The dashboard in my 2001 dodge ram 1500 is cracking and falling to pieces. *tr
2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 v8 dashboard cracked into multiple parts. the crack literally happened all at once while i was driving. it sounded like a firecracker exploded. nothing was placed on the dash and i use a windshiled sun deflector to keep the dash from getting hot yet it still happened. anything i place on the dash now will fall into the inner workings of the dash. i have had some strange wiring/electrical problems since the incident all within the dash. with the cracks around the vents, the defrost does not seem to blow onto the windshield properly, therefore taking longer to defrost. i have priced the part and it will cost over $300 with it installed. i can not afford it being a single parent. *tr
2001 ram 1500 sport. about a year and a half ago i noticed a crack on the top of the dashboard above the passenger side air bags closer to the windshield. i was like '!@#$% i take very good care of the truck, i do not use oils on it since my eyes get irritated by it. at times i can actually hear something cracking in the dashboard, i look but don't see any new cracks visible. although now my dash is cracked very bad. it's spreading and is ridiculous. the truck looks new, but you get in it and see the big eye soar on the dashboard. i was unaware of being able to complain about it figuring it was a fluke. but now i have learned there are alot of dodge owners with the same or worse issue. how about a new dash cover or something. please stand behind the products you build. this is why so many americans buy foreign! help us help you! i won't buy another dodge if you don't stand behind the ?!@#$% you sell! i'll buy toyota! *tr
2001 dodge ram 1500 cracked, falling in dash heater core failure due to ground wire never being secured from factory rear doors will not open by using inside door handle electric lock switch failure passenger side. *tr hood hinges broke on both sides tailgate cable support drivers side replaced twice
The dash board of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck started to crack about 3 yrs ago and i've been trying to find another ever since. dodge has been on back order since my first call in sept 2006. every 01 dodge i've seen has a cracked dash board covered with a dash carpet/cover. this needs to be resolved! dodge is/was a great company i thought. i will be taking business else where if i can't get this issue resolved. *tr
My dash is cracking into pieces and it has sharp edges. in an accident these thick sharp pieces of hard plastic will cut someone. these can potentially put an eye out or severe the arteries in the neck killing someone. this is apparently a wide spread problem with dodge trucks. please address this issue. thank you. *tr
The dash has a crack in it starting at the defrost vent and proceeding towards the interior of the vehicle. *jb

Dash board is falling apart. started cracking 2 years ago and now is segmented into about 5 main parts. purchased truck new in 2001. contacted dodge and they said i had to pay for repair,if a recall was done then i would get rembursed. this is a safety hazard if in crash parts could fly into the face of driver or passenger. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated the dashboard of the vehicle was cracked in several places. there was one specific crack that ran over the passenger air bag portion of the dashboard. the manufacturer was notified, however the vehicle was not seen by a dealer.
Holes in dashbord. my son came inside the house with a cut finger because of it. 2001 dodge ram 1500. all these trucks have the same problem. *tr
I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 the dash on the vehicle is cracked and has quite a large piece missing from it. it has caused some electrical problem within the vehicle. *tr
Dash of truck has had multiple cracks for the last year; now, large chunks are breaking apart and falling in/out - now dashboard components are exposed to the sun & front portion of dash is loose and ready to break off also. dealer says lots of trucks have this problem but they're not obligated to do anything about it. they recommend paying to replace w/large labor costs. *nm
Dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram is cracking. *tr
The dashboard on our 2001 dodge 1500 truck cracked. i have never bought a vehicle brand new and had the dashboard crack. the truck is well taken care of. i know someone else who bought a used 1999 dodge 1500 and the dashboard on that truck was terrible. there was a huge hole in it. i would worry about buying another dodge because of this issue. *jb
After reading this link: http://www.local6.com/news/13227601/detail. html i realized that i was not alone in dealing with problems with the dashboard. at 11:45 am may 15, 2007, i contacted daimler-chrysler's consumer line. i was told that i would have to pay a dodge dealership between $50 and $60 just to have my dash looked at, and then if a defect of materials was determined, daimler-chrysler would offer assistance in having the dash replaced. if there was a manufacturing defect, i feel it should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to correct any such defects. as of right now, i personally have yet to experience any safety issues regarding this problem. but after reading the article i linked earlier, it has become a concern.*ak

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500. it is not driven very often ,and has mostly been garaged or under a car port. about a year ago i noticed that the plastic bezel around the dashboard had started to crack, but i thought nothing of it, not long after that i noticed the dashboard was cracking, and now i havd some very big cracks in dashboard that looked like it might fall in. i recently found out that this seemed to be a defect in the 2001 ram, and that it was common with this year ram. i was wondering what could be done about it? *ak
