We have classified the 182 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
From the time we first bought the escape (new) the battery light has came on at random times. we have taken in and dealer said there is not an electrical problem. when we drive the car and have the heat or air on it will randomly turn off and then a minute later come back on full blast. i also have rust under wheel wells that ford said they would not cover because it did not preferate the body but is clearly creeping up the uouside of the rear quarter panel as well. i have seen this on many of the same year escapes. when i pushed for results they opened an investigation then came back and said they would split the cost with me which i believe should be fully covered since it was still under the 5 year unlimited mileage body coverage. also, my wife was driving the vehicle last week and it randomly stalled on her causing her to pull off the road. safety is becoming a concern. not pleased with results given.
Vehicle had exited from freeway and was stopped on an exit ramp stop light. when gas was pushed to move vehicle from stopped position, the engine accelerated but the vehicle would not move forward. initially, the wrench light appeared on dash and then later, this disappeared and the check engine light came on. vehicle was taken to a nearby auto parts facility where a computer code evaluation was completed- this yielded the same code appearing 3 times: a problem involving the throttle actuator control system sensor. the technician stated that when the same problem code appears 3 times during the check, this accurately pin-points the problem. *tr
While traveling on i495 at a steady highway speed of 68mph the car without warning dropped to idle speed with rapid deceleration. the engine did not shut down but ran approx. 800-900rpm. we pulled to the side of the to avoid being hit from behind. i had to shut the car off and restart to get any throttle response. i traveled off the interstate on slower roads to get home for fear of this happening at high speed again. it has happened three more time both at high speed and acceleration from a stop. it was back to the ford dealer for the recall 13b17 on 7/7/14. there have been two more events of no power from stop and low power at highway speed since the tsb was performed. no parts have been replaced, no codes set. *tr
I was driving along and my car stopped receiving input from the gas pedal at 50 mph entering the highway. this happened a month ago. this has happened twice as well as my car taking off when i accelerate from stopped position. today 7/31/14 the gas pedal failed to work again when in a turn thank god nobody was behind me. you guys know there is a throttle body issue with all these ford escapes but yet you let them get away with this. does someone have to die from a rear end collision because the throttle stays closed on the highway? people's lives are at stake here. my wife and kid are in this car what happens i go to pull out and it decides to just stay stuck halfway into the lane bam i get t boned then have to sue everyone that knew about this issue. *tr
While traveling 60 mph on i-45 south of houston, tx. my 2010 ford escape lost power. i immediately had to maneuver across 3 lanes of traffic while coasting to a stop. luckily i was not hit!!! i turned the vehicle off and allowed it to sit for a few minutes. i restarted it and the orange wrench symbol appeared on the dash. i turned it off and restarted it again. this time the malfunction indicator lamp came on. i drove the vehicle home with limited operation, decreased engine power and vehicle speed. i experienced failure one more time during this trip. when i had the diagnostic trouble codes (dtc) pulled it was p2111, "throttle body stuck open." researching it on the internet revealed nhtsa action number pe13003. *tr
The first incident occurred approximately 2months ago (april 2014) as i was driving on a state road (new circle rd in lexington ky)at around 60mph during my morning commute around 8am. the vehicle seemingly stalled but all the systems were fine (still had power steering, lights, radio, braking system etc) with the exception of the accelerator which didn't do anything when i put my foot on the gas. i was able to coast over to the side of the road turned the engine off, sat for about 5 mins & was able to continue on the road without further issue (the check engine light didn't even come back on). the most recent date was 06/07/14 with my family in the car as passengers. i was at a stoplight turning left when, as previously, the engine stalled as i was turning. again, all systems registered and were working but when i put my foot on the gas nothing happened. again i was luckily able to coast to the side of the road and turn off the engine. this time after waiting roughly 5 mins and turning the engine back on, nothing happened after i hit the accelerator. i turned the engine back off and waited an additional 5 mins. this time i was able to give the car gas and as my home was nearby was thankfully able to make it to my house. the check engine light however did not go off as it had previously. i took the car to my dealership on 06/09/14 and they confirmed that it was the throttle body. *tr
