Problems with 2005 Ford Escape UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2005 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 129 888 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2005 Ford Escape

Back window latches metal on the hinges of window completely rotted out, every time car is driven i have to worry about the window sliding out, i cannot open the window because it will fall right out. i know other years of the same make have had the same issue.

Cross over on passenger side rusted in half, the exact same thing that waste called on the 2001-2004,my wife was driving with two of my grandchildren with her when it broke, this is very dangerous and serious situation,i feel ford should fix my vehicle,it was manufactured in2004,i will take it to court if necessary, innocent people could get killed,it is the exact same recall as the year before and was manufactured in that year of the recall my escape has no other rust on it anywhere,i have pics to prove it,my wife was just getting ready to turn into a driveway from a city street

Subframe on passenger's side rotted/ rusted, broke suddenly while driving down busy road and was unable to steer

Front sub frame on passenger side rusted threw and went into ditch because was not able steer

There were a few incidents where my 2005 ford escape was stationary/ in park and it said that my car was in reverse. when i put my car in reverse sometimes it would go into drive. there was another incident where i was in park and my car randomly went from park to reverse to neutral and back to park on its own. lastly, when i try to reverse it would not reverse and stay in neutral.

Excessive wheel well/shock tower rust located in the rear passenger side. i have heard a clunking sound when driving; brought it to my garage; they showed me the pictures of huge gaps in the wheel well that were completely rusted out. my understanding is there was a recall on ford escapes (2001-2004) but ford forgot to do a recall on the 2005 escape model. this is a very common problem with my vehicle.

This 2005 ford escape(and others according to the internet) completely shut off while i was driving. i was merging onto a highway going 60 mph and it just shut off. luckily i was able to pull over and 2 cars narrowly missed me. it just completely killed w/o any notice which is an extremely dangerous condition because i, or someone else, could've easily have been hurt.

Driving 65 mph on the interstate my 05 escape began to skip, stall & died, anti theft light came on. i drive for 20 miles slow with it skipping and stalling. when i left off on gas it would continue to run until i made it to safe place. attempted to drive for repair on state hwy it stalled and went dead. ford dealership reprog keys- repaired drive off, barely off the lot and it quit again. now i see this is a manufactures issue with 05 escapes after an online search. new ford diagnosis- new plugs & coil pack, intake gasket. 170,000 miles. my alarm randomly goes off too which could be related to electrical issues. ford motor is liable if someone's vehicle stalls and is killed due to this problem they know about but have not corrected or recalled.

Last year i noticed the rust around doors and wheels, im retired & a disabled 77 yr old man so i drive it once a week. over the summer i notice it handling funny, had it serviced and inspected. i was on route 30 a mile from my house it started shaking & making a horrible noise, the steering wheel was vibrating, i barely managed getting wheels to turn it off the hwy, i thought to myself, this [xxx] thing feels like it's gonna fall apart, home was 1/4 mile, noise & vibrating continued, struggled turning wheel into my driveway, parked it, got out and front passenger side wheel is tilted way out. my son jacked it up and said my lower control arm is completely rusted out or thru and broken off and it is all rusted bad underneath & said it's scrape. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have had to replace the flex pipe at exactly once a year, every october for the last 7 years. i think this may be something to look into. also the rear wheel wells rusting out along with shocks. i once again have holes in the right wheel well

Hit a pothole and my shock/strut punched thru the rusted wheel well and detached otaelf...it is np longer safe to drive and ive only had the car for 2 months. and here the 2001-2004 escapes have been recalled for just this reason? why not the 2005 when the whole body design is the same... i had a 2001 escape before this that was rusting on the outside wheel wells and beginning to rust inside as well... due to this i dont believe i will be buying fords anymore... i was in the car with my kids when this happened! and now im stuck with a giant piece of metal sitting in my parking spot as no one will take on the job and if they do it would be a min of $2000 or more!

