Problems with 2011 Ford Edge UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2011 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 63 185 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2011 Ford Edge

While sitting in stop[ and go traffic a warning is issued that the engine is overheating! i turn on the heater while driving and the notice goes off! when i approach the car the rear tailgate door opens and at times i can't lock the doors after parking the car! some times a notice of oil pressure is low while driving!

Driver side strut keeps going out already had it replaced a month ago and driver side window cracked for no reason from down in the door not even where anyone could hit it.

Panoramic vista roof will not close. vehicle was stationary. i have researched the issue and thousands of ford owners are affected.

Back up camera stopped working. message appears saying " camera unavailable please contact dealer" when placed in reverse.

Throttle body issue - vehicle turns on and is able to drive, but wrench symbol appears on dashboard and the car goes limp; unable to accelerate at all. this happens while you are driving! according to ford, it is an issue with the throttle body. cost of fix at local mechanic is $330 for the part and $285+ for labor.

I was driving home from work at approximately 40 mph when an orange wrench popped on my screen and with no warning my car started jerking and sputtering and then quit working and completely decelerated like i had switched my car in neutral. i pressed the gas and nothing happened when i was in the middle of an intersection! i was able to get my car out of the roadway using some of my momentum but i was lucky i was not on an interstate or somewhere else. i was told my throttle body needs replacing. i looked into this issues with the 2011 edge and apparently there was a notice put out on this throttle body in other vehicles for causing the same problem and leading to very dangerous situations, however mine wasn't included even though i had the exact same problem. i take great care of my car - oil changes every 5,000 miles and special maintenance when necessary and it doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it.

The "door ajar" warning is being displayed and despite slamming the door as hard as possible. this warning is a red herring since the problem is really the malfunctioning door lock. when the warning is there, i cannot lock the door. the quotes to fix this are raning from $350 to $500. i cannot use the car if i cannot lock that car. i also do not know : 1. if i happen to get it locked, will it unlock. if it doesn't unlock i will be stranded. and 2) if the door is truly ajar because the lock is faling in some manner, risk of the door opening unexpectedly exists. therefore i have stopped driving my edge. this problem happens when i start the car. the problem has been happening continually for about a week (since about 9/10/2018)

I was driving to work when i heard a loud boom. at first i thought i had blown a tire, but my vehicle was not shaking like i had, i looked in the back seat to make sure my son was ok and that is when i noticed my sun roof had shattered. nothing hit it, it just shattered on its own.

I was driving down the road taking my child to daycare and then going to work like we do every day, when the vehicle stopped accelerating. it didn't die, but it just wouldn't let me accelerate anymore. i had to turn on my hazard lights and get off the road as best as i could seeing as how there was no shoulder for me to pull over on. i put the vehicle in park and restarted it and it drove fine after that. i've looked up many other complaints about this same issue so i'm worried that it will continue happening and we might not be so lucky the next time. of course i just surpassed my 100,000 warranty so there's no telling what it will cost to fix it. surely ford knows this is an issue that thousands of their customers with this same vehicle are having. i'm not sure why they haven't done anything about it yet.

Door ajar light has been coming on. you have to open and close door several times. doors will not lock. i drove my car with light on as i could not get it too go off. my door opened while driving down the highway. i could have been seriously hurt. not to mention it's dangerous that the door doesn't lock upon getting in it, if you were trying to get away from a bad situation. this has been on going problem with my car for over a month.

