We have classified the 182 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Cruising at 60mph. without warning, car slows, throttle unresponsive. engine warning light on. car did not stall, but would not respond to throttle. coast to side of road, dodging traffic. put car in park, restarted and everything was normal. as of oct 7, 2013 this has occurred five times. code reader picks up no codes from engine pcm. *tr
Vehicle stalled upon acceleration from stop, and lost all throttle function. surges at idle, and intermittently stalls. throttle failed the next day at highway speed. same symptoms as the failed throttle body sensor issue that was fixed by october 2009, but my escape was built in december '09 after the problem was supposedly fixed. *tr
The vehicle is a 2010 ford escape. driving my 2010 escape the engine stalled. the speed i was going was about 20 mph. with no prior warning the wrench light came on, the rpm's fluctuated and i could not accelerate the vehicle. the dealer said it could be a number of things but after investor i found in the internet very similar behavior with other ford escapes and it said that at the end it was the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced i waited after 3 days with my car at the dealership and called them and told them to check the throttle body. they confirm that it needed to be replace, but i told them and yet i had to pay for diagnostics and the replacement of the throttle at my expense as it was not under warranty. this engine stall issue occurred 08/17/2013 to 08/19/2013 ( 5 times). *tr
I was driving on highway 680 in stop n go traffic. i put my foot on gas to go, but my car just wouldn't go. i tried to accelerate, but nothing happened. i quickly pulled over in the shoulder on the right side. the car started shaking. i put my car in parking mode and turned off the engine. i restarted it again, and it worked. so, i went into the oncoming traffic to get back on the highway. after about a mile further in stop n go traffic, my car did the same exact thing. it stopped working, and started shaking when i pulled over to the shoulder. i turned off the engine again. i wasn't feeling comfortable with driving my car since same thing happened twice. so, i had to call the tow company and had it towed to my home. *tr
Was driving family back to out cabin in pigeon fodge tn, all of sudden in three lanes of traffic our suv made a sudden surge and lost forward motion speed dropped and it would not go above 1 grand on tachometer. it would crawl but barley. traffic behind me started blowing their horns. i hit the emergency lights. and started to getus off the parkway. we made it. the yellow wrench appeared on the dash and the suv idled very ruff. i turned it off. waited looked under the dash. got the family out because it was hot outside. then did not learn anything from hood up. started the suv back up and it ran. got the family back in the suv and went back to cabin. thanks that is all i know. we have to go back home in morning so i hope i can make it 3 hour trip. *tr
I was driving on the interstate at a speed of 75mph when all of a sudden i lost all power to the drive train and the rpm went down to 900. i was traveling in the left lane on the interstate and had to make my way across all three lanes of traffic with no power. *tr
I was driving down the freeway when suddenly, my engine lost power. a wrench light came on, and my throttle was completely unresponsive. fortunately, i was in the right lane, so i was able to coast safely off the freeway and onto the side of the road. i shut my car off, waited a minute or two, and then restarted my car. everything seemed fine after that. this happened again, now totaling 6 times, all while i was driving. went to the mechanic, he called the dealership. he was told that this was a very common problem and that he could put a rush order on it for an additional 15% of the price, and it would still take 2 weeks. through normal channels, it would wake several months. i need my car to work, and two things bother me the most: a rush order would still take 2 weeks to be delivered, and if it's a common problem, it feels as though ford is doing nothing to alleviate it, especially since it impairs my ability to drive safely on the road. i am constantly paranoid while driving on the road, and i have no other choice but to continue to drive my car, since it's my only means of transportation. *tr
As i am driving the vehicle i loose all power and acceleration without warning of any kind. diagnostic code reads a p 2111 (throttle control system stuck open) this has happened several times and i have been in heavy traffic what it has. luck i wasn't killed by a semi. as i said it looses power and acceleration and stalls out i have looked around online and there are several complaints out there but no recall for it. why is this? if there are so many of these vehicles having identical problems that the part to that needs to be replaced is on back order nation wide then there is a manufacturing defect not a part failure do to use. what is up with this. *tr