While making a left turn, the vehicle stalled and went into limp mode. turned ignition off, waited 10 minutes, then cranked vehicle, and it ran normally...updated 12/04/14 *bf
1st occurance happened when going into an exit in the state of pennsylvania from the highway. all gadgets froze and shut down. engine kept running but stayed at 40 mph no matter how many times i pressed on the brake. 2nd occurence happened on the highway in nj, same thing speedometer stayed stuck at 40 mph no matter how many times i pressed on the brakes. *js
When traveling at approx 50 mph, the engine made an automatic de acceleration, with the rpms going to 1000. even when stepping on the gas pedal, the rpms did not change and the car came to a very slow speed just over idle speed. a wrench symbol appeared in the indicator lights. i placed in park and turned off the car. when restarting, the wrench symbol went away and the car drove normal for about 20 miles until the same thing happened. it appears that something in the computer brains is telling the engine to shut down. this happened a few more times over weekend and thankfully i was not in heavy traffic and was able to pull off to the shoulder. today is may 4, 2014 and tomorrow i plan to take the car into ford dealership on sterling virginia. i have read recent complaints from ford escape owners that match exactly my problem. this is obviously unsafe and should be reported as a re call. *tr
The back hatch will not open. there's no clicking sound when locking or unlocking. the window does open and close.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the air conditioner function failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the desiccant filter fractured as a result, the air conditioner unit needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 32,500. drrk
On dec.31 at approximately 2 p.m. i was driving south on citrus ave. i was going 55 mph and my vehicle started losing speed. i moved to the side of the road. i turned off the ignition and when i restarted the car it ran as normal. prior to that, on several occasions upon starting from a stop i had noticed faster acceleration than the amount of pressure i was applying to the gas pedal. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vent controls failed without warning. the contact was unable to use the air conditioning and heating function. years before, the dealer replaced the power steering control module and the ic module, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body sensor and blower motor failed. the contact later experienced an extremely strong vibration in the steering wheel and the power steering warning light flashed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection to determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the dealer replaced the parts. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 97,411.
While driving at 55mph on road. i lost all power to gas pedal the car was hard to steer to the side of the road. put car in park shut car off .waited a few minutes an started car up. it ran this happens 2 or 3 times on the same day then it might not happen again for a week or two this a ongoing problem that ford should place a safety recall not on soft customer satisfaction program#13no3 this is a serious safety issue. *tr
Since december, i have had several warning lights appear on my dash. it started with a low tire light. i visually checked the tires and saw nothing wrong with them so i kept an eye on them. after about a week, the light went off. no reason. it has happened three other times since then. next came the fuel fill indicator light while on a trip over 300 miles from home. after a few days it went off. came on one other time since then. next was the check engine light. it came on when on another trip over 300 miles from home. still on a few days later so i went to auto zone for the free test. they told me it could be either the gas cap, which it doesn't come with, or a leak. vak leak system. p1111 seems by discussion boards that this is happening to a lot of people! http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t35733_ds539369. *tr
Was driving the vehicle on the interstate at about 60 mph and exited safely. went through typical stop-and-go rush hour traffic for about 2 minutes until reaching work, in which the campus' speed is set to 25 mph throughout. vehicle was traveling on work campus a little under 30 mph. suddenly, the car stalled and the battery and oil warning lights had come on. steering the vehicle to a safe parking place was difficult as the steering wheel had become tight. once safely parked, the vehicle was turned off and after 5 seconds turned back on. the engine started up normally. started driving the vehicle closer to where it was needed to be parked and the engine stalled again after 1000 feet and the steering went tight again. turned off the vehicle again and after 5 seconds attempted to turn it back on. the engine had trouble starting but after an abnormal amount of time trying to turn over, the engine did. was able to get the vehicle in the appropriate parking area. vehicle has full tank of gasoline, 2000 miles over oil change recommendation by dealer, and factory battery. vehicle has never been off-road but has been subject to easy snow accumulations since purchased from dealership. *tr
