We have classified the 3 complaints from 2013 Ford Edge about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
When my driver's side door is closed, the door open sensor chimes & the door open indicator is lit up on the dashboard. if i silence it, the light remains on and anytime i come to a stop and my foot is removed from the brake, the alarms start chiming again. i took it to the dealership on 10/3/14 for this issue as well as two other issue, one of which is part of the door panel popping apart. when i got the car back, the problem no longer existed. fast forward to this last month. the door was again becoming an issue. meaning, the problem existed every time i closed my door but if i kept closing and opening the door, eventually after 5-6 times, the car would register the door as closed. i made an apt telling the service guy that i was having the problem again and we made an apt. i dropped off my car yesterday at 3:30. we got a call at 4 pm stating our car is no longer under warranty as we are over our 36,000 mileage limit (we are at 39,000). i reminded him it was covered because the issue was reported last year when they fixed it. he (sam) told me that he had gone through my invoices and there is no record of this work being done. i then said maybe they fixed it and forgot to write it down. i was told no that could not happen. i said they had to take the door panel off for the other issue and i was told that was nowhere near the sensor. i went to the parts counter and was told that indeed, the sensor is on the edge of the door and you would need to remove the panel to get to it. they told me that they would not cover it. i then informed them of how many other people are having the same issue so it is obviously not a wear and tear or personal mistreatment issue and that ford should not be shirking their responsibility and i was told my car was being brought around. ugh. so it is still not fixed and i am expected to come out of pocket to fix it. i can tell you this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford edge. the contact started the vehicle and the warning indicator displayed that the front driver side door was ajar even though all four doors were closed securely. the four doors failed to lock when the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired. the contact was uncertain of the specific part that was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The door ajar warning light continued to stay on even after closing the driver side door. we "googled" the situation and found out that many owners of ford edge vehicles have reported this problem. we took it to a dealership to get repaired. we did have an extended warranty, but ended up paying $150 diagnostic fee. the total cost was $459.00 (extended warranty paid). after reading the blogs about this repair, we would like to see this be a recall for the vehicle. *tr
When the driver's door is closed the display panel shows the driver's side door is open. *tr
My door ajar light continues to come on. i shut the door multiple times and sometimes it turns off and some times it doesn't. i think the lock or latch on the door is faulty. *tr
Door ajar sensor indicates door is ajar when it clearly is not. this makes locking the doors impossible and causes the interior dome lights to illuminate. car is less than 2 years old. apparently, this is a problem with the switch assembly across numerous ford vehicles. *js
I have been having issues with the driver's "door ajar" being on constantly. the door is clearly shut; however, there is a constant beeping warning that the door is open. due to this warning, the car will not allow for the doors to be locked when the car is in motion. this is a major concern having two young children. in addition to the safety issue mentioned above, the dome light is now delayed from turning off upon exiting the vehicle. took this into the dealership and they wanted $500 to fix. this past weekend, i am now receiving a warning that my liftgate is open as well. i had no success after attempting to close the liftgate multiple times. this lock mechanism seems to have a clear issue which ford is hesitant to address. i really hope they get this fixed asap or i will not be purchasing ford products again. *js
After closing the door then starting the vehicle the "door ajar" will not go off which notifies the driver to put the vehicle in park. i think this is a safety issue as the vehicle may not protect the driver and passengers in the event an accident occurs. i also noticed that when turning the vehicle off to get gas or etcetera, it keeps notifying you to put the vehicle in park. i think this is directly related to the door latch being faulty. ford wants $400 to repair this item which i think is a safety issue and should be recalled as many edge owners are experiencing the same faults. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated the driver's side door warning light illuminated although the door was not open. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.
Drivers door latch faulty. causes "door ajar" and "shift to park" warning lights even though door completely shut. ignoring the warning light is dangerous. under warranty ford's procedure is still to only clean the contacts and not replace the unit. this fault occurred again after they cleaned. *tr
The driver's door sensors intermittently have a "door ajar" warning, though each door is completely shut. the sensor is inside the latch, and has a very high failure rate, based on cursory internet research. the warning can occur while driving,and/or applying brakes. it alerts the driver to put the car in park. the doors will not lock (while driving) when the "door ajar" sensor light it on. this is a safety issue. *tr
The driver side door lock, specifically the door ajar sensor, started malfunctioning after approximately one year of ownership. this causes a safety concern because as long as the door ajar error appears on the message window, the computer will not allow any of the doors to lock. i am concerned that the occupant(s) could be ejected from the vehicle in the event of a crash or a rollover. additionally, the dealer wants between $300 and $500 to replace the faulty part (cost $90) due to having to dismantle the door to access the part. i have researched this on the internet and found there are do it yourselfers repairing or disabling the sensor, which could create other dangers if the door is not properly reconstructed. further internet research revealed this problem has been occurring since about 1996 and it is a known problem across several models and platforms (cars, trucks and suv's). the other minor annoyance is that the interior lights do not go off as long as the sensor is activated, causing battery drain and security issues.
