Problems with 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 92 095 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Was doing some regular maintenance on my truck climbed under my truck to do my oil change and a portion of my frame on the driver side about half way of the cab is rusted out. it was not like this bout 4 months ago when i did my last old change.

I have contacted the local dealer a number of times regarding nhtsa recall number17v-821. they state that there is still no fix for model year 2013 ram trucks. this is a significant safety issue.

Tl* the contact owned a 2003 dodge ram 1500. while the vehicle was at a stop light, smoke and flames suddenly appeared under the hood. the smoke quickly engulfed the cabin of the vehicle. the fire department was called to the scene to extinguish the flames and a fire report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to an undisclosed location and deemed destroyed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 33,000.

Dash breaking up trying to get pieces of so they will not cause any injuries if in accident cut hand on sharp edges left now am scared of dash if i do get in accident what we'll happen when this shrapnel is flying around and propelled by air bag

The rear end on my ram 1500 hemi 1500 gear is making a humming sound constantly, it never stops. i called the dealer they no longer have the part and i can't find one, i was told there was a recall, but i never received one. please help!!

Takata recall. like many other dodge 1500 owners, my dash has cracked and i cannot get the recall fixed. because it is cracked the dealer wont touch the air bags even though it states serious injury or death can occur if not taken care of.

Dashboard cracking and falling apart creating sharp hard plastic sections/pieces that can become injurious projectiles in an accident.

Dash board cracked in many pieces. pieces are falling into a/c vents, when a/c is turned some pieces blow out

The dash is severely cracked and disintegrating. pieces of the dash have come off completely and they have very sharp edges. this is a massive safety issue, not a cosmetic one. the missing dash pieces has exposed under dash wiring and air bag modules.

Over a period of a few years the dashboard has been cracking and small pieces breaking off. recently the air conditioning stopped working so i took it to my mechanic and it turned out to be a defective evaporator coil which is under the dash. when they started to remove the dash it broke into small pieces. i was not too worried about this because i had recently purchased a dash cover from an online company. the mechanic said it was not a cosmetic problem, the passenger air bag is supported by this dash and they would have to do a lot of extra work to keep the airbag in position. it cost me an extra $400.00. the nhtsa is aware that this is an extensive problem yet you refuse to consider a recall because you consider it to be a cosmetic issue. are you aware that an airbag is suspended from this dash and if the dash crumbles so does the airbag and very possibly will not deploy in an accident

Rear end seized up and almost caused me to wreck with my 17 month old child.

Just bought this veicle second owner of said vehicle look it all over. brought it to a.dealer ship to have a state inspection performed and the frame crunched on the lift. note the frame still had black paint on it from.factory. the frame literally rotted from inside out. and it appears i am not the only on with this issue. this frame has not lasted anywhere near the life expectancy of the vehicle 20 yrs. and there are way older vehicle on the road that still are perfect. toyota gets a frame recall but this dodge won't and i do not understand why this is so. this is a problem considering it's rotting from the inside out. i see frames braking while driving this is a major safety issue that should be addressed.

Dash cracked and busted, pieces come off when hitting bumps or potholes in the road

I own a 2003 dodge ram 1500 with some bad dashboard cracking. i just received a notice to replace my airbag. i am the original owner, cracking has occurred well over 10 years on my vehicle. if my airbag is replaced, my dashboard will be destroyed. what can i do? shouldn't dodge be held accountable?

Takata. the dash of my vehicle is cracked and missing in several places. the required repairs for the airbag inflator recall will cause further damage, if not full destruction of the dash. also, as pieces continue to fall from the dash, it creates a hazard of exposed wiring, as well as the risk of airborne shrapnel in the event of an accident or even evasive or emergent braking. dust and debris are visible in the vehicle when the defroster is active due to the damage to the dash, creating a visibility and health hazard.

I know dodge considers there cracking dash boards cosmetic, but if my passenger side air bag deploys, it will send hundreds of plastic shards into the face of the passenger. checking online, there are many who share this concern. thanks

Vehicle cuts off while driving can on highway or while turning, many others has same complaint online. very dangerous no vehicle on the highway should have this problem.

Around 2014 the dash in my 2003 dodge ram 1500 started cracking and falling apart. parts are falling into the vent ducts, so when the air or the vents are turned on small pieces of plastic are blown out the vents thus creating a safety issues.

Takata inflators: we took vehicle to dealer for recall repairs but dealer said we would have to purchase a new dash for about $1,400 to replace the existing cracked dash before they could do the airbag recall work. we cannot afford to spend that much money on a new dashboard so recall work has not been done, therefore, the truck is not safe. we have been told that because of the vehicle's age, no safe replacement dashboards exist. what can we do?

