Problems with 2011 Ford Edge POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2011 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 50 854 miles.

Components Affected by POWER TRAIN Issues

We have classified the 156 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.

TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE) 1

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2011 Ford Edge

Driving on the road and making a right turn, the vehicle lost accelerator response. had to coast of the road in a very busy intersection. the check engine light and the wrench light on dash lit up. turned the car off and on 3 times and then i could drive like nothing happened and the dash lights went off. it happened again a week later on the highway at 65 mph. i was on th eleft lane and there was no shoulder so i had to coast thru threee lanes to the right shoulder. again, turned car on of several times until regained accelerator response. when i reached my destination i located an obdii scanner andd the p2111 code came up. this is the same issue as the ford escape that was issued an extended warranty. investigating thru the internet there are many complaints of the same issue on the ford edge. why is it ford not acknowledging the issue and do the same as for the escape vehicles? *tr

Second incident in 3 weeks. while driving, awd off light appears while the car is in drive. any attempt to accelerate fails and i had to drift through traffic to the side of the road. turning the car off and on seems to temporarily solve the issue. brought it to a ford dealer during first incident and they ran a diagnostic but nothing came up. this issue is dangerous and potentially life threatening. *tr

We were traveling on a highway when all of a sudden we lost "power" but it was only the ability to go. there was enough traffic and lack of speed to prohibit from moving all the way over to the shoulder. we made it to the slowest lane (furthest right hand lane). the only thing that saved us from being rear ended was there was a sheriff near by and saw us broke down stranded and he helped direct traffic around us for our safety. we were in an unpopulated area and had no resources for some one to come get us or know which towing company could help us, along with knowing a trusted mechanic out where we were. my car is less than 4 years old, this should not be happening. when we finally made it home out of sheer luck, we did lots of research on what the problem could be and found millions had the same problem with their fords. i love the company but i never end been so stressed out and scared for my children's safety. i bought this vehicle to be safe and it had failed me. like i said, i could be marking this form differently if the officer didn't protect us. the part was not cheap along with the labor. with so many other people breaking down for the same reason, i am shocked and appalled that there hasn't been a recall for this yet. i urge you to change that and keep the roads safe for all drivers. since the affected part doesn't have my specific part, it was the throttle body and even my mechanics said ford has never had a good one. wish i would of know that before purchasing my vehicle. *js

While driving on the expressway, i lost power, a wrench light came on the dash and the engine chugged. i pulled off at the closest exit, fearing the car would totally stop. *tr

It appeared to me that the engine disconnected from the drive train. a box lit up on the dash saying. "all wheel drive off." the vehicle continued to creep at an extremely slow speed. i stopped and turned off the engine. i started the engine again and the vehicle seemed fine. i did not have another incident for a few weeks. sunday july 13 it stopped probably a dozen times on a 10 mile round trip. since then it happens 2 or 3 times a day until today. today it has stopped 10 times before 10:00 am. (july 17, 2014). *tr

I was driving and my throttle went away completely with no warning. i was in the middle of a busy intersection with my 1 year old daughter in the car. i put my flashers on and drifted backwards trying to get off the road and hurried to get my daughter out of the car in case we were hit. after a mechanic scanned it he said the throttle body was bad. after some research i discovered that ford knows this is a problem but have only covered it through extended warranty for certain models and not the edge and the part is $500. i do not have this kind of money and its a faulty part through no fault of my own. i have 2 kids and this is my only vehicle. i need ford to cover this repair. *tr

Driving 43mph, my vehicle stalled while driving. the awd off and wrench icon indicators appeared on the dashboard. i had to swerve onto the median to avoid being rear-ended. this happened again on june 16, 17, 24 & 25. this has happened at varying speeds, faster and slower than the first incident. it ended up being the throttle body, and conveniently just 4000 miles past the warranty expiration. i was told by two separate mechanics that this is something they've seen many times, and if it were one of two other ford models, it would be covered under the extended warranty plan by ford. it is the same part in all vehicles, but only covered in certain models? this faulty part is putting people's lives at risk, or at minimum putting them in unnecessary danger of an accident and resulting financial damages that follow. if it's a known issue with the part, why is this allowed to continue? and why are only certain models covered? $600 later and i don't trust that my problem is solved. *tr

