We have classified the 110 complaints from 2009 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I have the 2009 ford escape, i noticed about a month ago that the only way i could start the car was to push the key in really hard. at first, it would start after one hard push but gradually it got worse. it got to the point to where i would have to push harder and harder to get it started. now after returning from the authorized ford service department to fix a recall electrical issue it seems to be worse, it doesn't start on the first try and then you have to push hard and upwards and it can take 5 or more times to get it to start.. i switched to my spare key, thinking the original might be worn. it did start easier the first few times but now it's back to almost not starting at all, and takes a few tries, again you have to have the key just right or push just exactly for it to start. it has taken up to 15 minutes to get it right sometimes. when the car does start there is a burning electrical smell that is emitted from the vents. i'm worried each time i shut it off that it might not start again, leaving me stranded somewhere. really? my ford escape is only 5 years old, this should not be happening! i have read many other owners having the same issue, this should be a recall as well. *tr
September 10 2014, vehicle was serviced at henry curtis ford in petaluma california for recall 14s05. prior to this recall, we had no problems with our vehicle. october 3 2014, vehicle stalled at 65 mph driving on highway. my wife was driving up hill on the highway in the far right lane and was able to pull off the highway to the shoulder. vehicle towed to repair shop, unable to find any error codes. vehicle towed to henry curtis ford dealership in petaluma california where the vehicle was purchased new in 2008. a $145 diagnostic was done and only one error code was reported by the dealer. code b1239 ( air flow blend door driver circuit failure). vehicle could be driven as there were no check engine lights on at that time. we picked up the vehicle from henry curtis ford, and drove home. october 10 2014. rpm's shifting up and down while driving on the highway at 65mph. had vehicle towed to repair shop in san francisco. serviced and replaced parts for b1239 error. mechanic test drove vehicle and now another error code displays code p2112. p2112 ford - throttle actuator control system error. the mechanic is replacing the throttle body and reprogramming the pcm. i called the ford dealership and was told my vin is not covered under any recalls for p2112. when i asked about consumer satisfaction program 13n03, i was told my vin is not included. we had no problems with the vehicle prior to bringing it in for the recall 14s05. now after that service we are having several problems and i have read that other vehicle owners are also having the same p2112 error. ford should include our vehicle in this problem and see if the other two incidents we have are related some how. everyone i spoke to at ford did not want to help, but continue to charge me more diagnostic charges and repair. thankfully we have an honest mechanic that is helping us out. *tr
Vehicle has had issues with the dashboard gauges locking up while driving, took to ford dealership and they could not identify cause of issue. if i hit the dash it gauges would start to work again. when gauges were not working, a/c would stop working as well. most concerning is the last two days my car has stopped accelerating while driving it, i can put the gas all the way to the floor and it still won't accelerate. during that time a/c stops blowing cool air and if i apply my brakes the entire car will start to shake as if it is going to die. i turn off the car and restart it and it runs fine, however it does take a sec longer to turn over when i start it at that point. i am taking it to have it looked at today. i have had multiple repairs to this vehicle pertaining to the sensors. *tr
First sign of problem occurred in august 2014 when i put keys in ignition it would not allow me to start car. it was locked, or frozen up. i tried to move steering wheel but could barely move it. after about 5 to 7 minutes of trying to turn wheel, it unlocked and i was able to start vehicle. next problem occurred in early september when turning wheel to back into parking space, it froze up and locked. i slowly turned wheel until it kind of unlocked. the next time the steering wheel froze was in late september. while making a right hand turn, i lost my power steering briefly. i was able to get off the road and parked for a minute or two before starting back on the drive home. it was unnerving to feel like i had no power over the car. as of yesterday, october 4th, the steering wheel vibrates when vehicle is idle. i came home from work, parked it and have not driven it since. *tr
