While driving my escape i lost all power steering control. error noted was power steering assist fault.
While driving in a variety of circumstances, (in town at stoplight and accelerating on highway) my 2010 ford escape will just shut off. no warning, just dies. i have been to 4 mechanics including one at a ford dealer just today. no codes show, so every time i am basically told that they "can't duplicate issue" and i am sent on my way with no remedy for what is a very dangerous malfunction. i just called ford and started a case number to see what they will do. judging from other comments i have read on internet, i am not hopeful. i cannot understand why a recall wasn't issued and how i am just learning about the scope of the problem now-after spending $20k on this vehicle.
All the warning lights have been persistently coming on since aug. 2019. the speedometer stops working, all the warning lights come on, while driving, i have no clue how fast i'm going??? i can no longer start the car without having to push the thob's security lock buttons to lock/unlock for it to start. i took it to my auto mechanic at sam's auto in waterford, who thought he fixed it no problem, but i drove it off his lot, and its still doing it. that was after several attempts until now. sam and terry think i could be in danger. i spoke to my insurance agent who said i needed to contact you about the recalls on the suv. it's scary, and i've only had this car since 2018 when i bought it. in fact, i am copying this report to my files 12/08/2019, and to send to my insurance company. i don't feel safe in my car, and would like it repaired, so that i can trade it in, or just get rid of it. thank you, i did call you earlier this year about this car. i had been told for sometime by my friends to contact you about this vehicle because of the many recalls. The throttle is messing up.. it keeps stopping and then i turn my car off and start it again then it works. it happened on a busy street and i had my 3 kids with me
While i was driving i heard a click and lost my power steering. it came back and then off again. i had to pull over and turn off my ignition. i waited a few minutes and re-started it, it again kept going back and forth between power and manual steering while driving at 35 mph down back roads to my home.

Water is leaking down the inside of my back liftgate due to a poor seal around the back window. the water is slowly leaking down the liftgate glass and into the body, effecting the electrical system and the motor that opens the trunk. in short, the trunk button attempts to open but the electrical system fails to send a proper signal to the motor to open the door. the vehicle was stationary when i first discovered the issue. i have done extensive research and this seems to be happening to a lot of ford escapes from 2008-2012. ford technicians have even made youtube videos explaining how and why this has happened to a lot of escape models. it all starts with a poor seal surrounding the back window, leading to more problems down the road due to the issue.
Pcm has water damage due to placement under the hood. when the hood is opened water runs down directly onto the unit and into the wiring. the repeated water exposure has caused the unit to fault. this water intrusion causes the vehicle to fail to start intermittently. when turning the ignition, the vehicle will fail to engage the starter; however, headlights, radio are functional. intermittently while operating the vehicle, all of the lights on the instrument cluster illuminate and the tachometer and speedometer will stop reading speed and rmps, resetting to zero. when this occurs it not impair operation of the vehicle. additionally, the steering torque sensor is failing. intermittently, the vehicle will display "power steering assist failure" on the instrument cluster. when this occurs, turning the car on and off repeatedly will temporarily resolve the issue.
The electric assist steering seized up whilst car was in motion and almost caused a wreck. the car has intermittent electrical malfunctions and warning lights flashing and it is getting worse. this happened all at once with very little warning and could have caused a vehicle crash with my 74 year old sickly mother at the wheel. an asce certified master mechanic i trust inspected it after the fact and advised i take the car off the road and search for a factory recall because he had never seen anything like this happen with normal wear. be warned ford escape owners. this could have been fatal at high speeds during a turning maneuver. my mother was driving locally and at speeds under 50 mph
The anti-theft signal keeps coming on in my car. when i am moving and not moving all the warning in my car comes on. the speedometer goes to zero, the gas gage goes to empty, etc with all the other warning lights. i was driving on the highway and all of sudden every single warning light came on. i immediately got off the next exit and parked at a gas station. i turned the car off, but it would not start for about 10 minutes. i finally got it to start and drove quickly to work. i took the car that afternoon to ford service. they said it was my ignition, so they changed the part and charged me over $320. when i drive my car the next morning, it happened again. i took my car to ford again that morning. now they tell me the board that had the electrical parts is corroded, so they changed that and charged over $720. the next day after i took the car home it happened for a quick moment, but then it stopped. today 10/18/17 which is 2 days after i picked my car up from ford service i let my car warm up in the morning for about 10 mins, but when i got in the car all the warning lights came on again. this time the car would not start at all and the anti-theft warning light kept blinking each time. so i had to call a tow truck. so now i have no car, i'm out over $1,000 and i have to get a car rental. and ford service continues to charge each time including a diagnostic test for over $100. i didn't know i had an anti-theft system and i don't need one. there is nothing wrong with the car, but ford service is not able to fix this. i don't feel safe driving the car and i don't know what i am going to do now. in my opinion this is a ford manufacturing problem and i should not be charged to fix this problem. i don't want an anti-theft system. i want my money back. i have pictures for two of the times this happened. although it ...