Dt*: the contact stated while having the windshield replaced at the local dealer, the dealer pointed out cracks on the dashboard and stated it was a common occurrence with their vehicles. the dealer and manufacturer would not warranty this problem. there were no further repairs made. there were many complaints on this issue # 10046877 regarding the structure. updated 12/18/2006 - *nm

Dash board falling thru on my 2001 dodge ram causing shortage in wiring and speakers started about 6 months ago and i have contacted dodge and they said there was nothing they could do about it, and have learned lately i am not the only one having this problem. *jb
I purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pickup ext. cab/short bed. like most other dodge ram owners of that year, my dash is completely falling apart. there are cracks all over it and two large holes have caved in on the dash. i have another hole getting ready to cave in on the passenger side. i have noticed on many websites that this is a known issue with the 1996-2001 dodge ram trucks and dodge will do nothing about it because it isn't a "recall issue". *tr
Like everyone's else's 2001 ram 1500 the dash board cracked all over the place, big pieces falling down inside the dash and vents, and also the heads cracked at 75,000 miles or so. *tr

4 years after buying the truck, dash coming apart, and having some electrical problems. no correction has been taken yet. *tr
I have a cloth cover covering dashboard that was on it when i bought this truck in 12/2005 i have noticed a huge crack and many small cracks running from the passenger window post to the front of the dashboard, this is a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4 x 4. dodger will not fix neither will dealer or extended warranty. i am afraid to let anyone ride in the front seat because if i was to have an accident i am afraid airbags will deploy and they will be cut to shreds with dashboard material because of these broken areas on the dashboard. we as consumers need the help of this place to get this recalled to ensure everyone's safety! *tr
2001 dodge ram dashboard caved in. have no dash left. *tr
When are you folks going to do something about this hazard? are you just waiting for someone to get hurt?? it is irresposnsible to continue to neglect this. you have 802 complaints on this vehicle and most are the following issue!!dodge ram dashboard manufacturer defect; falling apart creating a serious safety hazard in numerous ways. updated 04/12/10
My 2001 dodge ram 1500 has two cracks in the dash at the air registers. i am concerned that the one one the passenger side of the dash will affect the airbag, tearing it upon deployment and contamination of the airbag system from the top of the dash into those components. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact drove the vehicle to a local repair shop for a routine tire rotation. the mechanic informed her that the front driver's and passenger side tires were cut. the tires were rotated and she continued driving the vehicle. all four tires were rotated during two routine inspections, but, after the last rotation, the mechanic informed her that the "a" frame bolt was rubbing the tires and puncturing the front tires. the manufacturer stated that there were no complaints regarding the "a" frame bolt and to call the dealer. the dealer has not been notified. the current mileage was 70,000 and failure mileage was 35,000.
I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pickup that has a mysteriously cracking dash panel. there has never been a front-end collision or anyone pounding on the dash, as i am the second owner. i noticed a small crack in 2006 when the truck was about 5 years old and had about 63,000 miles. i didn't realize how widespread this issue is until the last year or so when i started seeing different websites with tons of complaints about this, particularly chrysler products and more specifically - pickup trucks between '97 - '02. i'm concerned about possible safety issues that could arise due to broken pieces damaging electrical wiring or components such as airbag wiring. also, it seems a slight possibility that this plastic could become dangerous projected shrapnel, if you will, in the case of airbag deployment on the passenger side. this plastic is very brittle and seems to be an obvious manufacture defect in that maybe the plastic was not cured at an appropriate temperature causing the brittleness. i am not sure if the panel was purchased from a supplier or was manufactured by chrysler. my particular truck was assembled in mexico, just in case that is a common thread. *kb
Dashboard is cracked in several different locations, has a couple of very sharp pieces of plastic protruding from dash, could harm a passenger in the event of an accident. the truck was kept in excellent condition, armor all'ed and kept in a garage most of its life. there is currently a cover made out of a very light material to cover the defect, however, in the event of a serious accident the plastic could easily penetrate the cover and potentially severely harm a passenger. *tr
In 2006, we observed a line crack in the dash. took the truck to a dodge dealership and was told it will cost over $1000 to replace dash. too expensive, bought a dash cover to cover it up. more cracks developed over the years, and the dash is now broken. the deterioration from dash began to weaken the instrument panel. cracks developed in the instrument panel, and now the panel is broken as well. we've never had a vehicle with dash and panel break apart like this dodge ram.
