Problems with 2011 Ford Edge EXTERIOR LIGHTING

On average, the 2011 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the EXTERIOR LIGHTING and its various aspects after 67 566 miles.

Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2011 Ford Edge

Inside lights stay on after door closed, door ajar light stays on on dash. door locks want lock or unlock at times.

Driver door ajar stayed on....interior lights stayed on....doors would not stay locked....high beams would not turn off. could not drive my vehicle at night. all safety concerns. i just paid ford motor company for new switch assembly and door latch assembly and labor. total cost was 833.19 for parts and labor. when i took my car in i mentioned to the dealer that i had seen numerous complaints online with the same issue. they didn't care at all. i had no choice but to pay to repair.

Door ajar warning always on resulting in doors not locking when car is in motion, dome lighting staying on when exiting the car and not being aware if car door is shut.

The 2 front door switches work sometimes. when parked the car thinks the doors are open and keeps the lights on. sometimes for no reason the interior lights turn on and it drains the battery. plus when the switches are not working the car does not think that it is locked and will beep twice when locking the car. when the switches have failed the doors will not lock when driving. i have been stranded because the lights will just come on when in a store and the battery will drain down to where the car will not start.

Door ajar stays on even when door is closed, drivers door and passenger door. dome lights stay on and doors do not lock when driving, also comes on in middle of night when the car is just setting and nobody around it. at night when you are trying to back up the light is affecting the sight since it glares in your eyes causing you to be unable to see what is around you. i put a date of today but this has been going on for a month.

This is a follow up complaint as advised by mary at ford motor company. ford did issue customer satisfaction program 19n09 refund for the driver side latch, however i had to replace the passenger side latch as well so would like a refund on both latches. door ajar lights stay on which causes automatic door locks to fail, dome lights to remain on while driving as well as when vehicle is parked and turned off. when driving this causes a safety hazard because anyone can enter the car at a stop sign or light and cause harm to vehicle occupants. additionally, dome lights stuck on while driving also poses a safety hazard. when vehicle is off and dome lights stay on, this drains the battery as well as fuses. we have had to replace the vehicle battery as well as fuses. we recently had to pay $1144.40 to have the door latches replaced and were told this is a known issue with ford. i reached out to ford customer service and was told they have not issued a recall for this problem. date and mileage may not be accurate as this issue has been happening for many years, however we finally had no choice but to replace the door latches when my husband's wheelchair was stuck in the back because the fuse had blown and the back hatch door would not open.

When driver side door is shut light stays on and says door is ajar, makes battery run out of juice. passenger side air bag is off at all times even when passenger is sitting in seat.

The 'door ajar' light on the instrument cluster stays illuminated even when all doors are properly latched. this malfunction disables the automatic locking feature when the vehicle is put in the drive position. it also causes the interior lights to stay on and has caused my battery to be drained several times to where i had to have the vehicle jump started. i had to disconnect the interior lights which poses a safety concern for me in dark parking lots etc.

Door ajar warning came on with the door closed has very quickly got worse car will not lock properly when off anyone can press the keypad and get in the car so potential break in and door do not lock while driving safety issue if my daughter reaches for the door while driving the dome lights stay on while driving safety hazard while driving at night. there needs to be a recall as i'm about to spend hundreds to get this fixed and it could potentially happen again !

Due to the latch mechanism on the doors, the computer thinks the doors are still open and the lights inside do not turn off which makes it very difficult to see and drive when the interior lights of the car are on. computer keeps saying "door ajar". the dealership wants to charge $600 to replace the latch mechanism and they don't guarantee that the problem doesn't happen again

For the past few months i have been having a door ajar issue with my driver's side door even though my door is completely closed and the interior light stays on running my battery down. do they have a recall regarding this issue as i should not be responsible for replacing a faulty electrical system that already has fuel problems .

The passenger door sensor does not work and is causing the battery to drain. i have been stranded twice. the doors will not lock when the car is in motion. i am afraid when driving my car.