I was driving home when i noticed a loud bumping noise... my back passenger wheel well is completely rusted away, which has affected my shock mounting bracket. every little bump causes it to shake and about a week ago the bracket actually went through the plastic and there is a hole inside the back of the vehicle. i see so many identical complaints and its very disappointing that ford has done nothing to resolve this issue. i know that the ford escape 2001- 2004 were recalled for this exact issue and its disconcerting that they are ignoring the same problem for the 2005-2008 escape. how many more thousands of complaints is it going to take for them to at least investigate this unsafe, reoccurring issue?! hopefully , something will be done soon before someone gets seriously injured.

While driving the car on the freeway the car jolted. after 3-5 more miles the car kepped jolting as if it wanted to die then lost all power, even the emergency lights wouldnt come on. once i turned the car off it turned back on fine then continued the process. the car for no apparent reason died on the freeway and i could have been in an accident to where my life was almost lost. i made it to my mechanic shop they ran the care for codes and no codes came up at all. my mechanic has done research and found that some 2005-2008 fored escapes have recalls. he feels as my car is one because my car has the exact same symptoms as the recall. in this article i have had all of these issues.the 2005 escape has problems where the engine shuts down while driving. ford finally issued a september 2014 recall. time will tell if the recall fix really solves the problem. however the 2005 escape also has a defect where the pcm (power control module) fries at around 100k miles. ford extended the pcm warranty to 80,000 miles, but only after most owners were past the mileage limit. now owners are on the hook for the average repair cost of over $2,000 (!!)

I am trying to find out what is wrong and if there are any recalls..my suv has a vibration when i excel rate and let off it which shakes the wheel.i had it checked and they can't find anything..what is this problem,i have just bought the car in dec 17..ty

I have the same oil leak problems other customers is experiencing what the 2005 ford escape oil leak around in a cooling sensor crankshaft valve cover gaskets or seal seat as well as i'm experiencing the problem with the stalling gas pedal sticking and won't move it just stiff and i can't press it at times i am spirits the same because the other customers have had on his vehicle for these issues that i'm having and i was wondering why my vin number is not pulling up these recalls for my vin number as well as the oil leak heaven to do the overheating over the pressure pushing through the crankshaft and making a oil pressure week as well as the other problems that i have with the recall so go to customers has experience with the stick and gas pedal won't let you go nowhere is stuck

Ford recall

For the last 2 months i have been driving at highway speeds and my car will stall out when i come to slow down on the highway. my car has stalled out while exiting the highway about 4 times i took it to two separate mechanics and also to a ford and they ran it on the computer and there were no problems reported. after retrieving my car from the diagnostics my car again continue to stall six more times and then afterwards began to decelerate on the highway causing me to get in and near accident.

The message center keeps saying "rear right door ajar" and it isnt and the alarm seems to go off without any provication of any kiind, no reason. it isn't something i've done

In the process of driving home from work last saturday, i noticed wind noise coming from my sunroof. when i opened the shade to look, the glass popped out and landed who knows where. i couldn't find it and it was already dark. my car is a 2005 ford escape with a webasto hollandia 700 installed sunroof. i have tried contacting webasto north america at their number numerous times. they never return my call.

My 2005 ford escape ltd with 122k miles with no warning stalls when i come to a stop, or when i'm going less than 5 mph. the vehicle has done then same thing when i was driving 65 on my way to lax, had to pull over to the shoulder and was almost side swiped and rear ended by cars. no check engine lights illuminate, nor can the mechanic find anything wrong. after doing research i've come to learn this is a very common problem among this year and model, yet ford will not address the issue with a recall. this is dangerous, i'm scared to drive my vehicle. there are thousands of complaints on the internet about this vehicle with the same issue. something needs to be done. ford is in the know. i'd like to see some action being done.

My car is rusted out on the right rear wheel well. my shock are banging with a loud bank. the whole inside is now rusted out and the is a hole that goes to the trunk area. price are just falling out.

I was pulling out of my grandmothers driveway and heard a loud banging noise. once getting out and inspecting i noticed on the back right passenger side it was rusted out and the shock mount was detached. why are there no recalls with all the compliants? some people can't afford $1,500 repairs on a car when the manufacturers used bad undercoating.