Dashboard cracked significantly, causing safety concerns in the event of a crash from flying debris after airbag deployment.

while vehicle is moving there is a whining noise from the rear of vehicle. i've had several mechanics audibly check for noise. they all said the same thing, "it's your rear differential". i've searched for recalls and have found non. i've found close to 100 complaints about this issue. i have gone on several dodge forums and have found quite a number of same problem. some respondents have said their "vin" produced a recall on this issue. i too would like the same consideration. this is for a 2003 dodge ram 1500 slt quad cab 4x4 5.7l 6ft bed now with 160,000 miles. all maintenance done at said factory intervals.

My wiper motors work but stop half way in the window and i replaced them with new ones and it does the same thing ? this is a big issue up here in wny as alot of dodge rams you see on the road have their wipers stuck half way reducing their site to drive!

Unforced cracking and disintegration of plastic dash resulted in small plastic parts projecting from defroster vents presenting a hazard to driving visibility

Ignition issue** i was driving home from work going about 35mph and hit a small bump in the road and then i felt somthing hit my leg, i pulled over to find out the key had fallen out of the ingition and onto the floor " . this is a big problem as their is no way to turn of the truck once the key falls out. this needs to be recalled and new improved ingnition switch so the key cant be removed when truck is running!!

Dashboard is cracking. sharp pieces coming off and could become a hazard to driver and passenger. this is a well known problem with dodge/chrysler.

The dash cover has cracked in half on passenger side, down the middle. it was not broken the previous day. i discovered it while cleaning the dash, it cut my hand on the sharp edges. the crack is in a very bad place, it is right in front of the passenger and has exposed sharp edges where a person can easily cut their hands.

The dashboard on this vehicle cracked after about 7 years. a month ago, as my son was driving, a large section of the dashboard popped out and flew off the dashboard onto the floor. there have been multiple complaints about this the dashboard material on this vehicle and when pieces start flying off while driving, i can't imagine how this is not a safety issue. i realize all older vehicles can have cracked dashboards, but when cracks lead to parts popping off, safety is an issue.

Takata inflator recall. nothing has happened. when i recieved the notice in the spring of 2015, i went to the local dodge dealer to get on some kind of "list". they looked at the recall notice, told me they would take my name and phone number and call me when they had parts. i did expect some wait time due to the number of vehicles affected, but i have had no contact from anyone since that time. now i have another notification; i'm not inclined to waste my time going to this dealer again. i expect them to contact me.

Takata recall- looks like chrysler needs some more fire under them, hopefully airbags don't deploy anytime. chrysler needs to also include a recall for defective "cracked dashboard" junk. if my truck was in an accident i would have sharp plastic and metal shrapnel all over myself and any other occupants.

I was driving on a smooth highway when i heard a loud crack. the dashboard split down the highest tension point and ever since the dash has literally crumbled before my eyes. i've has dashboard crack before, but never disintegrate before my eyes. i've kept this truck in great shape and have had no other issues except normal maintenance. this is a tragedy and dodge refuses todo anything about it. these are great trucks and this is the black eye for dodge. everybody, and i mean everybody that owns this yearts truck is having this problem and dodge ignore it. my dash is now a gaping hole filled with plastic shards.

Dashboard crack in pieces. bad quality. started crack few years ago and continuous breaking. it causes personal injure if if flying off the dash board.

Dash has just fallen apart shards are all over the place. ac re circulation door has broken off so can not divert flow from vents to defrost so i can not defog the inside of my windshield. the ac quit getting power do to ignition wires getting hot in connection.

Dashboard cracks - i am the 2nd owner of this 2003 dodge ram 1500. it has been a wonderful vehicle for me over the past 10 years with very minimal problems. in january 2014, i drove over a speed bump and while doing so, i heard a "pop" sound from the dash area. i didn't think anything of it at the time. the next day, i noticed a crack in the main dash area that extended from the front to the seam (3/4 back to the windshield). over the past 2 years, as you see in the photos, the cracking has continued and become worse to the point large sections broke off and fallen down into the dash. one piece had jammed an a/c blending door actuator, which i was able to pry out and fix the door. my concern is, if i am unfortunate enough to be involved in a collision, where are those razor sharp shards of plastic going to hit when the passenger airbag deploys? i no longer allow my grandchild to ride in this vehicle due to the dash cracks. if an area of the dash is pressed on, a large section just breaks off as if the plastic is the consistency of a cracker. dodge created this dash and has put my safety and the safety of all other owner at risk. this should be on a priority list for a recall. i've owned vehicles from other makers older than this one and have never had an issue with plastic dash boards cracking.

