Lost brake pressure while driving and could not stop with significant pressure on the pedal. dealer was unable to find cause despite numerous examples of the same previously reported by others.
Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor before stopping. this is the second time the brakes have failed in traffic. brake master cylinder replaced at 58k, brake booster replaced at 32k. current mileage is 65k. dealership unable to find problem.
While moving brake pedal became hard and would not stop vehicle ford has a customer satisfaction program number 13n02 for repairs to failing brake booster ford also will not supply loaner vehicle why hasn't there been a recall vehicle is at 71,000 miles
I was driving home on the highway when traffic came to an abrupt stop. i went to apply my brake but the vehicle did not slow. i had to stomp as hard as i could on the brake pedal to stop before almost colliding with another vehicle in front of me. came within inches of the car in front of me. once home, i put the edge in park, i pushed the pedal very hard & heard a high pitched squealing noise. informed by ford this was due to the brake booster failing. i had the booster replaced previously in 2016 with the first recall and now 2 years and less than 15,000 miles later, the 2nd booster has failed. current mileage is 74,451 and i am now about to be on my 3 booster. ford will not cover another break booster even though each should last somewhere around 100,000 miles. i spoke with service dept and was advised the recall replaced booster is only guaranteed for 1 year or 12,000 miles whichever comes first. service tech said he couldn't do anything about the issue due to ford's policy. so glad the safety of my family's life is good for 1 year/12,000 with my 3rd break booster being installed at my expense today. no warnings no nothing, edge just wouldn't stop. not sure how many people will have to be hurt before someone will do something. ford is aware of the problem but it's cheaper for them to pay a lawsuit settlement than to fix the issue. i'm so glad i bought a ford so that i can shell out $800+ every 2 years for another brake booster if i'm lucky enough to survive finding out it's failed again.
Takata recall brakes would not stop/ replaced power brake booster
When car is moving sometimes when you stop the brake pedal is hard and you have to really push to stop the vehicle

I braked hard on a normal 3-lane city street to avoid an incident. i was going straight, not turning. there seemed to be no unusual circumstances other than an unexpected need to 'slam on the brakes' to avoid a bad driver. from that point 30-60 days ago, my brakes have been soft/spongy. (this happened once before but corrected itself after a few days.) the brake pedal passes its 'normal' point of effectiveness and engages only cautiously once pressed further to the floor. have paid ford $270 to have the brakes bled and diagnosed'a faulty hydraulic control unit. this seems to be common with multiple ford models. please research whether a recall can be issued as my brakes have been maintained and i should not have to pay ~$1500 for a faulty part used by ford'especially such a critical one, especially one that costs almost $300 to diagnose. additionally, ford already has issued an 'extended warranty' related to its brake booster in my year model vehicle. while the recall indicates a spongy brake as a sign of this trouble, the ford tech contradicted the warranty description and stated that a faulty brake booster would create a stiff brake instead. which is it, ford? please research both and ford's response and ensuing diagnoses related to the brake booster extended warranty. thank you.
The aws light stays on and says the driver stability controls are not working properly. took it to a ford dealership for servicing, charged 800 plus and the issue is still occurring. they claim it's a sensor issue but it's still happening! if i turn left or right the warning light comes on, if it's wet or dry the light comes on and when breaking the suv slides. will never purchase another ford again. not sure of the actual date the issue started happening.
I purchased this car june 10th 2017, it is now february 19th 2018 and my brakes have went out 4 times. this is the 4th time recently it has happened, the 3 times before they were said to be fixed. i was in the snow on a residential road when they went out. i am afraid if this car continues to drive someone will be severely hurt from the in-ability to stop the vehicle correctly.
On the highway my advanced service traction light came on and so did the abs light.also my passenger door is shut but my light in my car is on and the door ajar warning code comes on with the door shut. and comes on while i'm driving and i have to pull over to try to get the light off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving 45 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. there were no warning indicators illuminated during the failure. the contact stated that it was difficult to slow down the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to crossroads ford of kernersville, inc. (1330 nc-66, kernersville, nc 27284, (877) 331-8058) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred within two weeks. the vehicle was repaired a second time and the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 118,000.
After abs kicked in, pedal went to floor extending breaking distance. hcu is the problem. temporarily resolved by breaking hard on snow till reset
When using the brakes on an icy road the abs signal came on, then the brakes went completely down to the floor board. the car had no brakes. the brakes any other time has a full pedal. this has occurred twice in the last few days. luckily this happened on our dead end street and not on a highway.
