I have a dodge ram 1500 that i just purchased 7 months ago used and guess what the transmission is gone and this truck only has 37, 000 miles on it. i believe that dodge knew this piece of crap was no good. i feel like the dealership that sold it to me might know something about it. but i am fighting with the dealership and dodge now to put a transmission in it. the dealership never offer extended warranty because they thought it had a 70,000 miles warranty and it does not. tell me i didn't get a lemon. i used to be a dodge/chrysler person after this i will never look at another one.*ak
Transmission problem, hesitates changing into high gear,{i/e}engine lugs down.was told when taken in for service ,it was because it is only a 6 cyc.i`m not satisfied at all.*ak

While driving at 55 mph consumer heard a loud noise. it sounded like it was coming through the transmission. vehicle was taken to the dealer, and technician replaced the differential unit, but the problem recurred. *ak
We bought this truck used from a dealer with 25k miles . . . at 32k we started to have transmission issues. the truck has been in and out of the shop with tranmission related fault codes, service etc since we've owned it, now after 2k in service in dec 03 and 2 trips back to the dealer for the engine light being on we are told the transmission is gone!!!!! why didn't the dealer catch this 3 weeks ago when it was back in?? the dealer, rappahannock motors in king george, va even contacted chrysler for us to try and get a replacement transmission, to no avail . . . this tells me that the dealer knows this is an issue!!!!
Transmission failure due to torque convertor failure. went to dealership while under warranty was told everything was fine at 34000 miles. at 43000 miles transmission went out. now i am out the money to fix it when if they had fixed the problem at 34000 miles it would have been fine. *ak
Dodge 4x4 quad cab (2001), right front ball joint snapped. in the fall of 2003 i was in 4 wheel drive and turned to the left from a parked position when the boll joint snapped on the right front.*ak
Transmission went completly out!! after several attempt to have it fixed by the dealership benny boyd in lampassas texas. i contacted chysler daimler to have it taken care, the refused to fix it.*ak
Own a 2001 dodge ram 1500, 2wd, xlt, quad cab, 8 ft bed, 5.9 ltr. have 48,500 miles. am going in to have the differential repaired for a second time. the gear / clutch system has failed twice. thanks to my warranty it has been repaired, but my warranty expires in 1000 miles and i know this differential will not last another 25,000 mile. i had owned a 1989 dodge ram van and put 200,000 miles on it with no problems, which lead me to buy another dodge. now i can not even get 25,000 miles with out problems. have never towed or carried a load over 500 pounds with this p/u. most the mileage is highway driving. was looking at buying another dodge but now i have my doubts. once this repair is done i might look into getting rid of the truck before it costs me excessive dollars to keep it rolling. have heard of other complaints as to this same problem but have not seen anything in writing.*ak
Transmission broke down. *jb
I bought a 2001 dodge ram 1500 in nov 2002. since ive owned the truck i have had to replace in the transmission: a locking silinoid, an overdrive solinoid, 2 torque converters, and a pressure transducer. i would think that maybe i just had a lemon, but the more people i talk to that have these trucks the more that i find that it is a manufacturers problem that they will not address (i have contacted chrysler) refused any assistance.*ak
I have heard several complaints of the 46re transmission on dodge trucks, hoping i would not experience it. on wed. november 12 2003 my transmission blew. chrysler will not do anything cause of my mileage of 55,000. the truck has never towed or hauled anything. this transmission problem needs to be addressed. my truck is going to get a rebuilt in it but i will be without a vehicle for the next 3 weeks. this is not acceptable for a $30,000 vehicle. *la
I have a 2001 dodge 1500 w/a 5.9 v8. at around 58000 miles transmission started to go out. took it to a shop, and they told us it was the torque converter. we replaced the transmission, and yet the problem still occurred. i am an hard core dodge buyer, but this is starting to turn me off dodges all together. *ak
Total transmission failure, no slipping no warnig, truck just would not go had 60000 miles this caused me and my mother and little child to walk on dangerous highway for help.repair cost 1800.*ak