I have had multiple incidents of my car going from the speed i am traveling to where i am no longer able to accelerate which causes my car to loose speed very fast. a yellow wrench icon comes on everytime i have this issue. my car begins to shake and i am forced to have to shut my car off and wait a moment before i can restart my car. it went from once every two weeks to a week to multiple times a day. my hour drive turns into my car dieing up to 14 times just one way. this is beyond unsafe cause in rush hour traffic its nearly impossible to make it safely to a shoulder to shut off my car. there was one day where my check engine light came on and i was not able to drive it for a day. my car is 3 years old with 80k miles on it, this is not normal and shouldnt be happening. my car has been tested and the readings were on the throttle body module. i have not taken it to a shop yet because i should not have to pay for a faulty part that ford hasnt issued a recall on and repaired without money coming out of my pocket. *tr

As many have stated, drove about 1/2 hour downtown and dropped off wife and was on my way back home (did not turn car off even at the dropoff). still downtown driving about 35 mph and lost all acceleration. car just began to decelerate. still had power to the steering and breaks, radio, dash, etc.. just could not accelerate. pulled off to side and engine was a bit rough. turned off car and restarted. all was fine. took into ford dealership a few days later. originally they said it was a steering angle sensor module at a pretty hefty price. i suggested that i'll wait until it happens again (if it does) where we can get an alarm code from it. they did the rest of the regular maintenance and then when the guy took it out for test drive it happened to him. error code p21111 - faulty throttle body. it is on order but not under warranty even though i'm just under the 60,000 miles and not even 4 years old yet. *tr

I was driving when i lost acceleration. a wrench light came up on my screen. thankfully my brakes still worked and i was able to coast to a stop, almost getting rear ended by a semi, but then the whole motor started shaking and sputtering. i put my vehicle in park and turned it off. when i went to turn it back on it hesitated for a minute, but then started. this didn't happen again until a few weeks later while on the highway going 60mph! i've had it happen multiple times since then and almost being hit a few other times. i've noticed that i don't have as much power when accelerating even when the wrench doesn't come up. today it happened twice within a couple of minutes and the check engine light came on this time. i don't understand why they won't have a recall when so many people have an issue! i've almost been hit multiple times when this occurs and i would rather not have me or my child hurt from a malfunction that needs to be fixed! *tr

This is my 2nd complaint about this same defect as it has occurred 2 additional times (3 total incidents). the 1st incident occurred on 4/11. the 2nd incident occurred on 6/2 when my wife was turning right from an intersection. at approximately 20mph she lost the ability to accelerate and had to quickly change lanes and coast to the side of the road while avoiding traffic. she put the car in park and turned the vehicle off. once she turned the car back on, the car operated normally. the 3rd incident occurred on 6/3. my wife accelerated from a red light into an intersection and lost the ability to accelerate. she was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection with cars swerving around her. she again stopped her car from coasting, put it in park, and turned the car off. she restarted the car and it operated normally. i deemed her car too dangerous to drive and would not allow her to drive until repaired. i searched the internet and found the ford escape, fusion, mariner, and milan had the exact same problem the edges are having. those owners received an extended warranty for a defective throttle body. reference customer service program (csp) 13n03 and nhtsa action # pe13003. i took her car to the dealership and they could not find any error codes nor repeat the problem. he said he could not repair anything without this information. i mentioned csp 13n03 and he said he was aware of it but it didn't apply to the edge. since the problems were exactly the same, i asked if replacing the throttle body would fix the problem. he hesitated but after some prodding he said it would most likely fix the problem but he couldn't officially say so. i had them replace the throttle body on 6/6 ($698.06) and my wife has had zero problems as of 8/13, further proving it's the same defect. i hope ford steps up as they did with the other ford models and corrects this dangerous safety hazard. *tr

On 10 occasions, while driving the engine stalled and i could not accelerate. the "awd off" and engine icon would light up. in all incidents, i was able to pull over to the shoulder and avoid a rear end collision. i had the car serviced at a ford dealer, they had to replace the throttle body. they indicated that most of their issues regarding the ford edge has been related to a defected throttle body. *tr

