Problems with 2008 Ford Edge SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2008 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 93 758 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2008 Ford Edge

When were driving the car it loses power(the traction control just comes on for no reason) , when we go above 70 our abs light comes on, our brakes randomly just start grinding then they will stop, we have replaced the breaks last month.

While driving with my 6 month old son in the car, i couldn't stop using my brakes! i almost crashed!! i looked up the symptoms online and everyone is complaining about this issue. it seems the brake booster fails and the brakes do not work!!! the other issue i have seen, hundreds of people complaining about rear tail lights blowing out and when changing out the bulbs, the bulb sockets are burnt and melted! mine are the same, burnt up and melted. it is a fire hazard waiting to happen!!

Partial loss of brakes stopping the vehicle while in motion. hissing noise occurred when applying the brakes. possibly caused by faulty master cylinder or boost system. * recall was issued for this problem for 2010-2013 ford edge vehicles.

Whistling noise when brake pedal depressed and sometimes brake pedal is hard to depress making stops seem likely unstoppable also rear brakes make terrible noise when backing pads and rotors are okay.

Brakes on my 2008 ford edge are making a hissing noise when depressed and do not stop the car unless i press the brakes all the way to the floor and even with that, the car does not stop completely, especially at high rates of speed. took it to a mechanic to get new brake pads applied and was told it was the brake booster. i looked up a recall for the brake booster on this site only to find many complaints with the same problem but no recall.

Right wheel well vibrates when i turn and drive over50 miles hour transmission jerks like its not engaging to next gear from a stop or when driving under mph back left brake light burns out every other day . brakes are sqeeling and sound like metal scraping but no indicator has come on for the abs to to be replace must module not working correctly cause mot coding anything with tranny jerking either ford edge is peice of (xxxx) i never by american again

My turn signal bulb socket fries repeatedly. this will be the fourth time in 2 years replacing it. it burns up the socket and melts the bottom of the light bulb. i got the parts from ford dealership also but i have read online any people having issues with it. it just goes out all of a sudden.

I was driving 35 mph when i applied the brakes as i normally do the car kept moving so i had to apply lot of pressure to the brake pedal to stop the car. i heard a unusual noise. i had two diagnostic done and informed that it was the brake booster but was not cover under the factory recall because it's a 2008 model edge what a ripoff! the same manufacture defective issue in the 2010 is covered. go figure!. if i had been driving faster i would have been unable to stop to avoid a accident.

Yesterday, the vehicle did not stop when it was supposed to stop. i depressed the brakes, but needed to apply excessive force and they made a hissing sound. the vehicle slowly coasted to a stop. it was a terrifying incident, especially since i have a 5 year old son. the ford dealership confirmed that the brake booster had failed. i see that this is a recall on the 2010 and newer edge, which uses the same part. i feel that this should also be a recall in the earlier models, as it is a huge safety issue. the vehicle is currently in the shop awaiting repair, which will cost me in excess of $500. i am not pleased.

I have a ford edge 2008. starting from 08/28/2017, the brake makes "hassing" sound when it is pressed down. it is as hard as a rock at the beginning and soft as a sponge later. it's function is compromised. when it happened yesterday, it caused couple of very dangerous situation. i almost hit two cars in front and over run a traffic light because the car cannot fully stop fully. i drove this car to the dealer this morning. it was brake booster problem according to the tech service. he drove the car and felt extremely dangerous to drive the car because of the compromised brake function. however due to his tight schedule, he cannot fit my car into his repair service. ford issue a recall 13n02 in 2016 for brake booster problem. however it only covers cars 2010-2013. there are plenty of complaints online regarding the same problem for cars made in other years. it is a systematic problem that relates to the design other than manufacturing process related to batches. a systematic recall should be done before any customer gets into a fatal situation.

