My wife was driving our 2008 ford escape xlt when the accelerator became hard to press. she attempted to vary the amount of pressure on the accelerator but it was still hard to press. she then pressed harder on the accelerator and it dropped to the fire wall and did not return to its normal position. she was able to safely pull off of the highway without incident. i came out to the location where she was, i got into the car and i had to use the tip of my shoe several times to pull the accelerator up before it would stay in its normal position. i was able to get the accelerator to work normally after this. this particular problem has occurred one other time while driving. however, a similar problem to this occurs several times while driving. when the accelerator becomes hard to press i tap on the accelerator (before applying normal press) and i am able to accelerate normally. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that when stopped at a stop light, the accelerator pedal became stuck and would not move unless the consumers wife pressed on the bottom of the pedal firmly. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where he was informed that there was a clogged intake valve which would not allow the pressure in the pedal release. the vehicle had been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were approximately 35,000. updated 06/02/10.*lj updated 05/11/10. *lj updated 08/18/10

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond to acceleration attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

When the vehicle is first started, it is impossible to press the accelerator and after a few moments, the accelerator will depress. there is no indication when the accelerator will be free and great care must be taken to avoid a sudden lunge forward. just allowing the vehicle to idle and warm up does not seem to make any difference. *tr

When the temperatures drop to below 25 degrees - the accelerator / gas pedal will often "freeze" and not allow acceleration and/or will stay depressed even with application of the brake (car still stops) and idles very high when in neutral. when starting from a traffic light at times the vehicle will not accelerate properly. *tr

My gas pedal on my 2008 escape was sticking in cold weather. it kept getting worse. i had too really push hard on it to free it up. if in gear it accelerated very fast or in neutral it revved engine very fast. i considered it unsafe so i took it in for repair. i had to replace the throttle assembly at my cost . are their any other complaints of this nature. ford dealer kept part. i under stand ford is replacing a lot of these. this is a very unsafe condition. *tr

Gas pedal gets stuck and will not go. happens every morning, the gas pedal gets locked and has to be pushed with extreme force in order for the car to go. this started in december and happens every day. *tr

Recently purchased a 2008 ford escape with 42000 miles. while driving on the expressway at 70mph i heard a loud snap, and the accelerator pedal fell to the floor. the vehicle was pulled to the side of the expressway and towed to a repair facility. upon inspection, it was found the accelerator cable had failed, with the cable itself snapping at a point approx. 1/8 inch from the end at the pedal. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal would remain stuck and the contact was unable to depress the pedal. the contact stated that failure recurred often and most frequently during colder weather. the vehicle was taken to the a repair shop, however the failure was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of failure but no further assistance was provided. the current mileage was 80,000. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

This morning driving to work, again....my gas pedal stuck...was going 50 to 1 mph in a second. i have had my 2008 ford escape back to the dealer three different times since i purchased it in 2009 and they stated...they could not "replicate" the issue. i have just learned on 8/12/14 there is a recall on the throttle and i hope they honor the recall. this has been a very scary situation over the years, where my life was put in danger and all i have been told is that they cannot "replicate" the issue when the vehicle was in each time soon after it happened. i am calling my local ford dealer now! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. seven days after the vehicle was purchased, it failed to start. the dealer stated that the accelerator pedal cable lines failed. the repairs were made at the manufacturer's expense. on a separate occasion, while driving less than 40 mph, the contact heard a loud revving noise. the vehicle was hesitant to pick up speed. the accelerator pedal became inoperable and the contact coasted the vehicle off the highway. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they found that the accelerator pedal cable lines failed again. the manufacturer assumed liability for the second time. the current and failure mileages were less than 29,500.

I was accelerating on a freeway on ramp and suddenly my gas pedal was not there - it was limp. i called for a tow and it is now at the dealer. they say the throttle body is sticking and the cable is broken. this happened right before rush hour and luckily i coasted to the side of the road out of the traffic when this happened or i could have easily been killed. *tr

My wife was stepping on the gas pedal while traveling up an on ramp, the gas pedal broke off, she coasted to the side of the rode and called the dealership. *tr

Throttle sticks shut when outside temperature falls below 30 degrees . have to feel around for right spot to get throttle to move and vehicle to drive. had throttle cable replaced once by ford , has done this every winter since then . this year being worse then normal and got stuck so pedal wouldn't move at all. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape xlt. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate from a complete stop and the accelerator pedal was extremely difficult to depress. once the vehicle accelerated, it did so at a high rate of speed. the vehicle was later taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. approximately 5 years later, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 120. the current mileage was approximately 84,000.

My gas pedal sticks, especially when it's cold out. i've talked to ford about it and 3 other mechanics and no one knows why. i have a heated garage so it's not frozen. not sure what to do but is embarrassing and dangerous! *tr

No gas pedal could not move vehicle had to have towed accelerator cable has happened 2 more times jan 26 2010 21843 miles dec 2 2011 33,651 seems to be sticking again at 50,000 ford says no one else having problems tsb 9-21-9 tells different. *tr

All these items have been fixed by capitol city ford indianapolis and mace ford terre haute, in. i am still having problems with the throttle thrust and electrical problems. currently my car will not start. other mechanics said it was the starter, its not the starter its electrical sensors. the vehicle speeds up sometimes when the car is not being excelerated. suspension, heater speed control stop working when they worked on the electrical and they refuse to fix it. there is more. i don't have my documentation, but i will submit it later. the car is at the shop - being looked and worked on - its still not starting - so we don't have transportation!! i cant afford another hit from ford when they are not even fixing the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that he started the vehicle and it would not accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the vehicle. several years later the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and acknowledged that there was a retainer clip that could remedy the defect. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 11,152 and the current mileage was 57,000. updated 07/06/12 *bf the consumer stated when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered the accelerator pedal was loose and all the way to the floor. there was no resistance that indicated the accelerator was connected. the dealer replaced the accelerator cable.

My 2008 ford escape was purchased on december 31, 2007 on may 22, 2008, while traveling on the expressway the throttle cable snapped and the gas petal would not function. i was going 65 mph and this put me in a very dangerous position. the car immediately stopped accelerating and had to be pushed into the emergency lane. i was towed to the dealership. there i was told they did not know what the problem was. on august 13, 2008, i exited from the expressway, pulled into a parking lot and the throttle cable snapped again. i was unable to operate the vehicle and had to be towed to the dealership. again, i was told we do not know why this happened. i new cable was installed. on march 3, 2009, while driving 65 mph on the expressway the throttle cable snapped again. i was unable to accelerate and had to be towed. this was the most dangerous situation, i went from 65 mph to nothing during intense rush hour traffic. i had to be towed to the dealership and again was told we do not understand why this is happening. *tr

Accelerator pedal sticks in the up position in cold weather. if slammed with driver's foot it will release then start operating...this is an unsafe driving condition. the problem occurs every winter. vehicle was taken in for warranty work for this specific problem at least 5 times. throttle body was replaced two times but problem has not been fixed. after the throttle body was replaced, the vehicle would operate correctly for a few months then the problem would return. ford dealerships ( two different ones) and ford customer service center operator & supervisor refused to acknowledge any design problem with the vehicle . *tr