Driving when suddenly check engine light flashed, battery light, and oil light all blinked after which engine was running but unable to accelerate. was able to pull off to side of road placed in park again tried to rev engine nothing happened. turned car off then turned back on and car ran as usual check engine light remains on taking to dealership tomorrow. *tr
Ford claims they have a customer satisfaction program (13n03) to address problems with the engine throttle body and that customers who come into dealerships will be able to have the powertrain control module software reprogrammed to protect the throttle body. the problem is- ford will not honor this program unless the error shows on their diagnosis computer. i had this exact problem happen to me and the error did not show up on the ford diagnosis computer so ford will not fix this problem on my vehicle. as i was pulling out of a driveway and started to accelerate, my 2009 ford escape just completely lost all acceleration. the wrench light came on the dashboard, indicating an error. i could not get the car to drive above 2 - 3 mph. i took the car into the ford dealership the next day, but their computer diagnosis machine did not show the problem. i was told that since i had powered off my car after the error occurred, the error was cleared from memory and would not show up on the computer diagnosis machine. if the computer did not show that my vehicle had that error, ford would not fix the throttle body. who can drive a car 20 miles to the nearest ford dealership when the car can only go 2 - 3 mph???. this is a major safety issue! i am very concerned that this will happen to me again when i am on a busy highway with my family in the car! what if this happens when i am driving on an interstate and i am unable to safely get off the road? since this has already happened to me, i know that my vehicle has this problem and it is only a matter of time before it happens again. how many people will have to be killed before something is done about this major safety issue???? *tr
Accelerating from a traffic stop. taking a right turn, car rumbled and could not accelerate. car went from 5mph and drop down to 3mph, the wrench light went on. stopped at side of road and engine still running. drove a little more and engine still rumbling and would not accelerate. *tr
Power steering goes out without any warnings. can be out if you turn the car on. if you turn the car off and you start it again the power steering may come back on. most of the time you have to disconnect the battery and reconnect this usually will fix the problem for a day than you have to disconnect the battery again. the power steering has also gone out during driving as well. i feel that this is a huge safety hazard is may cause accidents. *tr
We driving at highway speed when all electric components went out. we could not steer. fortunately it was a straight road and no nearby traffic. we stopped the car and restarted and it worked. we were petrified! a later incident the wipers would only work on high speed. they returned to normal after restarting the car. *tr
I was on hov lane on lie driving to my parents. as i was coming off to reg lane, my engine stalled. fortunately, the other car was far away able to stop. i changed gear into park and restarted the car. *tr
Im driving ,then , the vehicle start to stop . and no have power to continue . i shoot off the ignition and put on again and continue my travel. *tr
Our 2009 ford escape has lost it's power steering, while i was driving, twice this week. it was nearly impossible to control the vehicle, yet it was still running. it is electric power steering so there is nothing that can be done to prevent it (i initially thought my power steering fluid must be low). the first time it happened, on friday, i had it towed to my mechanic. nothing showed up on the dashboard at the time and nothing showed up on his scanners. when the truck was started again the steering worked fine. we decided it must be a fluke. we only have 85,505 miles on the vehicle. it just happened to me again, while i was driving. my husband was supposed to drive to our friend's house north of boston (we are south of boston). he cancelled. it terrifies me to think of what might have happened to him at high speed on those highways. we got on the internet and discovered this is a very common problem in 2008 & 2009 ford escapes. it turns out the entire steering column needs to be replaced to fix the problem, average cost is $1500. ford is aware of this dangerous life safety problem yet has not issued a recall. do people really need to die first? *tr
