The gas pedal get stuck when the temperature is cold. and is danger because if you are in the stop and you star drive may be gas pedal is not working and you are in the middle the intersection and produce accident. and is all the time when is cold weather
I was driving on an interstate and i noticed that the car was going faster than it should as i was heading towards an exit ramp. i pulled over on the shoulder amd the car was revving up like 4000 rpm all by itself. i drove the vehicle alternating between neutral and drive as it was revving up too high. i parked in a lot. turned the car off... it was revving up like a race car... all by itself. very scary. could have died. the floor boards were clean. nothing could have stuck to the accelerator pedal.... no way this could be operator error
Gas pedal getting stuck/not working off and on for last year; gasket was replaced, now recently sticking again. today, was on arterial when pedal stuck, luckily no traffic as for several minutes vehicle would not move. got pedal unstuck after several tries and lifting with toe, so was able to get home. car in shop now. dangerous!
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000. ..updated 05/23/17 *bf the consumer stated the accelerator pedal was solid when attempted to be depressed. it was difficult to press. the throttle body cause build up of carbon. updated 12/4/2017*js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck in the depressed position without warning. as a result, the vehicle drastically reduced speed and failed to accelerate. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 190,000.
The gas pedal will get stuck down. the vehicle will stall. i would have to use my foot to try to lift the acceleration pedal up. sometimes it would pop into place quickly while other times, i had to keep lifting it up with my foot. this happened while on the freeway and other cars were coming full speed behind me, but i was unable to get the vehicle back in motion in a speedy manner. this has occurred early morning, midday, and night. it has been on the city street and the highway. i researched and saw that ford had a recall for 2001 - 2004 for the throttle body issue which is due to the sticking acceleration pedal. when i went to ford, they said that my vin was not included in the recall nor the consumer appreciation for certain models although it was the exact same issue. my vehicle is a 2005 ford escape. the mechanic said that there were many cars that came in with this issue, but the sales woman pretended as if she never heard of the issue. i paid almost $1,000 to fix an issue that other vehicles had fixed in a recall. *tr
Hi i have a 2005 ford escape & up into about and year i started had having engine failure, my vehicle would start & stop, to sum this up, im affaid to drive when this accures praying that know 1 runs into the back of me...ive tooken it to the auto place to get a reading & ive replaced everything that it read ignition coils (twice), fuel filters, tune a/c compressor, wouldnt come on etc....i can go on & on..& im still having the same problems & finally ive decided to google these accurances, to find that there's other vic..that has occurred theses same incidents....this is a serious matter, that ford needs to address / resolved before someone doesn't make it. vic. just shutting down in the middle of traffic....& it also accures while stationary & while turning, this has been going on since oct. of 2015 & in between replaceing parts it stalled for a while of the killing & now it has started back up full force about a week ago. 6/13/2016 & today is the 6/21/2016
Vehicle jerking 4wd light keeps blinking, power lock light pops on car act like it wants to shut off
Accelerator sticking in neutral position. mechanics can't find whats wrong and its very likely to cause an accident. i have read many articles that this is common in older models
I received my escape as a birthday gift two years ago. on several occasions since my gas pedal stops working and i have been unable to press it down, it won't go. this has happened while on city streets and on interstates. on a couple of occasions i have been able to pull over or off the road, put it in park, turn off the engine, restart my car and get it going again. i have tried pounding on the gas and that does nothing, it won't budge. i have no idea when this will happen, so i cannot just expect it to, it happens, day or night, hot or cold temperature, driving down a straight highway or turning on a city street. i am afraid it will happen while i am driving in the snow or while one of my kids are driving it. i have tried explaining to them what to do, but of all the things they need to worry about while driving, the gas pedal sticking should not be one of them.
