Recently reported ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING problems on 2005 Ford Escape

I was coming back to home from work driving on highway at 55-60 mph and suddenly my car starts decelerating itself and i was forced to pull it over on the shoulder, i was lucky that not one hit me. i completely turned the engine off and then i tried to start again, it started making cranking sound but did not start completely, so i had to call the towing truck to tow the car to my home. it could have been worse, i am lucky to be alive, i am not sure how can the vehicle can stall in the middle of the driving. it was scary. *tr

Was pulling away from a stop light and vehicle wouldn't go over 20 mph but no check engine light is on, it's not high idling or over heating. a week prior the check engine light was on and was told i had a mis fire on a cylinder and i replaced the spark plug and ignition coil and the engine light went off. *tr

i was going to work entering interstate 80 near vallejo, ca when as i was about to merge onto the freeway the vehicle became gradually unresponsive. i had to pull to the right where the car stalled and would not restart after several attempts. i then proceeded to have the vehicle inspected and was informed that the catalytic converters were defective and needed to be replaced. *tr

Have taken auto to two different mechanics have gotten a lot of different results. have paid quite a bit still have problems with auto coasting then stalling & conking out all together. would like to know if there has been recall on issue.. thank you *tr

Complaint one: excessive rusted passenger side rear wheel well and strut mount, strut mount broke away. complaint two: rusted engine cradle caused passenger side front half shaft to separate from center of the car causing the to stop moving foreword and loss of steering. *tr

I've always been a staunch defender of the ford brand...until now. the more research i did on the link between faulty factory-installed spark plugs and pcm failure, and fords knowledge of this link from the get-go, the angrier i become. there is a tsb out on this "known" issue however the warranty period only extends up to 80,000 miles. pretty convenient since the average failure marker is 98k miles. also convenient that ford waited until 99.99% of all affected drivers would be outside of their "warranty" period before graciously extending said "warranty". hogwash. i consider myself fortunate that my failure did not cause an accident (because you know, loss of all electrical control at 70 mph is not high on my bucket list). i brought it into my mechanic . diagnostics was the # 3 coils was bad. it was replaced and retested. it showed that it was good but the next coil was bad and the engine light was still on. we took the car to ford and was told that the pcm was bad and needs to be replaced 2,100 later still having issues. on the way home from the shop i noticed it was still hesitating slightly, but nothing like it was .no, it will not last forever but known issues such as these really chap my hide!!! this has soured me off ford forever at this point. disappointing, dangerous and downright deceptive. why won't ford do a recall on this? safety is an issue.... *tr

My car went to shop for exhaust repair when the front y pipe was removed my mechanic saw a large hole rusted through the frame(front engine cradle).frame was repaired by welding it. the rest of car frame appeared ok. car only has 80k miles and is well maintained. this shouldn't have happened. not there has been a recall on 2004 and earlier ford escapes for the same problem i feel the 2005 should be included in this recall as its obvious to me they have the same problems. *tr

The engine began misfiring and the check engine light was illuminated. upon inspection at the ford dealer they determined that all 6 coils and the powertrain control module had failed. the cost to repair was $2750.00. ford is aware that many of these vehicles are having this problem but will not assist the owners in any way.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that there was extensive rust and corrosion on the rear wheel wells and the frame, which caused the exhaust manifold to rust prematurely. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear wheel wells, the frame and the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. the vin was not available.

