We have classified the 483 complaints from 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
I have a 2001 dodge ram pickup purchased brand new and to no fault of my own the dash board cracked and basically chunk's of plastic dash has actually fallen out. now the speakers seem to be going possibly due to the dash having large holes in it and the heat being able to get to the wiring. *tr
Several years ago the dashboard began cracking in my 2001 dodge ram 1500. the condition has continued to worsen as time goes by. large pieces are falling down into the dash area and may cause shorting out or exposing wiring. *tr
Extremely severe damage to dash, the entire structure of the dash in my vehicle is in jeopardy of collapse. i contacted daimler-chrysler on two occasions to which their reply was that there was nothing they could do to remedy the situation. the damage has continued forward from the top of the dash in over six points and includes the black trim around the dash itself. i have found others with the same situation and feel that a recall is necessary. *nm
2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 - dash has practically disintegrated - cracks and huge holes in the dashboard and sharp edges on the pieces that are left. unsafe since electrical wiring and air bags are under dash. no recall has been issued as of yet. *tr
My 2001 dodge ram 1500 has had the dashboard disintegrating since 30,000 miles as i was informed by the previous owner. it only had cracks but since i have owned it the dash has literally disintegrated with sharp objects flying about the cab when windows are down. my research suggest that chrysler used inferior products as a cost reduction, did not acquire the proper manufacturing temperatures which results in cracking, and the dash is inadequately mounted causing flexing. this is a very dangerous situation.........and not a cosmetic issue as dodge has hidden behind!! when the dash breaks, sharp objects are in flight throughout the cab. when it breaks near the air bags, i believe they will deploy themselves and that alone is a serious event while driving in traffic! dodge has a history all the way back to my first purchase of a brand new 1973 dodge ram, ignoring warranty and making excuses of why things aren't their fault! it's high time this company assumes it's responsibility especially after tax payers bailed them out!!!! i have fought many battles with this company concerning warranty issues as well where a brand new 1976 dodge ram i purchased spun the races in the rears as a result of defective manufacturing!!! the time for making excuses is old, it's time for action and assuming responsibility for an inferior product!!! *tr
The hard plastic dash on top and front started cracking and falling apart in 2004. the vehicle is a 2001 dodge ram 1500 .i haven't replaced it because i think dodge should, since about every truck i have seen is like this. *tr
Dash is cracked on the right side near the vent and air bag. i am concerned that the air bag could be snagged by the cracked plastic and malfunction in the event of a collision. *nm
After about 11,000 miles the dash began to get cracks and fall apart. it gradually has gotten to the point that there are very large holes and pieces of the dash have gotten into the duct work of the vehicle. also have been having electrical problems with fuses blowing. that is when i took the vehicle to vann dodge in vineland nj and reported the problem. they took photos and later called me and said the determined that the dash was failing because of exposure to sun!!! the vehicle is garaged or parked in the shade for most of its early life and cracks and chunks happened for no apparent reason, but this is probably their way out of fixing the problem. now comes another problem or incident that happened to me because of this faulty plastic that was used to construct the dash. i was driving down the road and turned on my defroster and a piece of plastic blew out of the vent on the top of the dash or lack there of, and hit me in the face causing me to swerve and almost hit an oncoming car. i was lucky that the car avoided me or it could have been tragic. i went back to the dealership 2 months ago to have service on a different vehicle and questioned them on the status of any recall and they asked me for my vin # of my dodge ram pickup which i provided and they said there is no record of me taking the vehicle to them for a inspection, which is totally false!!! they conveniently lost my records on my pick up!!!!! something has got to be done to prevent someone from being killed due to this fault of chrysler corp. i have put a replacement skin on the dash but there was not much left to adhere the skin to at a cost of nearly $300 but the pieces continually fall into the vents. thank you *tr

The dash is cracked on my 2001 dodge 1500. i have talked to others and this seems to be a common problem. *nm
Dashboard cracking and falling apart on both my '01 and '97 dodge ram 1500 trucks. *tr
The consumer noticed a deep groove cut into each front tire near the inside of the rim caused by the lower a frame contacting the tire when turning. the mechanical turn stops did not reach their mark before the tire reached the a frame. the consumer found the same problem in two other dodges of the same year. (the 2003 models had a different design) the consumer may do more hard turns around on field roads, but this may be a hidden problem waiting to blow out in low speed turns. *ak *scc *jb
I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pick up and the dashboard started cracking in 2003 ,and continued to crack all over the dashboard to this date. *ak
