Headlamps occasional failed to turn on or would go off periodically at first. a month later the problem had become the norm rather than the exception. when the headlamps went out i had to drive with my hand engaging the high beam in order to have driving lights. flicking the hi/lo beam wand would not turn the lights back on. interior dash lights worked normally. it got to the point in a 5 mile trip, at night, my driving lights were off more than they were on without me having to engage the high beam lamps for driving. extremely congested areas that i drive in so the engaging the high beams all the time caused a safety hazard not only for on coming drivers but for me as well. it is extremely hard to drive a full size car like mine while keeping the high beams engaged. the integrated control module (icm) had to be replaced to fix the problem. this is hard to believe given the fact that my car had less than 42,000 miles on it at the time. the car had not been involved in any damage causing wrecks. from all the forums that there are online, does not appear to be an isolated occurrence. *tr

My headlights will just go out. the parking light and rear light stay on. the headlight will go out and some times for the whole ride. then sometime they will stay on for the ride. when the lights go out you have to use the passing high beams. i called the dealer and told him over the phone what was happening and he told me what the problem was without even looking at the car. he stated he knew what it was because it happens all the. i feel this is a safety issue that should be addressed. i was told it would cost $342.00 to fix. *tr

Headlights turned off while driving at night. refer to the following: nhtsa action number: n/a nhtsa recall campaign number: pe08066 n/a make: ford model: crown victoria manufacturer : ford motor company year : 2005 component : exterior lighting:headlights ford found that some lighting control modules (lcm) in the subject vehicles contained defective solder joints on the printed circuit board. this condition can lead to poor headlight performance ranging from intermittent outage and dimming to eventual headlights failure. the failure does not affect other lighting functions (park, emergency flasher, brake and flash to pass lights).
Occasionally the headlights go out while driving. they will come back on after a while but there is no rhyme or reason as to when they will go off or come back on. so far it has happened to me about once a week. it is hard to check what is causing the problem but investigation has shown that numerous cars have been fixed by replacing the lighting control module. however it is quite expensive and ford refuses to recognize the severity of the problem. the running lights stay on but the headlights go out. i almost hit a parked car at forty m.p.h. *tr

I recently began having headlight trouble when my headlights started to shut off while i was driving. i own a 2005 ford crown victoria i still had my dash lights and tail lights working. apparently it is some sort of design flaw in the lcm and it only applies to the low beams and constant on high beam function. the flash to pass function will still work though when it was malfunctioning. it seems to be on the lcm or lighting control module. *tr

Re: rear brake lights with light to moderate braking when starting to push brake pedal the rear lights come on. when you reach a point that you ease up on the pedal pressure, (even so slight that you don't feel the pedal move), the brake lights go off. the vehicle is actually still braking. if you proceed to apply pressure again the brake lights come back on and once again as soon as you ease up on pedal pressure the lights go off. i found myself sitting at stop signs, red lights, even in the middle of the road waiting to turn left with my foot on the brake, but no rear brake lights on. a new brake light switch was installed with no change. i checked a one year newer vehicle, same make and model, and it was doing the same thing. i called a local ford dealer and he never heard of the problem. he checked with one of their similar vehicles on the lot and discovered the same problem. he called a factory rep who knew nothing of the problem. that's all the further it went.*jb