During driving, the engine stopped and car would not accelerate, there was a complete loss of power. there was no warning, and the "yellow wrench" light came on, and car would not go. this was in the middle of the road and could not get off of the road. it happened so quickly, there was no time to react to try to pull over. lost steering and couldn't move anywhere. waited for 1 min or so, and restarted car. *tr

Vehicle stalled. this is the 4th stall. first 3 were on the interstate at speed, this time in the driveway. dealer has checked and found no issues, all diagnostics are good. full tank of good gas. no indications of what's going. seems to be identical to the same issue that was investigated and ford has acknowledged for a more popular model under ford consumer satisfaction program 13n03. based on the complaints i am reason online and the write-ups leading to the recall, believe the recall should be expanded to include additional models using the same technology...likely the same tb assembly. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated while driving the vehicle suddenly stalled. when the failure occurred, the power train malfunctioned and the power sensor light illuminated. the contact indicated that the defect occurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body was defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,320.

The vehicle in question started to die and there was no acceleration. i would restart the car and you couldn't really accelerate and eventually it would die again. no warning whatsoever. the vehicle was towed to the dealership and after three days they finally found that the camshaft broke and ruined the engine. the engine needs to be replaced. the car is only three years old and has 60,517 miles. i am 517 miles over the warranty and i would think in good faith, ford would honor the warranty, but i was told it's in black and white. no one can explain to me how and what caused the camshaft to break. "it's a freak thing" is not a good answer and doesn't answer my question. the technician is baffled. car has been very well maintained. i would also think that ford would want to investigate and get to the bottom of this so it doesn't happen to anyone else. ford needs to stand behind their product. their advertising is misleading because my car is not reliable and not built tough! you wonder why people buy foreign car because they last! *tr

Accelerator goes limp during acceleration and "wrench" icon appears on dash. the engine continues to run with electrical power, pressing on accelerator has no effect. car can be coasted to side of road. stopping and re-starting the engine clears the issue and car will accelerate normally. this has occurred 5 times, at random, at various speeds (i.e. 50, 60, 30 mph). car was taken into dealer after 2nd occurrence. dealer could not find any error codes stored and said ford procedure in this case was to "reset" computer. issue continued to occur after getting vehicle back from dealer. on the 5th occurrence of the issue, owner ran a vehicle health report (vhr) (before stopping and re-starting engine) and the issue was captured in the report. here is the issue documented in the vhr: the wrench icon may be illuminated in your dash or console or may appear in your message center. the vehicle diagnostics indicate a parameter that is out of normal range or that a component has failed. systems within your vehicle need prompt service and/or inspection. urgent powertrain malfunction / reduced power powertrain fault: illuminates when an electric throttle control (etc), transmission, awd/4x4 or fuel system fault has been detected. contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible. car was taken back to dealer on may 6, 2014. dealer identified error codes and said vehicle had a defective throttle body component. component will need to be replaced. ford extended service plan does not cover cost, owner is responsible for component replacement ($560.00 estimated). *tr

Issue 1 of 2: on 3 separate occasions the engine has suddenly lost power, lost speed and the engine shook and ran extremely rough. there was a message with a wrench on the screen that said see owners manual, but no useful information was given. the warning message later went away with no evidence of a problem. 2 of the incidents occurred at highway speed and nearly cause severe multi-car accidents. another incident was at a lower speed of about 45 mph and did not occur on a major highway. issue 2 of 2: as a separate issue, there have been 2 occurrences of a very hash clunk from the transmission that felt as if the vehicle hit something. more information: the vehicle was purchased used at carmax with 213000 miles on it, purchase date: 01/28/2014. *tr

I was just driving along, and all of the sudden the 2011 ford edge just stalled completely and would not move, so i was able to pull over to the side of the road when all of the sudden the whole care began to shake violently. the display showed a wrench and said to check owners manual, which according to fords owners manual means power train problem. i was able to restart the vehicle and drive it and it acted like nothing happened, got to work and parked. later that day drove it about a mile with no incident. left work and just pulled out of the lot same thing happened, stalled and shook violently so i turned the car off. it started with no problem, went to pull back in the lot and it all happened again. i had the car towed to mathew curries ford in nokomis, fl. service tech says hes not able to replicate the problem so he doesn't know what is wrong with the vehicle. there seems to be alot of other complaints with the same problem. this is a very dangerous situation that can cause serious motor vehicle accident, and ford needs to correct the issue since this seems to be an ongoing issue. i don't know if i will ever be able to feel safe driving this vehicle again. i just bought this vehicle and have not even made my first car payment, its in the shop already.. i am not happy!! *tr