The door agar warning and dome lights stay on and i am not sure the door is shut. the warning indicator and dome light stay on making it difficult at night to drive safely

Door ajar sensor on driver's door not sensing when door is shut causing doors not to lock automatically when in motion at any speed and causing battery drainage as lights will not turn off after being locked when parked, which also exposes contents of vehicle for potential theft.

The door ajar warning lights come on every single day for all doors. constantly causing surmountable stress to driver. if unable to get the sensor to turn off, the doors do not lock while driving, which is terribly unsafe for driver and passengers. also, because the dome light is connected to the door, the lights stay on draining battery. i've also had the door ajar sensor warning come on while driving down the road, when it was previously not on. there are also warnings "check fuel inlet", but there is nothing to check. the only problem is that the sensor has a problem! which then in turn makes the engine light illuminate because it thinks there is a leak in the fuel inlet, or perhaps thinks that the seal isn't closed because ford decided the cap-less fuel inlet was a good idea. it's not!

Passenger door ajar light will not go out although the door is shut completely. this causes the dome light to stay on when parked and causes other lights to begin blinking on and off, also has caused car alarm to go off for short periods of time and than stop by itself. the door ajar light is always on when operating the vehicle, and always when starting the car after engine off and parked.

Vehicle has begun to show driver door ajar at all times, even when slammed several times. this causes lights in cabin to remain on and drain battery when parked and even causes horn to begin to beep at all times during the day and night. also causes doors to lock or unlock while driving or while parked and left unattended. not secure for children to ride in car since locks are not reliable or to leave the car since you may return and vehicle has unlocked. this is very much a safety concern since it is impossible to back up or drive with the cabin lights on.

The 'door ajar' signal stays on even when the door is securly shut. this also causes the dome/interior lights to stay on. this also makes it so you can't fully lock up the car. after a certain amount of time this also causes the alarm to go off while the car is unattended. all of these things combined drains the battery, leaving us stranded. with a newborn and a toddler this is a major concern.

The door ajar light is staying on even after the door is shut. the interior and outside lights will stay on after shutting door, causing the vehicle to lose battery power if not detected early. if it is daylight this may be hard to see. it also does not let you engage the alarm, or even worse the alarm will go off for no apparent reason, also draining the battery if not detected early. i've only had this car a few months, but has been a problem since day one. i thought it was something that i was doing wrong until i did a little research and found out that i was not the only one having this problem.

Had problems with door side sensor saying the door was open when it wasn't. now the passenger side door is doing the same thing. the doors will not lock while driving if the door sensor is saying the door is open. this is a safety hazard. also, if the door open sensor is saying the door is open once you have gotten out of your vehicle and shut the door, the interior light will stay on and this drains your battery.

I have a 2011 ford edge. door ajar light stays on and does not turn interior light out. it has become very dangerous and difficult to see when driving at night. i am also not able to lock my doors. this is a safety issue and should absolutely be recalled!!! not acceptable that ford has not been required to correct this siruation.

The false door ajar signal shows up when i start the car, and prevents to doors from locking. dome light stays on, as well as lighting under both side mirrors which is causing battery drain. sometimes you can clear the door ajar by opening it again and slamming it very hard. this is the second incident of this happening, and had it last fixed at the ford dealership in june of 2013.

The door ajar switch stays on all the time . it cause the lights on the inside for few minutes and you can't see how to drive at night you have to wait for them to go out.

I am having problems with driver door. the dash light appears saying door ajar and my dome light stays on, even though the door is shut. if i open and shut the door multiple times it sometimes goes out. this is a safety issue as my door does not lock in thus condition. this happens when stationary. if i can't get the door ajar light to go out and i drive down the road it stays on. i took my vehicle to the dealer and they gave me two options, try cleaning the latch assembly, which may or may not help or to replace the part. i have not done either at this point. it will be $150 to clean it or $300 to replace. i told them i needed time to make a decision. this was on april 15,2016.

