During operation vehicle lost ability to accelerate, all other functions still existed. yellow service ranch appeared on dash had to pull over and put car in park, i don't was very rough turn engine off. after starting car back up all lights were gone, able to drive again. this has now occurred more than 20 times. we have replaced both oxygen sensors, the purge canister and the catalytic converter. still having the same issue. when this happens on large highways or a multilane interstate it becomes a very dangerous situation.
Intermittent rough idle/stalling at traffic lights as well as hesitation when accelerating at all speeds. throttle body replaced under extended warranty when issue first presented last year; symptoms persist without check engine light; independent mechanic unable to diagnose/reproduce issue. issue has been occurring for the last twelve months without resolution.
Electronic throttle body issue. car stalls intermittently when accelerating at intersection. very dangerous. check engine light comes on code p2112. issue happens without warning and car starts again after stall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor in the vehicle and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the fuel valve remained opened and evaporated. the dealer (commercial motor company, 160 s commercial st, aransas pass, tx 78336) informed the contact that the fuel odor would not affect the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 125,897.
Lee auto sales lied to me. they said nothing is wrong with the vehicle. after purchasing the vehicle i found a bunch of defects.
The vehicle stalls when idling, even if only for seconds and surges forward randomly while traveling on the roadway. it has stalled on me up to 8-10 times in one trip from scottsdale to phoenix. it will stall rolling to a stop as well and has stalled on busy roadways and in intersections, putting me in great danger. this has been reported t hundreds of other drivers with the same vehicle and so far no mechanic or even the ford dealership can pin point the cause. other people have been reporting this same issue with their cars with only 30,000 miles and others have reprted that the car stalls at highway speeds and i am now afraid it will escalate.
The 2010 to 2012 has a recall involving the fuel system leaking. my vehicle is also leaking fuel every time the tank is filled (no, we do not "top off"), and the fumes are noticeable in and out of the vehicle. this has been happening since approximately 90,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor from the vehicle and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the fuel valve remained opened and evaporated. in addition, the contact observed a leak from the rear driver side from the upper fuel tank where there was a fracture. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 192,000.
Was accelerating after coasting to slow down for a turn on city streets. engine stalled out and service, oil, and battery lights all illuminated on the panel. vehicle lost all power and had to coast to a stop. put it in park, turned off and restarted with no issue. this is the 5th time this has happened in the last 18 months, all in simliar scenarios where accelerating after coasting.
Electronic throttle body: driving down the highway the vehicle lost power, i was able to avoid traffic and make it safely to the side of the road. after a few minutes i was able to restart the vehicle and continue on. a few days later this happened again, fortunately on a less crowded street.
Purchased used 2009 escape in april 2016. check engine light on and gas leaks over tire well when the tank is filled all the way. took it in and upon smoke test dealership stated the top of the tank is rusted with pinholes. trying to charge me $1600 to repair with the filler piece. not disclaimed upon purchase. car was inspected prior to purchase.
This happens in all conditions. engine will lose power and start stuttering like it is missing. exhaust will stink and darken enough so that it is visible. accelerator will not work as normal. vehicle will eventually stall as service light comes on. fuel pump replaced twice in 2 days. mechanics find no codes stored. throttle body replaced under ford customer service program. it reoccurred the next day. this needs to be recalled and fixed. the vehicle will slow and stall suddenly and is a safety issue.
Gas tank. lots of corrosion where filler neck connects to the gas tank. when gas tank is full gas leaks from the corrosion point. vehicle was parked in my garage when i noticed a strong gas odor. i moved the vehicle to the driveway and noticed a wet spot on the garage floor that reeked of gas. the spot corresponds to the area below the gas tank filler. i'm concerned the leaking gas is an environmental hazard and also concerned the leaking gas may ignite causing a fire and possible explosion. help!!!
Vehicle no power and surging.