Was driving at highway speed (appx 55mph) in 5 o'clock traffic in raleigh, nc on us 1 and the vehicle lost speed. all emergency lights came on. forced to pull the vehicle off onto the shoulder and was almost rear ended. the vehicle sputtered and totally cut off. attempted to restart the vehicle but it kept cutting off. i was unable to restart the vehicle and was stranded on the highway. after a call to a family member and to aaa, the car was towed home 3 hours later. the next day, the car was towed to crossroads ford in cary, nc. they determined that the pcm, spark plugs and ignition coils all failed at once and charged me $2700. error codes p0351, p0354 and p0353 appeared on the diagnostics. the vehicle was repaired the next day. this is a huge safety issue since the vehicle suddenly undergoes a catastrophic failure with loss of power and acceleration and could lead to an accident. *tr
I was driving at 30 mph when the service light came on. two minutes later vehicle lost acceleration power, seemed to stall. had to coast to side of the road quickly to get out of way. the service light is no longer on and vehicle seems to be driving ok. was told it was a sticky throttle body. *tr
Vehicles gas pedal gets stuck up and cannot be depressed at all while car is on and i am driving. it happened this week several times on very cold days. while driving or while stopped at light and trying to go i cannot depressed the pedal, even when pushing hard. eventually it depressed for me after several tries. vehicle gas pedal has also gotten stuck down twice previously with car accelerating uncontrollably, which happened for almost a minute then it popped up - resulted in near collision { thank goodness its a manual transmission]. i have read in many on-line discussion boards of many other individuals having their gas pedal on ford escapes stick up or down also. *tr
As soon as i hit about 60 mph, between 2-3 rpm, my car begins to stall and feels like the gas pedal is grinding and won't let me go any faster without vibrating the entire vehicle. i initially thought it was the transmission slipping so i took it in to a transmission auto shop where the found absolutely nothing. which is very odd for an auto shop to not find anything. about 1 week after this problem, the service emission light came on. i was driving home from work the day the light came on and the car completely stopped on the highway, in rush hour traffic. thankfully i was close to the side of the highway and was able to pull over. i got to the side and put my car into park, turned the engine off, and waited a couple of minutes to allow my heart rate to come back down to a normal pace. i turned the key and the engine turned back on. i drove it into an auto shop to see what the issue was, and the reader showed cylinder 2 misfire. the first possible fix was to replace the coil on plug, which is what i did. i got home today and am still experiencing this scary feeling of my car not being able to excel above 60. i read many reviews this evening and so many people have experienced very similar issues. this is not safe and people are at serious risk or getting injured and/or in an accident. the average cost to fix the issue - reported by many users on http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2005/electrical/computer_pcm_failure.shtml, is $2000. when you have a 2005 car of any kind, $2000 seems very high to fix when the car is 10 years old. please investigate this issue further as this is unacceptable that ford has yet to recall this issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the accelerator pedal became stiff and difficult to depress. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 175,000.
Gas pedal is "frozen" like will not accelerate and will not go down when pushed on. *tr
Gas pedal sticks, especially in cold weather. *tr
Gas pedal gets stuck and the vehicle will not move forward or it hesitates and moves very slow. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck and the vehicle accelerated. as a result, the contact crashed into a tree. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated the while she drove at 35 mph the accelerator pedal stick to the floor board. the accelerator pedal had to be depressed several times to release the pedal. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage were 48,000.
Two regular ongoing issues......when driving, if foot is taken off gas pedal to ease up speed, gas pedal then sticks as if something is blocking it (nothing is blocking), no amount of pressing will move it, after some seconds or a minute, it will function again. happens most often when cold, or when just starting out. car continues to decelerate until the gas pedal begins to function again. second issue.......engine light with code p0455 is on most of the time, gas cap loose light will also come on , replacing gas cap did not help. *tr
Rear wheel wells rusting out as well as rear seat wells under doors rusting off in huge chunks, cruise,cd player doesnt work, radio shorts out on volume control goes louder instead of lower volume, also front axle had to be replaced at joe lake tire do they use timken products?