When coming to a stop and then trying to accelerate from and idle position the vehicle will loose power. by this i mean the vehicle stays on, lights on dash remain on, motor is still running, but the accelerator pedal has no effect on the vehicle. the vehicle has shutter to it. pressing the gas pedal has no effect no matter how much you try or how much time passes. you have to coast to the side of the road, turn off the vehicle, and restart the vehicle to get the gas pedal working again. this is a very very dangerous flaw in the vehicle as this has happened to me three times in busy los angeles intersections. i fear it will cause an accident. the ford dealer wants to charge me $800 to replace the throttle body which has hundreds of thousands of complaints online about this exact issue. they refused to acknowledge this recurring and very prominent flaw in their vehicle and say even the extended warranty i purchased for $2,200 will not cover this particular part. this is very frustrating. hopefully you guys can bring some justice to the hundreds of thousands of people dealing with this exact issue. thank you for your time. *tr
Under power, the engine looses power and enters "limp home mode", idling with minimal power. *tr
Vehicle has the same throttle body condition as other failed units. code p2111. *tr
Faulty ignition switch
Vehicle was traveling on highway when the vehicle shook and started to stall and shut off at 55 mph. the vehicle slowed down and the engine light and wrench light illuminated. vehicle was shuttering and slowing down with the engine cutting out. i immediately attempted to get off the road in order to not have a rear end accident with any speeding vehicles traveling behind the car. once car was shut off, vehicle had a clicking noise when turning the car over to start, then restarted to a normal condition. at 45 mph on a city street, 3 days later the same stall and engine cut out occurred. *tr
While making a right turn in my 2010 ford escape the car loss all acceleration. the next morning it happened twice more. my mechanic took the car & attached to the computer and the code p2112 appeared. he cleaned the throttle body and took a test drive. it lost acceleration 10 more times. this is a disgrace and the part must be recalled by the ford motor company! *tr
My husband was driving out of a parking lot when all of a sudden the orange wrench light came on. the car started to decrease in acceleration even though his foot was on the gas pedal. he then applied pressure to the brakes to pull over to the side and the car pulsed to a stop. he put the car in park and shut it off. when trying to restart the car would not turn over right away, and took at least 5 seconds or more for it to start. since this issue has occurred, it has happened 7 more times in a matter of 5 days. luckily this happened while my husband was driving my car and he continues to drive it until we get it fixed. i primarily drive this car 99% of the time and i am 7 months pregnant. i can't even imagine what i would do if this happened to me on the highway or in the middle of a busy intersection. we are very lucky that no one got hurt during these instances. i can't believe ford has not done a major recall on this issue. my sister in-law had the same issues with her 2009 escape and just recently had her throttle body replaced as well. the lack of caring about its customers will definitely make me rethink about ever buying a ford again. *tr
I was driving to work and my car started to jerk. then my power train light came on and my car totally stopped on me in the middle of the road. i took it to the shop that day and the told me it was my throttle body. my warranty didn't cover it, so i had to pay over 300 dollars for a new part. *tr
The vehicle has been diagnosed with a throttle bar issue by a ford dealer. we have been waiting for 30+ days for a new throttle body part. from the time of the first incident in april, the vehicle has stopped running while driving and has been having electrical issues upon start up about a half dozen times including today. rather than enter a complaint for each incident because we can not recall the exact dates, we are submitting this complaint to cover all incidents. we have been told the part is back ordered and there is no estimated date of delivery. we have not experienced a surge in speed as of yet. is this vehicle safe for us to be driving? *tr
When driving, the wrench light would come and the engine would stall. the gas medal goes limp and you cant give it gas. i had to pull over and turn it off than back on it began to work. it has been doing it for a week and then i got a diagnostic and code p2112 came up. it said that the throttle actuator control system stuck closed. *tr
Driving at 60mph motor shut off no lights no sound , no warning. *tr
My vehicle has been running great until the last week. three times in the span of an hour drive from one location to my house my vehicle has begun to shake and then quit running. two of the three times we were driving 65mph on a busy freeway and were unable to control the vehicle, having to allow the car to idle to a stop on the shoulder. thankfully we were able to do so safely. we drove the vehicle to our dealership for inspection today and the car shook, as if ready to shut down again, the entire trip. i received a call saying the electronic throttle body needs to be replaced. i have since seen several similar safety complaints regarding the same engine part and have requested the original part be returned to me. my vehicle is only three years old and in good condition, and it is entirely unsafe for a car to unexpectedly quit running, period. *tr