While driving vehicle it will rev high and then stall while in traffic. starts back up fine and then immediately stalls out again. this has happened three different times in the past 3 weeks. *tr
At night, while stopped on red traffic light waiting for change to green, the vehicle stalls an shut off. did not start right over until a while. all dashboard panel lights were on. after 45 minutes tried to start it and it just move very, very slow and did not accelerate until it died again a 100 feet farther. we call road assistance to take us home in a towing truck. at the other day we call the towing truck again to take the suv to the dealer since it was in warranty, when we start it before leaving it was working fine. the service tech at ford tell us that probably it is the throttle body since other people has been having the same issue. they test it and they say that nothing is wrong... my warranty is about to expire and i think that they are playing us to take the unit home and when it happen again charge us for the cost of the part... $$$$ very expensive!!! this is a hazardous issue since it can happen while driving it can cause an accident or lost of life. *tr
While traveling at a relatively low traveling speed the vehicle seems to lose power and i can no longer accelerate. the tool light/check engine light will come on and i can coast to a stop. once i stop the vehicle i turn it off. when i restart the vehicle it hesitates for approx 6 seconds and then turns over/restarts with no further problems. this has occurred four times since 11/6/13. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape xlt. the contact stated that the fuel light illuminated followed by the check engine warning light illuminating. several days later, the vehicle failed to start. the dealer was notified and stated that the ignition switch would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000. the vehicle was not repaired.
I was driving on the highway with my cruise control on when the cruise control shut off and a wrench light came on. the car stopped excelling and i had to cruise from the fast lane over 2 lanes to the side of the road. once to the side i turned my car off waited a minute and then turned it back on. it turned on fine and ran fine from then on. i of course called ford immediately but it was after hours and i left a message. after about an hour of driving it began to shake my foot when i pushed on the accelerator. prior to this i did feel some slipping or surges every so often when i was accelerating as if it was having trouble shifting. when i brought it to ford it was decided that my throttle body needed to be replaced. this was done fast and was covered under my extended warranty it was to be fixed for just my deductible of $100. all fine and dandy until i read the reviews that this has been going on for a while and multiple people have been affected. *tr
While driving down the road at about 45mph, the car stopped acknowledging that i was pushing the gas pedal. the car steadily slowed down, regardless of how much i pushed on the gas pedal. i ended up veering off into a parking lot and shutting the car off. i waited about 5 minutes and restarted it. it acted normal and i resumed my driving. it has happened about 5 times since then as well. thankfully i haven't been on the highway and have had a place to pull off the road. *tr
I was driving into work on a 5 lane, heavy traffic road going about 45 mph when my car suddenly lost all of its engine power. the radio, lights were still working, the car simply wouldn't accelerate and actually slowed down considerably to a point where i was basically stopped on the road. i was able to coast into a turning lane so i was at least out of the main traffic lane. i turned the car off, started it again and as i prepared to make a left turn to get into a parking lot i lost all acceleration again and barely made it out of the intersection. i was able to put the car in neutral and coast it into a parking lot. my car required a tow to a local dealership and the issue was an electronic throttlebody failure. i'm extremely thankful that i didn't make it onto the freeway because if i stopped in that traffic i'm not sure i would have been able to avoid a major accident. *tr
On highway approx. 5 miles into journey when vehicle suddenly stops with a violent jerk throwing all belongings into the floor. all lights on dash come on vehicle remained on. . pressing gas pedal but does not engage. slowly idle over to the side of the road. turned vehicle off and restarted. let run for 5 minutes and drove 300 ft to suitable pull off. orange tool light stayed on in left lower corner of dash after a sluggish start. drove approx. 20 miles to work at night without any further problems. in morning on the way home, vehicle started ok. let run 5 minutes to warm up. traveled approx. 3 miles going 35 mph when vehicle suddenly stops again , vehicle remained on. coasted off road. turned off vehicle and let set for 5 minutes again. vehicle sluggishly started with orange engine light staying on the dash. drove approx. 2 miles at 30 mph when vehicle does the same thing. coasted into parking lot. turned off and checked outside vehicle for any leakage problems . none noted. restarted sluggishly. traveled approx. 22 miles to home without any other problems. husband took to dealership. they checked it and knew beforehand what the problem was because of a history of problems with this vehicle. replaced throttle body assembly mileage at 51814 at a cost of $372.61 parts and labor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 68,500 and the current mileage was 68,771. updated 12/30/13*cn the consumer stated the battery exploded.updated 01/14/14
