealer. the dealer advised the throttle body had failed and since the car was 4,500 over the 36,000 mile warranty limit it was not covered. the dealer replaced the throttle body. if the driver were less experienced and had a failure on a busy freeway at night there could have been a terrible accident. this is a serious safety defect that should be recalled. ford has issued a technical service bulletin on the problem. *tr
The vehicle's accelerator (gas) pedal randomly stops working resulting in immediate loss of speed and power to the engine. accelerator is unresponsive and vehicle will sputter/crawl to 5 mph until ignition is turned off and car restarted. after restart, vehicle runs normal until problem occurs again (sometimes within minutes). problem occurs randomly as little as 1 time per trip to as many as 8 times in a 25 minute commute. problem occurred 12 times the other day with many of them on a multilane interstate while traveling 65 mph in the far left lane with nowhere to quickly pull-off the road. very dangerous when it occurs on the interstate and you quickly have to maneuver to change lanes and pull off the road or risk coming to a stop in the middle of a busy highway. this problem also causes the vehicle to sometimes run rough and negatively impact the emissions. the error code from the vehicle's computer is p2112 which is related to the throttle body. i have researched this problem on the internet and discovered it's an extremely common and very serious problem with this vehicle. a recall needs to be issued before someone gets killed. *tr
Multiple noises started to occur. the first was a cracking noise when accelerating, second came a clicking noise while braking and then a howling sound. the crackling noise has yet to be discovered, the clicking was the drive shaft and rotors. the howling noise is supposedly the transfer case. additionally, the gears do not seem to catch between 50-65mph. *tr
Spouse drove away from house and vehicle stalled on the city street about 400 feet from home. this was on a saturday, i attempted to drive the vehicle, continued to stall. i was able to get it into my garage and the vehicle was brought to the dealership on a flat bed truck to replace the throttle body and motor assembly at my expense. (no charge for towing). *tr
The first incident, the engine stalled as i slowed down to make a turn. the second incident, while driving the engine nearly killed and was in a low speed like it was in neutral, just stayed in one spot like it was stalled. had vehicle towed to dealership where they replaced the throttle body. *tr
On june 15, 2012, the 2010 ford escape with 29321 miles lost power (i.e. no gas, but electronics remained on) while merging onto a crowded highway at 50 mph. an accident was barely avoided. error lights were lit on the dashboard and the car would not restart. however, upon removing the keys from the ignition and reinserting them, the error lights turned off and the car restarted without any apparent problems. the car was immediately driven to the university ford dealership in chapel hill, nc. the service department could not detect a problem, stated that the computer was not registering any errors, and returned the car without fixing anything. on june 27, 2012, the car (29988 miles) again lost power in the middle of an intersection while making a left turn. the car had been stopped at a traffic light and was accelerating from a stopped position. again, an accident was barely avoided. this time, the car's computer did register an error. the service department at university ford identified a faulty throttle body sensor (part no. 9l8z9e926a) and replaced it with part no. ds7z9e926a. the service department ensured the problem would not repeat itself. on november 24, 2012, the car (roughly 34000 miles) lost power for a third time while stopped at a traffic light. removing the keys from the ignition and replacing them allowed the car to be restarted, and the car was promptly taken to university ford. the service department stated that no error was registered on the computer and that the car would have to be returned. the warranty policy states that no parts can be replaced if a problem is not detected. *tr
Driving 60mph on highway when ford escape bucked, slowed, did not accelerate when gas was applied. pulled to side of road where engine sputtered and died. restarted truck, drove another 10 miles when same occurred. this has occurred numerous times over the past two years. i assumed i had bought gas with water in it "bad gas". several times i have used a product to remove water from the gas, this only works sometimes. i have an appointment with ford on july 5th, i believe its another problem with the ecoboost engine in my suv. ford should recall this engine before a fatality occurs, i have visions of someone plowing into the back of my vehicle while my engine stalls unexpectedly. *tr