The driver side door becomes ajar and you have to open and shut the door numerous times to have the alert go away. the dome lights stay on and at night this is a hazard. also, every time you start to accelerate the car beeps and tells you to put the car in park, which is a huge distraction. *tr
Door ajar warning light will not go off when door is closed and the doors will not lock.
While driving, at various speeds, the drivers side door warning comes up on the dash and a bell will ring saying that the door is ajar. sometimes it says to put car in park. i open and close the door and it fixes the problem temporarily, only to happen again. happening more and more frequently. *js
My vehicle is a 2014 ford edge with less 40,000 miles. the door ajar sensor is malfunctioning thus preventing the door to lock while vehicle is in motion and the interior dome light stays on while driving. my child has opened the door on many occasions while vehicle was in motion and almost fell out. ford is aware of this issue and there many online forums with customers having the same issue dating back to 2010. and instead of doing recall ford has issued a tsb. *tr
Bought my car in february of 2014. (we were the 2nd owners. not sure if previous owners experienced trouble before they traded the car in.) almost immediately we started having issues with "door ajar" lights staying on which caused the interior lights to stay on while driving down the road. it also doesn't allow the doors to lock themselves automatically when driving. we had sensors replaced by ford on both front doors after a lot of back and forth with them last year. now we are having trouble with a sensor on one of the back doors that's causing all the same problems as last time only this time we are also having trouble with interior lights coming on and going off on their own while the car is sitting parked. nobody likes a dead battery. this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. right now this is a warranty issue for me but will eventually cost around $500 a pop to fix and more importantly it poses a safety issue for the children riding in my car if their door doesn't latch properly & i don't know it because i assume it's just the sensor acting up again. please help get this sensor recalled. ford has no intention of doing it. *tr
Door ajar warning system fails repeatedly causing auto door locks to unlock all doors repeatedly - this is apparently a problem with ford edge since 2006 or before - door locking system failure represents a real consumer hazard. *tr
The driver door almost always reports that it is ajar despite the fact that it is closed. it will occasionally stop reporting the problem if i repeatedly open and close the door. this prevents the doors from locking while the vehicle is in motion and causes the interior lights to remain on in the vehicle when parked for about 10 minutes. the alert will also chime every time i start from a complete stop which is very distracting. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that after closing the driver side door, the door ajar warning light illuminated indicating that the door was still open causing the dome light to remain on. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the door lock sensor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 40,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while operating the vehicle, the door ajar warning message for the front and rear driver side doors would display although the doors were completely secured. the contact also indicated that after turning the vehicle off and closing the doors, the battery would become drained due to the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions and the door switches were cleaned and/or replaced but the failure would recurred approximately 10,000 miles later. in addition the contact indicated that due to the failure the doors were unable to be locked while operating the vehicle and the interior lights would remain on. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.
The driver's door and right rear door sensors intermittently have a "door ajar" warning, though each door is completely shut. the sensor is inside the latch, and has a very high failure rate, based on cursory internet research. the warning can occur while driving, it alerts the driver to put the car in park. ford categorizes the door ajar warning under 'safety' in its extended warranty plans, so i would conclude that not knowing whether the door is actually ajar or not is, in fact, a safety issue. *tr
The driver door ajar sensor is always on even when i close the door. the drive door ajar sensor never goes off. it causes the lights to come on while i am driving, it will not let me lock the doors while i am inside the car as well as the lights stay on for over 5 minutes when i try to lock the car after i get out. this is draining my battery. *tr
Door ajar light goes on. have taken the car in several times for the same thing still not fixed. this weekend soon after i bought the car i do not remember the date they will have it at the mechanic i'm sure or somewhere in my file folders
The system is showing a "door ajar" alarm, drivers front door. initially i thought it was just because i did not close the door enough so i just opened it, and pulled a little harder and the alarm went away. i drove the car for a few days and one morning when it was frosty i closed the door and the "door ajar" alarm posted again. i opened the door and closed it several times and the alarm went away. from this i thought the striker needed to be adjusted, i thought, "how is it possible that the door switch could have failed on a vehicle that is only 1.5 years old?". i drove the car for a few more days and at this point the alarm was posting about 50% of the time. around the beginning of december the alarm began posting all the time. now, it posts nearly 95% of the time with only a few times where it does not. the issue with this alarm is twofold: 1) it keeps the dome lights on because the system does not see that the door is closed when you get out of the car and lock it, thus the timer must time out (around 20 minutes) and the lights turn off. 2) this prevents the doors from being locked while driving. the last one is the one that i have a problem with because this, to me, is a safety concern. *tr
Our ford edge keeps thinking the drivers door is open!!! its not a secure feeling when you are driving or standing and all of a sudden the lights go on and the panel is saying your doors is open. *tr
The car surged forward after the break pedal was depressed which resulted in a crash into a tree. damage to the front end. the car was drivable to the repair shop. at least three other incidents where the car surged forward but did not result in a crash. took the car to future ford and they could not duplicate the problem so nothing was done. latest event on 5/22/2015 where the car surged forward and crashed into a building. in both incidents, we were lucky in that nobody was injured. the surges last about 4 to 5 seconds.the air bags did not deploy. nothing is done to stop the surge except push harder on the break pedal. future ford service manager stated nothing can be done without positive proof in the error codes.