I was stopped waiting at a red light at the top of a very steep hill. the light changed to green and i let my foot off the brake and went to push the gas and my ford escape lost all power and stalled. the battery light and oil light came on as it stalled and i started rolling backwards down the steep hill. i had no ability to steer the car and i also didn't have any brakes, i tried to slam the brakes as we were accelerating more quickly downhill but i had no control. in a matter of seconds my suv veered off the road and hit a brake wall and at that impact my entire vehicle flies over onto the drivers side and stopped. the side airbags deployed and i was unable to open any doors. a passing car stopped and helped my son and i out of the back hatch. *tr
Vehicle suddenly lost power and slowed down. symptoms match what others report to be a bad throttle body which ford has changed design of. has happened twice now. ford says we have to pay for this repair but it sounds like it should be a recall. *tr
While driving my 2009 ford escape (v6) home from work, my car lost acceleration. the engine was still running, the lights still worked, radio on, power steering, but i had no acceleration response from the gas pedal. i was able to coast my car onto a side road without incident, and noticed the service light was on before turning my car off (wrench symbol). i waited for a few moments, and tried to restart the car. to my surprise, the car started up immediately, and i was able to drive home without further issue. i took the car to a local auto shop to have the computer checked to see if the error was still in the system, but it was already cleared. two weeks later, while driving home from a vacation weekend, the car did the same thing, except this time i was driving on the highway at 70mph, three hours from home with my son in the back seat. to say i was rattled would be an understatement. i was able to get to the side of the highway, turn the car off, restart the car and rejoin traffic. roughly 1 hour later, the same thing happened. i immediately took the car to the nearest ford dealership and dropped the car off for inspection and service. the dealer was able to pinpoint the issue to the electronic throttle body, and determined it needed to be replaced. $375 and 24 hours later the car was fixed. no issues after having the car back in my possession for two weeks. i wanted to issue an official complaint, and express my dissatisfaction with ford motor company for knowing about this safety issue, and dragging their feet on issuance of a recall. the delphi manufactured component was known to be flawed, and had issued a technical service bulletin (tsb) 09-23-5, and re-engineered the component. i am a loyal ford driver, but i fear ford's lack of ethical conduct on this issue may be cause for reconsideration of future purchases. *tr
As i was driving and the cruise control was set the road i was traveling had slight hills. it seems as though when the car went to down shift and speed up is when it lost power and went into limp mode. the last occurrence was on 10-17-13 while i was driving on a flat road. i had to brake for traffic when i went to accelerate is when it lost power and went into limp mode. *tr
Driving and vehicle kept acting like it was stalling while trying to drive. knew that the gas was not low, so wasn't sure what the issue was. made it to destination and called mechanic. brought it in to the shop, still with intermittent stalling while driving. ran a test and said that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open - this has seemed to be a problem with ford escape vehicles. got it fixed with no incidents, but could have been worse. *tr
Faulty electronic throttle body vehicle lost power twice while my wife was driving home - extremely dangerous situation. engine remained running but all power lost. had vehicle towed to ford in hopes the repair would be covered under extended powertrain warranty or via technical service bulletin. no . . . . this is astounding to me - a quick google search will tell you there are many issues with this part across multiple ford models. this was a $340 repair, for a faulty part, and one which puts people in potentially extreme danger. please conclude your investigation asap. *tr
After waiting at a red light, my vehicle travelled about 100 yards. the engine shuttered, accelerator pedal was unresponsive, and the engine rpms dropped to 900. i pulled to the side of the road and turned off the car then restarted it. everything was fine, except for my confidence, for the next 6 miles. while driving 45 mph, the engine shuttered, wrench light and check engine light illuminated, and rpms immediately dropped. same unresponsive accelerator pedal. i then put the car in neutral and coasted to a side road. i turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes, enough time to call my wife and let her know to be ready to come pick me up if my car wouldn't make it home. i restarted the car and 7 miles later i was home with no problems. i have not been to a mechanic or called ford or anything of that nature as this has just occurred within the last couple of hours.