Please see this clip on youtube that explains our issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucusqj3-evk my vehicle, without warning will lose power and the wrench light appears. same thing, mechanic has no clue. why can't ford figure this out. it's dangerous. my wife has stalled several times in traffic. what can be done? thank you! *tr
Wrench light keep coming on in motion
My ford escape has intermittent stalling or seems like loss of power, car will stay on but seem like it wants to stall. if trying to give it gas it does not respond. once turned off and then on again it works like normal until it happens again. it can happen at take off or while on the freeway going with the speed of traffic all of a sudden. at first i thought it was nothing but as time has passed it has become more regular and now i am having to get it repaired.
The vehicle has been leaking fuel since feb. 2016 the engine light came on and i've replaced the evap. canister due to the leak, the seal with it as well, and the canister purge valve. all this work was done at 2 different ford dealerships. i was still leaking fuel and wrote to ford who told me to take it to the dealership and they would fix it gratis. at the dealership they told me it was the gasket going into the tank and that "should" take care of the problem. it didn't. gas fumes still filled my car, and leaked gas all over the ground wherever i drove or parked. i returned to the dealership and told them i was still leaking fuel, but no engine light as in the last visit. they could smell it and see it had soaked the rear end of my vehicle. this time the mechanic told me there is a plastic ring around the top of the tank that was cracked and i would have to replace the whole tank and system for approximately $1000 additional on top of what i had already replaced. i asked him how all these mechanics could miss this?? and how can it crack if it's so tight in there unless the vehicle had been in an accident or is there a design flaw, or a failure of the part itself because of some problem in manufacturing. the car leaks while parked, in motion, and fills with gas fumes. i am terrified i may hit a pot hole and blow up. myself i don't mind, but i have my 2yo grandson with me and that is just scary as all get out. and there is no engine light that comes on for this. he tells me the part seals as the system compresses when starting and the gas expands with heat that's why the overflow.that may explain some, but i lose a tank of gas every 2-4 days. if the break is at the top how is the gas leaving my tank in such extraordinary amounts? and the only people who serviced that car were ford "mechanics".computer illiterate for uploads, but i have documentation& pics
I had my evap canister leak which i paid to have replaced approximately 100 miles ago on this vehicle due to a gas leak. now i've been told they have to replace the seal because it is leaking fuel around this evap canister and it's a "closed" system. they claim the seal blew because of the system when they put in the new evap canister. they offered to do this for an additional $178.60 at ford's quick lane service. when they replaced the evap canister why didn't they redo the seal then? they claim it didn't show on the codes in the computer. yet the gas smell never went away and i found gas under my vehicle everyday from before and since the "repair" of the evap canister. i was away and when i returned i called them and took it in and that's when i was given this information. they also tell me other internal seals can also go when they change this evap canister. i get the "privilege" of paying them each time they do a repair twice! one for whatever they replaced the evap canister which they swear was the only problem and then when it didn't reseal the system the seal blew. i find it very hard to believe they couldn't have seen or known about this seal from this happening before. and even if they didn't or couldn't, why wasn't the seal replaced as a precaution to their sealed system. my vehicle is a 2009 ford escape, and it has been in their shop for more repairs than i care to remember. every time they fix one problem another one miraculously appears within 100 miles or so.
Throttle body assembly failed causing the vehicle to idle during driving mode. the vehicle would "limp along" without any response to pressing down the accelerator. turning the vehicle off and then starting it again would correct the problem for a while until it occurred again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. while exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed fuel leaking from the tank. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel tank was rusted. in addition, it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 121,000.
Car sputtered out as i pulled into traffic.
the first two times the problem happened were immediately after backing out of my driveway, going to work. i put the transmission in drive and accelerated. almost immediately the car lost power and slowed--putted along as if it were running on 2 cylinders. i stopped, turned off the engine and waited perhaps 20-30 seconds, then restarted the engine. then engine then ran fine, and i continuted on my way. yesterday, however, the problem struck 3 times as i was driving home from work. each time, i tried the above response, and it worked--for a short time. i live about 4 miles from work, and the problem arose 3 times in the approx. 15 minutes it takes to drive home. my wife mentioned that the problem struck when she was driving the car the day before.