Driving at 35mph, check engine light came on and suv went into "limp home mode", slowing to only 10mph. after re-starting suv 2-times same error appear. took suv to local ford dealer tom holzer, and they said it was a failing throttle body sensor. inquired if there was a known warranty issue and dealer confirmed no, but a service bulletin existed at customer's expense - which was not agreeable. tom holzer service manager advise to contact ford directly (which we did) and ford said to contact service manager (which we did). after numerous phone calls and formal complaints we received no satisfactory resolution. ford was blaming the local dealer, the local dealer blaming ford, and we still had to pay $525 to replace defective throttle body sensor. (ironically our good friends have a 2010 chevy equinox with 80,000 miles that had the same problem and their local chevy dealer replaced their throttle body sensor and provided loaner vehicle during service procedure, both at no charge). needless to say, we were very disappointed with the local dealer and ford's handling of this known problem, and this will be our last ford vehicle purchase after 30-years of dedicated ford vehicle purchases. *tr
Went to accelerate and vehicle stalled. replaced at 50,000 miles. on the new replacement, at 70,000, replaced at my cost at dealership, throttle body stutters and chugs between 40 and 50 mph. *tr
I was driving to go to lunch when my throttle body just stopped working in the middle of the road. i was unable to drive my vehicle to a safe location out of the way of traffic. i had to shut it off several times to just get it a side road. i have contacted ford in regards to being reimbursed for having this part replaced which i paid for out of my own pocket and they are not willing to reimburse me stating that the date for reimbursement was over july 31st 2014. i have found on the nhtsa that the warranty is good for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the data of original purchase, which i purchased the car in november 2012 and there is only 55,000 miles on it which is clearly under the warranty. i had the part replaced at bartow ford in bartow, fl and the are refusing to reimburse me as well. *tr
After waiting for traffic signal, i began my turn left. just past the intersection, i lost power with sort of a chugging motion in the vehicle. i was able to get off the road. the indicator on the instrument panel was of a small wrench, indicating throttle control/powertrain in the manual. i called the dealer and was able to start the car and drive in. the charge for installing ds7z 9e926 d (throttle body and motor as) was $400.46 plus tax. with less than 38000 miles on this vehicle, i did not expect to have this kind of repair. *tr
After stopping at a light on a highway i proceeded to turn left and pressed the accelerator and the engine cut out. i had to coast across the highway. *tr
I noticed from a gentleman from the street and told me as i was pumping it was running out also yesterday my engine light came on
Numerous times since we bought our ford escape on june 1st, 2010, we have had the car surge when starting off and having to apply the brakes quickly. this has happened since we first got the vehicle. i have also filed a report (odi # 10520754) for the engine going to idle at highway speeds because of the throttle body needing replacing. from a dead stop, when we want to just move up a little because the car in front of us has, we have pushed the accelerator and then brake and the car surges forward like i mashed the gas harder. several times, this has caused us to hit the vehicle in front of us but rarely causing damage. the surging has happened probably 150 times over the 3 years we have owned the vehicle. both my wife and i have bumped into the car in front of us about 10 times only causing minimal damage and never filed on any insurance. the ford dealer in memphis (dobbs ford wolfchase) told me that this was a characteristic of a front wheel drive vehicle. this was our first fwd vehicle we have owned since 1994. our vehicle now has about 60600 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 75 mph, a fuel odor emitted inside the vehicle without warning. after the vehicle was parked, the fuel odor was noticed outside the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump gasket needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. updated 05/17/16*lj the consumer stated the vehicle should be included in a recall. updated 11/1/2017*js
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 95 mph, the vehicle stalled with the wrench light illuminated. the vehicle was abel to restart but the failure recurred and the vehicle did not restart. the vehicle was towed to the advantage ford of stuart dealer (772-287-0955, located at 4000 se federal hwy, stuart, fl 34997) where the technician diagnosed failure as being the throttle body sensor needing replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred two years later. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the throttle body sensor was replaced again. the failure recurred several times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the same dealer who provided a loner vehicle and performed a diagnostic test. at that point, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred a year later. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was not repaired. parts distribution disconnect. the failure mileage was approximately 100.