Whenever the outside temperature dips below freezing, my gas pedal will suddenly get stuck and the car coasts to a stop and will just sit there idling. the first time it happened i was able to "stomp" on the pedal and it freed up, that is no longer the case. when the temperature dips into the 20's it is even worse and will get stuck, eventually free up and be fine....unless i then enter highway speeds, it will do it again. i have found that warming the car several extra minutes seems to eliminate the problem at slower 35mph speeds. however, upon entering highway speeds, even after warming the vehicle for ten minutes, it will get stuck after several minutes of travel at highway speed. it will free up after coasting to the side of the freeway and sitting for several minutes with car idling, but can then get stuck yet again after several minutes at highway speeds. this creates extremely deadly situations! i called ford and they said there is no recall for this vehicle and i also went to the local ford dealer they claim to have never heard of this problem and have no idea what could cause it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 60 mph, the accelerator pedal seized and caused the vehicle to erroneously accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
Backing out of garage car died. trying to accelerate at stop lights tries to die hesitates jerks theft light cones on. upon trying to accelerate to enter freeway same thing and when trying to pass a car. came upon s hill and it almost died n would not go over 50 mph almost causing wrecks very scary day. earlier in week died a couple times while idling but this accelerating problem is hazardous. if it is throttle body which it probably is from what i'm reading on the internet. please do a recall and fix this!!!!!!!! *tr
Saturday, november 23, 2013 i left home to do errands as i drove down to the first intersection and stopped when the light turned green the gas pedal with not move it was stuck, i tried to push it down with both feet but that didn't work either, finally after pumping the pedal the car lunged forward and i made it through the intersection. i decided to go back home and not drive this car. as i travel through the intersection and down the road i tried to accelerate again the pedal stuck. i'm on a 35 mph highway and i slowed to a terrifying 3mph before the pedal would work again. this is a safety issue! from what i have been reading this is a problem for many and there should be some sort of investigation or recall before someone get seriously injured or a fatal accident happens! *tr
I pulled into 45 mph traffic and the throttle seemed to be stuck open and did not slow when my foot was removed from the accelerator. i pressed up and down on the accelerator with my left foot on the brake and was able to slow and pull to the side of the road. when trying to put the vehicle in motion again, the accelerator could not be budged. i was towed to a local mechanic and he cleaned the throttle body. i have been problem free for 4-5 months but am noticing a sticking problem again. i have seen online that this is a prevalent problem with this model. i called ford but their customer satisfaction program which helps with the replacement of the throttle body is currently only for model years 2009-2012. this is dangerous, control of the vehicle is greatly affected. *tr
The gas pedal sticks some time, both when starting out and or trying to accelerate. the gas pedal sticks and if you apply a little more pressure it then kind of click past the place where it sticks, often causing the engine to race. it is uncomfortable trying to start-up in traffic, or keeping a constant speed, as the pedal seems to have that resistance just when you need to give it just a little gas, but suddenly you have given it too much in overcoming the sticking. it actually started at about 30,000 miles, and seems to get worse when it is colder. *tr
The gas pedal was stuck after mashing on it hard it broke loose when approching a stop sign i stopped and try to go again but gas pedal was stuck why is there not a recall. i also have transmission and rearend problems but they both are costly repairs i am concerned about the gas pedal please fix it before someone gets hurt there really should be a recall on it
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the throttle body needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 152,000.