Vehicle stalled and went into "limp-home" mode after accelerating from a stopped condition.("limp-home" mode is a mode programmed by ford engineers to only allow the vehicle to move forward under limited power, generally only 1-2 mph.) i later found out that this was due to a faulty electronic throttle body. the vehicle then stalled an additional two times about two weeks apart from the first incident. i was able to use my own obd ii code scanner to detect the error code p2111. i found out that this component was determined to be faulty and ford motor corporation issued an extended warranty coverage for this component. however, ford will only replace this part if they are able to document the error code themselves on their code scanner. the problem lies in the design of this vehicle in that it won't store this particular code. when the vehicle stalls, the only course of action is to turn off the ignition and turn it back on in hopes of resetting the trhottle body. this works but it cancels the error code. the driver is forced to employ this technique to continue their travel or faced with the option of waiting for ford to come and scan for the code themselves. if this happens after normal work hours, this of course is not an option. the fact that this error code erases itself in an attempt to get the vehicle moving again is a catch 22 situation and one that ford should correct. i was forced to purchase my own replacement throttle body since ford would not replace it.
Driving to work which is about 2 miles from where i am located at. my car suddenly loses power, the radio is still working, a/c is still working as well as the engine but i was not getting no acceleration at all and to top it all off, my steering wheel locked on me and 3 lights on the dashboard illuminated: wrench light, oil and engine light. i got the engine light fixed the other week as well as an oil change several weeks back and the wrench was the first for me. i done some research and i see that i am not the only customer with a ford escape with this problem. i called different mechanics, some say its the alternator or it could be the throttle body, but either way i am screwed because ford charges an arm and a leg to fix the problem, but does not refund you if the problem continues to persist. i called my local ford dealership in ft. myers, fl and they told me to make an appointment and pay a $100 for a diagnostic too see what the problem could be, my issue is that i am afraid that i can not even make it to the dealership and i end up in an accident or i pay a $100 for them too tell me that there is nothing wrong with my car(something ford is known for). i hope something is getting done with this problem, if not ford is going to lose its customers and if so i am going to switch over to dodge.
Driving to work this morning at 70 mph in the far left lane, car again suddenly loses power, slows way down, no response when pushing on gas pedal and the wrench light was on again. turned on hazards and had to cross 4 lanes of heavy morning commuting traffic to get off the freeway. as i stopped the car, again it acted like it was going to stall out. put the car in park and turned off the motor. turned the car back on, which didn't fire up as usual, but it did restart. put the car in drive and drove to work without incident. i am scared to drive this car anymore! people on the freeway were not willing to slow down to let me over, the kept flying around me. i called two dealerships and explained what was happening and both said they would have to charge me to diagnose the problem regardless of the reported throttle body issues. they told me if the problem didn't happen when they test drove my car or if the code didn't come up that there was nothing they could do for me. i would just have to hope it wouldn't happen again!? *tr
Started accelerating as i was approaching the freeway entrance, suddenly lost power. pushed down on gas pedal and felt no response in acceleration. turned on hazards and crossed two lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. as i stopped to put the car in park, the car seemed jerky like it was about to stall. put the car in park, tuned off the engine. restarted the car, it didn't fire up right away as it usually does, however it did start. put the car in drive and drove home without further incident that day. *tr
I drive a 2009 ford escape which has been meticulously maintained and is in excellent shape. in march of 2015 i began to notice that puddles of gasoline were appearing under my vehicle. i took it to the dealer immediately and was informed that the fuel tank had rusted through and was leaking. this is arguably one of the most serious safety hazards that can be found on a vehicle, especially for one that is only 6 years old. ford should have adequate measures in place to prevent rust on such a crucial part of the vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that the fuel cap warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel cap malfunctioned and the transmission developed a leak. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