I have a 2001 dodger ram 1500 that i bought used around nov. 2005. when i bought it i didn't really notice anything wrong with the dash, but then a few months later around 50,000 miles, i noticed a couple of cracks near the windshield going across the defrost vents. since then my dash has about 12-15 cracks in it all going from the windshield all the way to the instrument bezel and the area near the passenger airbag. i contacted chrysler about the situation about a year ago when it started to get real bad and they told me to take it to an authorized dealer and have a diagnostic ran on it (it is a plastic dash, what are you going to run). after having a certified chrysler mechanic inspect the dash and tell me "yep, its cracked" and told me that "it is a very common problem due to bad plastic", i then called chrysler back and they said "that there was not a recall on that item, the vehicle is too old and too many miles for them to replace it and that now i know that i have to replace the dash." the dealer then told me that the dash was on back order for about 2 years. the very sharp pieces of the dash now stick up and out toward the passengers in certain areas and weather conditions. it also started cracking the instrument bezel too. i am just waiting for the whole dash to fall apart on day. obviously this is a major problem with 2001 dodge rams and i think that chrysler should take responsibility for their poor craftsmanship. *tr
The dash on my 2001 dodge ram caved in last year and i replaced it yesterday for $548. i was told it is a problem with the 2001. *tr
I have a 2001 dodge ram pickup truck and the whole dash is cracked and falling in. i do know that this situation was on the news about 1 year ago and i did file my report but i still did not hear anything about what dodge plans to do with this situation. *tr
My dashboard started cracking 5 yrs ago. i put a dash board cover over the dash to try to prevent it from cracking more, but it did not help. it continues to crack and now has some pieces missing bc it has cracked so bad. *kb
Dashboard began to crack a little over a year ago and has been getting bigger. if it cracks anymore it would look like it has just fallen apart. *ak
Dodge ram truck, 2001 dash has cracked so bad that there is almost no dash left on top. *tr
The dashboard on the 2001 dodge ram, 1500 started cracking about 18 months ago. it has now progressed to the point that i am fearful that the structural integrity of the entire dashboard was compromised , and that the passenger side air bag might not function as designed. *ak
About 18 months ago the dash on my ram 1500 started cracking. the dash is cracked in multiple places all across the width of the truck. i have not been in any accidents and regularly use a windshield sun screen when parked. i have seen several complaints on internet web sites and one news article on this problem. i am really concerned because my wife's cousin's dodge ram 1500 cracked and caved in. this must be very dangerous. *tr
2001 dodge pick up- about 3 years ago a problem began with a single crack in dashboard, then more cracks, pieces of dash began to fall into dash creating holes, then larger holes and recently collapsed. now concerned about exposed wires and intermittent electrical problems, i.e. lights, window, mirrors. *tr
I bought my 2001 dodge ram 1500 brand new. approximately two years ago, i started noticing hairline cracks on my dashboard. fast forward to 2008, and now i have a gaping crack on my dashboard with multiple cracks all over my dashboard. i have done research on this problem, and it seems to be a common problem not to mention a safety problem. luckily i have not had an accident, but i would hate to think what a sharp piece of hard plastic could do in an accident. this is clearly a manufacturer issue. what else can we, the public, do? *tr
2001 dodge ram 1500. around 80,000m dashboard has cracked in multiple places. dealer said they would not fix or warranty problem. *tr
2001 dodge truck dash boards cracking and collapsing. i have a '01 dodge truck and my dash board is cracking and breaking apart. this is a news report of many cases of this happening and i would also like to complain because i have tried to contact dodge and believe that this is a major defect in their produce and it is their responsibility to recall and fix this issue at their expense. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated the hood latch failed causing damage to the hood. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for inspection. the mechanic repaired the hood latch and no repairs were made to the hood. the manufacturer was alerted.
