Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Dodge is aware of this issue. they have updated the part and there are many customer paid repairs. the control box for the heating and a/c system is defective and breaks at the blend door. when this happens, the blend door no longer works and it disables the defroster and a/c. on cool or cold days, the windshield can suddenly fog up and there is no way to clear the view as air does not blow in that direction. on hot days, the system can not push air out enough to keep the driver from excessive heat. the part number is 68004226ac. this part has been supersession chain of about 4 other numbers as dodge corrected design flaws over the years. i would also note that because this involved a/c and heating, many people do not notify nhtsa of the concern, but it is very well documented and known. it is a very common problem that causes driving issues without being reported.

Front wheel bearing noise/vibration. in motion city, highway, straight, turning instrument cluster failure stationary/ in motion loud vacuum/humming noise from behind glove box stationary/ in motion

Head light switch will not turn lights on an off, does not matter if stationary or in motion.

Turn signals stopped working. got a notice several years ago but the were fine then, not now. apparently the x42 multifunction switch has now gone bad. i have 105,000 miles on truck which is still within the mileage range for coverage. would like dodge to replace this part at no charge for me it is a major safety issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that there was a premature failure with the cruise control feature activating or not functioning properly. there was also unintended movement while the vehicle was in gear. the contact was unable to determine if there was an electrical failure that activated the cruise control, causing the vehicle to lunge and accelerate at a high rate of speed. force was applied to the brake pedal when the failure happened. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who checked for dtc, but was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. there was no repair recommendation from the independent mechanic. additionally, a brake light switch was replaced by the independent mechanic. the dealer (whitten brothers of ashland, 11409 washington hwy, ashland, va 23005, (804) 798-6071) was also unable to determine the cause of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v795000 (electrical system) and 06v038000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer issued six tsbs for the electrical system and was notified of the failure. the failure mileage approximately 130,000. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the low beam headlights became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuse panel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 214,552.

The ignition switch gets stuck and will not turn. it starting to happen more frequently now about 3 times per week.

Has an electrical short making the emergency brake light go on and off and a few other electrical things

First problem was one idiot light on the dash indicated the emergency brake was on (and it wasn't). but since the operation of the truck was not an issue, i continued driving for two more months while more and more idiot lights came on each time the vehicle was used, electronically reporting a problem with the vehicle when there wasn't one. finally two months later, the truck would not start at all or even turn over. when the key was turned to start the vehicle, the engine wouldn't even crank. yet all the idiot lights came on which indicated to me it was an electronic problem and not a mechanical one like a bad ignition or bad battery. after repeated attempts, opening and closing the doors electronically with the key fob on and off repeatedly, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, locking and unlocking the doors manually, and even jiggling the steering wheel, eventually the vehicle would start up completely normally, but with all the idiot lights on. this was erratic and there was no rhyme or reason why it was happening or what caused the problem. the situation continued like this about a week ...

The dash cluster started with the rpm guage stopped working at about 90,000 miles and now all of it is maxed out full gauges on the whole dash clucter and the speed odomiter still moves but is not correst its about 20mph off. i cant remember but i believe i was driving and noticed the rpm gauge first and weeks later i noticed all the other gauges

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the abs warning indicator intermittently illuminated. the contact also stated that the rpm gauge remained at zero. the vehicle was taken to autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram katy (21777 katy fwy, katy, tx 77450, (281) 715-6920), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 26,480.

The tipm needs to be replaced. the headlights went out on me driving to work at 3:00 am (in the morning) pitch black out. almost wrecked or died. this is not something acceptable. there jhave been many complaints and nothing is being done. dodge has a problem here and it needs to be fixed now!!!

Dropped truck off for detailing. truck was off. when employee tried to start truck battery was dead. after jumping battery, it started but once driven 50 feet to park, the truck key could be turned off, key removed, but truck still running. could not get it to turn off. electric windows closed themselves, air conditioning would not operate. dash board lights came on. manual brake was set and could be released, but light never went out. truck was about 90 degrees in hawaii heat, so couldn't drive it to dodge dealer with no air and windows inoperable. scary. had it hauled to dealer on truck while it was running. dealer said battery drained and tipm needs replacement, and then further investigation. est. $3,000 already for repairs. in month leading up to this, vehicle had vibration. dealers replaced fuel injector, rear end differential, brake pads and rotors and calipers, all which had passed an inspection just a couple months earlier. cost estimate on these combined $3,000 also. saw recall 05v461000 online for 2006 dodge ram 1500 transfer case. could this be related? i had similar thing happen with my dodge nitro which was on recall.

At first the wipers would stop randomly (while driving in a rainstorm) but i would fiddle with the switch and they would normally come back on. in the last week they basically quit working altogether other than a random stroke here or there. i replaced the wiper/signal control switch on the steering column yesterday thinking it must be worn out. to no avail, the wipers are not working and after researching on the internet, i find that it is a very common problem. people are replacing parts, spending money at service centers and not getting the problem solved. i live in the rainy northwest and i can tell you that it is a big safety issue not being able to see in front of you while navigating i-5 at 70mph at some random point during a trip. this problem started over a year ago but was always a momentary thing and would resolve itself, but it is now a permanent problem and i wish i knew what part replacement would resolve it.

2006 dodge ram 1500. vehicle would shut down while driving. engine would crank but not turn over. mechanic had to tear into engine to find the problem. rods bent, valve sticking, timing chain jump. basically the engine was shot. repair cost $3,000.00. it appears that a lot of other people have the same problem and it cannot be diagnosed without tearing into the engine. also turn signal would blink opposite of where turning. dodge needs to do something about this. these are safety issues! i would like to be reimbursed my costs. mileage on vehicle: 158,000. interesting enough, i have a 2001 dodge ram that has over 307,000 miles on it and never had this problem.
