Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2008 Ford Escape

I own a 2008 ford escape that has recently been diagnosed with a known recalled issue with the torque sensor. error code b2278. it has caused the electric power steering assist to turn off. my vehicle currently has no power steering due to this issue that has already been recalled. my vehicle falls under the model and year that ford recalled the part on, however the ford motor company is claiming they have no responsibility in the repair or replacement of the part. luckily i was at a slow speed when the power steering went out and did not cause an accident.

Suspension axle transmission front end while in motion loud clank metal sound. took to shop and was told drive it until it dies. too expensive to repair entirerepair of from axel suspension and transmission. i still have 15 months on my loan. no excessive driving and no hard use.

My vehicle will be in motion while driving and suddenly have a shifting problem. the vehicle will shake and stutter and looses power no matter how much you press your foot on the gas peddle. my engine light flashed on and off a couple times and then once my vehicle shifted, it would idle rough and act like it was going to die when i would stop at a light. this has been happening for several days now at different speeds on residential streets and the highway. the engine light has not come on since. i took it to have the error code read from the engine light coming on but it was only a generic code. one of the codes was for an airbag sensor. i do not know what is wrong with it.

I bought this used escape about 2 yrs ago, first yr over $400 into stabilizer bar sway bars front end repairs,,ok, second yr, guess what? yes transmission 3rd gear out...after doing reviews on here i'm not the only one. when one lives on social security and you live on $100 a week doesn't leave much for repairs,, yes i know you are going to some maintance but holly cow this transmission problem is not cheap. i have only put 9,223 miles on this suv since i had it. with as many problems as there is with the escape transmission one would think fords would get it right, with all the problems not even a recall. every place i have taken my car to i't like here comes a ole lady we'll tell her anything and empty her wallet, can't believe all the crap i was told with diff $$ making my head spin, who do you belive when fords let you down and don't stand behind their product. i have always been a ford person but not anymore!! i can't make payments and replace tranys on a fixed income. i am doing my homework now and it looks like chevy here i come. ford get it together

The front wheel hub started giving me problems around 10 three 2018. then on 12 20 2018 the hood came undone and smashed my windshield. ever since i've had the vehicle since 2015 it had power assist problems in the steering.

When you take the transmission is sluggish on changing gears and after a change out of logan her into high gear is sykes working fine wine step on the brakes the truck starts bouncing feels like the front end is about to fall out from under the truck and i told you to the ford company and they said there's no any recall on my vin number but i have a part that is listed under the government site is good that's what's going on with my vehicle is a ford escape 2008.

2008 ford escape transmission is bad already lost 2nd gear was a recall but ford motor company will not recall because of expiration warranty i've only had my vehicle 1 year and 10 months i still owe ford should be responsible for this reopen the recall my ford escape is at a dealer ship in g-ville ohio i am on a fixed income disability my mom is also disabled i have a daughter with brain cancer i have to pay someone to take her appointments i really need my vehicle and i think ford motor company should reopen the recall and replace my transmission and pay for me to get a rental car

I paid for my 2008 ford escape and warranty just expired in july 2018. i've taken my car for service routinely with ford dealership and just received service the week prior. i explained i was going for a trip to az (400 mile roundtrip) and needed a full check and service. everything passed with flying colors. on my return trip up a hill, the wrench light came on and i lost power and limped home. i took it to the service department and codes were not coming up for the wrench light and after keeping it for additional day, the 2nd and 4th gears are out and it will take a week to fix. no warranty coverage and i just hit the 90,000 mile mark. unbelievable that a transmission goes out at a 90,000 mile. i'm so disappointed in the vehicle after paying so much for it and maintaining all services. no discounts were offered.

Vehicle lurches, stalls, jerks, lunges, slips and so on.

The transmission does not comply with the gear shifter. it feels like the parking brake is on and the vehicle will not proceed

Transmission wrench light came on internet said the band in transmission was at fault. i was in a parking lot when the light came the car was shifting out of first into second. it has been shifting hard for a couple months. i had the unit worked on last year to replace a band that has broken. it worked fine for awhile then started this hard shifting. i spent over 700$ to get it repaired. the car has 180000 miles on it.

I was driving home from work in my 2008 ford escape, when the vehical just stopped accelerating. the rpm would climb, but the vehical would not move. the wrench light on the instrument cluster came on. i was able to get the vehical off the highway. i noticed if i turned the vehical off and turned it back on, it would move until the transmission went into 3rd gear after that it would just rev up as if it was in neutral. i limped it the 5 miles to home and parked it. after some research i have found that this is a common issue with this vehical. something really should be done about this. it is sad that so many of these have less than 100,000 miles and are having major power train issues. my 2008 ford escape only has 55,000 miles.

When driving car will shut down with a warning pull over and turn vehicle off very dangerous no time to find exits does not matter where you are at!!

