Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the warning light indicator illuminated when the front passenger side door was closed, which indicated that the door was ajar. the interior dome light remained illuminated. the contact applied force several times to close the door, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
Faulty/failing door latch sensor triggers "door ajar" instrument panel and sound warnings while engine is on, causing doors to unlock, interior lights to come on, and continued sound warnings whenever vehicle accelerates. when vehicle is stationary and engine is off, sensor fault causes interior lights to remain on for 10-minute cycle that cannot be manually overridden (per ford). issue was addressed while vehicle was under warranty, but ford will not address it now under warranty or "goodwill" repair program.
Something has happened to the passenger door/door latch. when fully closed, a message appears on the instrument cluster stating "passenger door ajar". now, when the vehicle is in motion, the doors cannot be locked. if you try to lock them, they unlock automatically. dealer won't fix as it is out of warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the driver side door failed to secure and the door ajar warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 43,374. updated 09/29/16*lj *tr

2012 ford edge se. i notice that sometimes it would show door ajared warning light. i would have open and close my door several times before the light go off. then it progress to the point now it's permernant. now doors won't lock while driving, interior lights momentarily stay on and the alarm beeps twice ( warning that the door ajar is keeping it from setting properly.
Driver's door ajar warning light stays on, doors will not lock, interior light stays on
The driver door sensor states the door is ajar, although it is closed, registers open. the latch is defective.the door ajar warning sounds on the dash board, dome lights stay on and doors do not lock. door has to be opened and slammed closed many times for the warning to go off, but only temporarily. hard to lock car, dome light stays on. happens while driving, in park, basically anytime the car is on. had the issue fixed at a dealership - had to pay $494.00!! i see this is an issue with many ford edge owners - ford needs to get this fixed and recall - unsafe!!!
My driver side door ajar light would stay on after closing my door, whether parked or in motion. i would have to close it 5-10, sometimes more times, to get the light to go off. even if i slammed the door sometimes the light still wouldn't go off, and the warning signal would chime as i drove. i bought the car used from a honda dealer, and the salesman told me it was likely just a sensor issue, so i ignored it for a month or so before taking it in to a ford dealership when i thought i could afford to have it repaired. they did diagnostics on it and told me it wasn't just the sensor, that the door was actually open because the latch wasn't closing properly. they told me if i got in a wreck my door could fly open, so i let them repair it. they replaced the entire lock assembly on the driver side. i have attached my invoice for record of the repairs made and the cost.
Rear driver side door ajar light will not turn off, have drained 2 car batteries, the alarm goes off at random and the interior dome light stays on. had to pull cabin lighting fuse to stop battery from draining. the indication is constantly on there is no way to tell in door is actually ajar or not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. when the driver side door was closed, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated, the interior lights illuminated continuously, and the warning alarm sounded. while driving at night at various speeds, the interior lights obscured the contact's vision while driving. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000. updated 05/11/16*lj
Driver's door sensor is faulty. the vehicle's instrument panel will indicate that the door is ajar when it is firmly closed. this alert often appears while the vehicle is in motion. when i exit the vehicle and the problem occurs, this will prevent the interior lights from going out and it will prevent the security system from arming. this problem is distracting while driving due to the alerts and the interior lighting, especially at night. the issue has also resulted in theft from my vehicle. when the vehicle is off, the dome lights do not go off as the sensor indicates the door is open. while parked outside my house, my vehicle was broken into without the alarm sounding, resulting in theft of personal items including checks, cash, and electronics. the vehicle's battery has also drained overnight to the point of needing a jump start.
The door sensor says the driver's door is open when it is not and stays on. this does not allow the door locks to close and is unsafe. the interior lights also go on and stay on for a period of time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the door ajar warning light illuminated with all doors closed. in addition, the dome light remained illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 04/06/16*lj *js
Soon after purchasing a used 2012 edge, the open door light on the dash came on and would not go off. all doors were closed. also the doors would not lock when the light came on which became a safety hazard particularly when transporting children. brought it to my mechanic and he said the door latch and light switch was one module and that it had to be replaced to the tune of about $500. once replaced the problem was solved. looking online, this is a really common problem. i feel its a defect that should be recalled and replaced!
