Driving at 35mph abs light came on then check brakes followed by brake regen disengaged. this created no stopping of vehicle and running through stop light. fortunately, there were no vehicles coming from other directions. still no brakes and appears to be a known issue by public and ford.

Regen brakes disabled malfunction, leads to loss of braking without warning. many many other escape hybrid owners have filed similar complaints . please do a google search to verify the extent of this problem. this needs to be investigated and addressed promptly before more people are hurt or killed.

Driving my car and the abs and brake warning light came on and brakes failed to work properly. paul miller ford of lexington ky.said i needed to replace ncu and master cylinder at a cost of $9000. there has been numerous complaints i've discovered after researching this problem. the car is still at the dealer so i don't have paper work yet.

As i was driving about 40 mph in my 2008 ford escape hybrid, the asb and brake warning light came on and brakes weren't functioning properly. i was able to carefully drive it home, 5 miles. after the car sat for a short time it was started and the warning lights were not on and it drove normally. i took it to ford garage where they said the hcu malfunction and it needed replaced. the hcu problem seems to be a common problem with hybrids and vary expensive to fix and dangerous if not fixed. it's been at the local ford garage for over 7 weeks and they can't bleed the brakes to finish the repair. also, when they told me they couldn't bleed the brakes, i need to replace the master cylinder. that did not fix the problem of bleeding the brakes. at least it's safe sitting at the ford garage and not being driven. ford should recall their hcus

112,000 miles while driving, vibration from right front of vehicle. able to stop. check engine and brake warning lights. regenerative brake disabled. vehicle to dealership with dtc - c1480. internal failure of the hydraulic control unit for the abs. cost of repair over $5000 for hybrid specific replacement part number 2c286. numerous reports of the part failing on internet and this site. with the price the hcu quoted to be $4700, i just the rest of the parts in this vehicle must be really inexpensive (cheap) given the original $28,000 price tag.

I had all the brakes stuck while driving. abs and brake warning lamp went off along with regen brakes disabled. mechanic`s diagnosis was abs pump and control module need to be replaced. cost about 4500$ total.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape hybrid. while driving 35 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. the brake and abs warning indicators illuminated. in addition, the check brake system and system regen brake disable warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was contacted, but the contact was unable to speak with a representative. the failure mileage was 211,000.

I just bought a used 2008 ford escape a couple weeks ago with 113,000 miles on it. a few days after i bought it i went to stop at a light from a speed of 50mph and the brake pedal went to the floor and i lost all brake power. i went onto the shoulder and almost into a ditch to prevent hitting the car in front of me. the dash read "check brake system" and "regen brakes disabled". the abs and brake lights are also illuminated. the vehicle cannot be driven and i am being told it is likely a failed hydraulic brake control unit which is a known problem and very expensive. how has ford not issued a recall for an extremely dangerous and known problem?

Abs light on - brakes work most of the time, but not reliable. regen light also on. the problem occurs intermittently, almost always shortly after starting the vehicle. on 2 occasions it occurred while driving on the interstate and forced the vehicle to slow to 20mph.

Check brakes light comes on when reaching 40 mph, and stays on. abs light comes on after that. ford dealer indicates entire front left axle shaft needs replacing due to broken tone rings. very expensive. other repair professionals suggest that tone rings can be replaced separately; much less expense. ford dealer won't do without entire axle being replaced. hundreds of complaints on internet. brake pedal pulsates and is difficult to apply brakes.

Vehicle was in motion on a city street when the brake light came on and display read "regen brakes disabled." the vehicle was no longer effectively braking and almost caused a collision.

The abs brakes have failed. the vehicle is no longer safe to drive. i took it to a ford dealer and was quoted over $5,000 to replace the hydraulic control unit. i have read many people have experienced the same problem. why has there been no recall on a vehicle with a problem as serious as this?

Brake failure. during normal driving i was coming to an intersection to stop. i applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor, brake effectiveness was almost non existent. the abs light and a message indicating 'regen system disabled' came on. ford has designed a braking system that can simply "disable" itself and leave a person without effective stopping power. i had to veer off the roadway to avoid hitting cars in front of me, resulting in minor damage to my front bumper and undercarriage. this should be a recall due to safety concerns.

While driving the abs and check brake lights came on and the brakes began to make noise when the brake pedal was pressed. the car still slowed and the vehicle was driven home. upon taking the vehicle to the dealer, the abs control assembly was found to be inoperable - this unit is both a hydraulic and electronic control unit on the escape hybrid. the regenerative braking system is controlled by the unit and it also failed. the fix was over $6000 from ford. this car had 221541 miles on it, so this in effect totaled the car, which was otherwise in decent shape and still ran very well. checking on the web - we were lucky as several other reports of this unit failing have been reported with much worse results to the owners while driving.

Abs & brake warning lights on; check brake system & regen brakes disabled message center. braking is harder, unassisted. no abs, tires can lock up on braking. ford dealer wants $4900 for the hcu part + labor. there have been several reports online of this issue; and that it can leave a vehicle with no brakes; a safety hazzard.