I was traveling approximately 35-40 mph when my car stalled, but not shutting off and the rpm fluttering between 1000-2000 rpm. my accelerator pedal would not allow me to press it to increase rpm or mph. next my check engine light came one and the wrench symbol as well. i call my local ford dealership/service and he explained it to be the accelerator throttle body and there is a national back order for this part. if this is the case there should be a national recall from the government or ford about this problem. *tr
Defective electronic throttle body caused car to stop on a state highway. conversation with ford dealer and research on internet revealed that ford and nhtsa know about this defect. there should be a recall on this item. *tr
The escape engine stopped providing power and the accelerator stopped responding. the car engine went to idle. after pulling over shutting car off then on again the engine began responding. this happened about 10 times before getting the car to a service dealer. the problem was identified as a failed throttle body. the dealer indicated that these parts are on a 10 day back-order due to so many vehicles having the same failure and parts are not available due to surge in demand. *tr
Vehicle stalls while driving , stalls while idle , rpm's spike while driving !!! scary !! codes read p2112 . (throttle stuck open ) thinking bad throttle body ? *tr
I was driving on i35 e in lewisville, tx when the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating, i had been traveling at approx 40 mph in rush hour traffic. the vehicle/engine was still on but i could not continue forward. i exited the highway and glided into a parking lot ( after nearling being killed by a large truck on the service road) the wrench light came on as well as the engine light. i pulled into a parking space and the vehicle started to violently shake. i put in park and turned the vehicle off. i waited a few minutes and started the vehicle with no issues. the vehicle idled fine and i could rev up the engine. i drove around the parking lot with no issues however the check engine light was still on. i tried going onto a residential street and when i accelerated above 20mph the vehicle would no longer accelerate and had to pull over and had the same before mentioned results. i called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed. i called a local ford dealership and i was advised it was most likely an electronic throttle body issue and they have them come in all the time. this needs to be recalled immediately as this very well could have cause a major accident. *tr
While driving my vehicle lost acceleration and then began to shake the wrench and engine lights came on. recently went to a shop and the issue is because of a part called throttle body. *tr
While driving at a constant speed of approximately 35 mph, vehicle suddenly stalled without warning or hesitation. i coasted to a stop in a nearby parking lot (luckily!), turned ignition off and vehicle restarted and ran with no problems for almost two weeks. on saturday, july 13th while driving in a similar situation, the vehicle again stalled and would not restart until i coasted to a stop on the side of the road and turned the ignition off. since then the vehicle has done this about a half dozen times but not always by just stalling. the vehicle has also went into 'limp home' mode on at least one occasion when my son was driving and he was lucky enough to be close to a friend's house where it sat overnight. when we started it the next time it ran like it was misfiring very badly, so we turned the ignition off and tapped on the throttle body with the handle of a screwdriver. it then started and idled normally and we were able to drive it about three miles home. it also has sputtered erratically similar to a very bad repeated misfiring until stopping and turning the ignition off. it did this twice within a quarter mile and then ran fine for over 15 miles that i drove it to the ford dealership who wanted $107 dollars to diagnose a problem that i am fairly certain i already had figured out. the dealership said their 'specially trained' technicians may find a different cause than the p2111 code i had read with a scanner from a local auto parts store suggested. i have found out that this problem was supposed addressed by ford thinking that there was a printed circuit board problem in the electronic throttle body. however, this vehicle was manufactured in march of 2010, after the october 15th, 2009 date they had started using the new part. *tr
On 7/1/2013, i was driving my ford escape 2010 on the highway 50-55 mph and felt the car shift and then the accelerator failed. the car limped onto the shoulder and the wrench light was illuminated. it was towed to the dealer for repair. technician was not available to diagnose until day 2 then told it was full body throttle electrical component and part is on back order. still waiting for the part a week later with no end to the wait in sight. 36 month warranty ended may 21, 2013. dealer did not offer a loaner car and after repeatedly requesting one they say they have none available. service manager said five other cars are waiting for the part at their dealership. i mentioned that i read about the investigation on the internet and they said they will file a report with ford corporate. as of today, 7/9 the report had not been filed. i am very frustrated with the dealership service personnel. they are not forthcoming with information. i have had to call them numerous times because they are not returning calls. *tr