Driver side door ajar warning light and message displayed after entering or exiting the vehicle even though the door is shut. problem occurs intermittently, seemingly more often when outside temperatures reach above 70 degrees. attempts to open and shut the door multiple times often does not resolve the issue. when issue occurs the doors do not lock automatically when the vehicle begins moving, interior lights remain on. occurs when starting to drive the vehicle or when parking. if parking, when the key fob "lock" button is pushed the horn honks twice rather than the normal single honk, indicating that the security alarm is not activated. problem occurred within the first 10k miles and was fixed by ford dealership under warranty. problem started to occur again around 35k miles (jan 2016).
Power steering wines and is not responsive in temperatures below 35 degrees. also the drivers door latch does not work properly warning light says door ajar and dome light stays on.
2012 ford edge began having a "door ajar" error. when this happens, you are unable to lock the doors with the keypad. not being able to lock the vehicle is a major issue. this problem is caused by the failure of a micro switch assembled in the latch mechanism. when this switch fails, the signal to tell the car the door is closed is not sent.
My 2012 ford edge has driver door ajar indicator, closing the door repeatedly does not correct the problem. the car keeps telling me to shift to park. the door switch is a module inside the door.
The drivers door ajar light goes on after the door is correctly closed. this problem has gotten worse over the course of a couple of weeks. the light now stays on continuously and when the car slows to a stop a yellow panel light tells the driver to put the car in park. this is very dangerous and must be corrected as soon as possible!
Driver side door sensor is faulty and says my door is open while it is closed and keep dome light on and doesn't lock door when closed and use the keypad outside.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that when the door on the driver side was closed, the ajar warning light remained illuminated as well as the light above the passenger seat. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the doors and switch assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
Drivers door ajar repeatedly comes on, dome light illuminates, message to put in park shows. called ford motor co. who reports no recall!! this is a safety issue as it prohibits door locking, turns on interior light during night driving. ford advised that they didn't know if this would be covered by my extended warranty. how can that be? all they could do was give me a case number if it ever turns into a recall. even if out of warranty, this should be considered a latent manufacture safety defect! leaves me wondering how many owners need to report much less be injured before ford takes care of it. i would advise all who have experienced this to report to ford customer service.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the driver door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the failure had gotten progressively worse over time and that the vehicles door could not be secured. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the drivers side door sensor and latch would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. after starting the vehicle, the front driver side door ajar sensor illuminated erroneously, indicating that the door was not closed. when the failure occurred, the interior dome light would remain illuminated for an extended period. while operating the vehicle, an audible alarm would activate and a warning message to park the vehicle would display. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 48,700.
Receiving "driver door ajar" warning while driving, even though the door is secure. at one point i would lock the doors and as i drove the warning would sound and the locks would pop open. the door latch was replaced once before in 2012 by the dealer while still under warranty. now the dealer wants to charge me several hundred dollars to replace it again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving at any speed, the driver side door ajar sensor failed, which caused the dome light to remain illuminated and drained the battery. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while backing out of a parking lot, the front driver side door ajar warning light illuminated even when the door was securely closed. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 44,000. updated 09/21/15*lj
Door ajar comes on when i start the vehicle. this causes the dome light to come on and i can only get the sensor to go off when i drive forward and open and close the door while driving. at night, the dome light prevents me from seeing behind me when reversing, but i'm unable to use my "trick" of going forward and opening and closing the door to get the sensor to go off until i am fully backed up. the sensor also tells my vehicle that the door is open even when i exit the vehicle causing the dome light to stay on all night and i'm worried about it draining the battery.
Typical "door is ajar" error message. upon closing the door, the error message "door is ajar" pops up and the dome lights stay on with the chimes ringing. i also have a problem with the error message "shift to park". i believe these could be related. ford dealer replaced the switch assembly but this didn't solve my problem. this needs recalled as thousands are experiencing this saftey issue with this vehicle!