Bought used the vehicle intermittently would stall, put in neutral it would crank right up and idle fine, until you put in gear and it would stall out, wait awhile and it would run fine, and it might go 2,3 or 4 weeks and not stall. now it will not go at all, cranks up put it in gear and it is like it is not getting fuel and stalls out. i have had it to some repair shops and they can not find any problem, but i have one mechanic telling me it is the torque converter and might as well redo transmission also. i am disabled and a veteran on a fixed income and depend on my vehicle to take me to my doctor appts, grocery store, church etc. so any help or information on this issue would be greatly appreciated, also i don't know if it makes any difference but my father worked for fmc for 48yrs.

My ford escape limited has a random problem with the shift lever button not engaging from a parked position. it's nearly impossible to make the button push in to select a gear (r, n, d). also, the ignition switch will not release the key after vehicle has started and i've arrived at destination, put the vehicle in "park." i have to struggle for several minutes to get it to finally release the key. otherwise, i have had to leave the vehicle with the key in the ignition. it's been like this for the past year or so (especially on cool/cold mornings). stereo system has a mind of its own. press any button and it will go into "load a cd" mode. why?????

Travel north on southfield service drive the truck speed up i got it to stop before hitting a truck a head of me. the light change crossing grand river making a right on to fenkell the truck speed up again under able to stop. i hit a truck in the rear i was hospitality over night.

The passenger side rear wheel well rusted out causing the strut to break through the trunk of the car . it also have bad rust on the other side wheel well. this happened while i was driving on the hwy. upon taking it to an auto body shop was told the vehicle was unsafe to drive.

The rear window of my 2005 ford escape xls just exploded today around 2:30 p.m. i had arrived about 2:15 p.m.at mcdonalds restaurant. i was sitting with a friend when an employee came into lobby looking for the owner of the gray ford escape in their parking lot. i said, "yes it is my car." employee then came and told me that the "rear window of my car was broken all over the parking lot. i went and saw what happened. i have not opened the rear gate or window in over a week. all i did was park it and in 15 minutes of being inside of mcdonalds the windshield exploded. i have read where other people with escapes & mariners have been having this problem for year. years older than my 2005 and as new as 2014 & 2015. is their a recall that ford is fixing this problem, as they obviously have known about it for years. please let me know who i contact to be reimbursed for my expense of replacing it. On nov,28,2015 9:15am me and my two year old daughter were heading to new york city on i95 north bound when my car starting making weird sounds the vehicle started to slow down as i was driving on the highway i wasn't able to move the vehicle because the gears was not working properly i was able to pull over to the right side of the highway to see what was the problem i tryed to put the vehicle in park but it didn't let me the vehicle started going in the wrong direction it want backward i put my foot on the brake but it continue to move in roll backwards i had to pull the safety brake three times for the vehicle to stop moving.

Heard a noise near rear wheel house. upon inspection it was discovered that the wheel house on the passenger rear was completely rusted to the point that the shock was just barely hanging on. the repair would cost more than the vehicle is worth. lots of complaints on same issue that ford refuses to address or correct. should be compensation and/or a recall. also looks like the same thing is happening to the other side. nice job ford!

Right rear wheel well rusted out so bad the lower control arm to the rear tire is close to separating from the vehicle subframe. car unsafe to drive

A week ago i began to have a rattling in the right rear of my escape. after tightening down and removing anything from the interior of the vehicle that could be "thunking" , the noise continued to get worse. i investigated further and discovered that the right rear wheel well had completely corroded and the shock had broken free with a large chunk of what used to be the wheel well/frame. i began researching for a recall notice and found that ford minivans from 2004-2007 also had wheel well rust problems that resulted in a recall...but nothing for the escape. my mechanic said it should not be driven until fixed because it is a safety concern. i further looked at complaints from other escape owners (at least 50 posted on line) and have learned that this exact same right rear wheel well corrosion on the 2005 model is common, dangerous and expensive to repair (my estimates range from $1000 but the frame shop will not commit until they begin work on it- they did state that this is not a new problem on fords - they have repaired others) . ford seems to be dismissive to those who have approached them, stating there is no recall so there is nothing they can do. is anyone looking into this?

Every morning the car alarm suddenly goes off until i press key fob. it happens routinely from 5 to 8 am and 8 to 9 pm. according to the internet, there are many ford escape owners who have the same issue. you can search it by "ford escape alarm goes off". this is really annoying not only for owners but also for their neighbors. although this is not critical safety issue, this is absolutely manufacturer's defect.

