I receive an important safety recall # n62 / nhtsa 13v-528 from chrysler corp. for the dodge truck listed above. this recall was sent to me last november of 2013. i had the vehicle inspected by tuttle dodge in tustin, ca. this is the dealer where i bought the truck in 2055. they confirmed that this vehicle need the safety repair and said that chrysler would inform mw when the parts arrive at their dealership so they can make the safety repairs. i have check with tuttle dodge every month since and was told that no parts were available. this repair is to the left tie rod, and if it breaks the driver would have no steering. this would result in 10,000 pound truck running completely out of control with understandable disastrous results. i want some help getting this vehicle repaired to a safe condition. please let me know what you can do. At 50 mph if the truck hits a bump on the road, it goes to a violent shake until the truck is slowed to 30mph. very scary as the truck got thrown into the other lane. this has been happening for a year now. the dealer can't seem to fix the issue. i already spend $2500 and now it seems i need to spend another $1500. *tr

At speeds above 45mph the vehicle violently wobbles and renders the steering almost uncontrollable. this is commonly referred to as the "death wobble". i understand this problem has been addressed with this "buy back" program but it is only for 2008 and newer model years. i'm not looking to have my vehicle bought back but i do want this problem corrected. i have been to the dealer as well as numerous repair shops to have this corrected and after thousands of dollars spent and multiple parts replaced the problem still persists . updated 12/18/15*lj *cn

After driving over an abrupt bridge abutment, the vehicle's front end began an oscillation or death wobble until the speed was reduced below 45mph. this was experienced 2 other times similar set up with road irregularity at 60 mph. tie rods and ball joints replaced in front end, thrust angle aligned, problem remains. *tr

While traveling between colorado and new mexico along interstate 25 at raton pass, we hit a bump at about 50-60 miles an hour and the vehicle went into a violent uncontrollable shake. steering could not be controlled, i just applied brakes until we came to a stop. i am going to take into a dodge service dept., but i've already been told by others traveling behind us that this is a fairly common occurrence and dodge refuses to acknowledge front end design issues. i hope this isn't true. this is a very serious issue that could easily end up with casualties or serious injuries. this issue occurred with no warning, and in an instant the vehicle goes wildly out of control. after coming to stop the vehicle shows no signs of problems and drives normally. *tr

At approx. 45k mi vehicle developed severe "wobble" in front steering. contacted dealer who disavowed any knowledge of occurances on other trucks. contacted chrysler who directed me back to dealership. took to dealership who tried to sell repair at $3400.00 found many similar complaints on-line and suggested repair was to replace with "steering upgrade kit" marketed through dodge dealer at over $800.00. had installed at my cost and now chrysler is saying my vehicle is not part of recall and to take back to dealership for inspection of replaced parts that are now individually being recalled.

Traveling on us93 out of kingman, az. hit a patch of rough freeway and truck went into an uncontrollably death wobble. i was pulling a 12 foot haulmark motorcycle trailer when this occurred. it was a miracle we didn't crash. got it slowed down and off the road everything appeared o.k. proceeded cautiously and now it was pulling hard to the right like something was out of line. after driving for appx 25 miles, whatever was causing it to pull to right corrected itself. over the next 1500 miles this has occurred on three more occasions once with trailer and twice without trailer. have new shocks and tires ordered. have and appt with dodge to have it checked out but have little faith in them. *tr

I was driving down a side street and my right tie rod drop off losing control we went into on coming traffic, and crashed into the curb, luckily missing oncoming cars. had the vehicle towed to perfection tire and 3 days later they not only replace the right tie rod but also the left tie rod, upper ball joints, lower ball joints, and replacing the right tire from accident. costing me $1,911.33. a few weeks later, i get a letter from chrysler stating a problem with the left tie rod and if you have already experienced this condition and have paid to have it repaired, to send your original receipts to chrysler customer assistance. i did do this and they said this doesn't apply. we were suppose to tow our 5th wheel that day and go on our anniversary vacation. thank god we were not on a freeway going 65 mph. i don't think we would have survived this trip, and possibly taking out a few others folks too. makes me feel very uncomfortable knowing someone else out there may have the same issue. *tr

Steering box sector shaft broke off steering box, when vehicle was towed to dealership they notified me an upgraded steering system was already designed and i needed to pay for its installation, which i did. sector shaft broken while driving out of a parking lot. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering assist failed and the brakes would not respond effectively. the vehicle traveled into a walkway and independently decelerated to a stop. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not able to be restarted and was towed to the dealer, who replaced the steering linkage and damper pitman arm. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign id number 13v528000(steering). the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 123,896.