While driving under normal conditions, the check engine light illuminated yellow, the abs light illuminated, and the red brake light illuminated simultaneously. a message on the dash said "regen brakes disabled". the normal braking system failed to work. the manual (fail safe) braking system was inadequate to stop properly. i had to put the brake pedal to the floor as hard as possible and the car still did not brake properly. after much rolling, the car finally came to a stop, but hit a pole in the process causing a crack in the front bumper. due to the long stopping process, the pole was unavoidable. it was the pole, the ditch, or another car, so i had to choose to bump into the pole for the least amount of damage and to be sure not to hurt anyone else. traumatic experience for me and my young grandchildren!

The vehicle's hydraulic control unit has failed. as a result the vehicle is unsafe to drive because the abs does not function. the cost to replace this part is around $6000, which is more than the value of the car. i opened a complaint with ford motor company but they say that there is nothing that they can do.

Abs light / brake light goes off and on with a message check brake system - regen brakes disabled - replaced broken tone ring, new brakes and rotors and the light continues to stay on - several complaints on this unsafe issue with the 08 hybrid - ford needs to recall this vehicle before someone is in a serious accident

While driving the car i started seeing abs lights pop up on the dash and immediately lost all power of the braking system. i had to slam so hard on the pedal for it to barely come to a stop almost hitting the car in front of me in a shopping center. after taking it to a mechanic i was told the abs control module is bad. after some research, i see that this is a common problem in this generation ford escape hybrids and many other people have had close calls with some getting into accidents due to the faulty abs issue.

Regen brakes diabled notification comes on. after which, the braking seems inconsistent. this is a concern as the braking system is a safety issue.

I was in a busy shopping plaza and came up to a 4 way stop. when i pressed the brakes, the car didn't stop! a message reading "regen brakes disabled" came up on the screen, followed by "check brake system". both the abs and brake warning lights came on on the dash. i tried turning the vehicle off and then on again as sometimes when it has an electrical hiccup that will resolve the issue. the same message reappeared and i drove straight to a local garage. they were unable to definitively determine the issue and referred me to the ford dealership. a few days later, ford advised me that it was a failure of the hydraulic control unit which will need to be replaced. this is definitely a safety issue. all of the pieces within the brake system are in tact, everything that can be inspected during routine tune ups looks fine, but suddenly when you are driving the brain of the car can't remember how to make it stop.

While driving, or sometimes while parked in the driveway, the warning light comes on, the message reads "brake regen fail". the brakes get mushy and become manual brakes. the mechanic said i need a hydraulic abs brake system overhaul. this seems to happen more often when it is very hot outside. when it first happened, i could "fix" it by turning the car off, engaging the parking brake, and then restarting. now, when it is hot, the car is not drivable. this has happened probably two dozen times since july.

Breaks periodically just won't work...go out...there are multiple complaints about this listed on the internet. its says you can replace a 4000 part...however the car really isn't worth that much. now it will say regen breaks disabled

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape hybrid. while driving 35 mph, "the check brake system" and "regen brake disable" indicators illuminated. a dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 139,000. *tt

A.b.s. hcu. part # 8m6z2c286a this repair according to the dealer cost is $5835.56 their are many other complaints. this is a major safety problem !

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape hybrid. while the contact's girlfriend was driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to engage as the brake and abs warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle stopped only after the brake pedal was pumped multiple times. the vehicle was taken to grieco ford (1651 new state hwy, raynham, ma 02767, 1- 888-680-8818) where it was diagnosed that the abs pump was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 111,449.

Abs lights came on went and got it checked and its the break system. i was told by the dealership that it was going to be over $5,000 and that even if they fixed it i dont get a warranty for the fixed system and that it could reoccur. this is an issue with this car a lot. can we please get this issue checked into. $5,000 is a lot of money to fix a car and it not be 100 percent fixed

My car's abs and brake lights have come with messages reading "check brake system" and "regen brake disabled." at times the brakes will appeear to fail and i have to slam them very hard to stop.

Brake light with abs light come on the dash and loose the brake and vehicle becomes too dangerous to drive .

Complete brake failure while traveling at 50+ mph on an populated road. had to stop using emergency brake and driving on the divider. brake loss was due to a failed master brake cylinder and hydolic control unit. similar if not identical to technical service bulletin, tsb 05-8-5 (august 5, 2005) (nhtsa id #10017553)

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape hybrid. while driving various speeds, the brakes failed to engage and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. in order to stop the vehicle, the contact had to downshift the transmission and apply the parking brake. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and then drove home. the contact stated that the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to doan ford, inc. (located at 66870 belmont morristown rd, belmont, oh 43718, (740) 782-1965) where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

Vehicle lost all brakes was told it is a issue with a valve in the hybrid brake system which cost over 5 grand to fix through ford.