The driver side door becomes ajar even when shut and you have to open and shut the door numerous times to have the alert go away. the dome lights stay on and at night this not safe. also, every time you start to accelerate the car beeps and tells you to put the car in park, which is a distraction. also this prevents the doors from locking while the vehicle is in motion and causes the interior lights to remain on in the vehicle when parked. if continue to drive while door ajar lamp is illuminated the alert will also chime every time i start from a complete stop which very distracting. *js
On 10/21/13 at 6:30 am i was driving on my daily route to work along interstate route 95-south. as i was driving over the high level bridge in portsmouth, nh, i heard a very loud bang. the vehicle had not struck any object, nor had any object struck the vehicle. i looked up and saw that the entire moonroof had completely shattered in place. i immediately pulled off the next exit. when i exited the vehicle and inspected its exterior, i confirmed that there was no indication that anything had hit my car. there was no sign of any object having struck the moon roof. there were no localized impact cracks or puncture holes anywhere, yet, a strip along all four edges of the moon roof had separated, while the center area stayed intact, but was completely shattered. i brought my car to the portsmouth, nh ford dealership and the service manager looked at my vehicle's moon roof and agreed that the damage did not appear to be caused by something hitting my car. fmc has documentation of his statement. sm took pictures of the moon roof and submitted a to fmc. fmc immediately denied the request for replacement. in the meantime, the service manager escalated the request because he felt very strongly that this was not a result of something hitting my moon roof. the request was once again denied. mr.xxx has continued to make calls on my behalf this week to fmc, asking how anyone can make a determination without sending someone to inspect the moon roof firsthand. he was repeatedly told for three days that ford was working on coming up with a resolution. on 10/23/13 ford called and offered to pay for half the replacement cost of the moon roof. due to the lack of service from ford motor company, i had to submit a claim through my personal car insurance.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the door ajar indicator illuminated when the door was closed and the interior lighting randomly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's door sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was not available.
1.driver's door arm rest and center arm rest do not align up, when both arms are on the arm rests. 2.drive control know is in the way and makes it hard to use center lower electric console. 3.turn signal stays on when you use it to change lanes, have to reset it. 4.both front doors ,lower storage area, is too long, as things tend to get stuck in the back of the storage area. 5.center storage area is hard to get to, and also things get behind the console and you cannot get to them. 6.no trunk cover, hook ups. 7.back seat did not go all the way down. *tr
Door ajar light won't go out.
Driver's door ajar switch malfunctioned and the vehicle would indicate the door was open at various random times, even when it was closed. took car to dealer 3/2013 where they serviced the latch and the issue resolved for about a year. took car back to dealer and they wouldn't repair it unless i paid for a new latch. cleaning and lubricating the latch sometimes helped for a few hours or days but the problem always returned. the problem occurred with the vehicle running or not, and both stationary and moving. replaced the driver door latch assembly 8/2016 (which contains the door switch) and the problem was resolved. the replacement latch assembly part no. 8t4z-7821813-b has been updated twice per ford parts.
The automatic trunk has no sensor for items or people in the way. when you hit the close button, it continues to close despite someone or something in its path. it has no sensor to retract or stop closing. it is extremely dangerous considering the speed and weight of the door. i worry that my child will get caught in the door as my spouse and i have been hit by the door on multiple occasions. *tr
Internal electrical failure in the left front door latch with integral switch that sends a false door ajar signal to the dashboard instruments and audible alarm system. begins as an intermittent issue then in a few days becomes constant. annoying at the least. distracting at the worst, especially for less experienced drivers. my repair was out of any warranty due to mileage. *tr