September 10 2014, vehicle was serviced at henry curtis ford in petaluma california for recall 14s05. prior to this recall, we had no problems with our vehicle. october 3 2014, vehicle stalled at 65 mph driving on highway. my wife was driving up hill on the highway in the far right lane and was able to pull off the highway to the shoulder. vehicle towed to repair shop, unable to find any error codes. vehicle towed to henry curtis ford dealership in petaluma california where the vehicle was purchased new in 2008. a $145 diagnostic was done and only one error code was reported by the dealer. code b1239 ( air flow blend door driver circuit failure). vehicle could be driven as there were no check engine lights on at that time. we picked up the vehicle from henry curtis ford, and drove home. october 10 2014. rpm's shifting up and down while driving on the highway at 65mph. had vehicle towed to repair shop in san francisco. serviced and replaced parts for b1239 error. mechanic test drove vehicle and now another error code displays code p2112. p2112 ford - throttle actuator control system error. the mechanic is replacing the throttle body and reprogramming the pcm. i called the ford dealership and was told my vin is not covered under any recalls for p2112. when i asked about consumer satisfaction program 13n03, i was told my vin is not included. we had no problems with the vehicle prior to bringing it in for the recall 14s05. now after that service we are having several problems and i have read that other vehicle owners are also having the same p2112 error. ford should include our vehicle in this problem and see if the other two incidents we have are related some how. everyone i spoke to at ford did not want to help, but continue to charge me more diagnostic charges and repair. thankfully we have an honest mechanic that is helping us out. *tr
Vehicle stalled about 2 weeks ago. oil change light and low tire pressure light came on a week later. had maintenance done a week later. i was not notified about any recalls. noticed that the steering wheel was really loose after rotate and balance was done. took car to dealership and reported issue with steering. dealership stated that it may need alignment but could not do service until next week. put gas in car and vehicle stalled. battery and oil light came on. after a few more times was able to get it started. stalled again stalled again at stop light. made it to auto parts shop and put fuel injection fluid in tank. car stalled. finally started again. made it to repair shop. did diagnostic tests no codes reported. they examined the fuel and it was good. they guessed that the fuel pump may need replacing. i researched recalls on my vin and found that there are 2 recalls on the vehicle that were never performed. purchased vehicle in may. never received recall notices. repair shops and dealerships are not checking for recalls when diagnosing problems. *tr
At 35 mph and for no apparent reason, engine started sputtering and did not respond to pressing on gas pedal. in less than one minute the engine quit running altogether. i turned off ignition key and waited a few seconds and tried restarting the engine. it restarted and ran properly afterwards. called local ford dealer and described problem and they said it was a problem with the electronic throttle body - about an $800 repair. went on line to research problem and found out there are tens of thousands of complaints about this problem yet ford has done and is doing nothing about it. my '09 escape has only a little over 36,000 miles on it. luckily i wasn't pulling out into or driving in heavy traffic when this thing went out. i hope ford doesn't wait until someone gets seriously injured or worse before they correct & recall vehicles for this problem. ford says you have enough "power" left to get over to safety but you really don't. *tr
Vehicle suddenly looses power and idles hard. repeatedly over the past month when trying to accelerate from a stop vehicle will loose all engine power. the vehicle will still move forward as if it was in gear without your foot on the gas/brake. i was almost t-boned when trying to make a left turn in the middle of an intersection and when i went to accelerate suddenly i had no power. i have to turn the engine off then start the vehicle again and it will work just fine. the check engine light comes on once the vehicle looses power but once you turn the car off and turn it back on it is gone. *tr
Had car set on cruise control, felt a pop or a snap under car, looked down and cruise went off and i was coasting, i had my foot in the gas and the rpm's were at 1000, gas was not revving and the rpm's didn't move, coasted to side of road. the engine sputtered as if it was going to shut off, but it didn't. i shut the car off and restarted it and it was fine, until 3 days later when it happened again. have taken it to a ford dealer 3 times and they claim that it is not tripping a code and that they can't replace the throttle body until they have a code. i don't know what else to do, i have been driving a loaner car since last friday and they still haven't been able to recreate the incident. *tr