I have had problems with my ford escape for a few months. generally when at a stop my engine would rev really high. after this went on for awhile now when applying the brake or at a stop the idling goes so low i'm afraid it's going to stall. i have had a mechanic test it and put it on an analyzer but the analyzer doesn't show a problem. i finally had the throttle motor replaced but it is still idling too low at times. this problem is intermittent and seems to be no rhyme or reason when it will start doing it. i'm at a loss on how to fix it but it's pretty unsafe to be driving at times. *tr

While driving at approximately 40 mph, the car shook and died. i pulled into the turn lane and some helpful people assisted me in pushing my car to the nearest parking lot. i had my car towed to the mechanic that told me that i needed to have my engine coils and plugs replaced and that ford had put out a bulletin explaining this problem. after they fixed that, i learned that i also had to have the computer replaced because the engine coils and plugs caused a problem with the computer. i decided to search the internet to see if anyone else was having the same problem. i found many websites and forums explaining the very same problem occurring in other 2005 ford escapes. it seems that if this many people are having the same exact problem (enough for ford to put out a bulletin explaining how to fix it), then ford should take steps to rectify the situation. from the information i have found, there is a manufacturing defect that does not show up until well after the warranty is no longer good. this is a problem that is occurring to many people who have the exact same car and ford should do more than explain how to fix it. a recall is necessary because the problem is the caused by faulty manufacturing. *tr

I was headed home from work and got on the free way i noticed when i would accelerate my car would start shaking. i called my mechanic and he said to try and make it home when my car died twice but luckily i was able to get it started again to make it home. i got a diagnostics done on it to find out that the computer had burnt out along with 4 of the 6 coils. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that the check engine light would illuminate sporadically. the dealer diagnosed that the spark plugs and pcm module failed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied any assistance with repair to the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 82,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and diagnosed by an independent mechanic. the mechanic informed the contact that the ecm, six coil packs and spark plugs would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

My cars computer (pcm) and four out of six coils burnt out due to faulty plugs i'm told. i was on the interstate when my cars engine just cut off and had to try and roll away from traffic without power steering. ford has known about this problem and hasn't made a recall yet. it is costing me over 2000 dollars to get fixed and i've been reading that it has happened to other people multiple times. i could have been seriously injured. *tr

2nd spark plug failure. *tr

Driving along at 50-55mph on busy road at rush hour. 2005 escape was running smoothly and all of a sudden there was a rumbling vibration and then it completely lost power and stopped. fortunately, i was driving in the right lane and was approaching a traffic light. managed to turn right at the intersection to get out of heavy flow of traffic. was able to start the car again but the rumbling continued and the car had no pick up. took vehicle to my mechanic. machine indicated a and c coils were bad. replaced a and c coils, problem still. mechanic said it might be the computer but said take car to ford dealer for diagnostic check to be sure. took car to a ford service dept. for diagnostic. was told that the problem was in the a and c coils and plugs. when i said i already had those replaced, he immediately said "then those parts must be bad and/or the wires are bad and they would have to trace all wires to find bad ones and replace them". the estimated cost for the repair $1100. i asked if the problem could be the computer. service rep said, "oh, no computer is not the problem". paid $100 for diagnostic check. took car back to my mechanic, he traced all the wires and did not find a single bad wire. according to my mechanic, the only other thing it could be, based on the way the car is acting, is the computer. i priced a computer. it costs about $495. so the quote from the dealership now makes more sense considering that the cost of the computer is about half of the $1100 they said it would cost to trace wires and replace plugs and coils. so based on the ford service dept diagnosis, conversation and quote, ford knows this is a problem with the 2005 ford escapes. my daughter and i could have been severely injured or killed because the car stopped suddenly while we were moving at 50 mph. this is a manufacture/assembly defect that should be recalled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph and without warning, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and took the vehicle to a private mechanic where it was inspected. the mechanic advised that the coil pack failed due to computer failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 150,000.

