On 4/15/02 after driving for approximately a 1/2 hour on a clear day at about 35-40 mph on slight downgrade without any indication car stalled. lost all power including the steering and brakes and almost wrapped myself around a tree. brought car to dealer and they replaced the pcm. two days later my fiance was doing 60 mph on li expressway when again without any indication the car stalled almost causing a major accident. called mcdaniel ford and was told to call aaa to have car towed to dealer but they said they could not provide a loner because it wasn't figured into the cost of the car and that they have never heard of any such problems with the escape. called aaa three times the first call at 2 pm on 04/18/02 and they could not get a tow until 04/19/02. contacted ford on 04/18/02 and representative said that there were no similiar complaints and no recalls but to contact the dealer.*ak

2nd failure occurred 4/16/2002, while driving engine quit, no warning steering became stiff, braking was difficult, both incidents occurred while i was going down a hill coming out of a curve. i was able to get the vehicle off the road both times with some dificulty. i will be taking the vehilce back to dealer 2nd time on 4/22/02, first time they upgraded the pcm, apparently this was not the problem, if it happens again, after 2nd time to service, i will pursue wv lemmon law. i have just made the first payment on the vehicle. the first occurance happend 4 days after purchase.*ak

I purchased a ford escape 2002 in april of last year from the able ford dealership in rockville centre. the processor (computer part of the engine) failed in march 2003 and was replaced it's now may 2003 i am still having issues with the processor. they took the car in on friday may 16, 2003 and put a hornest on the engine (processor) and gave me the car back that day. an hour after i got my car back from the able ford dealership service department in rockville center, ny the vehicle was having the same problem that was suppose to be corrected that day. they currently have my car in their possession now. this is the third time i'm bringing my vehicle to them for the same problem. they can't tell me why this vehicle is malfunctioning and i've called and made complaints to their customer service department several times without anyone contacting me or providing me with answers. i called the salesman mark demartini who sold me the car. he was also rude and told me to call laura the service department manger. i called laura and left her a message. she never called back. i have a brand new vehicle that spends more time at ford than with me driving it and i don't feel safe in my own vehicle. at any time because of this problem my car could shut down while driving. i am being given the run around and ford is not providing answers as to the malfunctioning of my new vehicle and i feel cheated and violated. they are currently telling me that they can not find anything wrong with my vehicle and their ny service representative james welch (201) 529-7267, told me basically this is all in my head and lied about facts on my work order sheets that i have copies of. he said i am trying to build a lemon law case against them and they are not going to help me do this. now with all of this said and he rudeness and dishonesty how am i to believe he even looked at my vehicle that has been there for five days. this is truly a safety hazard.

Pe 01 043/engine stalling:consumer states vehicle stalls intermittently while driving, vehicle has been to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. dealer updated computer software and there have been no failures since service, but difficult to know if fixed due to intermittent nature of problem. *tt

2002 escape stalled while coasting 35-40 mph down-hill. engine, battery and oil lights illuminated on dash. loss of power steering and breaks. vehicle started up immediately after placing in "park" position. dealership tested vehicle and found nothing out of the ordinary. vehicle was 3 days old, 164 miles on odometer. this vehicle is the replacement to 2001 escape that stalled 4 times while coasting. dealer replaced fuel pump, electronic engine control (eec) relay on separate occasions. vehicle still stalled. dealership very "pro-active" and willing to assist by offering rental car while testing both vehicles.

Not able to remove key from ignition when vehicle is turned off. *ak
