We have classified the 7 complaints from 2012 Ford Edge about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Drive door ajar on panel, doors won't lock, interior light stays on initially, while driving it will say to shift to park due to the door ajar...when you accelerate, the doors do not lock like normal. after turning car off sometimes can't lock to vehicle and the interior light stays on for about 5 minutes. *tr

The 'vehicle door ajar' warning on dash will not extinguish. this effects the interior door lights, the warning chimes, and the door locks. this problem is related to the drivers door latch assembly which has failed! *tr
The front driver door latch is not working properly. it fails to close. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the door warning light illuminated when the door was closed securely. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000. the vin was not available.
The warning light and sound for the driver door being ajar comes on and stays on. the interior light stays on while driving because of this and will stay on after the car is off and doors are locked or unlocked. i've taken it into the dealership to have it fixed and was told it was simply the sensor needing to be cleaned. after i had it fixed and paid to have it fixed, the problem began again about two months later. i've found that this is a very common problem with the ford edge and owners are having to pay to get it fixed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the four interior doors failed to lock. in addition, the front driver side door warning indicator illuminated even when the doors were closed securely. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who sprayed a lubricant to the front driver side door but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Door ajar sensors/light doesn't indicate when doors are closed, and will come on for no reason when vehicle is driving. this causes the interior lights to illuminate and doors unlock/unable to lock. very dangerous at night or when i drive with children in the car. *tr
The drivers side door ajar light/warning appears even though the door is fully closed. this prevents all doors from locking. there are times when the warning is not on but after a passenger closes the passenger side door the drivers side door ajar warning turns ons. i have had this issue serviced once by ford but it is not happening again. ford issues a service bulletin but that appears to be only a stop gap measure since the problem recurs. *tr
Have had the same issues with both the driver door and rear passenger (drivers side) latch or sensor improperly working. both door latches and or sensors malfunctions make the door ajar light in the instrument panel stay lit, and makes the overhead lights stay on. the interior light staying on makes it difficult to drive at night and also drains the battery.
My drive side door does not sense it is closed and the light stays on and the dome lights stay on longer. periodically because the switch is saying the door is open, the dome light, headlights and rear lights will go on when nobody is in the car. *tr
*tr
The door ajar warning indicates the door is open when the door is actually closed tight. if you slam the door hard, the warning clears sometimes but may come back on without the door being opened. this is a poor alarm system design. ford should take responsibility for the design and issue a recall. the original latch was replaced under warranty at about 30k miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the door ajar warning indicator chime multiple times. the contact mentioned that the lighting on the instrument panel malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician cleaned the sensor. however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 30,000. updated 03/10/15*lj updated 06/17/2015 *js
Driver door ajar warning remains on at all times. even when door is securely slammed shut. this causes a warning to appear on the dash, the "dinging" continues every time the brake is released, the dome light remains on for a few minutes when beginning driving (dangerous at night) and remains on after exiting the vehicle (because it thinks the door is still open.) this has caused my battery to drain twice. the dome light is extremely distracting while driving at night and there is no way to turn it off. i have "fixed" the problem by using "keyboard cleaner". however, this only "fixes" the problem for a day or two. i have had this on-going problem for 2.5 years. the problem started right when the car hit 30,000 miles.
The door ajar does not shut off.no matter how i close the door.at all stop signs red lights it continues to tell me to shift to park because of "door ajar".the interior dome light will not shut off because of the "door ajar".i cant see out my rear view mirror because of the interior dome light.im afraid to drive the car i never know if im going to fall out while driving due to "door ajar".i brought it in to ford for repair later found out they just "cleaned the wiring".9 months later problem is back and even worse. something needs to be done about this.
The indicator light for the driver's side door being ajar will not go off. the door is most definitely not open, yet the indicator does not register the door as being closed no matter what we do. *tr
Drivers side door latch which has sensor, built in, to notify computer the door is closed works only intermitenly. repaired under warranty, then lubercated and adjusted after 36,000 mile warranty expired. each repair only lasted a few months. still having problem. shows door ajar at almost every stop with annoying and distracting alarm ding. leaves message on insturement panel, blocking other vital readings and possible alerts until acknowledged(temp guage, ect.). leaves interior lights on causing battery drain and being stranded by dead battery. will not lock or unlock with key pad. this happens daily. first repair back in 2014.