I have had problems with my ford escape for a few months. generally when at a stop my engine would rev really high. after this went on for awhile now when applying the brake or at a stop the idling goes so low i'm afraid it's going to stall. i have had a mechanic test it and put it on an analyzer but the analyzer doesn't show a problem. i finally had the throttle motor replaced but it is still idling too low at times. this problem is intermittent and seems to be no rhyme or reason when it will start doing it. i'm at a loss on how to fix it but it's pretty unsafe to be driving at times. *tr
1. while driving on freeway using cruise control, i tapped the brake to disengage. cruise control did not disengage but instead the car accelerated and i almost hit the car in front of me. very scary and dangerous. 2. two days later when i got in my car to leave, the gas pedal was completely stuck like there was an invisible rock under the pedal. my friend followed the gas pedal cable under the hood and removed the black cover and un-froze (un-stuck) the end of the cable so i can at least get the car back home. i was up-north at that time and very scared driving the car home because what if this happens when i'm going at a freeway speed. i promptly leased a new car because these two issues scared the heck out of me. i still have the car but would like it to get repaired. i contacted ford hqs on 10/25/2013 to communicate the issues i experienced and to assist in resolution as i do know there were re-calls on other escapes with the same issue. they stated my car was not one of the cars under re-call for this issue. i further expressed that the car should as there are many others with a 2005 escape with the same complaints as i researched the web. she stated if there is a recall in the future i would receive a letter in the mail. i asked is there anyone else i could accelerate this issue to and she stated my issue is documented in the system. the repair for this issue is very expensive. why is the re-call not covered on 2005 escapes but on 2004 escapes? my 2005 escape was actually built in 2004. according to ford hqs, my vin# does not come up for the re-call!!! can you help me out on this and for others with the same issue? just search the web and you will see many people with the same complaints and dangers of this. thank you. *tr
Program 13n03 throttle body issues gas pedal locks up, jolts forward. *tr
My wife was driving all of sudden vehicle kept accelerating without her foot being on the gas pedal. she was traveling at 25mph when vehicle accelerated to 45mph on its own. she had to take action to avoid having an accident. the vehicle now will rev high when first turning on vehicle. the longer vehicle runs the higher the engine revs and increases speed on its own. *tr
While driving on the interstate at appx 70 mph i heard a beep and at the same time the dash indicated a wrench, and message to stop safely now, and the car would no longer accelerate. pulled over and shut the engine off, waited a few minutes then restarted the engine. the message was no longer on the dash and the car drove normally for a few minutes then happened again. this went on several times until i could get to a place where i felt safe to stop. brought the car in and they replaced the hybrid cooling pump. now, 1 yr later the same thing is happening again. was driving appx 50 mph and same beep, message and car would not accelerate. this time i was close enough to home to be able to restart and get home safely. *tr
I have a random incident with my ford escape 2005, where at times when on cruise control, the engine will accelerate unexpectedly. after many years of driving, and attempting to file a complaint about the issue with ford but refused as it wasn't reproducible when allotted, i think this issue occurs because the cruise control has self adjusted itself when towing a trailer. but after detaching the trailer and taking the truck for a long hilly ride, the engine computer may think it's still towing a trailer and strongly accelerate the engine when going uphill with the cruise control on. this is only based on what i have experience, and include no computer log examination. not the best thing to happen if a police car is around, and being a safe driver. i'm not too concerned about this issue, as i self manage the issue. (tend to self manage a lot of things these days.) this vehicle has served me quite well, except for a loud knock on the front drive axle on this awd - likely a bad bearing that they didn't fix when they fixed it initially. shrugs. *tr
My pregnant girl friend was driving the ford escape to work, when the gas pedal got stuck to the floor and would not release for about 30 seconds then about two miles down the road it did it again for the same amount of time. after that she parked and had it towed to find out we had a defective throttle body that ford will not cover under there recall. *tr
2005 ford escape has a critical safety issue with the gas pedal completely locking up. sometimes tapping pedal will free it. as of 3/5/2013 i am not allowing my daughter to use this vehicle. this has been an ongoing problem. we have had the vehicle towed only to have the mechanic unable to identify the cause. from what i have seen on the web, this appears to be a very common issue. ford should be responsible for determining the cause and issue a recall asap, before someone is seriously injured or worse. *tr