[xxx] without injury or change by us to the car, the "door ajar" warning began showing up in the instrument panel. the door is securely closed. the warning is on the panel, the warning beep is sounding, and the interior light remains on until you drive forward about 30 feet. this makes backing out of parking spaces, driveways, etc difficult because there is no way to see where you are going because of the bright light. lubricating the door latch assembly does nothing to help. updated 10/9/15 *ln.......updated 10/19/15 *bf updated 12/21/15 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *bf *tr
Drivers door ajar warning will not go off. this is making the interior lights to remain on, the door won't lock will in the car. need help in getting this to be handled by ford motor company.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the driver door ajar warning indicator illuminated when the door was closed. the contact mentioned that due to the failure the door was unable to be locked from the inside. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 34,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the front driver side door would not close properly and would set off the alarm. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the sensor in the door that confirms the door is closed and locked needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was not available.
When driver's door is closed, the "door ajar" light is still on the display. you can slam the door hard several times before it will go off. many times, it reappears after you begin driving. this causes a safety hazard to my family because my wife is not able to lock the doors when inside the car. (the "door ajar" will not allow it to be locked). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the drivers side door ajar warning lamp light stayed lit when the door was closed indicating a malfunction or failure. the failure was causing the internal dome light to remain illuminated each time the failure recurred. the vehicle was to be taken to an authorized dealer to inspect and diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000. pam
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. while driving approximately 2 mph, the door light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact had to open and close the door three or four times in order for the light to dim. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 53,052.
Driver door ajar light comes on. door has to be opened and closed in the park position several times before the alert goes away. constantly check the door and it is indeed closed but alert is still there. *tr
My driver side door does not register as closed. the cabin lights stay on and the doors don't always lock because the car thinks the door is ajar when it is not. when driving the car i get an alarm in the dashboard that continually states the driver side door is ajar.
The driver door ajar light and signal is continually being activated even though the door is closed tightly. this also prevents the doors from being locked while driving and the dome lights stay on for a while causing a safety issue. *tr
2012 ford edge door ajar sensor stays on,doors won't lock and warning buzzer sounds every time i stop. *tr
I pulled out of my driveway and at 9 mph my doors automatically lock. they all locked with the exception of my rear driver door. the door ajar light was still lit on my instrument panel. i opened the door and reclosed it several times. a few harder and a few lighter slams and it never went off. the light stays lit for a few days to a few hours and comes and goes off as it pleases. i have even refrained from using that door and it will still go off and light up when it wants. i have found several posts on the internet of this same issue with other ford vehicles: f150, edge, ranger and escape newer year models from 2007 to current. if the doors do not lock this puts the person or persons in the vehicle at risk. it is a safety hazard. this may also affect the proper activation of the alarm which is also a safety hazard. this is a costly fix that is unnecessary to the consumer since this is such a common problem with ford trucks and suvs. it would be a relief to know that ford could be taking such serious consideration since it puts its consumers in jeopardy. i love ford and especially my ford edge, but this is a very annoying problem and concern for my families' safety. *tr
Ford edge latch door ajar dome lights stay, doors not lock. not safe to drive. *tr
Drivers door ajar light illuminated when door is closed....not allowing the door to lock while in motion. *tr
Door ajar light keeps coming on, telling me that my door is open when it is not. this is the second time happening in a 6 month period.... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. when the vehicle was started, the door ajar warning light illuminated and remained illuminated while the door was closed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the detils of the repairs were unknown. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
The door ajar sensor on the driver side door fails to function properly making the vehicle react as though the door is open even though it is actually closed. this prevents the doors from locking and prevents the dome light from turning off. the door ajar alarm and light will not stop alerting the driver to the problem. because the doors will not lock, there is a danger to driver and passengers while moving. when dome light fails to turn off, the car battery can run down preventing the car from starting. *tr
The driver door latch sensor went bad. it keeps saying that the door is ajar. when it is not. this is a real safety issue. for example, what if i don't close my door completely, i would expect this warning to come on. but right now the door warning is always on. so i really don't know if my door is properly closed or not. so far i am "slamming my door shut" to ensure that it is properly closed. *tr
My drivers door appears to not be closing but i know it is shut. the doors sensor shows on the dashboard that the door is open. i have to slam the door several times to get it to shut. this is a problem because the doors will not lock if i am driving down the road. this can be very dangerous when traveling. i would love to see a recall on this because i have done nothing and i was told by my local ford dealership that i will have to pay $370.00 to get it fixed and i just don't see that as fair and reasonable. *tr
My driver side door latch is defective. the sensor is showing that the door is open when the door is actually closed. this causes my interior lights to remain on and it eventually drains my battery.