I have been having intermittent issues with the sensor not reading that my driver side door is latched. today, it is constant and will not even allow me to lock the doors! i have tried several times to get it to "latch" and clearly the door is closed, but the "door ajar" warning is still illuminated. *tr
The driver door light will not go out have to slam door multiple times. had to go get a replacement door part. *tr
The drivers door does not close all the time and the light comes on and it beeps very annoying......it is a safety hazard as the doors will not lock when this acts up. *tr
The driver door latch signals that the driver door is ajar when it is not. this prevents the door from locking and also affects the instrument panel display and interior lighting as well as the alarm system. *tr
The door ajar warning keeps on lighting up. we have to open and close the drivers door up to 20 times and sometimes the warning goes off and sometimes it does not. it is very annoying because if it doesn't turn off there is a beeping sound going on while you are driving asking you to pull aside and close the door again. it also affects while you are driving at night because the interior lights wont turn off and it makes it difficult to see where you are driving, specially if it's on reverse, or when you get out of the vehicle and put the alarm on, the interior lights keep on and am afraid it will affect my battery in the long run. we took it to service at the dealer but there is no recall yet and it costs around $418 to fix. i think it's a manufacture thing and ford should be responsible for this fix. *tr
The "door ajar" sensor is making a false reading that constantly says the driver side door is open when in fact it is not. due to the car "thinking" the door is open, you can not lock the doors while driving. a child falling out of an unlocked door or a car jacking because of this issue is a huge safety concern. a simple google search for this issue will show that this is a very common problem with many ford vehicles. to have the sensor repaired cost anywhere from $250 to $400 which is most likely why ford continues to let people drive these unsafe vehicles. *tr
The alert for 'driver door ajar' comes on and will not turn off, regardless of how many times and/or how hard/soft the door is closed. this causes the interior lights to stay on after the car is turned off. i am now driving around, ignoring the alert, which is dangerous because i could potentially be driving with a door that is not latched properly, which could result in a serious injury. thank god it is not the door that my son uses. i am hearing from every ford owner i've spoken to and all over the internet that this seems to be a problem in the majority of fords, so i think someone needs to look into a recall on this. thank you. *tr
Drivers door ajar alarm is sounding when door is fully closed. *tr
Driver side door ajar light remains on when door is properly closed. seems to be a common issue w/ford edge door latches. *tr
The driver side door does not always register as closed. while driving at speed with the door securely closed it will display warnings on the dash, unlock all doors (including rear doors with my children in the backseats) and turn on the dome lights. this has happened when starting the car, while traveling and when parked and idling. it also means that i cannot lock my doors when i leave it parked. it causes interior and exterior lights to remain lit when car is off and drain the battery. i am concerned for the safety of me and my family as well as the security of my vehicle.