Cranked the escape, selected drive but the engine would cut off. crank it back up and cutoff. happened several times. finally got the car moving by keeping the rpms up. drove about 40 minutes of speeds up to 55 mph. when we got near our destination everytime we slowed down the car would knock off. car would crank but would knock off again. able to keep car going by keeping rpms up. car was towed to ford dealership and repaired. *tr
Driving approx 40mph when vehicle started stalling. rpm drops to approx 1000, gas pedal does not respond. happened multiple times in the past, taken to dealership but "no codes were found to suggest a defect." have to turn the car off and restart with it being in park before starts to run and wrench light turns off. drove to the dealer after that last incident on 6/21, code 2111 was found to be pending which would have been lost if i turned the car off, found it to be the electronic throttle body. for a car that is 3 years old and 40k miles, it is dangerous to have this defect as if it happens on the highway you are stuck with a chance for a semi-truck to rear end you. please allow this recall for the safety of others. *tr
While driving our escape, you try to accelerate and there is nothing there. you can push the gas pedal to the floor and the engine does not respond. this has happened 4 times in about 6 day period. we have had to pull our vehicle to side of the road/highway and shut it off and then restart it. it does starts working again but we don't know when it will happen again. we took it to harrold zeiglers in kalamazoo michigan, and they told us it was a electronic throttle body and there was 8013 of them on back order and no eta on when they will be in. i called ford customer service and they told me the same story.[xxx], and [xxx] were the first to agents i spoke with. i told them that their answers were not good enough and i wanted to speak to their manager. he called me back 2 hours later(terry badge#62889) and he told me they were already aware of this issue and they could not help me because i had too many miles on my escape(75000) which i told him i wanted to speak to his supervisor. he told me his boss would give me the same answer. i asked him if the national highway safety commission was aware of this issue and he said they were and that my issue and conversation would also be reported. i am not sure why there is not a recall for this issue as there are currently 8013 on back order. i wonder how many have already been replaced. this issue could cause a serious accident for someone else or my wife as she is the driver of our escape. we are currently without a vehicle to drive because of this. thank you for your time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Vehicle stalled several times. loses power with no acceleration when feeding gas. wrench indicator light comes on, indicates throttle body issue. vehicle needs to be restarted. took to the shop after 3 incidences. mechanics tell me the electronic throttle body has failed. parts on national back order due to high frequency of incidences. please issue a recall! *tr
Driving around 65mph and the car suddenly shuts off and the check engine light came on, loss of all power all i could do was try to make my way from the fast lane over to the shoulder, drifted to the side of the road and turned the car off and it restarted after a few minutes and drove fine all the way home, a few days later it did the same thing, cut off while doing around 60mph again in the fast lane i had to try and get over through 4 lanes of traffic with cars blowing by me at over 80mph to get to the shoulder, this is going to get someone killed. i called ford and they know of the issue, seems the issue is so bad the part thats the cause of the problem (the throttle body) is on back order, you have been investigating since feb. why has this not been recalled yet? *tr
Was driving home wed june 12, turned a corner (going approx 5-10mph) and the car just turned off. pulled over and waited a minute then it started right up; drove it home (approx 3/4 mile) and it just "died" again in my driveway. next morning i was taking it in to the shop to see what the problem could be and as i drove up the entrance, vehicle again just died! (had it checked, nothing found) approx 3 weeks later, june 27, i was going down the freeway approx 65mph getting ready to exit and the car completely went dead (fortunately i could pull over so i did not get hit). i stopped put it in park, waited a minute and then it started right up again. took it to the ford dealer the following morning, june 28, and was told it needed a new electronic throttle body which is on back order 3-4 weeks! i was also advised that the car was really too dangerous to drive so they recommended that i try not to drive it till the part comes in!! good if you have 2 vehicles!! *tr