I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck. several years ago the dashboard started cracking and caving in. right now there is a massive hole with sharp pieces that continually break off and pose a danger everytime i need to reach on the dash. my wiring is exposed and starting to cause problems. this is a defect from dodge and i need to have it fixed before an injury to myself or my family occurs. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. when the vehicle was parked, the contact observed that the instrument panel sustained severe cracking throughout the surface. there was an extremely large crack on the front driver side near the air bag. the most severe cracks began to peel. the contact was concerned about the potential safety hazard. the failure mileage was 40,000. the current mileage was 80,000. updated 05/10/10 *bf updated 07/16/10*jb updated 09/20/10
I have a 2001 dodge ram and the dashboard fell apart. i have read where others have the same problem and dodge refuses to replace or repair. this is a safety issue and may cause airbags not to deploy during collision and possible injury or worse.*ak
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 and the dash pad is cracked and several pieces are missing. i ask the dealer if dodge had issued a recall for the problem and was told no. i have been reading several comments on corcomplaint about drivers with the same problem having additional issue such as headlights not coming on and other electrical problems...having large holes in the dash and having the sun heating up electrical wires seems like a safety issue. this is my reason for filing this complaint. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard was fractured for almost nine years with sharp pieces of the dashboard exposed. the contact was concerned that the failure would puncture the air bags. the vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired for the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and they advised her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
Dash in 2001 dodge ram 1500 falling apart, cracks and sharp pieces sticking up. the dash is starting to fall in. dodge will not do any thing. *tr
Both parts of my dash boards are cracked, after all this time i now have no dash at all and now im having electrical issues. dodge wont help, i know of 2 people whom got their dash replaced for $100 and when i go they tell me first $1500 then $600 im the original owner . please help. dodge wont! also my son cut his wrist on the jagged piece on what's left of a hollow dash im willing to pay the $100 deductible but after all this time i feel dodge should step up to the plate and replace for free. thank you *tr
My company owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck, vin # [xxx]. while driving at 50 mph the hood released, flew up and landed against the windshield. the hinges and windshield were broken. but for the grace of god my employee wasn't hurt. chrysler isn't even interested in investigating what caused this as the truck is out of warranty.*jb information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Dashboard cracking , falling apart. *ak
The dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram 1500 has fallen apart. there are now holes in it. when i first contacted dodge about the problem they said they had no recall on it but to continue to watch for it, as several people have reported this same problem. my question is this, if so many people across the us are having the same issue with their 2001 dodge, then there has to be a problem with manufacturing when they molded the plastic. when is dodge going to step up and take responsibility for an investment that is falling apart, that is their fault? not only has the dash cracked on our auto but, the cigarette lighter busted loose from the plastic and is now located somewhere in the dash. the headliner and one of the interior fold down mirrors has come apart. this auto is literally falling apart in the cab. please tell me you are going to investigate this properly. i know of at least 3 other people who live in my area who are having the same problem with their 2001 dodge ram. *tr
My 2001 dodge ram 1500 dashboard started to crack around 2003, and is still cracking now. i had the truck inspected, and when the tech put the sticker on the window his hand went through the dash board, and now there is a big fist sized hole in my dash board. when it is cold my windshield fogs up so bad that i need to pull over and stop. this is due to the big cracks, and holes in my dash board. i almost ordered a molded dash cap, but i thought gluing this cap to a bad foundation (dashboard) is a bad idea. dodge needs to replace my dashboard, because i think eventually something will go wrong. this is a defect because there is evidence of many people with the same exact problem. *tr
The whole dash is cracked and caving in on itself. *tr
The dash continues to fall apart, the dash bezel surrounding the gauges is falling down on to the steering wheel. the dash went from a few minor cracks, to holes in the dash, to a full collapse. every bump on the road another piece falls off. i am worried about the broken pieces flying toward my passengers or myself in the event of a motor vehicle accident or other driving hazards. this is obviously a safety issue and needs to be addressed. nothing has been done yet to correct the failure yet, i have been using an alternate vehicle. dodge needs to take responsibility for this defect and fix it. *tr
I am another victim of the 2001 dodge ram dash board crack up. this started in 2003 and continues today. the dealer says i have to pay to replace it. i have plastic pieces of dash board falling into my electrical components. i worry what will happen when/if i get into a mishap. when is the government going to recall these dashes? does it take someone getting killed? if there is a recall, i cannot find it but know i should not have to pay to have it replaced. *tr
Dash, fromt cover covering instument panel. severly cracked so brittle, that even just a single touch makes it crack and fall apart. my youngest son has gotten cut by the sharp edges of the cracks before. vehicle was stationary. i haven't been involved in an accident, but i would be concerned that those sharp shards of hard plastic could fly an injury my xhildren and myself.