Over the last month, my vehicle has had stalling issues while idling. all of the times it has occurred while my vehicle is idling at a red light and the vehicle sounds like the engine shuts off then jumps back on. however, one of the times, my vehicle completely stalled and i had to put my vehicle in park, turn it off then turn it back on. during this time the light had turned green and luckily no one was behind me. my local ford dealer is fixing this issue, however, they are saying it is not covered under the ford certified pre-owned comprehensive limited warranty or the ford certified pre-owned powertrain limited warranty. i researched this issue and noticed other ford and lincoln models have had the same issue and are within the same year as my ford edge was manufactured, 2011. *tr

I was driving down a busy road when all of a sudden the vehicle just cut off and the wrench light came up. i pulled over out of the way and it began to shake violently as i came closer to a stop, i then turned the key to off so it would stop shaking so violently. i tried restarting it ( somewhat struggled to restart but did come back on). the vehicle then was fine acted like nothing was wrong. since then this has happen multiple times. i took it to ford to diagnose the issue. my local dealership where i purchased the edge said it was the electric throttle body. they then began to tell me that they have had to replace this on several vehicles and ford has yet to recall it. this is very dangerous and this is the second issue i have had with this vehicle that effected the driving ability. the car has yet to be fixed due to waiting on ford's reply to my complaint with this vehicle. *tr

While traveling at approximately 30 miles per hour, the car suddenly stalled, although it would move at a very slow speed at a rough idle, maybe 1 mile per hour, no matter how hard the accelerator was depressed. simultaneously, a yellow wrench warning light appeared. i pulled into a parking lot and let the engine run, it remained running rough at a very slow speed. i continued for about a minute, then shut the engine off. after restart, the car ran normally with no warning indicators. i took the car to a ford dealer where they could not reproduce the problem, and was told that because i shut the car off, any error codes were cleared. they could also not perform a repair if they did not know the cause, although they said it is probably the throttle body. without error codes, there was nothing they could do. this is a safety problem, i was fortunate to not be on the highway going 60 miles per hour. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the power train warning light illuminated as the vehicle began to independently decelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the throttle body would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

When driving wrench symbol comes on dash . car losses power .when press on gas car does not move . rpm gauge goes crazy (up and down ).have to pull over .shut car off .restart engine. drive car until it losses power again without warning. very dangerous. someone is going to die this problem needs to be look at .it is going to happen in an intersection ,on a turn , on railroad tracks .only the car knows when it is going to lose power. *tr

While on an interstate highway going 65 mph. the car went limp-no power. wrench symbol and awd lights come on. after nearly getting rear ended trying to get to the berm, shut car off restarted it and it ran fine. took car to dealer where they diagnosed it as a computer issue. on 7-12-14 while on interstate going 70 mph., exact same thing happened. on 7-13-14, 7-16-14, 7-20-14 and 7-21-14 at speeds between 25 and 35 mph. this happened a total of 8 separate times. took car to ford dealer where they diagnosed it as replace throttle body and reprogram computer for total cost of $788.00. someone is going to die on a highway or making a left hand turn at an intersection if this problem is not properly addressed. *tr

Driving down the road, the vehicle suddenly lost power and the gas pedal became unresponsive. "see manual" warning light with a wrench icon came on. pulled car over, and restarted the vehicle at which time the car drove normally. took it to local dealership, where they were unable to pull the error code. continued driving vehicle and error occurred intermittently. today, occurred twice on my drive in to work (5 miles), the second time the "check engine" light came on. took vehicle to autozone, they pulled a p2111 code. having throttle body serviced tomorrow at local repair shop. the last time this happened today was in an intersection - very nearly caused an accident. this throttle body failure seems to be a common issue. i find it very curious that there has not been a recall yet as this is clearly a widespread issue and it is clearly a safety issue. *tr