I filed a complaint yesterday and will continue to as long as this is happening, when i started my car this morning i drove 3 miles and it stopped moving, when i press the gas nothing happened and the wrench light came on, stopped the car turned it off started it drove the car about 20 feet and it did the same. started the car again made it almost to work 3 miles away and it happened again. stopped the car turned it off and started it again it continued all day long approximately 15 times all day. *tr
While driving the engine stalled, but the lights and radio continued to work. we pulled over and put the car into park and attempted to restart the engine, and it started. however, just a couple of weeks later (this past weekend) it happened again. both time we were traveling around 20-25 mph on city streets, no warning on indication prior to the stalling, but when it does stall the oil and engine light comes on. *tr
While driving, the vehicle will stall, or drop to about 800-900 rpm with no response from the accelerator. the "wrench" will come on the instrument panel, and the vehicle will sometimes stall/kill altogether. we have had the codes pulled by a technician, and they say that the "throttle body is stuck open", "the throttle body is stuck closed", and there is one more but i cannot recall it off the top of my head. i have called ford and they have said that they do not have a known issue, nor is this a familiar problem per the symptoms. i have likewise done an internet search and found several complaints, and an nhtsa investigation launched. please advise that this is a major security concern for me - yesterday i was traveling in the left lane of a major freeway, at freeway speeds, when my vehicle seemingly stalled, dropped to 800 rpms, and i had to cross 3 lanes of rush hour traffic to pull over to the shoulder to shut my car off, put it in park, then start it back up and merge back into traffic, then have it repeat the problem less than a mile later. this is a huge problem, and if not fully addressed by ford, my fear is it is going to cause accidents if it hasn't already. thank you in advance for your follow-up and support. *tr
My family was traveling 75-80 mph along i-95 on the way home friday night when all of a sudden all the lights flashed on the dash and power gave out. we quickly moved into the emergency lane (we were lucky we were able to get over considering we had an 18 wheeler behind us) and came to a stop. when we put the car in park the dash lights went off and the power came back. we were unable to get the car up to speed therefore we drove the emergency lane until the next exit where we could get on 301 until we got home. i called the dealer where we brought the car the next morning and my car is still there today (tuesday). i've read how ford doesn't think this is a safety issue.. but let me tell you, not only myself and husband but having my 1 year old son in the back and driving 75 mph and then with no warning the power gives out it definitely is! *tr
While traveling at approximately 45 mph ,vehicle dies,no power and the throttle position sensor comes on. *tr
I was traveling @ about 40 mph when it sounded & felt like the engine quit. there was a wide shoulder so, i pulled to the side of the road. the engine was still running but running poorly and wouldn't rev up over about 1000 rpm. the check engine light came on along with an orange "wrench" light. i switched the engine off, restarted it, and it ran fine for about 1/2 mile. then, the same thing happened again, and again, and again. in the next 2 miles the same thing had happened 3 more times. after almost getting rear-ended by a ram truck the last time it quit, i pulled into a parking lot and called my mechanic who came and towed it to his garage. almost $400 later, my mechanic had replaced the electronic throttle assembly. he told me the ford dealer parts person said he knew the part number by heart because they had replaced so many of these parts. *tr
The throttle body went dead while driving. the car sputtered and shook until it went dead. happened three times on the way to the repair shop. had to get a throttle body directly from ford where they informed us this has happened a lot and they have them in stock just for this reason. also the horns are all dead. replaced both horns and it still didn't work. the repair shop said it may be a module, or an electrical problem that could get worse and spread throughout other systems. *ln updated 1/6/2013 *js
Driving my vehicle home for lunch my vehicle started sputtering and my cruise control kicked off. vehicle rpm's dropped and accelerator pedal quit working. so i pulled over. i used my dtc device to see what code is popping up and it was p2111. i put car in park, shut it off, waited 30 seconds and started it back up and drove home. now i'm here typing this up.