Driving along and the vehicle kept slowing down, kept pushing on accelerator but stopped going. got off the road and shut down and restarted, vehicle ran okay. this happened three times. dealer says the electronic throttle body needs replaced. *tr
The throttle body on my 2009 ford escape failed while entering a public interstate via an on ramp. the failure occurred while accelerating. the effect was the vehicles engine was shut off, causing a rapid deceleration on a fairly busy on ramp. i was able to pull my car over to the side. placed it in park, turned key off and back on, and was able to resume my 8 mile commute to work. later, while driving the vehicle, the same issue occurred twice within a fifteen mile period - both times while accelerating, the engine shut off in traffic. three times in one day, had not seen this issue ever prior to last week. i took the car to the dealership where they diagnosed it as a failed throttle body. the car has been in the shop since 9/4. today i was contacted and told the part was on nation wide backorder, and wasn't expected until 10/31. internet forums suggest there are thousands of vehicles awaiting this part right now. having the engine unpredictably shut off is a potentially dangerous situation to have while driving. there is a known issue within ford and their dealer network, but to date, no recall has been issued. the delay in parts accessibility is dangerous, and could result in people driving their vehicles with this condition while awaiting the parts arrival. *tr
On the morning of sept 4, 2013- i was making a turn at about 20 miles an hour. i had just about completed the turn when i was engaging the gas peddle to continue on, but the car was running and it wasn't going. i was able to coast off the road. i turned the car off. i started the car back up and had power from the peddle again, so i proceeded up the street only to have the same thing happen to me again, as i was turning at the next very busy intersection. i was lucky that there happened to be a gas station on the right side of the road. i pulled in and turned the car off. i contacted the ford dealership where i purchased my car to have them come tow my vehicle, and verify the reason for the incidents. i was informed that it is the throttle body, and it will need to be replaced. the part is on back order, but i am paying an extra fee to have it expedited. i am very lucky that on both times this happened, another vehicle was not right behind me, because i would have been rear ended and possibly injured. *jb
While driving on the expressway at 70 mph the rpm dropped to approx. 900rpm. pushing on the accelerator pedal didn't do anything. a indicator light on the dash came on it is the shape of a wrench. i had to pull the vehicle off the road. after i parked on the side of the road i shut off the engine and waited about 30 seconds then restarted the engine and everything was working fine. i went back onto the road and drove approx. 12 miles and it happened again. i repeated what i had done earlier and the vehicle was ok again. i got back on the road and i made it around 8 miles and i had another occurrence, again i repeated the shut off the engine on the side of the road and it again started and ran ok. then i made it home! *tr
Vct solenoids and cam sensors are faulty. the vehicle stalls randomly, engine lags and exibits poor fuel mpg. the problem occured just out of warranty and upon research; i have discovered this issue is very vast with 2009-2011 ford escapes, mercury mariners, 2010-2011 ford fusion and mercury milan vehicles equipped with the 3.0l engine and built on or before 3-1-2011. my 2009 ford escape and many others vehicles should be recalled at no cost out of warranty. *tr
Started engine and power steering was not working. looked up in manual and it said it will go into manual steering if power steering get hot. this has happened a few times but then the power steering would work after each occurrence. now the steering chatters and shakes the steering wheel even when in park and engine off. *tr
Driving on highway at about 65 mph. driving for about 30 min. when vehicle started to stutter and slow down. pushing the accelerator and no response -rpm and speed dropping quickly. almost run over by other vehicles on highway. wrench light came on the dash panel. car was pulled over to side of road and barely going at 900 rpm and ~ 2 mph. needed to ha e car towed. this is a very dangerous issue that needs to be fixed immediately! *tr
Vehicle moving at constant 45 mph when engine stumble felt, electronic throttle control/powertrain light illuminated and lost all ability to control vehicle speed with accelerator pedal. engine was still running and vehicle was able to be safely pulled off the main road. after turning vehicle off and then back on, the light went out and all systems were again ok. problem was traced to the electronic throttle control (throttle body) and fix requires replacement of the part. *tr