Any time i would hit uneven pavement (bridge approach, pothole, dip in road, edge of shoulder) my truck would go into a violent and uncontrollable shaking. this occurred on a regular basis. each time, i would not be able to regain control until the speed of the vehicle slowed to approx. 15 or 20 mph. if on a straight stretch of road, it would hold straight until i regained control. if in a curve, the truck would either cross over or run off the road. when describing the symptoms to multiple dodge dealers, they referred to the issue as the "dodge death wobble". i have received two notices from dodge/chrysler regarding recalls. on the first recall, upon inspection, i was told that my truck did not qualify. by the time the second recall was released, i had already replaced all of my steering linkage to a new chrysler/mopar design. this upgrade was completed because dodge no longer offered parts for the 2003-2008 models and the only factory support parts option was to put 2009 steering linkage on an older truck. per the recall notice, i submitted my service records and charges to chrysler for reimbursement. my total cost to replace my steering linkage was approximately $715. the upgraded steering linkage has prevented loss of control from occurring again. i was contacted by phone and advised that my vehicle was not repaired with mopar parts and i needed to submit additional service records. when i challenged this feedback and asked to speak with a member of management, i was placed on hold when the representative then returned to advise that my truck did not qualify for the recall because it was not originally built with the defective parts. i again asked to speak with a member of management and was told i could not do so. i was told that i would be placed on a request list and should expect to hear back from someone within 24 hours. *tr

My steering box broke right at the shaft and almost killed my family and good friend. *tr

Having experienced the "dodge death wobble" several times, i am already cautious when driving at highway speeds. i was crossing a bridge and hit the expansion joint on the exit side. the truck veers hard left and i cross the middle lines and am halfway into the other lane. i had the wheel turned ninety degrees past straight and the truck continued pulling left. a motorist in an oncoming car veered sharply right and we narrowly missed a head on collision. the truck started to respond to my turning right as all the other occupants asked what happened. i showed them how far i was turning right to go straight, and i let the wheel turn back to center and the truck darts hard left again. by this time i had greatly reduced my speed, so it was much more controlled. i pulled over and inspected the front end of the truck, expecting to find something broken or disconnected, but it was all there and right. i had my wife turn the wheel back and forth and it was all functioning properly. not knowing what else to do i cautiously pulled back onto highway and it was fine. we were almost in a serious collision. i have zero confidence in this vehicle at highway speeds. *tr

Truck was maneuvering in parking lot when a noise from the front of the truck was heard. vehicle was not steering well. placed vehicle in park and turned off motor. upon inspection of the front steering found the front left tie rod end sheared. *tr

While going about 65 mph, hit a joint in the road on an overpass. the front end started shaking violently and continued to do so until the truck was slowed to about 30 mph. this isn't the first time this has happened. i've had it checked by a couple mechanics and a dealership. no one saw anything that should/would cause this to happen. after this last incident, i took the vehicle to another dealership who told me it was the steering dampener. they noticed it was leaking. i have been under the truck before and it wasn't leaking prior to this 'death wobble,' rather, i feel that is leaking because of the violent shaking. i know of 3 other people with 2003-2006 dodge ram 2500's that have also experienced this. a simple search on the internet gets thousands of hits. dodge needs to fix this problem. *tr

Backing out of a parking space; i heard a snap. as i turned the wheels to the left to pull forward, i heard another snap. when the pickup straightened out, i heard several popping noises and the steering caught. i rolled forward and the wheels didn't respond; the left tie rod had sheered off and the wheels were facing each other. i have the broken tie rod available for inspection. this was the new "improved" system. if this had happened on the highway, someone would be dead. the local dodge dealership sold me the piece at cost and suggested i call dodge. i called dodge and they had not heard of any other instances. there was another dodge involved in a similar scenario near gunnison, co in august. they were parking a fifth wheel camper at the time of breakage. again, thank god, they were not driving on the road when it occurred. *tr

While backing out of a typical driveway, the left tie rod suddenly failed (described by our mechanic as 'sheared off at the pivot connection/knuckle'.) the tie rod had been replaced, as part of "updated front tie rod kit", along with steering damper, pitman arm and all ball joints in august of 2010 (91382 miles on vehicle at that time) as the solution to severe 'death wobble.' it should also be noted that all ball joints had already suffered sever wear and required replacement in march of 2011, with about 126223 miles on the truck. *tr

On february 3, 2012 we were passing a logging truck in a legal passing lane when all of the sudden our truck started shaking violently. we lost all steering control and had no brakes all while shaking violently and headed into the oncoming traffic lane and over the embankment hitting trees head on. we have 2 witnesses to verify everything. the witnesses both said our tires were moving a foot ,or more, in & out during this violent shaking. our truck was totaled due to this accident. *tr

I just purchased my used 2005 dodge ram 2500 and decided to take it on a 1500 mile round trip to test it out. at speeds over 55 mph, i experienced the death wobble whenever i would hit uneven pavement. my conservative estimate is that it happened no less than 50 times during the trip. it was very scary and dangerous as many times i was traveling 70 mph with semis right beside me. the dodge dealer quoted me over $1200 to replace the steering dampener as well as the ball joints, with no guarantee that it would even fix the problem. this could have very easily caused a death if someone less experienced than myself was driving. i am very surprised that dodge has not intervened with this obvious design flaw as it could very well cause serious injury including death. *tr

On 9-10-11 i was driving my dodge ram 2500 on the same road as i always do and the steering wheel started shaking violently and i used up 2 lanes to get it under control. it will stop when the speed is about 45mph. i have replaced all the steering linkages with new. (dodge sells a 2009 upgraded steering system for this truck) installed new trac bar bushings, (originals were ok) installed new steering stabilizer, gear box bearing and had it aligned by the local dodge dealer. it is now not drivable as the "death wobble" is more frequent than ever. i now have a truck i cannot drive or sell and dodge will not listen. i have been driving for 33 years and have never experienced such a violent shaking and loss of control. your my only hope! *tr