Our 2011 awd ford edge is having an issue that it randomly loses acceleration while driving and a wrench warning will then show up as well as awd off warning sign, at the same time rpm gauge will fluctuate. the car will go limp and hesitate until it's in a safe area to stop then put in park and restart, then it will drive normal until the next the occurrence. which you will never know when. this has happen 3 times within the last week. we have found that it's become a safety concern and a life threatening issue that it randomly becomes unresponsive while on the road. ford dealer state's that there's nothing wrong and that theirs no codes on the vehicle. since my families lives are at risk, without any attempt to repair i've done some research myself. it's seems more than obvious that there's an issue after reviewing just a few of thousands among thousands of complaints regarding the same issue that i'm having with my 2011 ford edge. this issue has not only become a safety issue it has also become an inconvenience to my spouse and family. i ask that you ford service team makes every attempt to not put anyone's life at risk. without any attempt their will be no relief or reassurance that i or my family can feel safe in this vehicle. *tr

Our 2011 awd ford edge is having an issue that it randomly loses acceleration and a wrench warning will show up as well as turn on awd at the same time rpm gauge will fluctuate. the car will go limp and hesitate until we stop to put in park and restart, then it will drive until the next time it occurs. *tr

While making a turn the vehicle suddenly stalled out without warning, luckily the car coming towards me slowed in time and i was able to coast to the middle lane. check engine light appeared and also a wrench symbol. after a few minutes i restarted the car and it did turn on, i was driving without issues, when going 45 mph the vehicle shook and again stalled out. having my 1 year old son in the car was very frightening, i was terrified i would be hit by another vehicle as the edge suddenly turns off with no warning. being we live in a somewhat rural area and having my son, i was determined to make it home, which thank goodness i did safely, unfortunately after stalling out 2-3 more times. my husband took the edge to the dealership today which they claim it is the throttle body, and since we do not have the extended warranty is $800. after seeing these other posts it seems that there should be a ford recall. thankfully no one was hurt, but it can lead to a fatality if the edge stalls on the freeway or busy road, its very scary. i purchased a new car to feel safe and to have my son safe, i feel far from and i want nothing but to get rid of this vehicle. something needs to be done. vin unavailable as my car is still at the dealership. *tr

While driving the all wheel drive shuts down and you have no power. i shut the engine off and re-start. it worked for about 100 yards and did it again. it did this 7 times in less than 10 miles. it did not do it again for about 10 days. then it did it 5 times in less than 2 miles. it happens at various speeds. both in manual and automatic. this past weekend it happened another 3 times while out of town on a mini-vacation. *tr

While driving around 65mph, the vehicle suddenly went into "limp" mode with no ability to maintain speed. i was on a 3 lane bridge without a shoulder and it was difficult to navigate the vehicle safely through traffic from the far left lane, across the bridge, and onto the upcoming shoulder. the red "wrench" light came on along with the "awd" light. pressing the gas pedal had no impact to rpm's (which stayed around 700rpm). brake screeching from another vehicle was heard as my vehicle coasted across the 2 lanes of traffic. after coming to a stop, i turned off vehicle and restarted without any warning lights and vehicle drove normally. incident occurred again 1 week later in heavy traffic, aproximately 65mph. red wrench light, awd light. this time engine light also came on. i maintained my lane, put on my hazard lights, put car in neutral, turn off ignition while coasting, slightly tapped brake to restart the car. vehicle started but warning lights did not reset and vehicle still in limp mode. without the ability to maintain speed, i coasted to the shoulder and came to a complete stop. turned off vehicle again. restart and red wrench light was off and awd light was off. engine light stayed on. vehicle drove normally. took it to a dealer who replaced the throttle body at my cost. vehicle is not safe when suddenly going into "limp".