Sudden engine failure while driving approximately 50 mph. told by mechanic it was a "fried" computer caused by incorrect spark plugs (original factory-installed). will have to replace pcm, coils and plugs. *tr

Our 2005 ford escape has been meticulously maintained at the dealer where it was purchased. this can be verified by checking the service records at dale jarrett ford, indian trail, nc. on 2/25/12, the vehicle was diagnosed as having an oil leak between the main engine block and the crankshaft cradle. the seal between these two foundational structural parts of the engine is a simple applied bead of silicone sealant, rather than a fixed gasket. because of the location of the leak, we were told that the most cost effective repair is to completely replace the engine, rather than incur the labor charges of totally disassembling the engine to repair this seal. the projected cost for this repair is $4,000.00 to $5,000.00. we feel this is a premature and catastrophic failure of a design component of the vehicle's engine. ford motor company, by direct communication, has offered no assistance in the repair of this problem, per their company policy. our contention is that this is a defect in design and workmanship on the part of ford motor company and warrants a recall for vehicles found to have this problem. *tr

My wife went to on a trip and the vehicle started to misfire, went to a ford dealer, mechanic identified the problem; ignition coil #4 failed. she asked what needed done to fix properly so she would be safe and have no more trouble. he said to replace coil, plugs, and wires. that was done. on the way home it happened again, car shut off w/o warning on i95 @65 mph. problem persisted and finally would not start and had to be towed. my mechanic discovered ford srb 09-2-6. a problem identified by ford but not made public. i contacted dealer; he was aware of srb but did not act on it or inform us about it. we are now faced with a bill 2x larger than it would have been if dealer would have followed srb. he put my wife at risk (nearly had a few accidents) and ford and the nhtsa are putting people at undue risk by not making this info. public and specific to owners of these vehicles. a failure of this magnitude, identified as a problem from the factory should be recalled and ford should complete repairs at no cost to the owner. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle would misfire at any time. the dealer diagnosed that the spark plugs, coil and computer failed and would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 123,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving 65 mph. the vehicle vibrated and the check engine light illuminated while the failure occurred. the contact also noticed smoke rising from under the hood. the vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer. the dealer stated that metal particles penetrated the engine and the engine would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and the current mileages were. 80,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle would vibrate violently while driving at various speeds. the dealer diagnosed that the motor mounts would need replacing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and he current mileage was 53,423.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact was driving 50 mph when the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic for a diagnostic test. the mechanic stated that the spark plugs were installed incorrectly and affected the electronic control module. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 127,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to shake vigorously and stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician advised the contact that coil pack number one needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that in an attempt to start the vehicle, the vehicle would begin to smoke and stall without warning. the dealer diagnosed that there was a short in the spark plugs, causing the vehicle to stall. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 68,200. updated 02/09/12*lj the vehicle was reaired. updated 02/13/12

#5 spark plug blew out of cyl head causing minor fire from fuel in cylinder when injector fired. could have been major, have heard many other ford owners with same problem. *tt

In my 2005 ford escape xlt v6 3.0l on 11/16/11, i was driving east bound on i55 towards chicago at approximately 55 mph when the engine started bad misfiring and the completely died (no power or engine). with no power steering and no brakes, i attempted to steered toward the shoulder. i waited about 10 minutes and tried to restart and was unable. i had the vehicle towed to roesch ford 333 w grand ave bensenville, il 60106. i was advised by the service manager that the engine was misfiring on 4 of the 6 cylinders and that they would need to replace the pcm, 6 coils, 6 plugs and calibrate, total $2,114.21. i decided to do some research online and found numerous people experiencing the same problem. there are multiple tsb: tsb 05-11-1,tsb 09-02-06 tsb 09-02-06 and tsb 10-18-10. the problem is: the wrong spark plugs were installed at the factory. this combo of wrong plugs causes the coils to send emi/rfi back to the pcm (powertrain control module) burning out the pcm.emi/rfi is emitted from sparking device,in this case a set of bad spark plugs. this causes the vehicle to miss-fire, lose power, or in many cases, have total engine failure. wrong spark plugs/bad cop's/un-shielded pcm box/poorly engineered & un-tested, multi-changed, rare pcm and it's the $12.50 radio frequency interference device. multiple online complaints/problems: http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2005/electrical/powertrain_control_module_pcm_failure.shtml http://www.fordforumsonline.com/forum/ford-escape/643-2005-ford-escape-pcm-ecm-computer-failure.html http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199403 repaired. then check engine light. now it needs 2 catalytic converters $2,500 because of pcm/coil. total $4,500 numerous complaints extreme safety issue! 2005 ford escape. consumer states problems with vehicle stalling while driving. *tgw