Was driving along city street when i went over a small bump, heard a loud thud! the wheel well on back passenger side was rusted away where the strut connects. or where it was once connected... 155,673 miles, this is my only vehicle and unsafe to drive my family in.

Sub-frame rust problem. there was a recall on 2001 to 2004 ford escape for this problem. ford motor company has recalled escape crossovers from model years 2001-2004 in states that use a lot of road salt. in affected vehicles, part of the car could suffer damage from rust and even lose steering control.

While driving in livonia, michigan out of no where my sun visor burst, getting glass on me, but more important it burst on the seat where my toddler daughter usually sit . there was no one around and no truck where an object could have dropped something on my car, i had to take the car to avis ford in southfield, michigan. they told me to take the car down the street to avis body shop. i filed an claim with my insurance company, and it is being fixed now. i want ford to be notified about this. because from what i hear, this is one of many instances that has happened with a sunroof on an 2005 ford escape and other ford cars. this is dangerous! my wife has just had major surgery. and there were many runs for her that i could not make because of this. please investigate. thank you. and be blessed. While driving i hit a pothole and the rear shock tower broke away from the car due to excessive rust.after doing reserch on this i have found that isn't an uncommon thing with this year and make and model of car but nothing is being done about it. no recalls nothing and of course its not an easy or cheap fix and my insurance at least will not cover it cause it was mechanical and didnt happen in an accident. so now i will have a car i can't fix but still have to pay forand cant drive. i would love to post the pictures of the damage but i'm unable to do so cause i would love for you to see the danger this is causing.

I was washing my ford escape when i noticed there was rust on all of the doors on the inside i just bought itand checked the carfax it said there was no rust and it looked liked a new car until about three week of haveing it and now i'm founding rust on the all of thee doors and on one of the wheel well i checked online by going to google.com and putting in 2005 ford escape rust and found a lot of people haveing problems with rust some of them even say they can see the inside of there escape and ford will not recall it and it cost a lot to fix. some cost more then the value of there escape

This vehicle was maintained regularly... there were no leaks/ no burning....no warning...the oil magically disappeared...lucky we were only traveling local and and a low speed. simply put ...the engine blew/ceased with research i have found many owners having the exact same problem. i was am shocked at the sudden engine failure and that others have the same issue, means we didn't do anything to cause this problem.

Noted at a local car repair shop that my passenger rear inner fender is rusted so bad that the metal where the shock is attached to is coming away. while driving on bumps, am now hearing loud clunking sound and no longer driving the vehicle for fear of the shock falling off. car shop stated that they've seen 12 escapes come through their place with the same issue on the same side that were 8-10 years old.

We recently purchased a 2005 ford escape. the car was working perfectly. on 5/29/15 we noticed a sound coming from the right rear wheel well. we parked and looked at the car and found the entire wheel well has rusted out so much so that the the shock mount and actual shock has separated from the car. there is now a hole where we can see through the car into the cargo area. the car is unsafe to drive and we are at a loss as to how to repair it. many other people have had this same problem (only with the right rear wheel well, the left is perfectly fine). ford has not offered any assistance to anyone and has in fact refused to acknowledge that it could be any kind of defect.

The right rear fender wheel well has rusted through also affecting the shock mount creating a loud banging in the cabin. my local ford dealer has never seen this and did not want to attempt the repair because of the cost. they also referred me to a reputable body shop in town and he also never saw this before. he suggested this website to file a complaint. i have now researched this and see a lot of other people have experienced this too. has ford done anything to fix this problem?

Excessive rust in the passenger rear wheel well (only on passenger side); completely broke away from the frame and is hanging by just the spring. unsafe to drive. ford recalled for this issue on 2001-2004 models and did not recall 2005 model, which they should have just by researching there have been many with this exact same problem. the assembly line on the passengers side did not coat the wheel well properly.