My engine turned off while i was driving. i was slowing to a stop from 55mph to approx. 20mph to go straight at a red light. the light turned green before i came to a stop. when i pressed the gas to accelerate the engine turned off and all systems in the car did as well including power steering. i had no control of the car as it slowed to almost a stop in the middle of the intersection on a green light. i was luckily to able to coast at approx. 5pmh to the end of the intersection before it completely stopped and the car behind me didn't hit me, they went around. i had to get help pushing it to the side of the road after that to avoid an accident since it stopped in the road. when the engine failed the dash lit up with a picture of the engine and said to check power to engine. there was no warning beforehand. i do all my oil changes and regular maintenance. there was no check engine light or any other indicator that something would have been wrong. after this incident and getting the car home it now has a check engine light and won't run correctly. we changed the battery due to the wording about engine power and that didn't help. what i am most concerned and upset about is after this happened we looked the problem up online and it is has happened to hundreds of other people. if any other problems happened that many times that caused injuries this would be a recall and corrected immediately. but because out of luck i was on a rural 1 stop light road and no cars hit me as my vehicle completely failed on me, it isn't. i've received no notices and bought it used from a dealer. i commute to work every day and i am so thankful this wasn't on a work day on the freeway where it would have caused me to completely stop. or dropping off my kids to school. i am honestly scared to get it 'fixed' and it happen again with no warning. or put my kids in a car that puts us in danger.

My vehicle has an issue where the hud will stay on occasionally after turning off my car and leaving it. this drains my battery, leaving my car completely dead. at one time it was unable to even jump start. this has happened twice, when the vehicle has been shut off. also, any of my controls for radio/volume/cruise control/etc. will often freeze or suddenly jump up or down. this happens randomly, regardless if the vehicle is in motion or not.

2011 ford edge doors will not lock in drive when door adjar light is on - sensor issue with ford vehicles in door - faulty door adjar switch when on will not let you lock doors and will not auto lock when putting in drive

I am having problems with my 2011 ford edge with the safety latch - auto door latch will not engage, keeps opening up when in drive along with the interior door adjar light staying on - this happens in hot weather as well as cold in minnesota - i cannot lock the vehicle, and door lock keeps opening while driving causing a safety hazard

My 2011 ford edge limited turns off if a traffic light last longer than 30 seconds, then i have to quickly put the car in park and restart it. this morning it turned off on me while going 70 mph on a busy highway!! when i got to my office this morning i was shaking so i took to the internet to see if i could find any information about this. i was surprised to find one page after another regarding this same issue! i've read close to 500 similiar complaints so far this morning and many many more left to read by people with the exact same problem! how hasn't ford or your agency not issue a recall. this is criminal and a total disgrace to ford and your agency if you too are hiding something! this will, if it hasn't already, get someone killed!!

As i'm driving down the road my car just decides to turn off, when i had it towed to the dealer they couldn't find a problem. it has happen several times and i've only had the car 3 months :(

The passenger door ajar light comes on even after the door is closed, and the even if the car is turned off and the doors locked it will act like the door comes open and set the alarm off and or turn the interior lights on causing the battery to die. it happens continuously everyday.

The " driver door ajar" light is constantly on even thought the door isn't ajar. because of this, i am unable to lock my doors when the key is in the ignition. this is a huge safety concern .

The door ajar light is constantly on causing the interior lights to stay on after you get out of car and while you are driving. also the car locks will not lock while driving the car and you can't leave the key in the ignition while parked but staying in the car. a bell will just keep ringing until you remove the key.

Door ajar issue. even when all doors shut, slammed shut, closed nicely, shows as driver door ajar. this is also when locking the car and arming the alarm

The door ajar light remains on for the passenger door when door is closed and prevents the door from locking while driving.

The door ajar warning light is always on. creates visability issue at night because interior light on and car wont lock . i see many complaints about this as well

The driver's side door censor stays on not allowing the vehicle doors to lock. it also causes the alarm to constantly go off.the vehicle would be parked.

Door ajar on front passenger door and interior lights and exterior lights staying on and not being able to automatic locking mechanism after you start driving or being able to lock the car when you park said vehicle. was told by dealer ford is notorious for the ford 2011 edge 3.5l v6 electrical-switch & relay door open warning relay was major problem with this vehicle . and it will keep the computer open and will drain the battery quickly causing the vehicle to die on the roadside after over 1500 complaint to ford company they stated not enough complaint .....this is a safety issue if you have children they can open a unlocked door what more proof do you need ford not to recall this issue and fix it !!