Driving along interstate engine suddenly lost power, would not go above 20mph, no check engine light. took to repair shop and first catalytic converter completely clogged, number 2 converter partially clogged. vehicle only has 84,000 miles. warranty expired at 80,000 miles for exhaust. repair shop this happens a lot for these vehicles. *tr

This 2005 escape failed when driving through the mountains in northern california. ford has documented that spark plugs installed by ford at the factory can cause all coils and the pcm to fail as they did in this case. three tsb's have been generated related to this problem. my car was repaired under warranty at approximately 60000 miles and the plugs were not checked and replaced as required in the ford tsb's. this was an expensive $2300 + repair that ford should take responsibility for. good faith was not demonstrated in solving this problem and ford refuses to acknowledge their responsibility. *tr

Catalytic converters and flex pipe the catalytic converters have been diagnosed as having significant restriction to cause dramatic power loss to the vehicle while driving. this condition causes abnormal back pressures in the exhaust system which also causes multiple misfires and sets the check engine light. the flex pipe is also defective and leaks. i have owned many ford vehicles through the years. one was a 1994 lincoln town car with over 400,000 miles. another was a 1998 town car with over 200,000 miles. never once did i have to replace anything on the exhaust system, especially catalytic converters (the most expensive part in the system). this is unacceptable and a recall needs to be initiated to resolve this. not only is this a safety and moral issue but an environmental on as well. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostics, where the mechanic stated that the hard drive in the engine control module failed and the engine control module would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

While out of town sunday july 10th 2011, 300 miles from home my 2005 ford escape caught on fire, od 90046. we got in the car started it up and then when looking at the map i looked up and smoke was pouring out from under the hood. as i jumped out the door came back and gouged my nose open. while bleeding all over the place i opened the hood and poured water over the fire. the car had caught on fire just under the rear side of the intake manifold. after extinguishing the fire, i called the local santa maria ford dealer, who only offered our service department will be open tomorrow. i had the vehicle towed to the dealer that day and while there decided to have my wife look at a new car. regardless of the fact that i put the flames out early and i as a maintenance officer with 24 years experience i could have fixed the car, i wanted my wife to have a new car so when i leave her behind for my next duty station in the marine corps and deploy, i would not have any worries. the sales experience was what i expected but my biggest issues were that, although the service department was closed, out of luck, yea right, the service manager stopped by to work on his rv and assisted in the appraisal of my 2005 escape then left before i knew he was there. due to the ford defect, fire damage, they offered my $2,000 for a trade in. i talked them into around $4,200. i had a car that cost me $28,000 six years ago and due to a defect i got around $4,200 for it in great shape, except the very small fire damage> luckily we had the fire in a parking lot not while on a back road, off road, traffic jam. from research earlier escape models have a history of engine fires, and some of the later, but nothing to date on the 2005. ford corporate has yet to contact me about my complaint, i am asking them to acknowledge the problem and hope they would compensate me for the lost value in my trade in due to some type of obvious defect in their product. case # [xxx] information redacted pursuant to ...

I was on my way to work in the morning on a busy highway. just got into the passing lane and the whole thing died right there in the passing lane. thank god no one was very close to me and that there was a policeman coming down the mountain and saw me. he pulled behind me to block the lane. this was a very unsafe situation. if someone would have been close in back of me, they would have ass-ended me or would have had to quickly get in another lane or oncoming traffic. i had to have the vehicle towed to the garage. replaced the spark plugs, all 6 coils and the computer was fried. after a bit of research online, i saw that there are many complaints about this unsafe issue with the 2005 escape. some suddenly stopping on the interstate. from what i have read, it is due to the spark plugs ford installed in the 2005 escape. not understanding why there is no recall. this is a very unsafe situation, that ford can stop by putting out a recall. would they rather have a law suite when someone loses their life due to their negligence that can be prevented. this was a quite an expensive bill that i had to pay which could have been prevented if ford would have issued a recall. i will think twice before buying another ford. *tr