When you turn on the key to start the car, the light come on, it dings, all that happens, but nothing happens to make it crank/start,. its like there is no battery but everything else is lighting up and dinging, i have to repeat this 3 or 4 times for it to finally start.

Electronic throttle body malfunction. vvehicle developed contamination on the internal motor contacts of the throttle body, resulting in intermittent electrical connectivity. malfunction indicator lamp (mil) and wrench light illuminated and the vehicle may entered failure mode effects management (fmem) otherwise known as "limp home" mode. vehicle lost all acceleration while in motion on a highway as well as on a city street. electronic throttle body was repaired under ford customer satisfaction program #13n03. due to this fact and despite that the etb once again suffered from the same issue, ford refused to repair the etb a second time and all costs fell upon customer.
While at highway speeds, car rmps become erratic and no response from gas peddle. car goes idle and then stalls. vehicle must be restarted. yellow 'wrench' light comes on however once the car is restarted, it is no longer illuminated. no codes available from computer scan.

My car is rusting underneath the wheel suspension. the dealer is trying to make me pay nearly $800.00 to clear up the rust. the paint is also beginning to peel off the whole side of the car.the top molding is coming off the top of the car. my truck was defective and would not open. i paid $140.00 to repair. i paid for a noise in the rear of the car while the car was under warranty of $454.00. i had to pay for power train deductible even though it was a recall item. the dash malfunctioned and the lights went out and i had to pay dealer $100.00. all charges were incurred at taylor ford. the air condition went out last year. the top molding is coming off. i bought the car in summer 2013 with a full factory warranty. the trunk got stuck and would not open in january 2017.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the hazard lights and brake lights did not operate on the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated before or after the failure. the vehicle was taken to ron tirapelli ford (4355 w jefferson st, shorewood, il), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
Been having intermittent starts and all my gauges go off. to be able to start when it doesn't want to i have to hit the lower left side of the steering column and i have to do the same thing when all my gauges go off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 10 mph, the power steering seized and the power steering assist fault warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque and bolt sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
this can happen any time the engine is stop, while park at home, shopping any where the engine is stop . to start the key in inserted to steering column opening and it will not engage properly at times it takes to move back and fort the key while inserted and it will start, this is happening more often now. took the escape to grand prairie ford texas and they said it was the steering column lock module need to be replace plus an alignment total for $787.65 understand that the 2009 escape has the same problem but ford has issued a recall on it but not the 2010, this is rather absurd since the know the problem. now i have the choice to repair or drive until the key no longer works, what a choice, i'm a widower , retired and live on ss, thanks ford.
Takata recall / ford defective product low mileage escape involved in a frontal crash and rear ended another vehicle (2005 accura) and the air bag system failed to deploy. $13,000 escape was totaled. this is unacceptable.
The ignition switch on my vehicle no longer works and has to be replaced. this is a recall for the 2009 ford escape but not the 2010 and ford is telling me i have to pay between $500 and $600 to fix something they know if broken. the advisor even told me that ford is aware it is the exact same parts in the 2009 and 2010 that is broken but ford will not issue a recall until enough people complain about the issue. what kind of crap is that. so i now have a vehicle i am still making payments on because i purchased it preowned and cannot drive it because ford has defective parts in the vehicle and refuses to own up to it until enough people come forward to complain about it. i spoke with an advisor at the five star ford in plano, texas.

My 2010 ford escape has a misfire between the steering or ignition column and the electrical system, the car rides very rough and has lost power steering during driving on a highway, brought into ford dealership and they said no recall for the parts needed to repair, i read thenhtsa reports and read all the facts that happened to my car it said it is the control module and instrument cluster module.. but dealership said no recall.
The rear hatch lock will not release to open, only the window will open. this happens even when all of the locks are open.