Interior light would stay on with false door open signal on driver side, then same thing on passenger side. under warranty at the time but had $100 deductible paid on each side. now warranty is up and r/rear side door ajar light staying on. this has to be manufactured issue and recalled. 2011 edge with now 86000 miles. help please!

Door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. dome lights stays on because the door ajar. doors don't lock because of the door ajar. had it fixed one time and now its doing it a second time.

The drivers side door always says is ajar causing my fianc to drive around with the dome lights on. she already has trouble seeing at night and this is a disaster waiting to happen. the door is clearly closed. i noticed the door sensors are built into the latch so i looked up how hard it would be to change with the part o amazon and came across hundreds maybe even thousands of people all with the exact same problem. i don't understand how this isn't a recall with so many vehicles malfunctioning over many many years! do the right thing! lives are at stake! if you do right by your customers we will continue to buy your great products! but not at the cost of what could happen if this continues. i thank you for your time. *tr

The driver door ajar light stays on even when the door is closed causin the enterior lights to stay on, possibly draining the battery overnight

The driver door is showing "door ajar" even though it is shut. the panel lights and dome light will not shut off. the doors will not lock. the battery is being drained from the lights not turning off.

Ford edge door ajar latch issue indicator light stays on while door is closed dome light remains on inability to lock the vehicle faulty latch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rlmgeehq38

Door ajar light is on and dome lights stay on. car wont start at times.

Drivers side door sensor malfunctions. when door is closed it indicates that the door is still open and dome lights inside the vehicle remain on even when driving the vehicle.

Tamara recall. ford edge 2011 : door ajar light won't turn off when door is closed. dome lights stay on, and can be very dangerous when driving at night

The door latch mechanism on my driver's side door slowly began failing. at roughly 35k miles, the "door ajar" warning would appear on my vehicle display. i would reclose the door and the warning would go away. it randomly continued to happen and resolve itself while stationary or while running, until about 95k miles ( 8 mo ago). there were electronic sprays you could spray into the latch mechanism that would make the warning go away for a limited amount of time. eventually the entire electrical mechanism failed. i could not lock my doors with the ignition on and eventually just learned to 'approve/ok' the warning every time the ignition was on. unfortunately there were several times when i was actually driving with an semi-latched/open door. i didn't know because i 'ok'd the 'door ajar' warning like normal. the only way i would know something was diffeent, would be when i drove at a high enough rate of speed to notice the increased road noise from my side of the vehicle. it is also my understanding that newer vehicles automatically lock once under way to disengage the door opening mechanism in case of an accident that might open the door- clearly this is not possible with the failed door latch. the only work around that i have discovered is to remove a fuse which removes the interior lighting and prevents the battery from draining. i still have to 'ok" the 'door ajar' warning though. as for locking the vehicle for safety in an accident, if you lock the vehicle first then turn on the ignition the vehicle remains locked. this workaround is rarely going to happen in the real world. there was a 'cleaning' procedure that several dealers offered for around $200, but it was not guaranteed and the $400 replacement might still have to occur with a latch that still often failed (per internet forums). my repair is scheduled for 10/8/16.

My door ajar light is constantly on for the back drivers side door. it causes my doors not to lock and my lights stay on. it has already ran my battery down and it causes my security system not to work. it is a safety hazard!!! i have called ford and they say it's not a safety hazard and there is not a recall.

Driver door ajar switch malfunctioning. consistently displaying "driver door ajar" when closed. this causes overhead lights to stay on making it difficult to see at night, also causes issues locking the door when exiting vehicle because it thinks the door is still open. this issue occurs everyday on most door openings/closings.

Door ajar alert comes on while driving (car in motion) - doors unlock, overhead lights turn on. i stop, open/shut door firmly continue driving and receive the same message later in the drive. i have on several recent occasions received this alert while stationary. this is occurring off and on but now has become more common. the door is shut but the alert comes on at a variety of intervals and when in motion the doors unlock and the lights overhead come in which can be dangerous in and distracting. most recent occurrence 12/3/15

Door sensor, latch issues. known problem with ford vehicles. door ajar stays on which drains the battery hence the dome lights stay on. my ford edge will not lock, causing very dangerous circumstances when driving or stopped at a light in an area that is unsafe. will not lock while parked, in drive (on highway or road) or with the ignition turned off. i was over my warranty by 1,000 miles and ford customer service refused to help me, told me to take it in and pay for the work and service call and submit a claim.