This occurred while driving back from work, i bought the vehicle used and it passed inspection from the ford dealership. i have owned vehicle for almost 5 months when this failure occurred. the symptoms that i experienced were loss of power while accelerating and engine automatically goes into "limp mode" (engine ecu protection protocol so no more damage would be done to the engine) i noticed that the orange wrench light came on in the dashboard, so i took the vehicle to a another ford dealership and i explained what happened, right of the bat the woman behind the counter said it was a transmission failure (without even looking at the vehicle) so i became suspicious. i took the vehicle to another ford dealership and i got a hold of the actual mechanic and right away he said it was the throttle body, out of good faith he advise that i can change that part myself without having to pay ford for them to fix. the estimate for getting it fixed through the dealership was close to $600 +tax, when the part itself cost only around $200 +tax. i bought the part from the dealership and changed it, ever since that fix my vehicle is running even better than before. the man behind the counter that gave me the part mentioned that many people are having this issue and that usually changing the throttle body fixes the issue, he also mentioned that if a recall is to be made to just bring back the defective part and the proof of purchase in order to get my money back. ford should just stop denying this issue and just admit that the issue was never fully fixed.
I was driving vehicle onto entrance ramp of freeway when the power suddenly cut out and the car coasted. the "wrench" light illuminated on the dashboard. i was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road. i called a ford dealer and had the vehicle towed. the throttle body had a fault in the system and was replaced at a cost of nearly $300. *jb
Car throttle almost stalls to rough idle , sputters but cannot give it gas or rev engine wrench symbol lights up you must turn off car to restart after about 10 times and it happening every mile or so the check engine light is on and stays on even after restarting. this will happen out of nowhere while driving at any speed but idles just enough to pull over to safety ! restart and drive a mike and either just idling or accelerating it just quits going . i called taylor ford and was told i was out of warranty but need throttle body and approx $450 ! so they too know it's an issue! *tr
I was driving at 20 miles an hour when suddenly the tool light came on and my ford no longer would get gas from the gas pedal. i was suddenly coasting without ability to give gas to the car however the engine was still running. it came to a stop after i was able to get out of high traffic area almost getting hit by other cars. there is no warning it happened suddenly. shut off car turned back on and was fine. on the 9th of sept just a couple days later this continued to happen a total of three times almost causing a severe accident--something needs to be done about this as it has been reported too many times as being a electronic throttle body failure and it is a defect. i am having to pay for the repairs at the ford dealer tomorrow as i had it tested today and hooked up to diagnostics and there was nothing that gave warnings. i was told to take to the dealer it must be electrical problem. also the rpm's were going crazy when this happened each time. the agency needs to have it so it is recalled item so this wouldn't be coming directly out of the consumers pocket--it is obviously a defect in the ford 2010 escape--i want a refund!!! *tr
Throttle body failure: replacement not only costly, but also on back order and is estimated to take several weeks. *jb
My daughter was driving to school on the hwy to school and car shut down completely which lost all power pulled over and tried to restart and had to wait places to me (father) and then it restarted then she drove on to school then she took car on to dealership and dealership performed search and found that it was a throttle body that was going out.