On monday, july 8 at 8:45 am i was driving my 2009 ford escape from my home to my office...a distance of 17.3 miles. i had completed approximately 14 of those miles, traveling on a four lane divided highway at approximately 55 mph and on cruise control. without warning, the car shut down. the motor continued to run at significantly reduced power...enough to power the power steering and brakes and electrical system...but not the vehicle. luckily i was able to steer off of the highway and access the situation. this failure had never occurred previously with this vehicle. a wrench light was now appearing on the control panel and the car was barely running. i put the car in neutral and shut it down. then i turned the key and it restarted and seemed to run fine. i continued the journey hoping it was a one-time glitch. that same afternoon at approximately 4 pm, i started my return trip home. within the first mile, while on the highway entrance ramp, the same shutdown occurred. this happened three more times as i made my way home. the approximate speed for each shutdown was as follows: #1 - 15 mph, #2 - 50 mph, #3 - 55 mph, #4 - 15 mph. that night, having read, on the internet, about the problems with the "throttle body control" part with ford escapes and have noted your case # pe13-003, i decided i would present the vehicle for repair at the ford dealership the next morning. that was, in fact, the problem and it was repaired on july 9, 2013 by tom masano auto group, 1600 lancaster ave., reading pa 19607 at a cost of $378.05. this failure presents a very dangerous situation since there is no way of predicting when it is going to happen. luckily, even though i was in rush hour traffic, i was able to steer the car to safely without incident. i, and others, may not be so lucky the next time. *tr
While driving on a main highway on vacation out of state the ford escape slowed and would not accelerate to keep up with traffic. "wrench light" light on dash illuminated. it continued to run slowly and we pulled off to the side of the highway. car restarted and ran normally over 100 miles to final destination. local repair shop detected no "codes" but suggested a ford dealer examine based upon history. dealer confirmed computer issue with throttle body faults caused stall and replaced part. total costs approx $300. no recurrence of stalls on highway. *tr
While driving to work on a residential highway without warning the vehicle engine just shutdown. the lights on the instrument panel came on and my wife was forced to coast to the side of the highway. this issue has occurred 2 times since, once in august and once on march 17th, 2014. the car has had regular servicing and at the time of the first incident the car was towed to the closest dealership for a review which was inconclusive as to the root cause. check code tested all modules with all passing. no low voltage codes or pcm codes. battery checked and all confirmed to be ok. as a potential remedy the pcm was flashed to the most current level. *tr
Driving again today and truck just shut off this is the second time in last two weeks is ford go to recall this problem pulled code and code number is 2112 same code as before. *tr
After use and park, the escape 2009 4 cyl. do not start. several times in between weeks with this trouble. several hours later, start as nothing occur. in an electronic diagnostic, sent a code: 1260 and 1681. starter is good and electronic ignition was recently changed thinking will stop the incidents but without resolving the issue. when the vehicle do the trouble, the antitheft icon keep blinking in the key on position. i changed the main key for the copy and keep doing the trouble. *tr
Driving and engine lost power check engine light on pulled code 2112. *tr
While driving at 60 mph, the car went in to limp mode. we costed to the shoulder turned car off. it re started no issues, check engine light came on. took to my mechanic who clean throttle body plate. car ran great for about 5 days then again same problem arises. call ford to purchase part and told it is on national back order no idea when the part could be available. so i am not stuck with a car that could get me or my family hurt. *tr
As i was driving, the accelerator pedal suddenly stopped responding and the wrench and check engine lights came on. i was able to pull over and put on the hazard lights. after turning the engine off and restarting, the accelerator pedal responded again and i was able to drive for a short while before it failed again. this was very dangerous. i repeated this cycle until i was able to get the car to the dealership, where i was notified that the codes indicated a faulty throttle body. the dealership has advised the part is on backorder and won't be available for at least two weeks, which means i won't be able to drive the car (the extended warranty does not provide a rental due to backordered parts). this is now very inconvenient. please note that the transmission was already completely replaced on this vehicle at around 30k miles, along with a failed power window motor, rear glass hatch seals, etc. *tr