Brake failure- brake pedal goes to floor when braking while in motion- the power booster has already been replaced by dealer under recall
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately 70 mph in traffic the brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle down, but the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to completely stop the vehicle. the contact was able to resume driving while his foot was on the emergency brake. the vehicle was taken to advantage ford in duarte, ca where it was diagnosed that the defective hydraulic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
When we returned from vacation we noticed the brake petal was sinking to the floor. the car would take a bit to come to a stop. at one point i was at a complete stop at a light. the petal sank and the car rolled forward and into the bumper of the car in front of me (no injuries). we changed the brake fluid and bled them many times. we researched on what might be wrong. ultimately i found that ford would replace the brake booster due to some sort of recall. they replaced it and said that the car still had the same problem. they said to replace the master cylinder, which they quoted $890 for. they also charged me $190 to do further inspection. we took the car home and ordered a master cylinder for about $80. we put in the master cylinder ourselves. we bench bled the cylinder and once it was installed we bled the brakes on 5 separate occasions, about 10 mins on each wheel. the pedal was still sinking. we had a mechanic come out to check our work. he said that everything we did was fine and he bled the brakes multiple times. still sinking pedal. he concluded that we may have purchased a faulty cylinder. i took it to 2 other mechanics, firestone and big o tires, they both said it would have to be the master cylinder. so...i ordered another cylinder. we had a mechanic come out to install. still...sinking pedal. he said that it might be the abs system, which i suspected. he also said that it may be that ford would need to use some special tool that only they have to reset something or other. so i finally gave in and took it back to ford. they told me that the hydraulic control unit had failed, and quoted $2042.50 to replace it, $1400 of that is just labor. the ford rep said that only ford service departments can fix this issue, because they have the correct tools for it.
Lost brakes or two occasions while driving and each time the booster was replaced. the 2nd replacement ford would not pay for. we lost total confidence in the vehicle and ended up trading it in for a hyundai sport.
While driving the vehicle is having difficulty coming to a full stop. the break booster is the issue. two more break boosters were switched in the vehicle. the care is still having the same problem. a total of four break boosters has been replaced in the vehicle according to the maintenance history. the car has become a safety hazard while driving.
2 main on going issues 1. brakes- from day one, constantly-needing to be re rotored / new pads / grinding squeaky sounds - all the time. ford blames me for ' not driving enough ' ?.? concerned for safety - will they fail? 2. took car in today 4.5.18 - for 2nd time due to odor of propane or gas when coming to stop / low speed or idleing.. was told no bulletin or notice out for issue - which was leaking fluid undercar -which ' could cause fire ' was told i could not leave with my vehicle, rental was provided under my paid warranty. review of online info shows many stories out as well as lawsuit on this very odor issue- yet i was never informed. smell has been ongoing since sept. 2017
Brake pedal going down to the floor. this has been happening intermittently for the past year. usually is noticed when needing to take evasive action while on the road. i've had car into the dealership and have had all brakes replaced, along with the master cylinder, and brake booster. the problem still persisted and am now told to have the hydraulic control unit replaced. from what i've read this is a problem with a number of ford models.
On 9/11/17 my wife was involved in an accident while driving her 2011 ford edge limited with approximately 80,000 miles. a van had cut her off during rush hour traffic on hyw. 635 in farmers branch, tx and she ended up rear ending it. i asked my wife what happened when i arrived at the hospital and the told me that when she went for the brake pedal it went straight to the floor and she heard a "sucking" sound but the car did not stop. our insurance company at the time (usaa) never investigated the brakes and totaled out the car. i searched google and have found similar situations involving ford edge crossovers but ford only has a tsb for this issue and not a recall. i just recently learned about this process and hope it will be investigated so that lives can be saved. luckily my wife only sustained minor injuries from the airbag and our children were still with our babysitter.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while the contact's son was driving at 30 mph, the brake pedal was applied but failed to respond. the contact's son drove it slowly to the autonation ford st. petersburg dealer located at 2525 34th st n, st. petersburg, fl 33713; (727) 231-1323 where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-392-3673 and was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that they could not do anything since the vehicle was too old and a case number cas-12952105 was provided. the failure mileage was 78,000.
The breaks doesn't stop all the way the part needs change is brake booster big
Brakes feel like they are not working. and make a hissing noies and petal goes all the way to floor when pushed. both when driving or at a stand still.