While driving the car the car 'stalled' meaning i had no ability to accelerate the car, all other items worked ok, an amber wrench light came on, i pulled over, restarted the car and it worked fine. it happened again 3 days later approx the same speed. seeming this has been an issue among other ford edge cars. *tr

Travel on interstate highway in middle of three lanes at 75mph. power to engine ceased. engine would not respond to accelerator. coasted across right lane of heavy traffic to get to right shoulder. coasted to stop. *tr

My husband was driving; we were on a trip. the speed dropped from about 50 to a crawl; no acceleration. he pulled over and i pulled out the owner's manual. the info said there was a problem with the powertrain and the car would be in limp mode. my husband turned off ignition and restarted. it was okay for another couple of miles then happened again. again he turned it off and restarted. the third time it happened, we pulled over and called ford. luckily there was a dealership close by. however, when we talked to them, they said they'd have to do a diagnostic. we didn't leave the car. we didn't have another problem until july 25, 2013. it happened again twice while i was driving. the car is now at the dealers being checked out for the problem. first impression, it's the throttle. *tr

Driving down the street and vehicle acts like it is running out of gas or vapor locking. accelerator all the way down and vehicle slowing down to a stop. wrench light comes on vehicle and take to ford dealership for repair. i feel like this should be covered under warranty due to the fact that several other throttles have reported going out on this year model. *tr

I purchased a certified used 2011 ford edge in january 2013. shortly thereafter, i started noticing some major issues. 1) the transmission whines at low speeds, until i accelerate & it shifts up a few gears. i have also had it slip & clunk while shifting gears 2) there is a loud popping from the front end, passenger side, when i am turning, especially in & out of parking spots 3) there is a whistle coming from under the suv, between the driver side doors & it does it in accessory mode or when the suv is running. i have now had it back at the dealer for the 3rd time & they are working with ford on diagnosing the issues. it is very disheartening to spend so much money for a vehicle & have such issues. thankfully it is certified & under warranty. the dealership has been good about getting me a loaner vehicle too. but i almost am ready to ask them to trade me out of it, because i am sick of dealing with the issues. it is embarrassing to have such a nice looking "new" vehicle & when people ride with me, they notice all the things wrong & say i got a bad deal. *tr

On march 9, 2013 while driving 40 miles per hour, the vehicle jerked as if i had hit or been hit by something, pulled over into a parking lot, got out looked under my vehicle walked around and didn't hit anything, my motor didn't come out, didn't get hit by another vehicle, no blowout tires, got back in my vehicle and drove home with no other issues (wow). then on march 31, 2013 while driving home from an out of town trip, almost home, on the interstate driving 75 miles per hour the vehicle jerked again like it did that day on march 9, my husband was in the passenger seat with his eyes closed and sat straight up and asked me if we had been hit. explained to him this is exactly the same thing that happened to me a few weeks ago. took it back in and of course the dealership could not replicate so a recorder was installed. on may 24, 2013 this happened again i pushed the button on the record and now my edge is back in the shop. i have been reading blogs on ford forum, apparently this problem has been going since 2007. if my vehicle decides to stall while this is occurring i'm in deep trouble i'll be rear ended and ford motor will have a law suit on their hands. glad it didn't stall out on the highway because i may not be here today. *tr

Engine stalled on interstate. had to pull into the emergency lane, shift to park, and restart. appears to be the same issue that ford has recalled for other models that use the same defective part! car was taken to dealer after this occurred, however the error codes do not retain after restarting. no trouble was found, could not replicate. have had subsequent stalls since, going back to dealer wednesday this week, however warranty has now expired. *js

I purchased this certified pre owned 2011 ford edge and 3000 miles into owning it the drive train has repeatedly slipped and when it engages it slams. this seems to happen at any time mostly from after stopping and sometimes as the car is just driving at low speeds. i`m taking it in for this soon but from these other postings i don`t feel so good about what to expect. *tr

As i was leaving work and pulled out of the parking lot onto the main road and my car stalled after reaching approx 10-15 mph indicating me to "see manual" with a wrench on the screen then flashing "check engine oil pressure". as i came to a complete stop my edge began to shake violently and the rpm's began to jump up and down frantically. i then turned my edge off for 30 seconds. when i restarted it, it started without issue and idled fine. i was able to back it up and drive it under 10 mph to park it over night. the following day (today) when i went to take it to the dealership the same thing happened except this time around only the "see manual" indicator flashed and i had to have it towed to the local ford dealership for servicing. still no word on what it could possibly be. i checked the oil level, it was normal and have been having it serviced every 3,000 miles. *tr