Lights stay on after parking inside and mirror lights. when driving interior lights stay on til a certain speed but doors do not lock and door ajar light stays on. the doors lock and the door light goes off spontaneously. also brakes feel spongy and pedal feels like it goes to the floor.

The driver side front door sensor is bad, which keeps the door ajar light on at all times, and keeps the overhead lights on for an extended period of time, which drains the battery and is also dangerous when driving at night. had the dealer "fix" the issue by doing a cleaning/cycling on the electrical part of the latch, but it only lasted a few months and now the problem is back. ford does not seem willing to address the issue as a safety concern - unsafe to drive with overhead lights on, and it drains the battery, which has caused other issues for me, including having to replace the battery well ahead of its intended useful life. *tr

Pasenger door ajar light stays on even after the door is closed . the light inside stays on after lucking the door.

Interior lighting stays on when in park or driving because of door switch malfunction saying door is ajar when it is in fact closed creates driving hazard when lights will not turn off and glaring off windshield making driving at night dangers please make a recall and fix this issue.

Headlights lost brightness. replacing bulbs does not fix the issue. there appears to be a hazy film on the inside of the round lower beam lens.

On 9/9 i left orange beach al to drive home to jonesboro ar with my 2011 ford edge - it quit on me at least 45 times. i went to 2 ford dealers, one mechanic on the road. first ford dealer had no clue how to fix it and told me to leave 3 or 4 days. next ford dealer wanted 1500.00 4 hours and maybe more. so i kept driving since part costs 184.00. when driving the car just shuts off. no power steering, now brakes no nothing. if i could i got to the side of the road and turned on my flashers. i waited a few minutes and cranked it back up. several times on the one lane road headed into hattiesburg i almost got rear ended by 18 wheelers and no side area to pull over - my car just quit - stopped and i stopped. i got to jackson 6 lane road 5:00 p.m rush hour and my car quit 6 times and i almost got hit there several times. my wrench icon comes on, my oil light came on, my engine light is on now also. the car abruptly stops - this is very dangerous - my husband got a car hauler and headed toward me and met me out of jackson. once, it stopped to abruptly that my dogs hit the dashboard in the front seat and were so scared. they were in the backseat. i have grandchildren that ride with me - so can you imagine the issues that could happen when this car just shuts off. this is a severe problem that ford needs to address this and so does safercar.gov. i called ford today and they all but laughed at me and said i needed to get a new throttle body installed and pay for it that the 2011 ford edge was not included in the consumer satisfaction program 13n03 that i found on a website. this is a very dangerous problem that ford needs to address immediately. i could have died yesterday trying to get home - did ford care no - they will when someone dies.

The driver side door is always ajar. the driver ajar light stays on at all times. this causes the dome lights to stay on at all times and run the batter dead. useless to purchase anew battery! also, this causes the security system to not work and i have tried the wd 40 thing and anything else that has been suggested to me and nothing works. battery is always dead and recharging and jumping all the time. this has been going on for several months now.

Door ajar light comes on and stays on and interior lights will not got out and at night time this is a real hazard from being blinded from the lights and you can't turn them off, also the door locks will not set because of this switch and other safety hazard. it happen about 1 month ago and has been a ongoing problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light remained illuminated even when the door was secured. in addition, the vehicle would not lock until after the third or fourth attempt. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was not available.

The driver's side door sensor is not working. door shows open, and the interior lights won't turn off. won't lock doors and several other problems. from all the feedback i've read, sure would like to see ford do the right thing and issue a recall on this problem. thanks!

The door ajar sensor keeps alerting - although door is not ajar - when car sits for any period of time this drains the battery. have had to replace battery twice. too expensive to have dealer repair.