Brakes felt weak and made "hissing" sound. took car to mechanic had new front and rear brakes installed. driving home noticed brakes still felt somewhat weak and hissing sound still exists. did some research and found ford customer service program issued for my car due to bad brake booster! never notified about this extremely dangerous issue. found many posts from people who has serious issues with this. how in the world could the ntsb allow ford to get away with no recall??? if someone dies or gets seriously injured from this issue the ntsb will bear some of the responsibility for this for allowing ford to get away with no recall. 13n02 ' extended warranty coverage on brake booster ' 2010-2013 ford edge & lincoln mkx
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately 65 mph, the brake booster fractured and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to tracy ford (209-229-4006, located at 3500 auto plaza way, tracy, ca 953040) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
I received a recall for the break booster and had it repaired august 2015. in december 2016, the part failed again, as i was driving down the mountain and was out of warranty, had to pay 700.00 for repair. on march 15, 2017, part failed, while i was parking again, which it is covered by warranty, however, there is something seriously wrong for the brake system to continually fail and ford does not want to respond to my concern.
It started having problems with the breaks a couple of weeks ago when in the middle of the road the cars brakes failed and when all the way to the end of the pedal. first, i changed the rotors and pedals but it continued to had a problem, went to a pepboys where it was diagnosed a master cylinder problem. ordered the part and went to the dealer in mayaguez ford in puerto rico where they installed the part and they told me it had a recall for the booster of the brakes, installed it free of charge, but the same day they changed the parts, i still had the same problems with no brakes for a couple of minutes and then it stabilized. it happens a couple of times a day. don't know what to do next.
The driver side door sensor is bad. the vehicle is unsafe because the sensor remains on all the time even when the door is closed. so if the door is ever open, you would not know because all the sensors are bad so you assume it is just an error message. also - on this vehicle - the brakes feel spongy at times and are not good, even though having the brakes looked at and they have checked as confirmed sound with new rotors and pads.

Notification of a brake booster failure. my car is serviced regularly and the brakes werelways stated as normal. i seen an alert on your website about the brake booster and when i talked to ford the woman stated if you are not having problems ford will not do anything. i guess you have to get in an accident. she did say i could take it to a ford dealer and have them look at it which means i bear the cost since it is beyond warranty. since i contacted ford the brake booster failed and had to be replaced. i nearly got injured as the vehicle would not stop and kept rolling.. there was 81000 miles on the vehicle. another problem the vehicle is having is a driver side door ajar warning indication. i had it repaired once at 23156 miles. i now have it again. there has to be a defect in the door mechanism. i hear ford has a fix as a work around. when the brake booster failed the vehicle was in motion and was very difficult to stop as the pedal would not depress and remained hard and full
Purchased my 2011 ford edge in june/july of 2014 for jc lewis ford in savannah, ga. turns out there was an "extended warranty" in place because the brake booster's in this car have been failing. i'm not sure why they would have sold me a car without completing a repair or informing me of the possibility of malfunction. about a month ago, i was driving down the interstate at about 65 mph when i was cut off by another vehicle. when i went to tap the brakes to disengage the cruise control, nothing happened! i had to press the brakes about halfway down to get the cruise control to disengage and, even then, it felt like i did not have power brakes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately 25 mph and approaching a red light, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard and soft. the vehicle was driven very slowly to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vacuum brake booster was leaking and the booster assembly needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 34,027. ...updated 09/12/16 *bf *js
While driving the brake pedal began get hard and not depressing applying enough pressure the the brake pads. the harder you push the better they worked so determined the brake booster had failed. the problem was intermittent at first and then became regular. called ford service to find out they had extended the warranty on this part but did not do a recall. this is a dangerous part to have fail intermittently as it could go from needing a 100 feet to stop to 100 yards.
I was at a drive thru and had brakes applied and then i heard a hissing noise coming from brakes i let off brakes to move forward and the brakes went hard and to floor causing me to hit the car in front of me. i took my vehicle to dealer after i left and they said it was a brake booster that had been recalled. i have not received a notice or letter that the brakes were recalled. i now have damage to my front bumper.
On occasion, when breaking at slow speeds (like pulling into a parking space) while depressing the brake peddle, the car will accelerate and lurch forward. my foot was nowhere near the accelerator peddle. this happens about once every few weeks.
