We have classified the 3 complaints from 2013 Ford Edge about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the doors were unable to be locked. the dealer diagnosed that the door locks and sensors failed. the door sensors and locks needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
There is water leaking into my ford edge leaving a puddle on my drivers side floor, completely saturating the carpet. the water is literally pooling on the floor under my feet. this happens when the car sits idle, undriven, when there is rain. it has nothing to do with an a/c leakage, condensation, etc. there is water leaking from the outside into my vehicle and has now resulted in rusting of my floorboard and molding to my carpet. there is a strong mold odor and is intoloerable unless the windows are open while driving. i have a child with allergies and he can not be exposed to this. this has happened numerous times after rain . i have vacuumed up the water, dried the carpeting but it reoccurres over and over. my first incident was just a month or so after i purchased the vehicle used. i will get into my vehicle in the morning and you can visually see a puddle on my drivers side floor, sometimes even submersing my floor mat, when there was rain during the night and the floor was dry when i parked it the night before.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the door ajar indicator was constantly displayed. the contact stated that the failure affected the door on the driver's side. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 35,760.
My driver side door ajar alarm is constantly activated, even when the door is shut tightly. because the door ajar is always activated my car alarm has started going off randomly, so now i can no longer lock my car without fear that the alarm will be set off while i'm away from the vehicle. while driving the sensor for the door ajar keeps dinging, which is very distracting and causes confusion. it also refuses to go off no matter how many times i try closing the door, so there is no way so stop the dinging or alarms while the vehicle is in operation.
The drivers door is showing open on the instrument panel even when closed. there is also and audible alarm warning that the door is not closed. the door lock feature will not engage when the vehicle is in motion. i am unsure if the door is safely latched at all
The door open sensor comes on when i am driving when the door is actually closed and then the interior light comes on, it will also come on when i am parked when it is closed. i had it replaced within the last year and it is doing exactly the same thing again. also when my edge is parked in the garage overnight it will smell like fuel in the mornings. it smells like there is a leak.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while parked, the front passenger side door sensor light illuminated and chimed in the vehicle. the failure prevented the doors from locking manually and electronically. the failure previously occurred on the front driver side door too. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,000. updated 05/10/16*lj *tr
My ford edge 2013 is not turning off the overhead lights when i close the driver side door and when driving i get a warning stating that the door is ajar.sometimes after slamming the driver door two to three times it goes away.it has become quiet annoying and dangerous when i drive since it becomes a constant distraction.i have gone to the dealer and they state that either the sensor or the latch have become faulty..really?...i think its about time for ford to do a recall and correct this issue since i have talked to other ford owners with the same exact issue in there offices.
The driver side door constantly displays the door ajar warning light. this prevents the doors from locking while driving and keeps the lights on within the vehicle when shut off. i was told by dealer it is a known problem with the edge and is expensive fix. *tr
My driver door ajar light stays on and will not lock the doors even though it is clearly shut completely. this allows the dome light to remain on also. after several times of opening and shutting it finally registers that it is closed. had my mechanic look at it he cleaned it and lubed it which cleared it for a day but is doing it again. looks like it needs a whole new door latch. i have found many complaints about this same issue but no recall from ford. this has been happening for approx. 1 month but has gotten progressively worse.
The door ajar sensor on the driver side door stopped working (making the car think the door was open when it was in fact closed). this prevents the car from locking while driving (a safety issue) and also causes the dome lights to remain on while driving (a further safety issue). it also causes the driver display to beep and make distracting popup menus while driving, which can distract the driver. i previously have taken the car in for this issue, but it has re-occurred on the same door. then i googled it and have found that this is a very common issue with lots of ford door sensors dating back several years.
Driver door ajar light stays on even when door is closed. this prevents the interior light from going off. this is a safety concern while driving at night due to it causing visibility issues to have the light on. it also prevents the doors from automatically locking while driving which is a big safety concern. anyone could open my car doors while stopped at a signal light or parked in parking lot. if you try to manually lock the door it will automatically unlock again. ford needs to recall this part immediately. this issue is affecting many ford owners with various models spanning 2007-2014 and it happens after the warranty expires. my problem started at 39,0000 miles and the warrant expired at 36,000 miles.
Door latch incorrectly reports that the door is open when it is not. this turns the interior lights on and drains the battery, also will not let you turn on the alarm. also makes you pull over to shut the door. had it in for service twice and they fixed it, at lease for a little while, than it came back. happens all the time, but not everytime.
Door ajar light often stays on or suddenly comes on with the door closed. when it happens, the doors will not lock (or will unlock) and the interior light comes on. this makes it very difficult to see when it happens at night and nearly impossible to back up at night. it will sometime happen when the car is just sitting in the garage without the engine running and no passengers in it. i believe this is dangerous for many reasons. again, it has happened sitting, when first started and when i am driving down the road. i will put in a date below but it has happened on multiple occasions.