While driving my car brakes on the city frontage road, noticed they became spongy and then a loss of brake functioning.. i would press on the brake pedal all the way to the floor and it would not respond. would have to slow down about 1/3 block while applying brakes to get it to stop at intersections. drove it to a brake shop and was told i needed to replace the power booster and brake master cylinder. was told car by the mechanic that the car was unsafe to drive and i decided to call a tow truck to return the car home safely.

My brakes make a hissing noise when i press down.. i have to press all the way down to get it to stop. this is very dangerous.also, my back tail lite has had to be replaced 2 times because the socket got hot. also, my car jumps sometimes when pressing on the gas(transmission issue?) i have also had the gas tank replaced(due to a recall)

No warning indicator given. the breaks decide to stop working. hissing sound when break is applied. i had to mash on the peddle to stop. luckily i was traveling at a slow speed. i have 2 children ages 1 and 2 in the car with me. this is an absolute hazard and needs to be corrected by ford.

65,000 miles on car. when i press on brake pedal, there is a whistle sound. took car in to private mechanic for diagnostic. he tells me it is a "vacuum leak." will ford cover this?

Needed to replaced brake booster on vehicle with 84,000 miles. brakes had to be tromped on in order to stop, very dangerous. all else was ok with the brakes. all repairs shops said this should have been under warranty for under 100,000 miles and less than 10 years old. cost to repair was over $650.00. please look into this dangerous situation.-also, still waiting for notification for airbag recall.

2008 ford edge at 111k miles, brake power booster needs to be replaced - cost estimate is $650. symptoms were brake hissing sound and felt spongy depressing brake. same exact symptoms as bulletin 13n02, where warranty extended to 150,000 miles for years 2010 - 2015. when i called, ford said my vin/year was not covered - for same exact issue. car is at dealership and cost is $650. hope by registering complaint - this gets addressed as it should. here are all the similar complaints for the 2008 edge - http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/searchresults;jsessionid=vjwdxp0bx8b1lb0k0jxzvtndygghmkttyjcqynqzqvqqbmhqh1gz!619774783?prodtype=v&searchtype=prod&targetcategory=a&searchcriteria.model=edge&stats=325630%2c3%2c2%2c445%2c14%2cedge&makestats=&jsonbaseurl=%2fdownloads%2ffolders%2f&searchcriteria.model_yr=2008&searchcriteria.make=ford&searchcriteria.prod_ids=325630

First i was driving when my breaks started to feel like they were locking up. come to find out it was the power break booster which cost me $504.00. then 2 weeks later my car starts to do a putting feeling and come to find out 2 of the coils burnt up the power control module costing me $1058.00. a few months before this it was in the ford dealership because of a leak on the fuel pump. costing me $216. i am furious i have had to spend this in the last month. i just seen on the news that ford has a recall on the power control module but it was not my year. i am simply asking if someone would please look into this so maybe i can get some of this money back to pay off the debt it caused me.

Recall 13n02 covers the brake booster in 2010-2015 ford edge. my 2008 edge has the exact same issue as diagnosed by a ford dealership. it is the exact same issue with the exact same component. the replacement part for either is the exact same, as i verified with numerous suppliers. the recall needs to be expanded to cover more years, as my wife now drives an unsafe vehicle. ford redesigned the edge for the 2010 model year but used the exact same, now recalled component. braking is difficult at all speeds, much harder than the days before power brakes.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but required excessive force to stop the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000. the vin was not available.

Brakes began to "hiss" and then over a 3 month period became ineffective at stopping the vehicle. i researched the issue and there is a recall on the same year and model of my car but my vin was not included.

When traveling on highway with cruise control engaged, a need for rapid braking resulted in a momentary "hard" brake pedal before disengaging cruise control. when stopped at traffic signal with foot on brake, pedal gradually sinks towards floorboard and feels soft and "mushy" attempt at braking while driving along at steady speed (50mph), the brake pedal was hard and resistant resulting in delayed braking action. potential for accident.

