We have classified the 56 complaints from 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
While driving my 2004 dodge ram 1500 while turning at approx 5 miles per hour the car stalled out this has now happened on various occasions. there is no code and several repair shops don t have a clue what to fix and just want to start replacing parts. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and then took the vehicle to an authorized dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. the contact experienced the recurring failure approximately twenty times. the vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 124,000 and the current mileage was 128,581.
Engine stalled at idle, then again when braking coming to a red light. it does this randomly with no warning. almost got into an accident on the second incident as truck took a couple times of trying to restart while at a major intersection. no engine light comes on and no codes are thrown. dodge needs to fix this on their hemi model trucks. have read on multiple web-sights that this is a continuing problem! if dodge doesn't do something soon to fix this for their customers i will be selling my truck for a ford again and never buy from dodge or tell others to buy from them!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact was stopped at a stop sign when the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 101,770.
My 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4, 5.7 liter hemi stalled while driving. the problem occurred within 3 minutes of filling gas tank and while slowing to make a left turn. since then vehicle has stalled within several minutes of each fill-up, (once while still at the pump) a total of 4 times. car has restarted almost immediately and problem only occurs after removing and replacing gas cap. *tr
Check engine light is on. strong smell of gas when vehicle is shut off. vehicle stalls at slow speeds. can't tell the engine quit as the rpms bottom out and engine dies. very dangerous for driving. no control after the engine stops. this happened twice today. first time was in traffic in a town at a stop light. couldn't restart the engine for awhile and couldn't get the truck out of traffic. second time slowed to turn around in a driveway entrance and backed up when i came to a stop to shift to d the engine stalled and i didn't know it. my truck was at an angle crossing 2 lanes of traffic. luckily, i was able to get it restarted. i googled the problem and it seems to be very common and dangerous with limited success on finding a repair solution. *tr
While traveling 60mph on my ram 04 hemi experienced a vibration which resulted in the vehicle running rough. broke 2 valve springs costing over $900 to repair. i've also experienced the sudden stalling and leaks from power steering lines. *tr
My 2004 dodge ram 1500 pick up with a 5.7 liter engine began to stall upon braking and coming to a stop. the engine would lose rpm and die (stall) leaving me with no brakes or steering. it would restart easily but occur again frequently. took the vehicle to a repair shop and after extensive and expensive diagnosis was found to have a failing throttle body and associated electrical failure. a new throttle body was obtained from dodge (different part number from original) and installed. total cost for the work was approximately $2,500.00. my research shows that this problem is extensive in this model and is dangerous.
2004 dodge ram 4.7l i was driving my vehicle from school, when without warning the engine stalled! was able to start it up and get it home! my mechanic has just informed me that the computer went out causing a gas buildup in which one of my valves was bent. the truck has 98000miles and as i've read online its very common for this to happen! its very dangerous because when it stalls u have no control! not to mention very frustrating and expensive. *tr
Dodge ram 1500 truck just shuts off when braking or turning. you have to put it in neutral and restart it. this is going to cause a serious accident or injury to someone and dodge has not recalled the vehicle. we have seen numerous complaints on the internet about this same problem. we have called our dodge dealer and n one seems to know what to do. it has happened more than once in the past month. *tr
Had just filled gas tank fifteen minutes earlier. driving on mountain rd. slowed for curve and engine quit, almost ran into logging truck headon. this has happened several times after fillup. once while driving 65 mph on freeway. slowed to let another vehicle in front of me and engine quite as soon as i touched the brakes. when i fill gas tank it usually die at first stop. does this until i have used up some of the gas. have asked dealer who sold the truck to me to look into this several times before i get killed. no response. i no longer drive that road just after fill up. have checked the internet and found that several 1500 ram owners have had the same problem. it will be like the ignition switch problem. people will have to get killed to get it fixed. *tr
2004 ram 1500 5.7 hemi stalls at low engine speeds, often at stop signs, traffic lights, or parking lot maneuvers. will usually start immediately back up, sometimes requires slight accelerator pressure when cranking in order to obtain self-sustaining engine speed. during decelerations, engine rpm is erratic and will often encounter a transient drop in rpm's to approximately 400 rpm before engine dies. issue seems to be more common and severe in cold weather, or when engine is cold, but has occurred under all conditions. this has been a persistent problem for about two years, happening anywhere from once a day to a dozen times. multiple dealerships and mechanics have looked at this, without result. the computer has been updated, the sensors, egr valve, and intake manifold cleaned, and the throttle body has been replaced. still not fixed. vehicle has been well maintained and has less than 55k miles. this is an expensive, dangerous, and frustrating condition. *tr
2004 dodge ram 4.7l automatic transmission. the design of the radiators with the plastic sides on the aluminum radiator core is defective. during the winter the radiator leaks on the passenger side near the coupling of the plastic to the aluminum. i think this is a safety concern since vehicles can overheat without proper anti-freeze levels, and leave owners stranded on the side of highways, and roads. let alone it's not good for the environment nor animals that enjoy the taste of anti-freeze. this is the second time this has happened to me with this truck. i replaced the radiator with the same type a year ago, and now it's doing the same thing as before. this is an o.e.m. radiator. *tr
Recently my ram 1500 has begun to stall for no reason. no check engine light will come on and no sputtering. just stalls when i slow down for a light or making a turn. it will usually starts right up and act like nothing happened. other times it will take about a minute to start. thankfully i have not been rear ended, yet.
2004 dodge 5.7 hemi engine has 2 dropped the valve in the number 6 piston on two separate engines, resulting in castrophic engine failure and needing to replace the motor. there are several complaints of this happening on edmunds .com. almost all of the engines are between 70,000 and 80,000 miles. dodge has not issued a recall to accept the defect and is costing their customers between 5k and 10k dollars an engine for those who do not now how to put the engine in. i am currently a dodge mechanic and have recognized this problem and would like to make it public. have brought this to chrysler corporation's attention with no result. the government needs to step in and do something about this because dodge is refusing there is an issue. *tr