Car died 3 different times while in traffic on a 4 lane highway. it's will start running ruff and the wrench light comes on the dash. stop the car, put it park and shut it off for a couple of seconds, then crank it back up, the wrench light is off and it is running fine. the last time it did it, the check engine light came on. took car to tire kindle so they could read the code as the ford dealer was closed. code was throttle control sensor was stuck wide open. this same problem happened about 10,000 back with my wife. the car had about 45,000 miles. she took it.to the ford dealer and they replaced the throttle body as there have been this problem before. this problem should be resolved as it is life threatening by doing this heavy traffic situations.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle became difficult to steer and shook. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster module would need to be replaced. the vehicle was previously serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v4280000 (steering), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the vehicle had experienced no failures before the recall. since the software update, the vehicle experienced issues with the steering. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 129,000.
Driver side rear window would close, an hour later the rear lift gate would not open. there is no way to open the lift gate from inside car, if we were in an accident and needed to get out through the back.
Called ford motor company customer service today regarding a used 2010 ford escape that we bought (from a nissan dealership) yesterday. i researched the vehicle & learned that is a problem with the "electronic throttle body" (etb) in this vehicle. i was also told by the ford csr that there a "redesigned" etb part that is used to replace the original part that is prone to fail suddenly. it also appears that sudden failure of the etb which according to ford is prone to fail could result in sudden stalling and/or reduced power to the car.... which could place the drive (my 16yo son, new driver) in a potentially dangerous and/or life threatening situation while driving. the ford csr acknowledged that, and even after he reportedly discussed my concern with his "manager", informed me that ford would only replace the part "...after it fails". this is unacceptable to me as a consumer & father of my son who will be driving this car. apparently, ford is willing to "gamble" on my son's (and others on the road) safety & health. i called our local ford dealership who informed me the cost of replacing the (prone to fault) ecb with the "redesigned" etb was $386 (=$210 labor + $176 part). it is absolutely unacceptable to me that ford will not, upon request of a ford escape owner, replace at ford's cost ford's acknowledged prone-to-fail etb which can potentially put my son's life at risk. this far exceeds abysmal customer service... apparently ford is willing to take a "known risk & gamble" on the health & safety of those who purchase/drive of their vehicles.
I had turned off the highway and was traveling down a busy road when my car completely stopped without warning. luckily, i was in the right lane and on a bit of a downward slope and was able to steer the "dead" car off the road. i turned off the engine and waited a minute. i turned on the car and it started again. i am concerned as i do a lot of highway driving and if my car suddenly stops like that again, there could be dire consequences. the earliest a dealer can look at my car is january 8th. my local dealer - january 14th. today is december 28th. after reading some of these reports, i am afraid to drive it. meanwhile, i need to rent a car, until someone at a ford dealer is able to look at it this is not the first time this has happened. however, after previously having the car towed to a dealership - i thought the problem was resolved.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 55 mph, the steering wheel shook and became difficult to steer. the power steering fault warning light illuminated and the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and shut off. the vehicle was restarted and the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering assist motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 121,000.
I had been driving, then made a brief stop. when i started my car and put in "drive" to begin driving, my power steering was out. it was very difficult to turn the steering wheel. luckily i was only about 1.5 miles away. i managed to get home but had the car towed to northgate ford in cincinnati, oh the next morning. after 3 days at the dealership, they called to say there was nothing wrong with it. i know that other ford escapes have been recalled for the power steering going out, but checked my vin and mine was not involved......yet! two months later, i took the car in for continuing difficulty with starting (nothing would happen for about 10 turns of the key, then immediately would start) and inability to unlock/lock car with fob despite changing battery. they had to replace the ignition lock cylinder, cylinder module and bolt. suddenly the car both started right away and the remote key fob worked as well.
My fan did not operate on the normal #1 setting but ok on the other settings. when i took it in to repair it i was told a board went out that caused the failure, the cause of that was from condensation from the ac tubing dripping on another board and caused both boards to go out. they had to replace both boards and reroute the ac line so it wouldn't happen again. i paid $954.06 for poor design/construction.