Nothing let up to the failure. car died while pulling out in traffic. was told it was the coil packs gone bad. replaced them. then told the catalytic converter burn out when the coils went. come to find out this is a issue for is aware of on the 2005 escape. i was almost rear ended when this happened and has a hard time getting off the road. no indication it was going to stall. this is a safety issue on these cars. i have already put out close to $200.00 and its still not fixed. it also has blown up my computer in the car. i was scared to death and very lucky that i was not hit. ford is aware of this problem and will do nothing about it. what will it take for some action to be taken? somebody getting killed before ford is made to do something with this issue. *tr

I am a wedding photographer and while traveling about 4.5 hours away from home to shoot a wedding i had problems about 2 hours into my trip. i was on interstate 20 just outside of columbia, sc. i was in the left hand lane behind a semi truck, there was another semi truck in the right lane beside me and behind me i had a large van. i was going about 65-70 when suddenly, the car lost all power including the steering and all the warning lights blinked on. i somehow regained control of the car by shifting in neutral and restarting. i hate to think what would have happened had i not been able to react as fast as i did as the van behind me had to slam on his breaks to keep from hitting me. once the semi truck was cleared of the right lane i got over and turned on my flashers. since i had it running i was too scared to pull over on the side. i got to my nearest exit and pulled over. i turned off the vehicle and all the warning lights went off except the abs and the check engine light. i restarted and drove about a mile to a mechanic. they could not see anything wrong but heard the misfire. the car was towed to classic ford in columbia, sc. i had to rent a car to finish my trip as i couldn't let down a couple about to be married. i just got the estimate to the tune of over $2700.00. it's the pcm module along with coil, spark plugs and a few other things. i am now debating about weather to fix it or not as all the reviews i have read it seems like people continue to have problems after it's fixed. it sounds like ford really needs to figure out a way to fix this chronic problem before someone dies in an accident.

2005 ford shuts off after long distance or no distance shutter like you are pushing in a clutch but this is manuel drive than shuts down dealer says they can't find problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving on the highway the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to local mechanic who diagnosed that two of the plugs and coils were defective as a result the computer was damaged and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance with the repair. the vehicle identification number was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 54,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving approximately 25 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. whenever the failure recurred, the gear was shifted into neutral or park in order to restart the engine. the failure recurred thirty times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

I started my car at work and left to go pick up my daughter, i wasn't driving hard or fast just going slow, and all of a sudden i heard a large explosion, i had to pull my car over because it had become loud and unable to drive. i opened the hood and found that a spark plug had shot out of the hole in the head of my car. the spark plug had actually dented the hood of my car when it shot out. my car has been very very well maintained. this has never happened before. this is an unsafe and scary experience. they say that it could cost $3500 to $4000 to fix by replacing the head because the threads stripped and ford knows this is a problem. ford needs to fix this, before someone does get hurt! *tr

Email from senator on behalf of constituent re concerns with her 2005 ford escape automobile (design of the powertrain control module computer). *kb the consumer stated while driving, all the lights on the dashboard illuminated. when she arrived at the repair shop, the mechanic performed a diagnostics test where it was determined that a cylinder was not firing. after further examination, it was discovered the power control module was damaged. *jb

While driving our 2005 ford escape, we were on the highway, in the acceleration lane, traveling approximately 45 miles an hour accelerating up to 55, the vehicle suddenly shuttered, and then died, the check engine, overdrive, abs, and airbag lights illuminated on the console. i had to hit the hazard lights and put the vehicle into neutral narrowly avoiding being hit by a tractor trailer truck. i was able to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder. i attempted to restart the vehicle and while it restarted it was misfiring and check engine light was on. the vehicle was unable to move under its own power. we were on the side of a highway with our 4 year old daughter in the car during morning rush hour. thankfully we were not hit and killed by this ford engine failure. *tr