Driver door ajar warning sign and the door would not lock whether stationary or in motion. it poses a safety hazard as it prevents you from locking the doors while driving the vehicle. i had the same problem last year and i had it fixed at a local ford service center but the door latch sensor is malfunctioning again. there should be a recall for this part malfunction as it presents a safety hazard.
I have had an issue with driver side door latch twice. taken to dealership for repair. june 2015 and february 2016
Takata recall: driver side door sensor indicator stays on which causes the interior light to stay on. at night it's very difficult to see will backing up this is very unsafe and has cause me to back into trash can. i'm very fortunate it wasn't a person or vehicle. my doors will not lock this can be very dangerous due to the fact i transport down some high crime areas. also my gas cap seal doesn't seal properly when i get gas my car is hard to start.
With all doors closed securely, the door ajar warning sounds. it seems to be only the drivers door at this time. when the door ajar warning is active, the dome lights stay on, the doors will not lock, and there is a persistent chime that sounds. this happens when in park, in drive, and while travelling down the road. car has been to dealer for this, once during warranty, and recently while out of warranty. dealer wants $433.14 to repair, even though this is a known issue.
Vehicle does not lock correctly. this occurs daily at random places while parked. lights stay on draining the battery. alarm goes off randomly at day or night waking me and neighbors almost every night. it is 4 am alarm went off and i just spent 30min trying to fix the door because lights are still on.
Door ajar notification stays on when door is closed, drivers door. interior lights stay on making the vehicle unsafe to operate at night.
Car displays a warning light indicating that the driver's door is not properly closed. ford dealer cleaned and adjusted door latch but the problem has reoccurred.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the door ajar warning indicator for the front driver's side door illuminated and a chime sounded even though all the doors were closed. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was unavailable.
We recently heard that the edge was being investigated because of problems with the door latch. we want to report that we have had that problem. we bought a 2013 edge in dec 2015. during the first week we started getting the warning message that the driver's door was open when it was actually not. it did not happen every time we drove the car, but when it did happen, the message kept repeating & there was no way to stop it. on july 26, 2016, we took it to the dealer & found out the problem was the door latch. it cost $486.57 for replacement (see invoice). when i heard about the investigation, i talked to the manager at the dealership & he said that it was 'possible' that we would be reimbursed by ford if a recall were issued. another ford worker in the service department said he does not think there will be a recall because there have not been that many incidents. an ongoing investigation indicates that there must have been plenty of incidents. if this is a design flaw, ford should be held responsible. we are living on social security and $486.57 is a substantial part of our income. we should not have to pay for ford's mistake. we urge you to issue a recall so that we can attempt to obtain reimbursement. *tr
Drivers side door ajar warning indicator will not shut off. the interior dome light stays on until approx moving 5mph. a few times the light came back on when stopped at a red light or stop sign. the doors will not stay locked, as the system thinks the door is open. after stopping and exiting the vehicle, you are unable to lock the door using the key less entry keypad. the only way to lock the doors is to use the key fob. this was an intermittent problem, now the warning light stays on all the time.
On or about december 2015, the drivers' side door will be firmly closed and the 'door ajar' alarm will continually sound when the vehicle is started. the door ajar alarm will repeatedly sound despite repeated opening and closing of the door. the interior lights will not turn off until the vehicle is in motion for about 100 feet, the door locks will not function (stay unlocked), and the door ajar alarm will continually sound when the vehicle comes to a complete stop or slows down to less than 5 miles per hour. this happens approximately 9 times out of 10 that the vehicle is turned on and driven. this occurs when in motion, stationary, on our driveway, on the city streets or other roadways, etc.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while operating the vehicle, the door ajar sensor would erroneously activate. the failure indicated that the front passenger side door was unsecured. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the door sensor was faulty. the front passagener sensor was replaced, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000.
The drivers door gives error upon closing indicating the door is ajar. after closing door many times the message is still there. when the door is ajar the door locks will not function meaning you are vulnerable to a car jacking because your doors won't lock. when you get out the car the same issue but the interior lights will stay on until the failsafe times them out for emergency shutoff but, the doors are still unlocked. this problem seems to become worst in the winter time. i do not experience this problem during the warm summer months.
Both the driver and driver side passenger door latches and sensor failed. the sensor believes that the doors are ajar when in fact they are not. because of this failure the interior lights stay on while driving until you reach a certain speed. this is especially dangerous at night because it is hard to see out. the interior lights also stay on for a very long time after you turn the vehicle off. if you take this in to be fixed it costs at least $345.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the gear shifter stick was placed in the drive position and an unknown beeping sound was heard. the contact stated that the doors unlocked independently and a message on the instrument panel instructed the contact to park the vehicle immediately. the door ajar warning light for the driver side illuminated. in addition, the dome lights illuminated independently and could not be switched off. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door ajar switch in the door handle failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,000.
