Will be driving along at any speed and car will not accelerate, it does not stall but wrench light comes on and you can't do anything until you shut off the car and restart it. this has happened numerous times and hasn't caused an accident yet, but most certainly will eventually. this problem is well known, but is phrased as stalling when it truly doesn't stall, accelerator just doesn't work and car slows down quickly in traffic. *tr
Gas tank is rusting out on top of tank and on seam. contacted ford and was told to replace tank at a cost of 2800.00 dollars just for tank. i think this is a safety issue because exhaust is right below the tank. how can a vehicle that is 7 years old be rusting out a gas tank. i think ford has known about this problem because i can't even locate a used tank to replace it with. how can they justify a new tank at 2800.00. they should have recalled to replace these tanks, 07,08,09 and some 2010 ford edges are affected with this problem and not just a couple but practically everyone sold! i really like my edge but if they won't stand behind their vehicle over a safety issue this will be the last ford i own. thanks! *tr
I put a set tires on my vehicle last week and was told my gas tank was leaking. i took it to a ford dealership to get estimate on repair. they also stated the tank was leaking. the entire tank would need to be replaced to the tune of $2,200.00 roughly. the ironic thing here the fuel tank is on a national backorder and have no idea when this problem can be fixed!!!! there should be a recall, somebody needs to wake up here!!!! are we going to wait for an accident here where someone is killed before ford fixes this problem!!!! *tr
Leaking fuel tank. advised by technician not to park inside enclosed garage due to fire hazard. ford motor company is aware of leaking fuel tanks on these model vehicles and is not assisting owners in repairs or replacement. replacement cost $2,018 and tanks are on back order. ford allowing hazardous conditions for vehicle owners. *tr
I have an 2007 ford edge, filled the tank, the next day smelled a fuel odor, 1 week later seen that there is a gas leak. took the car to a mechanic, stated the seams on the passenger side of the tank are rusted. have not contacted maunfacture & not repaired. there are alot of gas tank complaints, not too sure why this year has not been recalled. this is a fire risk. a 7 year old car should not have a fuel tank issue. *tr
I began to smell a strong gas smell, then i saw drops of gas on my driveway. i took the vehicle to my dealership. they informed me the fuel tank was rusted with a hole, thus the leak. the repair was very costly, i asked them to pursue a used fuel tank. after researching extensively, the dealer and i found that all of the used fuel tanks also have holes and are rusted. the dealer went forward with requesting a new fuel tank, only to find that ford has them on backorder with an eta of never. the dealership rep called ford to find they are no longer making the fuel tank, there is no supplier for the fuel tank. i am left with a car that cannot be repaired properly. the ford relationship center has been no help. this is a serious safety issue. ford has turned a blind eye. consumers need to know about this potentially deadly defect. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact smelled fuel. the contact also stated that the fuel tank was fractured. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 116,000.
My 2007 ford edge suv has the same fuel tank leak issue as ford recall number 14s22 but is not part of the recall. i do not know where it was originally sold but it is registered in tennessee. my concern is the same as listed in the recall, "a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire." *tr
Fuel tank leaking. noticed a strong fuel odor when i filled the tank. did some research and there are over a hundred complaints about this. leak is coming from the top seal or seam. there must be a problem because ford has a back order on the tank when i tried to get it fixed they did not know when they could get one in.i do think a recall is in order. *tr
I am the owner of a 2007 ford edge se. we recently smelled gas coming from the driver's side of the vehicle. the car was taken to a ford dealership to have the problem diagnosed. the ford dealership explained that there was a hole in the gas tank due to corrosion and would need a new gas tank and fuel pump that would cost approximately $1,800 to $2,500 to fix. the dealership refused to complete the work without payment since no recall has been given for the 2007 edge. we were left with the options of paying for a new gas tank and fuel pump or calling ford to complain. another mechanic explained to us that the gas tank is a design default by ford and no damage was done to the tank by us. *tr
Smelled gas in garage. checked leaking. pulled out on drive . saw leaking again. took to mechanic and he verified the seam on the tank had a leak. told not to set in garage or drive until fixed. dangerous. *tr
My gas tank has started leaking. my mechanic has told me it will probably take 2 months before a replacement tank will be available. *tr
I detected a faint odor of gasoline. a week later after vehicle was sitting in the driveway overnight there was an overwhelming odor of gas around the vehicle. our mechanic found a leaking fuel tank, rusted at the seam, dripping on to the exhaust. vehicle is not drivable. as of this time the local ford dealer cannot even give an estimate when a replacement tank might be available and used tanks are apparently difficult to find. *tr
I noticed a smell of gas for two days after completely filling my gas tank the last time. it lasted for 3 days before i decided to take it in to have it looked at. i was then told i have two holes in the top of my gas tank and it would be around $1800 to be replaced. although, that isn't an option at the moment because the replacement tanks are on back order since this issue is occurring so frequently and they have no specific date of when one will be available. now i am nervous to drive my car due to concern of fire, but am faced with the uncertainty of how long i will be waiting until a gas tank becomes available. *tr