Dash cracked

Dashboard cover is falling apart! multiple cracking issues with pieces falling into the vents!

Dash board cracked all over even the louvers for defroster are gone now. i purchased this truck new in 2003 and only have 40,000 miles on it. it has never been in an accident. has been cracking over past several years. so not sure what date to use.

Cut my hand on a crack in the dashboard. dodge is not standing behind its product, they have defective dashboards and will not replace them. *tt

The truck was parked when the first crack occurred. left side of glove box on top. new crack appeared yesterday. based on the amount of failures people have experienced researching the internet, this must be a manufacturer defect. they only want 3000.00 dollars to fix with no monetary assistance. *js

Dashboard cracking in 2011 my trucks dash began to crack and i took it in to the dealership in everett, washington for repair/replacement. i was told that despite the fact that dodge knew this was a manufacturer's defect they would not cover the cost of the repair. it has since continued to crack but not to the point where it has fallen apart however due to the recent passenger airbag recall my dash will be destroyed in the repair process i will be required to purchase a new dash out of pocket which is bull as dodge knows they have a safety issue on their hands.

2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab, dash started cracking about 4 years ago and continues deteriorating, now has a couple of big cracks (3/8" wide) and some little ones. coupled with recall (r26/nhsta 15v-312) on defective airbag inflator housing (for which i have been waiting so far over 6 months for) this has potential for serious injury to occupants, i do not have luxury of using another vehicle. dodge do not seem in any rush to remedy this problem even though it is dangerous and a multi state issue.

No event(s) have caused this condition, it just happened. the dashboard of a 2003 dodge ram 1500 has cracked leaving sharp as a razor surfaces exposed. nothing has been done to correct the problem yet. *tr

Yes i own a 2003 dodge ram 1500 and about 2 years ago i started noticing that there were small cracks forming in my dash board and wasn't sure why. done some calling around and research and found out that there was nothing that could be done about it short of dropping 500 dollars on a new dash board. now two years later my dash looks like a jig-saw puzzle. i am worried about my dash falling apart one day going down the road. i work in the emergency field and it scares me for me and my family to ride down the road in my truck for fear of pieces of plastic falling off the dash. please help me...... *kb

Paint corrosion on the hood and top of cab, doors and had i had engine failure at 70,000 plus and at 107,000.

I have a 2003 dodge ram. for the past 7 years i have watched the dash crack and deteriorate into huge holes full of plastic shrapnel when you turn the fan motor on. i have been fortunate not to have been in an accident as of yet with this vehicle, but when it does happen, i will most likely need a large amount of stitches, so will my passenger. i find it hard to believe that dodge used a substandard material to mold the dashes on all of your 2003 dodge rams and not doing the right thing to ensure that your customers are not protected from dangerous materials that were used in the first place. oh yeah, my vehicle was stationary when the dash originally started cracking. i was driving around 50 mph when the first piece of plastic hit me. no accident, but darn close. i've not even started on the rusted wheel wells. my wheel wells just started to show a little rust last year. small little bubbles int he paint at first. now i have 2 large areas on my fender wells that are rusted totally through. i understand that my vehicle is 16 years old now, but dang! other than those two items, my truck runs great. if i knew that dodge would do their customer right, i would buy another dodge. i'm just not sure!!!!!!!!!!

Dash board cracking open in multiple places (6) this is awful. seems every body's dash boards are cracking. *js

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the paint on the roof of the vehicle is peeling and rusting. the dealer has been notified. the current mileage was 26,000 and failure mileage was 24,000.

I'm a dodge ram owner and i'm concerned about my cracking dashboards i have a 2003 dodge ram truck the dash cracked when it was 4 years old and the dash is getting more cracks in it i'm afraid the air bags will come out when we are driving i called big old dodge where we got it new in 2003 and they said they could not do anything about it *kb

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 dodge ram 1500. the front dashboard is cracked on the passenger side where the air bag is located. the crack is a straight line that begins at the top of the dashboard and extends to the end. there failure occurred suddenly and without warning. the vehicle is currently being repaired. the mechanic was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. the contact can provide an invoice and the damaged component if needed. the current and failure mileages were 14,000.

Own a 2003 dodge ram 1500. noticed a small crack in the dash on the passenger side of the vehicle by the airbag. crack has grown from a 1/2 inch to 6 inches and is very noticeable. i heard this is an ongoing problem and talked with other dodge owners that have the same problem. *jb

2003 dodge ram 1500 - 49,000 miles - dash board cracked. 2001 and 2002 dodge pickup trucks are already on a recall list for the dash boards cracking. *jb