Repeated instances of the vehicles either stalling in motion or suddenly surging forward when accelerating from a stop. **jb
The vehicle needs a new electronic throttle body error code p2111. the car will lose power, the wrench light will come on, then the engine light will follow. once the car is powered off, then back on it runs again. a few minutes later the same issue occurs. *jb
Driving in the middle lane of a highway going 70 mph, car bucked, wrench light came on, and dropped speed rapidly. pulled over, car was idling rough, tried to hit the gas and the car just jumped forward slightly 3 times going less than 3 mph. turned the car off, back on, and didn't want to start but finally did, wrench light went away and the car drove fine. drove it to the ford dealership 1.5 miles away and they stated it was the electronic throttle body that failed and needed to be replaced. *jb
Ford escape has no power. idles at less than 1000 rpms occassionally sputters. *js
Whe leaving our home in haines city,fl. the vehicle roughly changed gears. then we entered a very busy highway and went to accelerate and lost power, and acted like it wanted to stall the drive triain light then lit up.the vehicles behind blew their horns because the vehicle slowed substantialy without showing brake lights.we took the vehicle to the ford garage ,and charged us for analizing the problem and the cost and installation of the throttlebody. the service representative told us he fthought it would be the throttle body, prior to analizing it.after researching ford vehicle problems on the computer,i found that this is a common problem with the ford vehicles.this is a problem that could cause very serious rea end collisions, and should be the responsibility of the ford motor to repair and to resolve the problem.thisshould not be a failur of this part on a vehicle with low mileage especially. *tt
I was traveling through a busy intersection, as i mashed the gas pedal nothing happened. my car went "limp" as if it had cut off but it was still on. i coasted to the side of the road, just barely avoiding being struck by speeding traffic. i cut my car off and waited 5 minutes then restarted it. i was able drive it a short distance to a mechanic where it again "went limp". after my car was examined, the mechanic determined the problem was the throttle body had malfunctioned. *tr
I was driving about 60 mph when the car lost all power, let cool for about 20 minutes. then drove it about 20 miles it died again. let it cool again an it did this 4 times before getting to dealer. the same thing happen on aug 9 2013 but would not start. dealer examined starter and found nothing wrong by checking codes. this has happened today a total of three times in one year two of those times i was in heavy traffic and was lucky i was not hit from behind. ford needs to check and recall these cars, but they need to see body counts before they see a need to do something.*jb
While drivin about fifty the car just stopped going, the wrench light came on, i tried to push the fas pedal but nothing would happen it just slowed to a stop. so i put it in park and turned it off waited a few seconds and it started up and i drove off. a couple of days later it happened again at about 35 mph, so i did the same. thought it was a fluke and/or the weather being the problem so i called ford dealer and they said it sounds like the throttle body. well for the past month it happens everyday while im driving 65 or 15 just all of the sudden it stops going and i have to pull off the side of the road put it in park and restart it sometimes it goes a few feet and i have to do it again sometimes it just starts and goes and now the check engine light comes on every third time in a row that it happens stays on for a couple days and then goes out for a couple days and so on, just do the recall we have all been reading about it doesn't take a genius like you people to figure this out ........hear let me help you dooooo the recall. *tr
Driving 70 mph on hwy truck just starts to stall no control of gas pedal cars almost crashed in to me i was lucky i was able to coast out of the way. trouble code is p2111 needs a new throttle body that is on back order for a ford national recall and i have to wait days to get, price for part is $380 . after a call to ford customer service they said my car is not recalled but funny how the part number changed and it is the same one they have a recall on and they will not replace the part since my car is out of the 3 years 36,000 mile warranty my truck has 50,000 mile. ford has lost a long time customer !!! buy american made !!!! thanks ford ex owner of expedition, explorer, thunderbird, cougars, town car, 2 continentals no more fords at my house.....!!!!!!! *tr
Was driving on the expressway at 70-75 mph. suddenly lost power and car started to vibrate. was able to pull over without incident but could have been a bad accident as i was in the passing lane. once i pulled over i notice the wrench light was on which indicates a powertrain problem. the dealer states that it's the electronic throttle body. this vehicle had a similar problem about a year ago. the throttle control module had to be replaced. fortunately at that time the car was still under warranty. with this incident the car is over warranty by 300 miles. *tr
This is the second time this has happened. i came to a stop. the car shuts off completely on its own and was unable to start it up for a period of time in either park or drive. this also happened at approx. 7000 miles. each time i take it to the shop, they are unable to replicate or find any errors within the system, so they refuse to correct or try further diagnostics to replicate the issue. *tr