I was stopped at a red light preparing to turn right. while at a complete stop, the vehicle jolted forward momentarily and again came to a stop. i turned right and immediately my accelerator failed and the car would only move forward at a speed less than 5 miles per hour. i coasted into a parking lot where i turned off the vehicle and restarted it. it accelerated normally for a moment before failing again. the warning light that appeared was correlated with the power train, per the vehicle's instruction manual. when inspected by a ford dealership, the mechanic said the throttle system had failed and needed to be replaced. all inspections and services related to the vehicle were up-to-date and there were no other problems detected. no one was injured. *tr
Vehicle will cut off while driving, when i get off the road to a stop it sounds like it is idiling rough but will not move. this vehicle will shut off at any speed without warning. very dangerous to drive on interstate. *tr
I was driving on the highway when the motor in the escape just died, i was forced to move from the left lane of the highway to the right with almost no power. no accident occurred i took the truck to the ford dealership and they say that part is on national backorder ford is making 4000 of the throttle bodies in order to keep with the demand. *tr
My vehicle is a 2010 ford escape 6 cyc with 4 wd. this was a new vehicle purchased in early 2010 as it had 4.7 miles on it when purchased and i put most of those miles on it during the test drive. when traveling at highway speed recently in heavy traffic the vehicle suddenly lost all ability to accelerate. it was as if there was no gas pedal in the vehicle at all. no shuddering, or chugging after this occurred and absolutely no warning at all before it occurred. it was extremely lucky that no one was injured as i attempted to make my way across 4 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. the vehicle never shut off when this occurred. i then turned the vehicle off, waited, and then restarted and it seemed to run fine. i took it to the ford dealership where it was purchased to assess the situation. i was told the battery was bad which they replaced. i questioned as to how a battery could cause this type of problem as i understand some of the vehicle mechanics and my research showed that it was more than likely a throttle body issue and i was assured that battery was most certainly the issue due to the complex nature of vehicles today and their on board computers. when the battery was replaced my wife picked up the vehicle and had just entered the interstate when at highway speed the same exact problem occurred where an accident was almost caused by her efforts to exit the road. again no warning. when it was restarted it was driven back to the dealership. today, it was confirmed by the ford dealership that in fact it was the throttle body issue that my research had show it to be, and more so, the part, which is somehow not a safety recalled item by the nhtsa, is on back-order by ford because of the shear number of these parts going bad and needing to be replaced in so many vehicles. i now own a vehicle that cannot be operated safely without a safety recall. *tr
I was driving about 40mph and my escape all of sudden lost power. the vehicle stayed running but it would not drive forward. the traffic was light, so i was able to pull over with my flashers on and stop. had the traffic been in rush hour there could have been a major accident. i tried to put the vehicle in reverse and drive and it wouldn't do anything, but the engine stayed running and the "wrench warning light" appeared on the dash. i then turned the vehicle off and waited a few minutes and started in up again. everything then ran fine. i took the escape to the ford dealer where they found out that the power failure did occur in the throttle body air intake and it needed to be replaced. they also informed me that they had another escape that was needing to be worked on with the same problem and parts were on backorder and it would be a few weeks before mine would be fixed. *tr
While entering a freeway at 40mph the car stalled, thankfully there was a shoulder to pull on to otherwise we would've been rear ended. this has happened at differing speeds as well. the wrench light in the dash comes on and the vehicle stalls. restarting vehicle will usually resume with no issues. no codes are stored so dealer can't find problem. this has happened 10x's at least. i'm scared to let my wife or daughter drive this vehicle. no signs given that it will stall. *tr
While driving my 2010 ford escape it would occasionally go into a limp mode causing me to pull over on the highway and turn off the car and attempt to restart. there is no telling when it would happen as it was intermittent. *tr
The vehicle lost power while on highway at 65mph. engine did not stop running completely but the vehicle would not go. had to pull over, turn vehicle off and restart. did this 6 separate times 3 on 5/30 and 3 on 5/31/13. this has been diagnosed as a common problem by repair shop as faulty throttle body. *tr