Car will accelerate after coming to complete stop. transmission shift bands broke. ford is charging 1537 to rebuild the transmission. the issue seems to be common with the 2008 ford escape. ford should have a recall on this part.

My ford escape 2008 model auto transmission with mileage of 98000 started giving trouble today and scary too. after turning on the car & once starts moving, i felt like something wrong with shifting gears from first to second (vehicle moves smoothly for few and after that i can hear the accelerator sound, and i see the wrench sign pops up on the dash board so i had to press the gas pedal up and down to move the vehicle, i drove my escape home and stopped the car and again i turned on that time wrench sign was gone and started moving the vehicle and the same thing repeated - wrench sign & the problem with shifting gears.

Throttle/powertain has went out in car.i read about other complaints concerning the same thing. i was driving down the highway and my car would not change gear and the wrench light emblem came on. i was in traffic and the car was slowing down, i almost got into an accident on i-30 in arlington texas on 2/1/2018. there was a recall on this part but another year. this is highly unsafe and needs to be recalled. thanks, for reading this complaint. Takata recall the vehicle is in motion and i was on the freeway when i experience the following problem. my vehicle was not accelerating correctly and the wrench icon light came on signifying that it is a powertrain fault.

My ford escape 2008 model auto transmission with mileage of 72000 started giving trouble today and scary too. after turning on the car & once starts moving, i felt like something wrong with shifting gears from first to second (vehicle moves smoothly for few meters and after that i can hear the accelerator sound, and i see the wrench sign pops up on the dash board and vehicle won't move for a few seconds, so i had to press the gas pedal up and down to move the vehicle, felt like vehicle going to stop in the middle of the traffic light. i drove my escape home and stopped the car and again i turned on that time wrench sign was gone and started moving the vehicle and the same thing repeated - wrench sign & the problem with shifting gears. i am going to call the dealer tomorrow, because their service department closed already.

While driving my 2008 ford escape and making a left turn, the power steering went out making it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle. i was coming home from work on a city street. when car was turned off and on it cleared out and was ok but it happened again while making a turn. had car repaired at local ford dealer and was told it was a bad torque sensor. said that my car was not included in a recall (which had recalled some escapes with the same issue) of these bad sensors since car was not manufactured in specific plant. don't understand this since it is a defective part with nothing to do with the location of manufacture. dealer gave me no satisfaction so i called ford customer service and still waiting to hear back. by researching this online, this appears to be a common problem. i do not understand why ford doesn't acknowledge that they have these defective torque sensors and recall the all vehicles to fix this problem. are they waiting for someone to be fatally injured? very distressing as i often have my grandchildren in the vehicle. *js

While driving, the carboard noticed several signs and the speedometer dropped to zero. also, on other days, i could not start the car.

100300 miles on my 2008 escape. car struggles to change from 1st to 2nd gear. now power, engine revs up but gear will not change, i have to press the gas pedal then lift off, over and over before it changes gear. car will jerk and almost lose power while in traffic

Loss of pressure in the top end resulting in failure of transmission. was coasting into town (took foot off gas for lower speed limit) engine shifted hard and revs to high rpm and has no power.

Driving on the highway, the "wrench light appeared and suddenly the car jolted forward almost creating an accident by rapidly slowing the vehicle, once control was regained i moved to the side of the road. i was then able to get the vehicle home on "limp" mode, where the vehicle is restricted to prevent damage to the transmission. upon looking at this site, i found the investigation for the 09-13 ford escape throttle body warranty, which the throttle body was diagnosed by a certified ford garage on my vehicle, the part is the same from 05-13 on the 3l engine escape models and seriously posed a threat to me while driving however since it is a 2008, not a 2009, ford will not grant the dealership permission to replace the part free of charge, although the same part and same malfunction is acknowledged in the 09-13 models and is under and extended manufacturers warranty, listed under customer service program code "13n03"

Loss of 2nd and 4th gear/ limp mode. i purchased a used 2008 ford escape with 69,980 miles. no complaints till hit 89,000 miles when all if a sudden there was no 2nd and 4th gear. i was getting ready to pull into traffic. put foot on accelerator went to about 16mph and refused to ho faster. rpms revved up to 4000+ the yellow wrench light came on. once got to 20mph hard shift into gear .and did this again at 40mph except wont shift into higher gear. was told it is in limp mode. so i did internet research on this. said over 368 complaints just on this specific problem, specifically on the 2008 ford escape. i tried resetting the pcm. did not fix problem. replaced the throttle control sensor. did not fix problem. now that leaves the 2nd & 4th gear band assembly. i called and got 3 estimates, they ranged from$1900-$3000. part cost $89 and a new transmission cost $1700. replacing this part can be done without having to remove transmission and said to about 2hours. my complaint in if this is a common issue why aren't you replacing part or fixing this? there has been several investigations and still nothing! this is the first ford i purchased and will be the last! which is a shame because i love my truck. just can't afford to fix it. so i will park it and pray ford owns up to their faulty parts and assembly and fixes this. and i will make sure everyone i know and everyone i meet knows about how ford knowingly put in defective parts on many vehicle so they could make money fixing them. think about it. all these ( throttle control sensor and 2nd & 4th gear band ) go bad at 89,000 mile. *tr