I own a 2011 ford edge with 39,000 miles on it. three days ago i was driving on a relatively busy road going 65 mph when all of a sudden my edge seemed like it lost all power to it. the "see manual" with a wrench screen came up on my dashboard, as my car slowly began to stop. upon stopping it began to shake and rumble violently. i put the car in park, and back into drive to start driving again. when i pushed the gas pedal nothing would happen. the rpm's would not even move. i turned the car off, and when i turned it back on it rolled over a couple times before it actually started. then it acted like nothing happened. then today (01/28/2013) i was turning in the middle of an intersection and it happened again. i wasn't even going 20 mph this time. i had to coast onto the turning late of the opposite direction after trying to avoid being hit by a couple semi's. i took it to autozone where they tested it, nothing seemed to be wrong with it. they even checked under the hood. on the way home, 20 minutes later it happened on the same busy highway. once again, i was almost involved in a couple accidents. i have tried looking everywhere to see where there is a solution but i can't seem to find one. i feel extremely unsafe driving this vehicle, and i actually am considering trading it in. it's a death trap, and it's sad to say because i loved my edge so much. if anyone has the solution to what is going on, please tell me. i'm tired of getting no answer. *tr

When driving between 30 and 35 mph on fairly level terrain but somewhat curvy my car will lung violently. first time it happened i pulled over thinking i had been hit in the back of my car. this has happened twice now. marshall mize ford dealership says there is nothing they can do unless they can replicate the problem. this car has ongoing issues with the transmission. my first complaint was 1 month after i bought the car. when driving approximately 57 mph on a decline if i every so slightly touch my brake pad my car will "slam" into a lower gear. i have had to bring the car to a complete stop to get it to go back into normal shift mode. actually had a ford engineer ride with me and tell me that was "normal". when i pressed him "it's normal to have to come to a complete stop to get my car back into normal shift mode" he just shrugged his shoulders and said there was nothing he could do for me. i actually had to pull off to the emergency lane one morning because me car did this and a transfer truck also most rearended me. *tr

I had been having on-going issues with engine surging, stalling and gear "skipping" since i first purchased the vehicle in december 2010, which i had reported to the dealership and about which i was in the midst of lemon law proceedings under ga lemon law. they are best described as similar in nature to those reported in the nhtsa investigation here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/02/25/probe-ford-cars-suvs-stalling/1945799/ at times, the engine would cut out at high speeds and i'd be stuck in "limp mode". other times the transmission would slip, then surge, making it feel as if i were hit from behind by another vehicle. still other times, it might stall out at slow speeds (i.e. while making a turn, etc.), leaving me stuck in an intersection and vulnerable to being hit by oncoming traffic. ford had attempted multiple times to fix this problem, but it kept recurring, even after many parts were rebuilt or replaced. finally, the unresolved issue culminated in an accident on 11/26/12. i was coming off on a highway exist ramp and the engine "skipped" and surged, propelling me into the rear of the car in front of me. no one was treated for injury at the time of the crash, but the driver of the other car did report injury after the crash. my issue is still unresolved by ford. they claim they can't duplicate the issue and have made no attempts to get me out of this vehicle, which i am stuck driving until i can complete the lengthy lemon law process. i fear for my life every day that i have to drive it and am afraid to transport my children in it. thank you for the opportunity to submit my claim. *tr

Two weeks ago my ford edge limited (2011), which i had for less than 2 years and it had ~21000mi, started to have serious problems. while driving on one of the busiest highways in houston, the acceleration suddenly disappeared (gas pedal went limp) when i was going 65-70mph. the car still had power and i was able to break and steer to the emergency lane. while doing that, almost got hit from the back twice. after complete stop at emergency lane, i restarted the car. it started fine, and i was able to get home, though i was afraid to take a highway. next day, same problem happened twice, and both times at about the same speed. these times, however, i felt strong vibrations when restarting the engine. all of the times, an orange wrench appeared on the dashboard indicating power train problems. after the second time, a light indicating that engine needs to be serviced soon also appeared. this light turned off on its own couple days later. i had plenty of problems with this car before. this was the last point when my patience with this car had ended. besides, i could get into a serious accident. luckily, all of the times i was driving after the rush hour and traffic was not too bad. otherwise, i would be definitely be hit by someone. in any case, i brought the car to the dealership and traded it in. no wonder, i was told in the dealership that they are not aware of any problems like this and offered servicing the car. i refused it, because of multiple problems i had with this car before and just didn't want to keep it anymore. ford definitely needs to recall 2011 ford edge with such problems. i will call them and complaint to them as well. for now, i would recommend people not to buy 2011 ford edge as it has so many issues, especially with electrical wiring/components and sync. this was the most expensive and most unreliable car i've ever had. *tr