I recently purchased a 2007 ford edge sel awd. i have had no problems with the vehicle until this past thursday (09/11/2014) when i put $40.00 worth of gas in it when it was close to empty. after putting in $40.00 worth of gas, it gave me a approximately 3/4 tank of gas. i then parked it at my place of work (no incline of any sort) and started to smell gas. the tank is leaking on the passenger side underneath. after work, i drove home (maybe 10 miles) and have not even moved the vehicle until today (09/13/2014) and only have 1/4 tank of gas left. not only is it leaking gas but the inside of the vehicle wreaks. i have a 2 month old child who i am afraid to take in the vehicle now because the smell is so strong. this issue needs to be resolved as i am not the only person who has complained about this situation. i see that 2008 ford edge models have been recalled due to the same problem. i refuse to spend close to $2000.00 to fix the problem. thank you. *tr
I was smelling fuel everytime i walked around my car. i had my boyfriend look at it and he said that the seals on the fuel tank are corroded and that i would need a new fuel tank. after calling ford, which chooses not to do anything about this, it is going to cost close to $2,700 to have it replaced. i drive my children around in this vehicle. ford refuses to list this as a recall. why??? most people who drive this type of car, has a family or children. it is very scary to think that my car could possibly catch on fire, or worse. *tr
For several days prior to and after filling the gas tank, there was a strong smell of gasoline while driving, while parked in garage and while parked in lot. dealership noted that the gas tank had completely rusted and was leaking at the seam. (although i do live in a northern state, the vehicle has been garaged during winter, washed appropriately, well taken care of and routine maintenance). the dealership customer service and ford customer service were extremely poor. ford customer service stated that there is no recall, therefore they will not stand behind their product- this will not be the first review that you will read about this exact same issue. after doing more research, the 2007-2009 models have the same fuel tank and the 2008 model has been recalled for this issue. a 7 year old car should not have to have the gas tank replaced, especially when this is noted at the seam. this manufacturer defect is a safety liability that ford does not want to claim and refuses to put the safety of it's customers above the financial burden this would cause them. the fumes alone are toxic and if there was any type of spark on the roadway, this could result in a fire, accidents and death. it's sad that an american company has such poor customer service and poor safety standards. this will be the last ford vehicle that i will own. *tr
I notice a strong gas smell. the mechanic told me the seam of the tank is leaking. i have owned multiple (over 20) fords though out the years and i have never had a tank rust out in 7 years. the repair cost is outrageous if you can find a tank (right now i can not find a tank for under $2000). it looks like i am not the only person having this problem. this should be a recall item. *tr
Gas tank is leaking from the top onto the passengers side of the vehicle when tank is near full. noticed leak about a week ago. *tr
Started smelling gasoline every time my car was in the garage. seemed to happen right after i filled up. researched internet for "2007 ford edge fuel smell" and found several complaints and what looks like a very expensive repair (oem fuel tank averages $1700 plus labor). took car to dealer and found out the fuel tank was defective and needed replacement. was told by the dealer that it was not safe to drive. requesting a recall before someone gets killed. *tr
Heavy gas fumes permeating garage, house and car. found that gas tank is severely rusted, or "rotted" as the dealer said, in several places. $2100 to fix. car is only 7 years old! not even due for a tune up yet. there are over 200 complaints on your site of other customers with same issue. ford says they can do nothing but "document it." does someone have to be driving on a super-highway and have the tank fall off the car and get killed or have their house explode before ford does something about it?! please advise. thank you. *tr
Wife filled her 2007 ford edge with gas for a trip we were taking the following day brought vehicle home smell strong odor of gasoline noticed gas tank is leaking come to find out this is happening to a lot of the same vehicles and ford refuses to recall and fix definite problem with these gas tanks consumers should not have to pay for replacement
Strong fuel smell coming from rear of vehicle. fuel is leaking slightly at seam and has strong vapor smells. hasn't been overfilled. i can not park the vehicle in the garage anymore due to the danger of the vapors. this needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt or killed. to many people have already complained on this issue, so why has a recall not been issued? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank due to rust. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and the technician stated that the rust was due to corrosion of the fuel tank. the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

Suddenly smelled gas when parked in my garage. took it to my mechanic who said the top of the gas tank is corroded and the whole tank needs to be replaced. i now see on forums that there are many complaints on this car, same year, same problem and that ford denies it being a defect. no car should have corrosion on the gas tank after just 7 years!! ford needs to stand behind their product and offer replacement tanks for this very dangerous defect. i would like to know how to move forward to fight ford for reimbursement of this hefty repair expense. *tr
Smelling gas fumes. looked underneath and gas was leaking from fuel tank. *tr
Fuel tank leaking gas laying in shield pan under car and then over flowing onto garage floor took it to dealership and had to have the whole tank replaced !! only 62000 miles on car and 7 years old garage kept this shouldn't have happened very expensive to replace the tank!!!! *tr