Without any warning or previous issues, my vehicle stalled several times when making turns and approaching stop lights. battery checked out (had just replaced two weeks prior but had it tested again anyways.) at the time the battery was tested, i did not have an engine light on. an hour later a "wrench" light and the engine light came on. i received a computer diagnosis and it came back that the throttle body actuator was bad. i was almost rear ended the first time this happened yesterday morning because i was in the middle of a turn.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the rear hatch door activator latch switch mechanism seized, which prevented the door from opening. in addition, the panel lights failed. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
I heard alert chime, looked at instrument cluster. traction control, wrench, battery, abs, airbag, and brake lights were all on.speedometer, tachometer, and temp gauge were all reading zero, fuel gauge appeared to be working. radio volume speed compensation stopped working, a/c compressor shut down, fan stayed running. driver information center was reading ____miles to e, fuel level low. after a few more minutes, the tire pressure light started flashing, and new message alternated on the driver information center tire pressure monitor fault. then it just as suddenly, went back to normal. now the same thing repeats repeats on and off almost every 5 minutes of driving or so. when i researched this on internet i find this problem is so common there is a company advertising mail order repairs for $199.00 problem is cold solder joints on instrument cluster.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while parked, the ignition was difficult to turn and once it was started the ignition remained stuck in the start position causing the starter to remain engaged. the contact stated that he would have to hit the ignition for it to come out of the starting position. the vehicle would not start on several occasions. while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle started to experience a loss of power as if it would stall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not provided. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 180,000.
Took my car to harrold ford on howe avenue dealership and was told that the car has been worked on and picked up the car and didn't get far and the car stalled. re-started the car and barely made it back home and called harrold ford and told them what had happened and they told me to bring the car back and we had it towed to their facility again and received a call in the afternoon and was told that the car is ready to be picked up and we drive over there and the car stalled after a couple of blocks and had it towed to their facility again and the next day we received a call from harrold ford and told us that there is nothing they can do for us and to pick up my car. " your car is a salvaged title" we took the car home via tow truck and we had a mechanic take a look at the throttle body and he said that it was never replaced! i feel that the couple of times that we drove that car put me and my grandchildren in a great danger and i thank god that we didn't get into an accident and the car only drove 2 blocks and i told harrold ford that we brought my car for recall parts and now my car is not even drivable. totally dead! *tr
My car cut off while i was driving & when i was at a stop light. the car came to a sudden stop in the middle of an intersection (completely losing all power) a large suv swerved to prevent from hitting me. i immediately took the car to the vic bailey ford, they kept my car on & off for 5 days. charging me $98 for a diagnostic test (that they stated revealed nothing about the problem) & then they turned around & charged me #130 for a new battery, the car continued to cut off on me. they kept my car for another 3 days. finally they called me & told me to come pick up the car. the service dept. stated that they didn't know what was wrong w/ the car, but they knew something was wrong w/ it. they told me to wait til the problem got worst. they sent me home w/ a car that cuts off constantly, they don't care that i need to drive a dependable car. i'm an educator/state employee that doesn't have all this money to keep putting my car into the shop & missing days from work. they don't care that i have a young son who rides in that car w/ me to school. they don't care that by driving that car my life & my son life is (was) put in danger. all they saw was a black single mother that they thought they could tell anything to. i have spoken with the service mgr. (no help) ford rep (no help) the customer service mgr. (no help). it is awful, that in 2015 an america woman is treated w/ such disrespect & pushed to the side. ford made this car, they sale this car, so they should be able to fix the car. ford should make reliable cars for the consumer. who is suppose to help when the big vic bailey ford, vic bailey honda, vic bailey ford repair shop, ford motor company, & ford service all do nothing to fix this issue? by putting this information out to the public i hope to make others aware of the treatment that i have received & make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. *tr
2010 ford escape. consumer stated periodically, he had difficulty inserting the key into the ignition. *ta
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer more than twice where it was diagnosed several times that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the technician mentioned that the fuel was not properly circulating within the system which was causing the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The first time this happened i was coming to a stop during rush hour traffic in feb 2014. i was slowing down to stop when i noticed the red battery & wrench light come on. when i tried to accelerate the vehicle wouldn't move & the engine was off. i attempted to restart the vehicle several times with no luck. the dash lights & radio would work but it wouldn't start. i had to be pushed out of traffic. while waiting for the tow truck i tried again & it started (approximately after 15 min). i immediately took it to the ford dealer. they "supposedly" fixed it under a recall. it just happened again (oct 2014) to me while coming to a stop during rush hour. again the lights turned red and the engine died. i attempted to restart several times without any luck. the dash lights & radio worked but it wouldn't start. finally after several attempts it started again. i'm waiting for my appointment with the ford dealer. this issue needs to be reviewed before someone gets seriously hurt given that the engine dies without notice. plus the "repair" didn't work! *tr