p2111, throttle actuator control system stuck open, i had to drive to an auto zone to get this code while the car was in this condition. otherwise these was no error code recorded. the engine run at an idle and will not accelerate when accelerator is depressed. *js
Throttle body emissions sensor. eec test codes for throttle position sensors a & b. check engine light started to come on and go off periodically. had is checked out at multiple places over the next year and now is over 80,000 and ford refuses to cover under warranty. *tr
As i tried to accelerate the vehicle went into a limp mode. i had no response from the accelerator pedal. the vehicle would move forward at a idle speed. yellow wrench light came on. after engine was turned off and restarted vehicle ran as normal for a few days and it happened again. *tr
On friday, november 1, i was driving to work when suddenly the escape failed to accelerate. the wrench light appeared. i coasted to the right turn lane then stopped. turned the escape off, waited a few seconds and then tried starting it. it started but the entire vehicle shook. i was able to get the escape to crawl to a parking lot. i turned it back off and waited a few minutes longer. after about ten minutes, i tried starting it and it seemed to run just fine. on monday, november 4, i had a repeat of this. we had the repair shop tow it in, fearing that it would die in traffic and cause an accident. the car dealer says it was the throttle body. *tr
This has happened twice now. i have been driving my car and all of a sudden i loose gas power, but my brakes and steering still works fine. i have to pull over to the side of the road and come to a complete stop. while at a complete stop i can feel my car/ engine making a jerking "thudding" noise/ motion. i then turn my car off and take my key out of the ignition for the a couple of minutes. after letting the car sit i out my key back in and try to start it. but the car hesitates to start, it cranks for a while and then eventually turns over and starts. when i begin driving again after the incident i can feel that my car is not driving the same. both times it has occurred i was driving two completely different speeds. *tr
While driving my 2009 ford escape (v6) home from work, my car lost acceleration. the engine was still running, the lights still worked, radio on, power steering, but i had no acceleration response from the gas pedal. i was able to coast my car onto a side road without incident, and noticed the service light was on before turning my car off (wrench symbol). i waited for a few moments, and tried to restart the car. to my surprise, the car started up immediately, and i was able to drive home without further issue. i took the car to a local auto shop to have the computer checked to see if the error was still in the system, but it was already cleared. two weeks later, while driving home from a vacation weekend, the car did the same thing, except this time i was driving on the highway at 70mph, three hours from home with my son in the back seat. to say i was rattled would be an understatement. i was able to get to the side of the highway, turn the car off, restart the car and rejoin traffic. roughly 1 hour later, the same thing happened. i immediately took the car to the nearest ford dealership and dropped the car off for inspection and service. the dealer was able to pinpoint the issue to the electronic throttle body, and determined it needed to be replaced. $375 and 24 hours later the car was fixed. no issues after having the car back in my possession for two weeks. i wanted to issue an official complaint, and express my dissatisfaction with ford motor company for knowing about this safety issue, and dragging their feet on issuance of a recall. the delphi manufactured component was known to be flawed, and had issued a technical service bulletin (tsb) 09-23-5, and re-engineered the component. i am a loyal ford driver, but i fear ford's lack of ethical conduct on this issue may be cause for reconsideration of future purchases. *tr
We have been having issues with the car since august of 2013. the car would lose power while driving slowing down to a crawl without notice. this issue happened about 5 times since that occurrence. car has been in the shop 5 times since that time with about $2000 in repair bills that included engine work, new battery, new alternator, etc. the car was towed each time to mongos auto repair in cinnaminson nj. on this occurrence i did a google search and found that this model is having common problems as per the above and the throttle body needs to be replaced to repair the issue. mongos checked and there was a recall by ford to repair this issue. we never received a recall notice from ford. we were informed it would have been covered under the drive train warranty if the car had 60,000 miles or less. my wife drives the vehicle and was put into very dangerous situations due to this faulty defect in manufacturing. can i contact someone about never receiving the recall and get reimbursed for the $2000 in repairs plus the new bill to replace the throttle body? *tr