We bought the truck new it's in excellent condition except the dash, it is falling apart i have never seen a dash that looked this bad . i think it is probably dangerous! it got a small crack about 2 years after we bought it and now its awful and has been for a long time . i started looking for a replacement dash and ran across complaints in several states that had even had it on the news. *tr
Dash board cracked and fell into bottom of dash by radio heater core etc. *tr
The dash in my 2001 dodge ram 1500 started cracking about 3-4 months after purchase. right now there is little left of the top of my dash. i have a couple friends that own or did own the same truck and had the same problem, when it started cracking i thought for sure there would be a recall but to my knowledge there wasn't. i've tried writing letters but no response. *tr
The dashboard in my 2001 dodge ram 1500 is cracking and having large pieces fall under the dash itself. i am worried that this could cause injury to driver and/or passenger in the event of an accident or accidental airbag deployment. other issues could come from this problem due to all the wiring and other components that are under the dashboard. *tr
I purchased my 2001 dodge ram new and in less than 2 years it began to crack. shortly afterwards pieces begin to break out. now i have no dash cap left. when it begin cracking, about 15 months. i took it back to the dodge dealer and was told it was not covered and should not get worst. *tr
Dash had began to crack and cracks have progressed to point of they reach the trim bezel. initially dealer said to just wait they felt dodge would recall because it was very common problem. they didn't advise to replace because it would just happen with new one as well. but nothing was ever done and after contacting dodge customer assistance i was told because of age of truck and mileage now (60,000) nothing could be done. my concerns are if involved in an accident the dash could just crumble and send sharp pieces flying throughout interior. as well as interior of dash being exposed and causing operational issues while driving. *tr
Cracked instrument panel (dashboard). *la
I have a 2001 ram dodge 1500 and the dash board is completely cracked, large holes. started cracking a year after purchased new. it has been covered by dash cover. *tr
I own two dodge ram pickups 2001,1500 and 2003,2500 both have cracked dashes actually the 1500 the dash is falling out possible affecting the air bag system. *tr
Dash board started cracking at screws by windshield. now has cracked all the way across and is falling into dash. *tr
My dash cracked several years back while the vehicle was under warranty. i was wiping it down and sliced my hand open and got to looking at what it was that cut my hand and noticed several cracks in the dash board. i notified the dealership that i bought it from and they had a rep. look at it and he came to the conclusion that it was not a defect. so i proceeded higher up the chain but to no surprise i did not get any help form them either. they said that there reps word is the final decision. now after 7 years of driving this vehicle with a cracked dash or should i say no dash. i mean i practically have no dash left it has all just fell in. leaving many important exposed wires direct to the sunlight. its just a matter of time before something bad happens under there (wires short out causing a fire or headlights not to work at night or something to that affect) while im driving and causes me to have an accident. i feel that dodge should pick up this tab to repair this problem as it had happened to many dodge vehicle owners according to all the posting on the internet forums regarding this subject. i wish someone would step up and make them pick up the tab for all these poorly designed dashboards. *tr
Dashboard cracked in multiple places ,causing pieces to fall out. now there was a big hole in the dashboard.*ak
I have a 2001 dodge ram off road with 54000 miles on it and i've already had a new computer put in it, had the transmission rebuilt at 27000 miles because of the torque converter, and my dashboard is cracked all over the place from the heat. i've had nothing but trouble out of this truck and i will not buy another dodge again. *la
The dashboard is cracked and falling apart, resulting in loose pieces that fly around the truck. the jagged edges are a danger as well. *tr
Dash has cracks in it. *tr
Huge crack in the dash cause dryrotting in the wiring and caused headlights to ground out while driving at night. i stopped the vehicle but due to not being able to see i hit a ditch and it caused a minor injury to my brother. this could have very easily been a serious accident and this problem has been reported before> dodge refuses to eat the cost and fix this substandard dash problem. *tr
Left rear of quad cab not welded completely. quad cab door and drivers' side door do not close completely. you can hear them rattle when driving. this was reported to two separate dealers and the factory representative and chrysler corporation. they offered $500.00 for the defect. this is a safety defect as well as a value defect. we fear the drivers' side door may open, as well as the quad cab door, in an accident.