March 2011. i was driving down the highway and my vehicle acted like a hiccup or misfire. i thought it was a fluke, but it happened again a few miles later then all of the sudden, it started chugging really bad and eventually died. it was after midnight on a very low traveled area and i had my two year old in the car with me. luckily it started back up and i was able to drive a few more miles (thank god) to a hotel for the night. if this would have happened 45 minutes earlier. i would have been an hour to the nearest town! not a great feeling with a toddler in the car, an unfamiliar road, and after business hours. come to find out it was the coil packs at first, so we replaced two of them like the mechanic suggested. then they called and said that didn't fix the problem and we now needed a new computer. not knowing any different, we replaced the computer. just last friday the same exact thing happened to me. so this would be six coil packs and two computers in a year. not happy! we do not have the money to keep making repairs like this. not a huge ford fan at this point...and very sick to my stomach to read soooo many complaints about similar situations from others all across the country. there are a lot of hard working people out there who can't afford to have vehicle malfunctions like we're having. someone is going to get killed if they haven't already with this uncertain problem occurring! please do something! *kb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while driving approximately 30 mph up a hill the check engine light began illuminating before the vehicle stalled. within a few minutes the contact was able to restart the vehicle but the vehicle would accelerate with minimal speed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where three ignition coils were replaced. the vehicle continued to drive with minimal speed and the contact was then told that the engine computer needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 117,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford escape. while stopped at a traffic stop, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the failure recurred sporadically. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician stated that the torque converter would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 67,064. updated 02/15/12*bf updated 03/16/12

In december 2010, my 2005 ford escape limited starting misfiring at 79,000 miles and the service emissions system message came on. i took it to a ford dealership and they couldn't get the light to come back on or any error codes to appear. the next day, the misfiring happened again and the ford dealership diagnosed it as a bad prc computer. ford replaced the main computer, under warranty, at about 79,900 miles. the misfire went away for about 3 weeks and then recurred at 82,000 miles. this time, the car dramatically lost power, will not properly shift into gear, shakes when idling and maxes out at about 30 mph on any hill. the service emissions message and check engine light are constantly on. i took it to the same ford dealership and they stated the coil packs are all misfiring and causing the main computer to fry. they stated that all 6 coils need replaced at a cost of $900, and the main computer also needs replaced again. the computer replacement will be free, because it was just replaced 3 weeks ago when the part was still covered under an 80,000 mile warranty. the regular cost to replace the computer would have been around $950. *tr

The first issue i had with my car was in december of 2010. i immediately took my car to a repair place and they told me that the coils and the plugs were out and that they needed to be replaced. i assumed that this was just time to get this repaired because my car was right over the 100,000 mile mark. everything seemed fine until may of 2011 when the problem returned. this time i took my car to a ford service center. this time i noticed that my car would run ok up to about 35 mph and then after that speed it would start jerking. if i take my foot off the gas it stops, but if i leave my foot on the gas and continue to accelerate, the car shuts off completely. i haven't taken my car anywhere that i have to drive over 45mph but recently i noticed that if i try to accelerate past 35, that instead of jerking to turn my car off, the harder i push the gas, it feels like i am pushing the brake with that same intensity when i haven't even touched the brake. im afraid that while pushing the gas, the car is going to brake and that someone else is going to slam into the back of my car and hurt my 2 yr old son in his carseat in the back. i avoid driving this car unless i absolutely have to because it is dangerous. it seems that many other owners of the same car i have are having the same or a similar issue. this really needs to be checked into because ford is aware that this is a common issue but will do nothing about it. it seems like they are waiting for someone to get hurt before the assume responsibility. *tr