Passenger door ajar light remains on at all speeds and stationary. safety of myself and children are in jepardy because my car no longer locks. we will be trading this vehicle in. safety isn't something you risk. extremely upsetting. with alll of the issues posted that ford hasn't sent a recall on this.

Sun roof shattered while driving vehicle

Faulty door ajar switch - replaced door ajar switch in driver door at 39,500 and again 91,000 miles. rear driver side door has produced the same issue and is now consistent for 1 month.

Rear drivers side door latch is malfunctioning. the sensor light in the instrument panel continually says door open and the interior lights stay on while driving. this significantly impacts nighttime visibility and creates unsafe driving conditions.

The door ajar light remains on even when the door is closed. opening and closing the door does nothing and the light remaining on is intermittent, with no rhyme or reason. when the light is illuminated, and the car is in drive, the interior lights remain on for about 60 seconds, then go out. this is especially bothersome when driving at night as it makes it difficult to see. additionally, all doors will not lock while the car is on the road. when parked, with all doors closed, the interior lights will remain on for several minutes - up to 20 that i've witnessed. the car alarm will also be triggered after some time. i have had to replace the battery already once and have spent close to $1000 to have this issue fixed but the dealership has been unable to prevent the door ajar light from staying on.

Door ajar warning light is always on, this keep lights in the vehicle on and will not allow doors in vehicle to be locked while car is moving. ford should fix this problem through a recall.

Driving in middle lane on highway during rush hour and suddenly lost acceleration. thankfully i was able to avoid being rear ended and coast to shoulder of highway. after turning the car on anf off a couple of times, the car responded when i pushed accelerator. i was able to drive a 1/10 of a mile to a lincoln dealer and leave my car there. after googling the issue, i see many people have had this issue with fords, some have been recalled, some have had warranties extended to fix..(even a class action law suit exists!) but, i received no notification from ford that this could be an issue. i also discovered that quite a few people say they were in accidents due to this issue.this is extremely dangerous and i narrowly escaped causing a multi car accident!! ford needs to be forced to fix this issue immediately and to notify all those in danger before someone gets killed!!

The door latch indicator continually shows that the driver's door is ajar at all times. as a result, the interior lights and "door open " lights remain lit when the car is turned off, draining the battery. the door locks do not engage when the vehicle is in motion, a safety issue.

Yesterday, i reported issue with driver side "door ajar" indicator light not turning off. took the car to ford dealer today and was told, upon inspection, that the passenger side "door ajar" switch is also beginning to fail. they wanted over $500 to fix each switch. if both door parts are failing at the same time, this is not a coincidence. i informed them that i researched the issue and found that the nhtsb re-opened investigation into this issue after receiving more than 1500 complaints and they said that they weren't told to issue a recall yet, so the repair is not covered. these parts are obviously defective- why are customers having to pay out of pocket for repairs?? bad enough we suffer the inconvenience of being without cars for repair time. nhtsb needs to step in and force ford to issue a recall. obviously ford will not do it on their own.

Back up camera is only working intermittently and if the camera does work- most of the time the image is upside down. upon researching this issue online i found that many others are experiencing this issue. many suggesting resetting the mytouch system to factory settings to reset camera. i did this- it did not work. brought car to dealer today and was told camera s bad- cost of new camera $790!!! if this is an issue for many people ford should be assisting with repairs and fixing issue.

2011 ford edge door ajar light remains on even when door is shut tightly. this keeps dome lights on in car and kills the battery. had to slam car door 20 times tonight when i arrived home to get light to go out. searched internet and saw that many people are having this issue and that in oct 2016 nhtsa launched investigation into this after of 1500 complaints! called ford service they said there no recall on this, so no customer service assistance. told me to go to dealer and have problem diagnosed. told to keep receipt because if recalled in future you can be reimbursed. how can they ignore some many complaints?? some internet posts about issue claimed their door opened while driving... this is very scary!