Weve owned this vehicle for approximately 2 years. the other day we noticed a strong smell of gasoline around the car. upon checking we noticed the fuel tank leaking from around a seem. when i started checking around for a replacement tank i noticed a recall on 2008 ford edge. my car was built in august of 07. they described the same problem caused by contamination near a dimple at a seem. the same tank is on the 07, 08 and 09 edge. when i checked with ford they said my car wasn't under recall. i believe it should be because of the same tanks on the 07, 08 and 09 models plus its a safety hazzard as i cannot drive the car and the cost to fix it is over $2,000.00. ford should be made to recall all models from 07 on and correct this problem at no cost to the consumer before someone gets killed. i believe ford knows about this and is intentionally not recalling these models because of the cost involved. i have owned vehicles all my life (i'm 62) and have never had a bad gas tank on any other vehicle i've owned. this is a defect that is a safety hazzard to the public and needs to be corrected! *js
Very strong smell of gas/fuel. has it taken to body shop 2 times to check for a fuel leak in lines, nothing found. continued to smell gas, causing severe headaches in myself, my 6 year old and my 3 year old. several trips to er and urgent care for headaches, no cause found after many xrays and mri scans. recall notice received 12/14 for fuel tank defect. vehicle impounded at local dealer until unspecified time to be fixed. estimated time to fix 8/15. ford has made no attempt to replace or refund the vehicle with safety recall after several attempts at the dealer and through fmc website to no avail. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact noticed corrosion around the rear driver side wheel well of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank corroded and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v682000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 90,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that strong fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle without warning. there was also a leak under the vehicle near the front end. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the seal failed on the fuel tank and that the seal and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v682000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
I woke up to my house smelling of gas, after taking it to a shop, i was told there was a crack in the top of the tank. it took 3 days to get it back, when i picked it up, i was told to fill it up with gas, then it was leaking gas real bad, steady drip. i took it right back to the shop where they kept over the weekend, said it was rusted very bad, it has a couple rust spots that gave way when i put gas in it. said it needs a new tank, and for such a new car, it should not be this bad. *tr

Strong gas smell when fuel tank is filled above 3/4 mark. mechanic investigation indicates that the fuel tank has holes on the top side of the tank, and says that the tank needs to be replaced before it begins to leak. i was quoted $1540 for parts, and $505 labor ($2045) to replace the tank. this is outrageous. why does the fuel tank on a 6 year old vehicle deteriorate on the top? *tr
The smell of gasoline prompted me to bring my ford edge to the ford dealership. i was informed that the fuel tank rusted out and needed to be replaced. i questioned this as i have owned ford vehicles for ten plus years apiece and never had the problem. i was told it was not abnormal. after searching online i have found this to be a frequent occurrence in the ford edge vehicle. now, i was told by the dealer that it was unsafe to drive this car home due to a fire hazard and had to rent a vehicle right then and there. from the number of online complaints i have read, i believe the ford edge needs to be deemed unsafe due to the fuel tank leaking problem. ford needs to own up to the fact that they are putting their customers' lives in danger by not recalling and correcting the fuel tanks in these vehicles which are obviously defective. not only that, but the environmental consequences of leaking fuel is a danger to everyone. it is necessary to also mention that my vehicle was sold to me as certified pre owned only 3 years ago with the mileage at 32,579. how are they precertifying ? with cover ups???? so, in essence the fact that they precertified 3 years ago means this problem either occurred within 3 years or the precertification was bogus, either of which is unacceptable. also, their warranty which comes with the precert states feb. 2013 or 100,00 miles. they will not honor the 100,00 miles as they say it is only if the 100,00 miles occurs before the expiration date. if that were truly the case, the wording should say "which ever comes first." check out the ford manual to verify this info. they are misleading and deceptive in their warranty definition as well as their vehicles. i have always owned a ford - never had a fuel tank problem, loved the vehicles, but will never purchase another one. they are shady at best. *tr
After continually smelling gas while my vehicle was parked in the garage i discovered a gas leak in the fuel tank. i took the vehicle to a private mechanic and he verified the fuel tank was leaking due to rusting of the tank. the mechanic informed me of the price of a new tank and it is very expensive. a person at my local ford dealer informed me that he had the same problem with his edge. also, i found a used fuel tank in search for a replacement, and found it has the same rusting problems. my wife and children use this vehicle every day and i feel like this could have been a huge saftey problem. if you are reading this and have the same problem please make a complaint. ford should be responsible for the repair of this costly and dangerous problem. *tr
Started smelling gas sometime in august or september. took it to get inspected recently and technician smelled gas and check it out. fuel tank is leaking. seems to be some type of corrosion on the top. potentially very dangerous. going to cost nearly $2000 to replace tank. several complaints about this same issue on the web. should consider a recall. *tr
Fuel tank has a hole right above the half way mark. fumes are so strong - it gives me headaches and leaks all over the ground. *tr