Driver door ajar warning continually comes on at random times, or sometimes not at all. after awhile it was coming on all time and the dinging bell was driving me crazy. had it fixed at the dealer, at my expense of course. *tr
Door ajar sensor in drive door malfunctioning, shows door is still ajar after multiple attempts to close. door is closed but sensor will not go off. keeps beeping while driving down the road. *tr
Driver door ajar warning comes on and will not go off due to defective door latch switch. dealer repaired switch but did not replace it like i had wanted. problem is solved for now but i'm sure it will come back. this needs to be a recall. *tr
The driver door ajar light stays on even though the door is clearly closed. as a result, the doors will not lock. *tr
The driver door latch signals that the driver door is ajar when it is not. this prevents the door from locking and also affects the instrument panel display and interior lighting as well as the alarm system. *tr
When closing drivers door on the dashbord shows drivers door ajar, when drivers door is closed to amend this problem you have to slam the door using force. *tr
Vehicle states "door ajar with all doors properly closed. complaint is ongoing. here is the issue. the interior lights are on and remain on until vehicle is going over 5mph in a forward gear. you totally lose visibility to back up. you cannot see anything to back up. it is difficult to seeing going forward to attain 5+ mph to turn off the interior lights. the problem is minimally annoying during daytime hours and is extremely dangerous at night. you are forced to back up totally blind. it is dangerous you could back over a pedestrian, a fixed object, or another car. ford took a reliable and simple process and created a difficult (and expensive) unreliable process and it is failing on several cars. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the front driver side door ajar warning light continuously illuminated when the door was completely closed. the failure caused the internal dome lights to remain illuminated and caused the battery to drain. also, the contact noticed that the doors failed to stay locked while driving. the failure recurred multiple times. the dealer stated that the sensor inside the door might need to be replaced; however, the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Door ajar stays on with lights and dinging noise even though door is closed! *tr
The door ajar light for my drivers door will not go off. my doors do not lock because of this .a bell chimes when i stop my car also because of this. *tr
Door ajar sensor in driver door malfunctioning. shows door is still ajar after multiple door slams. *tr
Door ajar light stays on sometimes, even when the door is shut. *tr
Drivers side "door ajar warning" comes on very often and won't go off. doesn't always come on immediately, but while on, won't allow doors to lock while driving. very dangerous situation. when it comes on, not always in a position to stop immediately and put in park to reset . must stop and repeat closing until it takes. again very dangerous. lastly, when exiting the auto if the sensor fails then the lights stay on an extended period, running the battery down. not allowing the doors to lock and alarm to set. *tr
Nhtsa, this has happened a few times and its a bit annoying. when driving, or even parked, the door ajar light would come on for the driver side door even though the door is firmly closed. once you reopen the door, and close it again, the light _may or may not_ turn off. this has not only affected me, and a close neighbor, however it also happened to a number of people as well. the fix, according to ford, is to clean the latch assembly and if it fails, then replace. however this is a costly repair and since it affects so many ford vehicles, we believe this should be looked at by the nhtsa. *tr
Front drivers side door, the door is closed and the sensor says it's ajar. i have to slam the door to have it read that it's shut. the interior lights will stay on even though the door is shut. *tr
Having a problem with the drivers side door. the door is completely shut but the door ajar light comes on. have to slam the door several times and even then the door ajar warning comes on. i think this is a safety issue that should be looked into. possible latch replacement. *tr
I purchased a 2012 ford edge used with 34,000 miles on it. at 39,000 miles i started receiving a "driver door ajar" warning even though the door was completely closed. having researched this online i am finding multiple reports on message boards regarding this problem. the estimated repair cost is $250-$400 and requires a dealer part, the door latch module, to fix this. some folks report spraying something like dw-40 relieved the symptom but i have had no such luck. i find that if i use a pen or small object and push the latch closed manually and then pulling the handle to "open" it the symptom will abate for a while but returns soon. the door latch is on national back order which should indicate the number of people experiencing this issue. the primary reason i feel this is a safety concern and not just poor craftsmanship is for one, every single time you leave a stopped position a chime goes off and the vehicle display throws up alerts telling the driver to park the car. this is both annoying and distracting. secondly, once the driver is sufficiently numb to the erroneous message if the door truly is ajar he/she will most likely ignore the fact. *tr
2012 ford edge door ajar alarm safety issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while the driver side door was completely closed, the door ajar indicator illuminated and the chime sounded. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,500.
The door sensor says the door is open and every time the vehicle stops or slows down, there is a beep and the sensor on the dash says to put the car into park .the door is not open yet the car says it is. it is dangerous because if the door really doesn't close we wouldn't really know. there is also an annoying beep that is constantly going on to alert us to the fact that the door is ajar, but it really isn't. it can be very distracting. after the car is off the indoor lights stay on because the car thinks the door is still open. this needs to be looked into and i believe should be recalled. i spoke with another owner and they have had the same problem! *tr
The door ajar light stays on no matter how hard you close the door. *tr
Driver door ajar warning light started coming on - and staying on - even after door appeared to be shut properly and securely. the door latch had to be replaced at a cost to me of $613.93. *tr