Leak from power transfer unit 11/16/2012 #2 ptu still leaking and found metal shavings #3 1/5/2015 transmission slipping needed a new separator plate and new intake gasket and brake booster repair. *tr

Driving on i-65 in an area with 4-5 lanes of traffic with a speed zone of 65 mph when the vehicle lost power - wrench light warning light came on - had to maneuver the vehicle across 3 lanes of traffic during rush hour to reach the emergency lane. it was sheer luck that i made it to the emergency lane without being hit by another vehicle as i could not speed up the car and the speed was nearing zero mph. the vehicle had to be towed into the dealership where it was diagnosed and eventually repaired under warranty. it took the dealership approximately one week to repair the power train issue. per my research on various ford edge sites, this is a very common occurrence and ford has failed to recall this issue. luckily, i was not harmed. however, not everyone will be this fortunate. ford needs to recall this issue asap. *tr

I was driving with my two children on the highway going 65 miles per hour/average speed limit when all of a sudden my car acceleration went limp and the car engine stalled. the accelerator pedal no longer worked and a little orange wrench flashed in the digital dash. there was no warning. i put on my hazards. shut off the ar, then restarted and it was fine. this happened two more times. ford dealership can't find anything wrong with the vehicle and can't "recreate" the problem. i looked online and there are consumer complaints all over user group websites complaining of this problem but when i call ford customer care they say that "no one has ever filed this complaint with them". call ford. blow up their hotlines and if you are having this problem get the word out to them and everyone else including consumer affairs, bbb and more. someone is going to get killed. it's so dangerous and clearly a manufacture defect that they will not acknowledge because they don't' know what it is. *tr

Driving at highway speed, engine shutdown and vehicle had immediate loss of power. no visible alert for surrounding traffic to avoid collision. engine did not turn off, but acceleration was not possible. i turned the car completely off, waited a few minutes, restarted, and was able to proceed at normal speed onto the interstate before it occurred again. dealership thought they had it fixed on monday. they said it was a computer communication issue and they reset it. their test driver had to be towed back to the shop. next day, they repeated yesterday's fix, told me to pick it up. i had a friend drive it, while i followed. we made it 5 miles before it shut down on the interstate during rush hour traffic. i used my truck to block traffic so we could make it to the median. dealership had it towed back. one week later, the dealer says it's the throttle body, but are not confident it is safe to release, and are not positive that's the problem. i have read many blogs on ford's computer or fuel related issues that appear similar, yet with slightly different diagnosis. my concern is safety. i am looking for a safe vehicle i can trade with confidence that it will not cause the next owner to crash. *tr

This is the 3rd time in the past 3 months that my ford edge has stalled. the first two times were on the highway going 55mph. this time was in my neighborhood going 35mph. car just sporadically goes "limp" and loses all acceleration, with wrench light coming on. have been able to coast to side of road each time. ford refuses to fix. they keep saying they can't duplicate the problem. i'm going to get killed in this car if something isn't done about it. apparently i'm not the only consumer with this issue. *tr

My wife was driving home from work on the freeway when all of a sudden her vehicle went "limp". while the vehicle was in "limp' mode there was no acceleration and you can feel huge vibrations as if the engine was about to die. she was forced to maneuver her way through three lanes of traffic with her hazards on in order to get to a "safe" spot. the only way she was able to get out of the situation was to turn off the vehicle and restart it. the on board computer had a wrench light up and a message asking to look in our manual. per our manual this is a powertrain issue. this has happened two more times in less than four days and twice our three month old son was with us/her. my wife is currently taking the vehicle to a ford dealership and she just called to inform me that it had happened the third time. this is a dangerous thing and has disaster written all over it! *jb
