Problems with 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 STRUCTURE

Over the past couple of years my dashboard in my truck has gotten progressively worse, to the point where it is now in pieces. i am worried that other problems will start occurring because of the fragmenting of my dash and falling down inside the dash. the screws along the top of the dashboard are now only holding on little pieces of dash and are no longer serving in purpose to my knowledge. i have heard that this could lead to problems with the air bags suddenly deploying or not deploying at all. i am also concerned with the many other things that could happen as a safety issue for myself as well as my passengers. i know there are many other thing that go on inside the dash that could cause many problems if they fail. *tr

I was driving home on the tollway from the airport in my 2001 dodge ram when the hood flipped up and smashed into my windshield. i had to slow down in traffic and get to the side without being able to see in front of me. now my hood is damaged, my windshield shattered, and damage to my roof. i investigated of past concerns and found numerous reports of this happening to 2000 and 2001 dodge ram trucks, a report was even done by the nhtsa but was found not that important apparently. this could have been a serious incident and was very lucky to get out of it unharmed. *tr

I had a cover on my dashboard and took it off to clean under it a few years ago. i noticed cracks all over the top of the dash. after a year or so i looked under the cover again & noticed there were big open spots where the dash actually was falling apart. i pulled pieces out that were large in size & now have holes in the dash exposing wiring and duct work and there are cracks that are now extending to the face of the dash. i had a chip on my window & had it replaced. when the window tech came to replace the window i told him about it so he didn't lean on it & get hurt. he said this was a common problem with this year dodge trucks. i found this website & was reviewing all the complaints & can't believe there isn't a recall for this issue with all these complaints. *tr

No incident, dashboard is cracked and has major crevices and holes. inside of the dash shows exposed wires and air bag compartment. pieces are crumbling and could become lodged behind brake if not removed soon enough. *tr

Dodge ram 1500 lst cracking dash vertically and horizontally and now chunks of it falling through. this is a manufacturer's defect and safety issue! it is also a nationwide issue as noted by hundreds and hundreds of lodged complaints and questions as to how to deal with this on multiple forums on the internet. took my truck in to dealership to have it detailed and vacuuming dust out caused more cracks and actually pieces fell through so i have jagged edges. anyone should be able to vacuum their dash! dodge needs to recall this dashboard across numerous model years beginning 2000. the jagged edges are a safety issue as will be the exposed wiring when the other cracks cave in. i want this replaced and i should not have to pay for $1000 for it. *tr

The dashboard and the dashboard bezel have disintegrated and caved in, literally falling to pieces in chunks around me inside of the cab on this vehicle causing numerous problems, falling pieces from the dashboard have caused the accelerator to become jammed when pieces lodge in the operating system, electrical wiring has become exposed resulting in premature failures. the defroster vents have become dislocated because they are attached to the dashboard which for all intensive purposes no longer exists, thus they do not work properly causing lack of vision when the windshield fogs and is unable to be cleared of that fog at high speeds, the result is creating an extremely dangerous high speed situation. i do not understand what the problem is with dodge these parts are very simple to install, there is no reason why dodge cannot simply supply its customers with replacement parts and let us install them ourselves. these parts are all made of plastic and should cost no more than a few dollars to mfg. if dodge were to supply these parts to all of the vehicle affected i seriously doubt that the cost would be more than 1m dollars and i would bet that the shipping would be more than the actual parts themselves. *tr

We were driving approximately 45 mph when the hood suddenly flew up and smashed into the windshield. we were able to maneuver the truck to the shoulder without there being an accident. the hood was bent and had to be replaced, hood mounts had to be straightened. a new hood latch was installed as the mechanic said this was the problem that it was stuck open, and in his opinion, defective. *tr

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 dash has been cracking and i have tried to keep up with the loose parts of it after they break off but while driving last week a piece became loose and in the turbulence inside the truck, with the windows down, a piece of the dash came off and flew into my right eye. i was able to get the truck stopped and after about 15 min i was able to get the piece out of my eye and continue driving. *tr

I have had no trouble out of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 until 2007. that's when the first crack came into being, with a crack i might add. i herd the snap and looked over and a huge crack appeared. it ran straight up and down the middle of the passenger side, more or less cutting the dash in half. well it went all down hill from there. one day in 2010 i rolled down my windows and the wind caught a piece of the dash and flipped it in my face. i ran off the side of the road and nearly wrecked. i was just lucky that there was no road sign at the place i ran off the road, or someone walking there at the time. and here is the kicker, i was on my way to work. at the end of the day when i got off work i had a flat tire. there was a nail in the sidewall that could not be fixed. i had to buy a new tire, [thanks dodge]. i can't touch the dash anymore, the lightest touch now will break more pieces off. and the plastic covers they sell to put on top of the dash is only a short term fix. the dash continues to fall apart under the dash cap causing the cap to warp and not fit right, or not at all. the only way to fix it is with a new dash, which i cant afford at a whooping $500.00 bucks. this is one problem that dodge should step forward to fix because it is a safety issue. *tr

We own a 2001 dodge ram club cab. my husband bought this truck used but in great condition february 2006. when purchased it had a tiny crack in the dash up near the windshield nothing worth making a big deal of. over the last four years so many cracks have appeared you cant tell it used to be one piece! one time i was driving and heard a noise, turning off the radio and stopping the truck i looked up to find the dash literally breaking apart before my eyes. these cracks are the entire width of the truck. driver side to passenger side. dodge needs to take responsibility for their product. since when are they exempt from having to own up to their failures. it is a shame that they are ruining their own name by turning their heads to this obvious problem. they make some great trucks, so why would they want to ruin their own reputation by not taking care of this? *tr

Dash have broken to pieces. at times a good bump in the road will cause a piece to break away. my biggest concern is the air bag going off in an accident and causing shards of this plastic to cause worse injuries to a passenger than the accident itself. this started with a small hole and grown to almost the entire dash gone. *tr