On my way to work today, my car starts to slow down when i try to accelerate. the car eventually jerks forward and starts to go faster after the rpm goes up to 4. i thought it was the transmission slipping until i see the wrench shaped light come on. i turn around, put my flashers on since it's happening off and on and immediately take it home because i don't want to get stuck this far away from home. when i get home, i check to see what the wrench light means and find out it's a throttle body issue that for some reason there is no recall for even though it's an on-going issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while accelerating from a red light, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was not able to restart. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

Wrench indicator light and vehicle symptoms of high rpms in teh 3.5 to 4 range at low speeds (cycling from 1st gear to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd) on city streets 0-35 mph. engine codes not yet read, but similar issues reported as a fault in the throttle body. consumer satisfaction program 13n03 has identified the problem for same make and model starting in manufacturing year of 2009. my car has a manufacture date of 01/07, though it is a 2008 and is only about 126,000 miles. this throttle body fault should be identified in other years of manufacture if the reports are documented.

Turning right onto a major intersection, the vehicle would not accelerate to effectively merge into oncoming traffic. after letting off the gas, then reapplying the accelerator, the vehicle finally began to increase it's speed. took it into the dealer, discovered the vehicle would need it's 2nd transmission overhaul in less than 18 months.

Shitting cable came off transmission . it said it was in park but when i tried to get out the car continued to move forward.car was on street at time. could not put car back in park

Ford won't honor recall 14s05 they did a software update and but now i need an entire power steering torque sensor replaced and they won't cover that. other consumers have complained on line that ford won't repair your steering after having your recall software done. a ford escape recall gotcha ' recall 14s05, transport canada ... https://medium.com/@joewardpr/a-ford-escape-recall-gotcha-recall-14s05-transport-canada-201413-7f0d7ca0d84c mar 17, 2015 ... ford 'closed out' the recall after only updating software and won't pay for the ... a facebook group exists entirely about ford not 'honoring' recall #14s05 ....

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would become hard to turn causing partial loss of power steering. the contact stated that a wrench (power train fault warning) would appear on the instrumental panel. the vehicle was not taken or towed to a local dealer for diagnoses or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Car will not start unless the key is forcibly inserted into the ignition. this has to be done several times. when exiting the car, it will ding to alert the driver that the key has been left in the ignition but the key has been taken out of the ignition.

Wrench light on... trouble shifting... higher rpms when shifting

Pulled into driveway, stopped, put the car in reverse - car would not move, engine just revved without moving; put it in d and nothing again. turned off engine, restarted it, put it in gear and it kinda jerked backward. sometimes the gears would engage, sometimes not. noise coming from transmission area sounds like a blender on low speed. mileage is 87,000. it is a 4wd. have not yet determined whether it is the transmission or the transfer case - i'm nine miles from a dealer/garage and don't think i can make it there. would probably have to tow it. i've parked it in a garage until a mechanic can respond to my residence. had no problems with drive train until this happened. i've read that 2008 escapes have had some problems, but this one is not under recall at this time. *tr

I own a 2008 ford escape. my wife was at work and when she started to drive home noticed the steering wheel difficult to steer. luckily she was driving straight on the highway on the way home. she did notice vibration of the steering wheel. i took it for a test drive and noticed it was very difficult to steer or turn at low speeds. also the steering/powertrain wrench light had come lit. it was evident the steering assist had malfunctioned. after some research i became aware of an electric power assist safety recall on 2008-2011 ford escapes. which is the exact same issue i'm having on my 2008 ford escape. i contacted the local ford dealer and was told that according to the vin number there was no recall announced for my vehicle. this makes exactly no sense to me because its the exact same issue and vehicle for which the recall was made. i'm basically on my own to fix at this point. *tr

I put my 2008 escape in park, removed the keys from the ignition and exited the vehicle. i walked approximately 60 yards and was informed by a bystander that my vehicle was rolling away. the 2008 for escape rolled approximately 200 yards down hill into a tree. i went to the vehicle and the gearshift was now in the "r" position after striking the tree. i know there was a recall for such a problem on certain ford escapes. according to ford my vin number was not included in the recall.