Our 2005 ford escape has a surging problem.when stopped at a light, every once in a while the engine will suddenly speed up.to keep it from moving forward you have to press hard on the brake pedal.a ford dealership wanted $85.00 to diagnose the problem.this is unacceptable for a safety problem. *tr
The gas pedal is "sticking." it won't depress. throttle body problem. *tr
My gas peddle sticks, it is happening more and more. i almost got rear ended by another vehicle the other day, it is sticking on a daily basis now. *tr
I was driving up to a stop light so i removed my foot from the gas and to the brake, before i could get to the red light it changed to green, i went to press on the gas and the pedal was stuck. it would not go down nothing. i coasted to the side of the busy highway kept trying to press it and it wouldn't go down. after about 5 mins of just sitting there i tried it again and it went down without a problem. this vehicle was recalled in the prior years for this exact issue 2004 and below. however my 2005 is not recalled. it is now at the ford dealership and i am waiting on a cost estimate. the vehcile did tend to do this from time to time only when its cold outside. i took it in several years ago to be repaird and when they test drove it, it woudn't stick for them so no issue was found for them to repair. *tr
While traveling northbound on interstate 476 car suddenly lost power and would refuse to accelerate over 10 mph. luckily it was early on a sunday morning, and not high-traffic time, we successfully pulled the car over to the shoulder. our mechanic has been working on and researching the issue. turns out ford is aware and has issued a "service bulletin" that the computer is faulty, and affects the catalytic converters, spark plugs, and coils. a quick search on car complaints told us we were not the only ones, and it appears to be a time rather than mileage failure. while most are complaining about the minimum $2,000 fix, we are thankful it did not cause harm to us or anyone else. how many 2005 ford escapes are on the roads these days? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the accelerator pedal seized and failed to release. the vehicle failed to slow down. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the gear was shifted into park and the engine was turned off. after restarting, the failure persisted. the vehicle was towed to the residence. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 102,000. the vin was unavailable.
Several times, the accelerator pedal would stick to the point that i could stand on it and it would not budge. it happens most frequently in colder weather but the temperature of the car has no effect. there is no real pattern to when it won't work. ford recommended replacing the throttle body, however after researching, the throttle body is not something that is normally replaced at this mileage. *tr
My car's gas pedal felt like it became stuck, almost feeling like the car was in neutral even though it was in drive. i was on a hill. then suddenly it sped off fast with a jolt. our mechanic said it needs a new throttle. after doing research on my car's make & model, it appears that this has been an ongoing concern. it's very dangerous. *tr
After totaling a 2004 escape, i purchased another 2005 escape because i loved it. well not so much anymore. i bought the vehicle from a dealership in september 2012. only three short months later i started having the exact same problem i am reading in all complaints. i tried to push on the gas and nothing. it was misfiring bad. i then took it too a shop and they told me coils 1, 3, and 5 were out and needed to be replaced. the dealership wanted close too $2,000 to repair it. i was furious because i had bought my 2004 from the same dealership and my family alone had purchased a total of 6 vehicles from the dealership. i was a loyal customer and was not going to pay to have it fixed. so they split the cost of $1000 with me. now it is acting up again and i've replaced the fuel filter and the thermostat bc that's what the computer said only for it to still not be running. i am a single mother, college student, and server and it's 2 days before christmas so i am very disappointed! fix the problem ford!! *tr
Recurrent problem: the sudden inability to accelerate because the gas pedal won't budge. the throttle cable is binding somewhere. a couple of years ago the throttle cable snapped on our 2005 ford escape, breaking off behind the accelerator pedal inside the cabin. (we had taken the car in for this hard-to-press-gas-pedal problem when the car was very new, and at the time the dealership did not discover the cause and could not reproduce the problem.) after it snapped, the cable was replaced by the ford dealership at our (considerable) expense. now the gas pedal is once again refusing to budge several times on each drive, and we have to take the vehicle in again for inspection. the sudden inability to accelerate increases the likelihood of rear-end collisions. if the throttle cable binds as you're merging onto a highway, a high speed rear-end collision could occur. if you're unable to accelerate as you're crossing a road where cross traffic does not have to stop, you can be a sitting duck for a broadside collision. *tr
I was driving on the highway going about 65 mph. when i tried to press down on the gas it was stuck i could not accelerate. i pressed as hard as i could and it was stuck. i had to put it in neutral and pull over. *tr