Brake failure abs module

-vehicle abs (anti-lock brake system) light came on and dash said 'check brake system' and 'regen brakes disabled'. thank goodness i was parked when the issue occurred and when i tried to drive away, i was able to test the braking ability and quickly turn

My ford escape hybrid 2008 brakes failed on may 14, 2018 nearly causing a head-on collision. the pedal went completely to the floor after my abs light & parking brake lights were illuminated on the dash, it also displayed "check brake system" as well as "regen brakes disengaged". i purchased the vehicle in november of 2017 from a used car dealer. it was immediately brought to them where they attempted to scan for any codes but instructed me to take to ford where it could be properly scanned. i had an appointment on 5/17 for the abs codes to be scanned where they found two codes: left front brake pressure & a faulty hydraulic control unit. they stated that this part has been failing among the hybrid vehicles and ford has issued a 'special service message' regarding these parts as it is nearly $6,000 to replace with no guarantee of it working. the fact that ford has not issued a recall for this dangerous faulty part with evidence all across the internet and various other sources i have researched. i have made my state's attorney general (ct),the ford motor company, local news stations, bbb all aware of the issue in hopes that something will change ford motor companies mind in avoiding any other near accidents or even deaths to occur. please contact me if any other materials are needed. i will pursue all appropriate avenues until ford initiates a recall. thank you very much. *tt *tr

While driving, the brake light and the abs light came on along with two messages "regen brakes disabled" and "check brake system". car brakes very hesitantly which i consider to be extremly dangerous. took it to local ford dealer. he read codes 1478, 1480 and u2023. quoted me that i need the abs module replaced at usd 5,537.00 plus tax. this is above the kbb value of the car. investigating on the net there is easily hundreds of the samecomplaint of people loosing their car as it is beyond economical repair. on top, i think i only got lucky that the failure did not happen while driving and needing brakes in an emergency situation. please look into this safety issue. thanks.

I recently purchased a used 2008 ford escape hybrid with 112k miles from a large dealership. the vehicle had an inspection done at the dealership and one done by an independent mechanic. no codes or signs of brake failure were apparent. within the first week, with less than 25 additional miles on the vehicle, while driving on a city street in normal conditions, the 'braking system failure' light came on and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. the "regenerative braking system failure" light came on, the abs brake light came on. fortunately there was no serious accident and no collisions, we were able to slowly get the car to our home. the next day the brakes then functioned properly and no light was being displayed. i called the dealership regarding paperwork and informed the salesman of the situation and told him if it happened again i would take it in and have it checked. well ' it happened again on april 26th, while driving down a city street. this time we were barely able to come to a stop before running through a stop sign. no accidents occurred. i brought it into an independent mechanic and they diagnosed it as a full hydraulic brake system failure (the hydraulic control unit) ' for an estimated repair cost of $5800.00. it is obviously a serious safety issue if the brakes randomly stop working. i guess it will take a loss of life and lawsuit before the nhtsa will do something. by the nhtsa's own words : a recall is issued when a manufacturer or nhtsa determines that a vehicle, equipment, car seat, or tire creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards. most decisions to conduct a recall and remedy a safety defect are made voluntarily by manufacturers prior to any involvement by nhtsa.". legally, what is happening with this vehicle meets your own statement.

Vehicle abs reg/brake warning light came on with 100,000 miles on it. vehicle's brakes were working on a limited basis, unsafe to drive. the vehicle's braking ability was eratic and did not stop at multiple intersections. the part that failed according to codes was a hydraulic brake control unit that cost about $5000 if using a new oem part. had car repaired at dealership using a part with all matching numbers that was rebuilt, but the dealership would not warranty the repair. proceeded anyway, brakes functioned properly for about one week. this issue has returned and the codes indicate it needs a new hcu, again. the car failed to stop at a red light but avoided an accident. the car can not be driven at this time. research shows this is a common failure of this make and model.

Abs light goes on, brake regen goes on causing the vehicle not to stop. severe safety issue which there is no know recall by ford for. $5000 dollar fix to replace the hcu. went to stop at a red light and almost caused an accident. *tr

Takata recall my brake light is on

Brake system failure. abs and red brake lights came on while driving and almost caused a serious accident. an inexperienced driver would've crashed.

It's say regan brakes disabled system and now my brakes is burning before i pulled off the light came on. *tt *tr

Regenerative hybrid brakes disabled.. vehicle brakes in "failsafe" mode, which requires you to slam the brakes all the way to the floor just to slow down. ran through three red lights unwillingly. the ford escape hybrid has many reported issues with the abs and regenerative system failing (a quoted $5000 fix). these vehicles are so rare, and probably every single one of them are no longer driven and instead on the forums with a laundry list of complaints around this issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape hybrid. the contact stated that the abs indicator illuminated and there was a loss of braking power. the vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or a dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

The regen breaks disabled light is always on. the breaks do not work properly, if at all. numerous times i have been unable to stop almost causing an accident. the breaks sometimes lock on and the vehicle won't move at all. unable to go more than 40 mph. if you attempt, the vehicle shakes and the breaks smoke. i took it to ford for diagnostic and they informed me it is a common problem due to the the beak system and the hybrid system being integrated. the part by itself is $4200 and the vehicle blue books for about $3000 at the most. the vehicle won't start or even turn over. the battery is good.