Brake pedal became "mooshy" and when depressed would make a hissing sound. the vehicle took extra time/length to stop. took to dealer and brake booster needed to be replaced. search online and found similar problem and actual recall and extended warranty by ford for later model years of this vehicle with the same problem.

9/11/2015 my abs light started going on and off a few days ago so i checked the brake fluid and it was empty. i filled it up last night and the light still came back on this morning. as i was approaching an intersection this morning, my brakes temporarily went out as i tried to stop. i was able to stop in time though because i was not going very fast. they went back to working after that. now i am afraid to drive it even to take it to get serviced. i did check the fluid and it is still full.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving at 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to apply force on the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

When breaking the break pedal was very difficult to push and slow in reacting. this nearly caused an accident on the first incident in a standard braking situation. after that the breaks seemed to be back to normal. this has happened a couple more times and the car is really not safe to drive. if emergency braking was needed there would be no way to stop in time and was very near to causing multiple accidents in normal driving. we have been told it is the brake booster that is the problem. this is a problem that ford is aware of and has offered to fix this issue on newer models. this is a major safety issue that needs to addressed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford edge. while driving in a residential area at 35 mph, the brakes failed and made an abnormal grinding noise when applied. the contact had to pump the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,215.

As i was driving to work last friday, june 5th, i stepped on my breaks and they did not respond. i re-pumped and was lucky enough to avoid a collision. i took the car to five star ford in plano tx where they have looked it and advised that the break booster is not working as it should and needs to be replaced. they quoted me $618.25 to do this work. i decided to review the recall information as i remember seeing something about this part. sure enough ford has recalled the 2012 - 2014 ford edge models for the break booster - the same issue impacting my model. i am writing to make you aware of this safety issue

I have been finding it more and more difficult to use the brakes on my 2008 ford edge. i slammed on the brakes as the result of a change in the traffic and my brakes did not react and brake pedal was very stiff and barely moved toward the floor. i feel fortunate that there was no accident or injury, but my mechanic tells me i need a new brake booster and possibly a master cylinder as a result of this faulty part. much research indicates that this is a problem with many ford edges starting in 2008 but recalls only exist for later years 2010- 2013. repairs will be costly and will take time from my job. if this is such a problem, i do not understand why there is not a recall on it. i am disappointed that i will need to spend $600-1000 to replace faulty equipment that others have had issue with and has caused more recent editions to require a recall.

While stopped driver pressed hard on brake pedal causing a loud whistling sound from the engine compartment. brought vehicle to dealer, where it was determined to be the brake booster. dealer indicated there was a customer satisfaction program issued by ford. as it turned out the csp only covered 2010 - 2013 edges. dealer indicated if part failed braking would be compromised. no assistance from ford and a $550 bill to repair. research of others with 2008 ford edge and brake booster problems revealed numerous others with this known problem. ford shame on you, this could have been a catastrophic problem.

I was driving to the mall and all of a sudden i could barely press on the brakes. it was extremely difficult to press the brake pedal. i heard hissing sounds like air releasing. i took it to a mechanic and he said the brake booster was going out and this is a world wide problem with ford edges. i have yet to have it fixed as the part is extremely expensive.

Without warning, brakes failed. thankfully was traveling slowly as parking the car. there was a hissing sound and brake pedal went all the way to the floor. we were lucky. could have been a disaster. car is at private mechanic. told master cylinder and brake booster bad. why wouldn't we have had a warning prior to such a potentially disastrous failure. why wouldn't the brake warning light have activated. *tr

My brakes started off feeling very stiff, then would sink into floor while making a hissing sound. often barely stopping. when stopped with my foot on the brake the engine will start sputtering like it is going to shut off, when i let off the brake it will run fine. there were no warning or indications that there was a problem and i have nearly wrecked multiple times. i contacted the local ford service department and was informed that they have fixed this same problem in several of the ford edge suvs and that it would cost between $600 and $700 to repair. if so many people are having the same issue why has ford not put out a recall on this? *tr