Drivers side door ajar indicator continuously going off when door is shut. continues to stay on after several attempts to shut door to make alarm go off. makes it a driving distraction.. has been an ongoing issue and we just took it to the dealership to have repaired. our extended warranty will not cover the problem and the dealership wanted over $500 to repair. we cannot afford the repair right now so we have to deal with it until we can. again, a major driving distraction
Door ajar switch keeps malfunctioning. door will be completely closed and warning light comes on saying driver's door is still open. interior lights stay on and warning light comes on to tell you to put the transmission in park. found many people on the internet with same problem. ford charging $300.00 to $500.00 to replace switch. we have taking it to ford and they said it just needed adjustment. switch is now malfunctioning again after less than a year being fixed.
Once again the door ajar light comes on even when the car is parked, and all doors/hatch are properly closed. i have to slam the driver's door very hard multiple times before it will go off and allow the vehicle to be locked, and the alarm to be set!!! my car has less than 40,000 miles on it. the frustrating thing is i reported this to the dealer in june and they claim there was no problem. well, they were wrong, very wrong!
The driver door ajar light comes on and stays on. this causes the interior lights to stay on and the battery to drain. also the doors will not lock/stay locked. this happens when initially starting the vehicle and has happened while driving. i believe the cause of the problem to be either in the sensor or the door latch itself. at first it seemed to happen at random, but now seems to be occurring more often. this has been occurring for a few weeks. will be taking it to be repaired in a few days
When i close my drivers side door and start my 2013 ford edge, it thinks my door is ajar. this is a latch problem and the vehicle does not recognize that the door is closed. as a result, the doors will not lock. i have seen many complaints of this problem on the web. i am hoping that the nhtsa will force ford to recall these vehicles and fix the problem
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. after closing the driver side door, the door ajar warning light illuminated, which indicated that the door was still open. the failure caused the interior dome light to remain illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 42,690.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle door ajar alarm functioned independently and remained illuminated. as a result, the interior lighting remained illuminated and the vehicle door did not lock. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was approximately 22,400.
The door latch is defective. it reads that the door is ajar when it is really closed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the driver side door ajar light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, which located a failure at the driver side door sensor. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 44,000.
The vehicle does not sense the drivers side front door is fully closed. this results in the doors not locking when the vehicle is parked or in motion. it also causes the interior lights to stay on for a long time. i think that both of these issues are a safety hazard.
Door adjar warning keeps coming on even after door is shut hard. been told it's a faulty door latch assembly by dealer. vehicle does this when stationary.
Driver door shows ajar even when closed. have to close multiple times to get the switch to recognize it is closed.
Driver door ajar alarm. door is closed but switch is not made up. this prevents the doors from being locked from inside the vehicle. if the lock switch is actuated, 2 seconds later it unlocks all doors. this could be hazardous with small children in the vehicle or when driving in a bad neighborhood. ford has known about this problem for years but refuses to recall because it is not deemed a safety issue by them.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. after shutting the vehicle's door, the door ajar warning light illuminated continuously. the contact opened the door and shut it, but the warning light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the cause of the failure was undetermined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 52,000. the vin was not provided.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. after the vehicle was refueled, the contact discovered that fuel was leaking without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel filler pipe needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, when the vehicle was shut off, the instrument panel remained illuminated and caused the battery to become inoperable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions where it was diagnosed that the door ajar switch needed to be cleaned and replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact also mentioned that the heating system failed to operate without warning. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the heating system needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 29,338.
Door ajar sensor in driver door remains in "ajar" status even when door is closed. this causes an unsafe driving condition with the following: 1. continuous alert 2. dome light remains lit, causing vision issue while night driving 3. doors will not lock the last one is the most concerning as it could create a situation where a door may accidentally be opened during vehicle operation. also could create issues in higher crime areas at stoplights (someone could access the car due to not being locked) this site requires me to list a date when this happened, and i have entered the first day i remember it, but it is an ongoing issue.
The door ajar light is always on. it keeps me from locking the doors while inside. i have already had the issue fixed while it was under warranty for the driver door but the same issue is happening again with the rear drivers side door. this issue is present at all times.
Left rear door ajar warning message stays on, even when the door is closed. the interior/dome lights stay on while driving, even at night time, so it is hard to see to drive. the dome lights stay on as even after the car is parked and turned off. the doors do not lock while we are inside our vehicle. this is a huge safety issue for myself, and my growing family. for one, not being able to lock the doors to keep ourselves protected and safe inside our vehicle has me very concerned. this vehicle is suppose to be our family car that i feel safe and secure in with my spouse and children. also, driving at night while the dome lights continue to stay on prevents me from seeing everything properly at night. i seriously fear for the safety of my family while driving this vehicle this way. this is our family car that needs this door latched replaced due to a faulty latch. please, send out the recall. help me protect my family and those around me from any accidents that may happen due to this faulty door latch. i hope this reaches some one who can help prevent my family from any accidents, and who will help others stay safe that have this vehicle problem. thank you for reading my cry for help. *tr....updated 10-27-15 *bf the consumer stated when the door was locked. the alarm kept going off, because the system was detecting the left rear door was opened. also, the interior lights kept coming on for a while, and eventually they went out. they would come on periodically since the system sensed the left rear door was ajar. updated 01/15/16.*jb