We were driving down the road after picking up my daughter from school. suddenly the vehicle jerked and died. it had no prior problems at all. after sitting still for about 15min the vehicle started again and drove home no problem. since then its stalled several times once even when on the highway going 65mph! *tr
While driving on a busy freeway in houston my car jerked, the wrench light lit up, then would no longer accelerate. i was able to get over the shoulder of the freeway, but the car would not move after that. it stayed on, but was bouncing up and down. i had to have my car towed off the freeway. once towed, we turned the car off and back on and it ran fine. i took it to a local mechanic the next day and was told everything looked fine, i drove it the following day. on the freeway, it happened again. i immediately took it to the ford dealership, where i was told the throttle body needs to be replaced, but this part is on national back order with no delivery date in sight. ford has been giving me the run around since last week regarding the part and rental assistance. my husband and i were advised by a ford service manager that the car is still "drivable," however, the problem will happen again. he told us when it does, to simply turn the car off and back on and it should run fine for a short time. i expressed serious concern regarding this advice as houston streets and highways are extremely busy. to date, i have received no assistance and no more information on when this part will be available. *tr
My wife was driving along the highway when suddenly the throttle stopped working, the engine did not shut off but she could not give the car any gas and had to pull over. this has happened 4 times since then with the most recent being today. there is something wrong with the throttle body from what i've read from other 2009 ford escape owners. i also understand that an investigate was/is being done into this problem. *tr
Truck failed to accelerate from a red light, with pedal completely engaged. had continued loss power/thrust when i push the gas. this happens so often now, i am not comfortable driving in heavy traffic as i never know if i'll be able to accelerate. sunday after finally getting home, i was unable to get it to stay cranked when i depress the gas pedal to reverse. this loss of power was exuberated by having the a/c running. first the timing cover leaks at 22, 761, then a pulley falls off the engine at 40,149 spraying oil all over my interior via the a/c. after the pulley was replaced the car would idle high and then started jerking as if it wanted to stall, took to ford dealership and was told there were no codes, finally had the tech drive with me and he felt the jerking. after three visits for this, in november 2012 at 50,000 i was am told the coil pack needs to be replaced, now at 55, 063 miles i am told it is the throttle body that needs to be replaced? i think i was sold a lemon and in the state of florida that's illegal. what if i am rear ended due to the horrible craftsmanship of your product?
I was driving on a city road and the engine randomly died when i was traveling about 40mph. all the lights and radio/electronics remained on (never lost time or preset radio stations, headlights, dash, etc) but as i tried to give it some gas, it wouldn't respond. when i realized the engine was not running after a few seconds, the rpms were at 0 and the battery light and oil light was on. no codes thrown or check engine or wrench light. as i pulled over and put it in park, i attempted to start it, and it started right up like nothing was wrong. didn't "cough" or crank and crank...fired just like it was brand new. i took the vehicle in to a local body shop and they checked normal issues that would cause the escape to randomly shut off and did not find anything. then i did research and determined there was an investigation upon the throttle body. this same issue has happened a total of 3 times, of which the most recent was in july and september. *tr
I was driving up a steep hill on a blind corner in my neighborhood today when the engine suddenly shut off. this is the first time my escape shut off while i was accelerating. it stalled five other times in the past, each as i came to a stop sign or red light. the incidents are completely random with no warning, so i have no idea if next time will be at a red light or on the highway going 55 mph. when it shuts off i noticed that the dash flashes the battery and oil lights, but the battery is new and the oil is fine. i also noticed that when i'm idling in below freezing weather the engine will shudder, sometimes violently, but eventually stops when i start moving again. *tr
While driving the car started to sputter and would not accelerate and then would suddenly accelerate without touching the accelerator. eventually the engine just shut off all together. has happened several times since then. found out it was because of the throttle body, which seems to be a recurrence on ford escapes. *tr