I own a 2011 ford edge. on june 2, 2016, my husband and i were driving on a highway, when we noticed a sudden problem with the car braking performance; unexpectedly, we started hearing a hissing noise coming from the pedal and the car would not stop; the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. fortunately, the road was not congested at the time, and we were able to slow down without causing an accident. regardless, this could have caused a serious accident; it's a miracle that no one was injured. this is not the first time we have experienced break problems with our ford edge. last year, during october, we noticed the same problem, particularly an excessive effort needed to stop, additional to the hissing noise. back then, we took the car to an independent private mechanic to get it fixed, where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced, so we spent a significant amount of money for the replacement. i'm certain this is a design or manufacturing flaw. a recall is defined as any widespread vehicular problem that results in a risk for those in the car. doing online research, i realized that many ford edge owners have experienced the same risky situation. through the ford website ' specifically the field service actions page ' i was able to identify that our vehicle was eligible for an 'extended warranty coverage on brake booster'. quite honestly, i was horrified! how come ford never notified me? why disguise this safety issue as an extended warranty when it should have been a recall? this is simply neglectful. i sent ford's customer service a complaint email, and a representative called me to vaguely explain the extended warranty terms and to apologize for my inconvenience, but refused to respond in writing.
Brake booster began failing at 24,xxx miles. my wife and our 1 year old son were placed into serious danger. the brake pedal became 'rock hard' and would not engage the brakes. the local ford dealer diagnosed and repaired this under warranty.
I was driving down a freeway ramp towards a stop light and pressed the brakes. the car didn't slow down. i had to step on the brakes completely applying pressure and the car did not come to a complete stop. there was a hissing noise that i heard from below the inside of my car near brakes. my car provide any warning of malfunction.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 48,000.
We were trying to stop at a stop sign, and the car wouldn,t stop. the brake peddle got very hard and wouldn't push down. it went back to normal a few seconds later. there are a lot of complaints and ford has a bulletin on this problem 13n02, this is a serious safety problem luckily there wasn,t another car coming. why is there no safety recall?
I had lost my brakes in sept, 2015. had new rotors and pads put on, then noticed that they were going to floor with hissing noise, had 2 brand new master cylinders put on, still no change in brakes, then had them replace brake booster the beginning of dec, 2015. no change in brakes, they still go to floor, i have put a lot of money into dead end repairs. ford garage wants another $100 diagnostic fee?? for what? i have gotten no answers, no help. i called ford who stated that they will communicate with the tech. the techs are saying they have never seen this before, and that the booster should of fixed problem. i have not had my vehicle more than i have. borrowing cars, etc. any help?? suggestions?
Lights stay on after parking inside and mirror lights. when driving interior lights stay on til a certain speed but doors do not lock and door ajar light stays on. the doors lock and the door light goes off spontaneously. also brakes feel spongy and pedal feels like it goes to the floor.
Approaching red light at major intersection. applying brakes and they are as hard as concrete. unable to stop! had to apply emergency break and put car in park. no prior warning. it appears to be a break buster/power buster issue. i know two other people with the same 2011 ford edge this recently happened too and there is no recall. i almost died. i have a 5 year old son driving in this car. why is there no recall issued on this?? i am 43 years old and have never experience something like this. i have old cars with 200k miles on them, never had this issue. are we waiting for enough people to die..
The brake pedal becomes spongy, and the vehicle takes a very long time to stop. almost rear ended someone and rolled through stop light. can push brake pedal to the floor and hear high pitched whistle while the pedal slowly recovers. numerous complaints at carcomplaints. com about brake booster. vehicle was serviced at ford dealer 7/18/2015 and i was advised there are no recalls. ford needs to advise owners there is a problem, to at least bring the vehicles in to be checked, if not replace the parts.
The brake pedal became as hard as a rock to press to get the car to stop while driving about 20-30 mph in highway stop and go traffic. finally when the car stopped it continued to happen until i reached my destination. my air conditioning was running at the time of the incident, when i got back in the car i turned off the air and the issue didn't happen again for another 3 days, again the air was on. thinking it was due to the air conditioning i really didn't think too much of it and would take it in when i had the time, until it happened without the air on. now it happens consistently. i have also started to hear a hissing noise every time i step on the breaks. i called ford they said it could be the brake booster which is covered under extended warranty but they won't know until they run the diagnostic.
While attempting to stop the vehicle a hissing noise begun to come form the brakes as i pushed on the pedal. the car stopped, but the pedal felt spongy and i have to push on it harder than normal to get the car to stop. have not had an issue where i could not stop, but i am afraid i might lose my brakes eventually.