I was driving on interstate 71 in ohio when my car lost power totally, it had to be flat-bed towed to mansfield ford where i was told there was a problem with the throttle body. this was very dangerous and frightening to me, now i am afraid to travel in this vehicle. i had to pay 474.00 to repair, which i think ford should reimburse. *tr
While in the left lane of a 3 lane highway (bishop ford) i was traveling about 65 mph then accelerating to 72 mph the car made a jerk ( felt like the transmission) then there was no acceleration and the wrench light came on. i tried to push the gas and nothing. i slowly moved to the emergency lane which was very dangerous because the average speed on this highway is about 70 and i had to crossover 2 lanes and at this point the car was less than 40 mph. no one wants to slow down to let you over. i had my 2 yr old in the car at the time so i was very nervous about getting hit by another vehicle. i turned off the car and the restarted and it and drove ok without this happening again. this jerk motion has happened several times and when i had it checked at the dealer while under warranty they could not find anything wrong because it did not do it when they drove the car. anytime i had a complaint while under warranty they could not find anything wrong with the car. this is a hazard and to know so many complaints have been made and nothing has been done by ford..................................anyone?s death by this will be on their hands. *tr
Started to accelerate and the car just has no power to go. engine runs but touching the gas does nothing. engine runs around 1k rpm's. the wrench light comes on. if you can live to turn the vehicle off and restart, the light goes out and the vehicle works fine. seems like a lot of owners are having this problem. this is a life threatening problem. *tr
While driving at highway speed i lost acceleration. suv shook then lost speed quickly. was able to pull onto off road. wrench lite on dash. i turned off suv then restarted and lite went away. drove to next turn off so i could turn around to head home. samething happened on way home but after restarting suv the wrench lite changed to engine service lite. was able to get home from there. took for service which concluded electronic throttle body was dirty so it cleaned. was able to drive for about 20 days when issues accrued again. throttle body needed replaced. *tr
After waiting at a red light, my vehicle travelled about 100 yards. the engine shuttered, accelerator pedal was unresponsive, and the engine rpms dropped to 900. i pulled to the side of the road and turned off the car then restarted it. everything was fine, except for my confidence, for the next 6 miles. while driving 45 mph, the engine shuttered, wrench light and check engine light illuminated, and rpms immediately dropped. same unresponsive accelerator pedal. i then put the car in neutral and coasted to a side road. i turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes, enough time to call my wife and let her know to be ready to come pick me up if my car wouldn't make it home. i restarted the car and 7 miles later i was home with no problems. i have not been to a mechanic or called ford or anything of that nature as this has just occurred within the last couple of hours.
Car started shuttering while maintaining a constant speed. car was taken to the dealership and i was told that it was not covered under warranty, throttle body was the problem and the part was replaced.
While exiting a parking lot at low speed, the vehicle shut down completely. the vehicle was restarted a few minutes later with no apparent problems. the dealer diagnosed a faulty throttle body and replaced the part.
While driving the 2009 ford escape down highway, experienced a brief lurch then complete and immediate loss of throttle control. engine speed decreased to approx. 1000 rpm making it impossible to continue driving and forcing an emergency stop on shoulder. while stopped on shoulder, engine was completely unresponsive to throttle, and remained roughly idling at 1k rpms. shut off engine, and restarted the vehicle. after restarting, throttle control appeared to be working normally. there were no obvious symptoms immediately prior to the failure: engine appeared to be running fine, and throttle control was working normally until the incident. the unexpected loss of throttle control and corresponding decrease in vehicle speed was disorienting, and could have easily resulted in an unsafe situation or accident if surrounding traffic were heavier or driver had panicked. vehicle was diagnosed by dealer as having a "failing throttle body". codes retrieved were p2111 and p2135, and pinpoint tests showed that "the throttle actuator control motor is failing". throttle body assembly was replaced. *tt
Driving down the street and the wrench light came on all of a sudden. then my car dies. put it in park then started it and as i tried to accelerate the car started to jerk then died. i repeated this till i got to the nearest repair shop and after $600 later found out it was the throttle body sensor. ford won't sell the plastic sensor by itself, you have to buy the whole aluminum unit at $400! plus labor! i will never do business with ford again! horrible quality parts. the worst part is i had my 11 year old son in the car when this happened. *tr