I was stopped at a red light and when the light turned green i pressed the accelerator but the engine seemed to have stalled. i did have slight forward momentum that was jerky and i was able to pull off to the side of the road. i turned the car off, sat for a few minutes, then tried to restart the car. the car did start and no warning lights were on the dashboard. i was able to drive to my subdivision without incident but once i turned into my neighborhood the car stalled again. the car was then towed to my ford dealership where i was told the throttle needed to be replaced. since the throttle is considered an electrical component it was not covered under the powertrain warranty. the bill was approximately $670. i was not told this was a common incident in my model and year of car. *tr
Car is traveling in 25-30 mph range and shuts down. all lights on dashboard come on. coast the vehicle to a stop. put in park and start up again. this has happened twice in last two days. this same situation happened on expressway going 60 mph on 01/03/2011. had to be towed to ford dealership. at that time a new throttle body and module was installed. *tr
Took my vehicle in to ford dealer due to check engine light stuck on. diagnostics pulled 2 codes, p0011 & p0012. these 2 codes are major engine problems!! both solenoids need to be replaced, and possibly have to replace both cylinder heads and cam shafts if head and camshafts show wear = thus a very very expensive engine repair cost for me!! the ford dealership said this is only covered under warranty up to 60,000 miles: my escape had only 63,296 miles on 4-2-13, the day i went to the dealership. i'm climbing up the tree at ford motor company an feel i have a "lemon" ford vehicle!! i want to know why ford motor company did not send out any recall notices to 2009 ford escape owners regarding this major-major engine malfunction = serious engine repair costs to me due to their negligence !! i am over the warranty timeline by 3,296 miles !!! i should not have to pay for this engine repair !! *tr
Car stalled while moving forward after backing out of parking space. car had operated for 15 minutes before pulling into space, then immediately backing out without stopping engine. for approximately a year and one half yellow service engine light intermittently comes on then goes off after few driving cycles. car also hesitates and jerks during acceleration randomly and frequently. service dept of used car dealer where purchased car has detected no defects and has not replicated problem when car left at shop. *tr
While accelerating at low speeds (15 - 20 mph), the vehicle suddenly began to shudder and lurch, with no increase in throttle or power despite flooring the gas pedal. yellow check engine / repair lights came on, vehicle would jerkingly continue to move forward at a speed of less than 5 mph. after conducting a search, it appears to be similar to the "limp home mode" throttle body problem reported by the north carolina consumers council. *tr
While driving, the vehicle lost power. when pressing on gas it just coasted. the wrench warning light came on. was able to get to side of the road, but almost got hit from behind. turned vehicle off, restarted and was back on the road. on other occasions there has been some surging. i see that there has been many complaints on this problem and it is getting some press that there is a defective part (throttle body). i contacted ford service and was told that they could look at it, but it is not under warranty. however, the wrench warning light indicate a power train issue, i was told it is not covered under the power train warranty. this does not make sense and it truly looks like a defective part. this is very unsafe and could result in a very bad accident in traffic. this needs to be a recall since they are aware of the issue. *tr
We have had problems with this vehicle from day one. currently the big issue is the throttle body (which i've seen has been a problem with all the ford escapes). also the mass air flow system, heating/air, and security system (also it has a problem not starting---not sure if that's also throttle body). is this being recalled? *tr
While traveling at 70mph, vehicle suddenly stalled while driving in the center lane of a highway in heavy traffic. no warning signs were displayed. after pulling to the shoulder, vehicle was able to be restarted and seemed to be fine. service technician found a failure code for 'throttle stuck closed' with 'freeze data' showing it happened at 71mph. he inspected the throttle and found no problems. as a precaution, he cleaned the throttle blade with a cleaning wipe. a week later, the vehicle stalled again as i was pulling into traffic. in order to keep the vehicle running, i then needed to keep my foot on both the gas and brake while at stops. return to my technician and he diagnosed the problem as a defective throttle body. he said that the computer data showed the throttle open only 52% when the throttle was wide open. vehicle has not yet been repaired. *tr