Passenger side rear wheel well (hidden area only) rusted out at the shock mount causing the shock to punch into the interior. expensive repair. sad part is that the rest of the vehicle is in very good shape, never suspected such a rusting issue like that. i see it is a common flaw of this vehicle. poor engineering of a critical mounting point. fortunately no injuries in this case, but could easily have caused panic resulting in an serious accident. very surprised this is not a ford recall item with an available manufactured reinforcing part.

According to your list of recalls there is a compliance recall for the roof the my escape and a door latch . i called ford and they state it's not on my car even though it is listed, i have a door ajar light that's stays on and doesn't allow me to lock my car because the alarm goes off. i was told that there are escapes with the proper vin number with that recall. they took my information and told me if i pay for it to be repaired and there is a recall at some point that i would be reimbursed. couldn't it be possible that the part was installed that's is faulty? i just wanted to vent and let your site known of this problem. thank you.

We noticed a rattling/banging noise coming from the right rear of vehicle, my wife rode in the rear seat and could feel the shock mount hitting against the back of the interior trim panel. looking into the wheel well, we could see where the wheel housing had completely rusted out, revealing the interior. the upper shock mount can be wiggled by hand. today 12/31/2014, i went to see my "friends" at our local ford dealership, the service writer said i was in "luck" as he remembered researching the same issue for another customer. he found a diagram with the replacement panel & wheel house, part# 7l82-7827886-a, with a list price of $150, then we went to talk to another "friend" in parts, he said that the price had recently increased and now listed at $700. they offered to have me talk to another "friend" in sales, but i informed them my wife refused to buy another ford, and if we were to buy a new vehicle it would be a toyota. with that said, my "friends" suggested to unload (trade) it at a toyota dealer. they also informed me our 2005 ford escape was "unsafe" to drive. i went to our local body shop to get his recommendation. he said, they had just done one, in 10/2014 for just under $900 and he got the part from my "friends" at the dealership for $120. in apparent disbelief he called our "friends" and they confirmed the price increase. we searched online and found many 7l82-7827886-a for $20-$180, after ordering from several different vendors, each vendor cancelled the orders for various reasons; unavailable, part number change and is more expensive, due to the size and fragile nature we are unable to ship, not available, etc. what is ford's objective with this price increase ? ? ? there was clearly a defect in manufacturing, craftsmanship, and/or materials, that created this severe defect in safety of the 2005 ford escape ! ! ! *js

Every morning for the past year the car alarm is triggered and goes off for approximately 2 mins or until i press the "alarm" button on my key fob. it happens routinely at approximately 9am-10:30am every morning. when researching online what the possible cause is, i saw that there are multiple owners of ford escapes from years 2005-2007 that are having the same issues. many people have stated that it is a faulty door sensor that is malfunctioning. some people reported spending upwards of $800 to get the problem diagnosed and then faulty sensors in various doors replaced. although this is not a life threatening "issue" it is highly inconvenient to myself, and the neighbors in my area where the vehicle is a constant source of annoyance. as there are so many people reporting this exact same issue, it is clearly a manufacturer defect.

The rear right upper shock mount felt off so there is no where we can put the shock. therefore, it has a big hole on the fender well that you can see the inside this is something that should not had happen plus on the left side you can see rust cracks in the fender well and continues to the upper shock mount. i think this is something that the company has to address and fixed it because it is a safety issue. *tr

Airbag light is yellow. was told my airbags will not inflate in a accident. the unit that controls the airbags also controls the locks on the doors. the doors no longer lock on take off. doesn't warn you that the front passenger isn't seat belted in. the unit is under the console and is hard to replace so i was told and would cost me over $500. which i can't afford. i feel it is a safety issue that should be covered by ford motor company. i was told not enough owners are having a problem with this therefore it isn't a recall issue.

The entire shock tower on the rear passenger side had rusted out. the shock has nothing to hold on to. i am told the vehicle is unsafe to drive. on line there are a number of complaints of the same problem with the 2005 ford escape. i think this widespread problem should be investigated immediately.

Driving under normal conditions, heard a loud banging sound.was getting worse and looked at rear passenger tire side. noticed the entire shock mount rusted and broken loose from undercarriage. very dangerous if traveling at higher speed. have owned over 20 cars and never had this happen. what is going on ford???? *tr