While driving in neighborhood at approx. 15mph, engine stalled and orange wrench light came on. pulled over to side of street, shut down engine and then restarted. engine ran fine for another 2 weeks and then same event occurred with wife driving. one week later, did same thing while i was driving. ford dealer has car now and says they are waiting for a throttle body. car has been in shop for over 1 week so far. *tr
At the initial failure, while traveling on manchester road the vehicle stalled and i had to pull to the side of the road. a week later at the second failure while standing at a stop light the vehicle stalled and i had to restart the vehicle. *tr
I will be driving along and the engine acts as if it didn't get enough gas and air mixture so it kicks out of shifting and just slows down then it starts hopping. it gives me a symbol on the dashboard of a wrench. i looked it up and it says it the throttle body. i had a mechanic come with his handheld computer and read the code and it says throttle aviator stuck open, then he erases the computer code nd i am able to drive until the next tome it happens. which it has happen everyday now since june 12th. ford has said that the part is being revamped and not sure when it will be available. my mechanic said that he has replaced many of these. why has it not been recalled? i have loses income because i do not want to be out on the road and have this happen when i'm on the highway with a semi behind me, then they will have a law suit to deal with. *tr
I was driving the vehicle at approximately 40mph when with no warning, the car started to stutter like it was going to stall out and i lost all ability to accelerate. the monkey wrench warning light came on and i was able to pull off to the side of the before someone hit me from behind and turned off the vehicle. i called for assistance, but the vehicle started up again fine, and i was able to drive it to the nearest ford dealer. they advised it was most likely a throttle train issue, and they replaced the throttle train. *tr
Electronic throttle body - code p2111 displayed - action number pe13003 car lost transmission power and eventually stopped out on route 1 south. the issue began at the top of the morris goodkind bridge , as the incident occurred i noticed the wrench icon in the lower left of the dashboard and the check engine light i was in the left lane traveling at the average pace of traffic, i managed to get to the center lane once i realized the issue and eventually the car came to a complete stop [ engine would rev but no power would transfer to transmission] near the dangerous exit ramp for route 18 n and s. luckily no one behind me were involved in any accidents. i turned put the car in park and turned the engine off i restarted the engine and shifted to drive the car seemed to be working again. i got past the rt. 18 ramp and got into the right lane i made it about 1.5 miles near rutgers cook college where this issue happened again, this time i got onto the shoulder before the car came to a complete stop. once again i put the car in park and it started up again i drove it home approximately 2 miles before leaving it parked until tuesday may 14th when my wife and i could drop it off at the local dealership, malouf ford in north brunswick nj. this is a major safety concern , the check engine lamp or the wrench icon do not display until this part fails. unexpectedly losing power and stopping on one of the busiest most traveled portion of route 1 is scary. i am glad that my 2 year old son and my pregnant wife were not injured when this occurred. in addition countless other motorists were put at risk due to this part failure without warning. ******i have all reciepts and documentation if you need further information or assistance. *tr
2010 ford escape xlt continues to have intermittent occurrences of "stalling in motion" with no warning. we have been lucky so far that the vehicle will coast to shoulder or a parking lot. if we drive on interstate we only travel in the right lane in case we have to coast off. vehicle then idles roughly at about 800 rpm. vehicle has to be put in park and shut-off. then restart so far makes vehicle go again sometimes. vehicle may have to be restarted multiple times to get moving again. however, this is getting more commonplace and we will not allow our young inexperienced drivers to operate the vehicle due to the extreme safety risks associated with operating the vehicle. this is placing a huge burden on our family as we cannot afford to have the vehicle repaired at ford dealer due to the high expense involved. vehicle has check engine light with p2111 code on several occasions which specifically isolates the throttle body malfunction. this situation needs to be remedied by ford before a death occurs as it will occur soon especially on interstates or highways. *tr
While driving approx 55mph the vehicle shut down. had to pull over and restart vehicle twice before it would move. *tr
While driving car engine suddenly decelerates to a fast rough idle. car must be pulled to the side of the road , then shut off and restarted to continue driving. this incident has occurred 4 times between 5/6 and 5/15/2013. car has been in the ford dealers shop for a week now without a fix, seems like the onboard computer does not save the diagnostic data after being shut off. new fords with 1970's computer technology ? i believe this is a safety issue and ford needs to do whatever it takes to fix the problem. *tr