The driver door ajar light does not go off when the door is shut. this started as an intermittent problem back in march, 2017 but now happens almost every time. even if it does go off when the door shuts, it now comes back on while driving. when the door ajar light is on, the doors cannot be locked and the interior lights stay illuminated. this happens when exiting the car as well which again does not allow it to be locked and the interior lights stay on draining the battery. i've been told that this is a very well known issue but ford has decided not to do a recall. customers are having to pay for the replacement of the sensors on their own which is anywhere from $450 - $600. while there are no "safety" issues involved with this faulty sensor, it doesn't make sense that ford would not correct this issue after building in all the "safety" features around the locking process and mechanisms.

Rear driver's side door does not show shut on alerts but the door is shut.

Door open signal stays on and doesn't allow interior to turn off. alarm will go off every 2 hours. door ajar signal remains on regardless of car is moving or off in park. interior light stays on after car is off.

The driver side front door will close properly, yet the dashboard displays a door ajar signal and chimes to warn the door is not completely closed. this issue will not allow the automatic door lock mechanism to engage, therefore creating a safety concern when the vehicle is in motion. moreover, when attempting to secure the vehicle with the remote door lock knob, the vehicle will remain unlocked. this issue has been confirmed by countless ford edge owners. this is the second time this happens. it was originally done under warranty when the vehicle had less than 36000 miles. it has 69000 miles now.

Door ajar indicator showing when door is properly closed. draining battery and uninspectable

The apim is bad, no radio, can turn heat/air on but cannot control, doesn't light up paying for siren radio and cannot use it. thought it was something simple, found out different. had back up camera fixed previously and the next thing was this problem.

The door ajar light stays on even when the doors are closed. this then drains battery and leaves driver stranded. it also keeps the interior lights from shutting down because the system thinks the door is ajar. it doesn't matter if the car is running or not this happens.

I bought this car 2015 in the late winter. from the time i bought it the drivers door sensor would say its ajar. according to the dealer it would be about $1000 to fix. tonight my auto door unlock doesn't work and neither does the key unlock the door. i'm stranded 30 miles from home. this is totally unacceptable. i will be letting anyone who asks to be extremely cautious about any ford products.

Rear passenger door ajar sensor - the sensor comes on several times a week even though the rear passenger door is completely closed (no one rides in the back seat so i know it is not being opened manually). this started happening around november 2016. i am not sure if the issue is with the door latch or the sensor itself. when this occurs, the interior lights stay on, which is distracting, especially at night. i am worried that the door may fly open while i am driving. this is a safety hazard. i saw there are tens of thousands of complaints about this issue. it should be recalled so ford can fix it for free.

The latch door ajar sensor is not working properly and cannot recognize when the door is closed. this results in me being unable to lock my door and it leaves the dome lights on until it times out.

Internal water pump went out. no sensor saying its bad. when it occurs the fluid drops in to oil pan, sucks in to engine and destroys the engine in a matter of minutes. vehicle was in motion, engine light turned on and car died in a minute.

The door adjar light stays on constantly has been constant problem since we bought car in 2012. first time was under warranty and local dealership saiid they fixed it. however within weeks of warranty expiring the same problem on same door happened and has been constant since then.

Door ajar lights staying on and will not go off when door is closed! they go on and off while driving down the road. can't lock the doors, alarm will not set, interior lights stay on and run battery down constantly.

The doors always show ajar. the dealer has worked on our car at least 3 times now it's out of warranty and they want to charge us to fix it. the is a safety hazard and it ruins the battery. my daughter drives this car and the light won't go off until you get moving down the road.

The driver side door sensor is bad. the vehicle is unsafe because the sensor remains on all the time even when the door is closed. so if the door is ever open, you would not know because all the sensors are bad so you assume it is just an error message. also - on this vehicle - the brakes feel spongy at times and are not good, even though having the brakes looked at and they have checked as confirmed sound with new rotors and pads.