I purchased my 2008?ford escape last year 2015. i have replaced both cv axils on each side and i had my steering column replaced. i purchased the car with 95,000 miles on it at a great deal of $8,900. i then found out why it was so cheap from such a trusted dealership. the dealership was closing in the next 2 weeks. it closed shortly after my purchase and a new ford dealership opened in its place. through out the last few weeks my car has not been driving correctly, especially on the highway. i took a closer look and noticed that no matter my speed my car will not go above 3rd gear. my power tran light came on today. i have read on other sights that there were recalls on this issue. i do not think these issues were fixed while being recalled. the related i've done so far have not been cheap by any means. after a year (even less 2 of the above cases) i should not be having these issues. http://m.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2008/recalls/ the above sight was my reference tara

Have to force the key into the ignition really hard and turn the key many times before the vehicle will start.

Vehicle power train light came on. vehicle began to shutter then lose power on the highway without a shoulder. vehicle reduced speed to max 20mph.

The mecs coolant pump fails without warning causing the dc-dc inverter and hybrid drivetrain to instantly shut down without warning at interstate speed. you get the red triangle and stop safely now with the engine turned off leaving you to coast across 4 lanes of the interstate to get to the shoulder. you must completely stop and put it in park before the car will restart. this is such an important hazard to life and limb that there needs to be an immediate recall. this is a well-documented problem that ford knows about. online it says they recalled them but the dealer said that they did not recall them. if you touch the brake with the engine shut down the car comes to an immediate stop automatically in 3 seconds. leaving the interstate traffic to veer around you. mine failed intermittently last summer. now every hot day the car just turns off on the interstate 5-6 times a day. someone is going to get killed over this. it needs an immediate recall to avert a loss of life. i checked my coolant pump and it is not functioning. the recall i see says they are removing the dorman brush rotor pumps and replacing them with bosch brushless rotor pumps. the hybrid drive only fails at interstate speed when it is a warm day. the car started doing it last summer when it had 70000 miles on it. it is no longer intermittent but occurs daily now.

Takata recall - vehicle transmission slips, engine revs and decelerates while driving, ignition switch will not start car each time. sometimes it takes twenty tries. i have read hundreds of these complaints on the internet.ev

Truck is accelerating and switching gears on its own. while at a traffic light , a wrench light pops on and the truck begins to switch gears. once the truck is turned off, the wrench light goes away but returns after driving begins again. truck is not getting enough power when driving as if it is going to shut off. there are also jerking motions while driving.

When starting to accelerate from a traffic light, the engine raced to over 4k rpms and the car was barely at 20 mph. no acceleration and the wrench light was lit on the dash. rpms randomly fluctuated and only after reaching 3,500 rpms would the transmission shift gears. after shutting the engine off and restarting the wrench light is gone but returns after a minute. 105,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while at a stop and attempting to move forward, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle jerked before moving forward. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 118,888. the vin was unavailable.

I notice about a week ago that a wrench light signal came on my dash. i checked my owners manual and google the information and then i check to see if there was a recall. i can feel my car doing a pull when i try to accelerate and when on the freeway i am not getting not power it seems like i am moving slower than what my speedometer says, i see that there has been a recall for this issue but not for my vin number. i guess i don't understand how centain vin # an be excluded from a recall but you have the same issue. this is the same thing that happen about 1year ago to my power steering there were recalls but not for my vin. i was out $1000.00 . now i have i have get this fixed and my mechanic can not do it because he said something about you need a computer and i need to take back to ford which is going to cost and arm and a leg. i am so done with ford i have always had ford cars/trucks but i am at my end with them.

A wrench warning sign.

Transmission - the service wrench dash light came on and the transmission started to shift badly. a quick trip to the ford service center indicates that gears 2 & 4 need to be replaced (at 71,000 miles). ford has issued a tsb on the problem, and there are multiple posts on the internet concerning this issue. this needs to be upgraded to a warranty recall as it does effect the safety of the vehicle.

Wrench light appears on lower left dash. car has a difficult time getting into gear. slow to engage, though high rpm. happens while in motion. or taking off from a stop.

2008 ford escape failed to accelerate while making turn into traffic. examination revealed significant leak of transmission fluid from transmission fluid cooler resulting in "slippage" of transmission. investigation of issue found that leakage was a cracked tube at right hand mounting bracket of transmission fluid cooler. this condition is covered by ford csp 09b10, but had not been brought in for mitigation by previous owner. ford has expired csp 09b10 as of august 2010, even though the condition appears to be a certainty (based on abundant internet commentary) relatively early in mileage life of vehicle (my escape has very moderate mileage). rapid and unexpected change in transmission performance is a safety issue, and should be subject to appropriate recall as opposed to a "fix-it" bulletin. ford has indicated that they will not provide remediation of this problem.

Truck has 87,000 miles ,riding down the road tranny not shifting properly, almost causing me to hit another car when i tried to accerlate.took to shop, transmission needs to be replaced. my god you got to be kidding me.terribly designed suv. no more fords for me.unheard of.