On 9/1/2003 at approximately 8:40 p.m. my son was driving our 2001 dodge ram pick-up on us 23 south between omer, michigan and standish, michigan. i was in the passenger seat in the front and my husband was in the back seat. all of a sudden there was a loud screeching noise and we went into the oncoming lane of northbound traffic. my son kept saying he could not control the truck. he was able to get the truck back in the southbound lanes and the truck kept fishtailing. all of a sudden the truck took a very hard right and we went through the ditch with coattails into the farm field and rolled the truck. when we stopped moving and we were all out of the truck some people who stopped, we asked them what happened and they said all they saw was headlights flying in the air and it looked like we lost a tire. with the police there he asked my son if he had fallen asleep my son said no that all of a sudden he could not control the truck. the police then thought we had a flat tire but upon looking for the tire in the farm field it was discovered that the back drivers side wheel had broke at the axle right at the spindle. all lug nuts and brake pads were still intact inside of the wheel and it was not flat. also where the axle broke off the wheel the metal was shining and crackling. none of us, luckily, were seriously injured scraps, bruises, and a lot of pulled muscles. none of us went to the hospital. we do felt lucky that it happened where it did since 10 more minutes up the road we would have been on i-75 south in holiday traffic and things i am sure would have been different. we do feel and with anyone we have talked with that this was a manufacturer defect of poor metal not being heat treated correctly. *la

The tranmission failed on my 2001 dodge ram quad cab 4x4 at 54,000 miles (unbelievable!). well maintained! i had two different licensed mechanics look at and diagnose suspected problem (high quote of $2,500.00 for full transmission repair), incurred 2 tow charges, called chrysler meadowbrook dodge dealership (where vehicle was purchased)- they couldn't look at it for 2 days and told me since i was past my 3/36 warranty to take my truck to a transmission shop for faster service and better price. i called chrysler customer relations and was told that a good faith payment toward my $2,100.00 bill would not be made because i was past my warranty and didn't have my vehicle serviced at an authorized dealer otherwise maybe something could have been done. i feel chrysler should reimburse me. i leased this vehicle new, this well maintained vehicle only had 54,000 highway miles on it, the transmission should not have failed. *ak
When putting vehicle in reverse it produced a loud noise. then, when switching gears the vehicle shut off. dealer notified. *ak
Pulling into driveway, the truck shut off. it started back, but seemed to hesitate when trying to accelerate. the following day, the truck continued to hesitate. i added transmission fluid and took a "test drive" in the driveway to see if it continued to hesitate. it did not, but i noticed fluid leaking out of the bottom of the truck (the transmission fluid i had just put in). i had to call a roll-back to tow it to a mechanic. he said it took him a day and a half just to remove the transmission. he noticed metal shavings in the transmission fluid. he was unable to remove the torque converter at all. it was completely stuck. this truck has only 50,100 miles at the time of this repair. we had to have a new transmission, and transmission cooler, totalling $3,061.19 in repairs. i called the dealer i bought it from, and no one returned my call. i called the daimlerchrysler corp. and was told that there was nothing they would do. *ak
Transmission failure rebuilt 2 times. *jb
2001 dodge ram 4x4 offroad - transfer seals have gone out and begun to leak 3 times in the past 6 months. each time the truck has been taken to the dealer and had the seals replaced.
I have a 2001 dodge ram with 23,600 miles on it. two weeks ago the transmission completely failed 2 hours form my house. it left me stranded on the side of the road with a truck load of hunting gear. of course it had to be towed to the nearest dealer. diamler chrysler could care less that it was 9pm and i had no way home. the dealer in annapolis rebuilt the transmission - they claimed the torque converter failed. they had the vehicle for a week. 3 days after i got the vehicle back, the transmission started to fail again. now its at leesburg dodge (va) and they are in the process of rebuilding it a second time. this truck has no tow hitches and has never towed a heavy load. it is not abused but just failed. this is unnacceptable and if things are not made right with me, i will never buy another dodge again.
The rear passenger axle failed, however the manufacturer/dealer refused to honor the warranty. *jb this occurred while the consumer was going up a mountain when the vehicle suddenly went out of control, dropped to the ground and went into a right tail spin. the consumer struck another vehicle on the left rear side. *sc the consumer stated the air bags did not deploy. *jb
I took my truck to a dealership to have the transmission looked out before the warranty of 36,000 went out and they stated there was nothing wrong with it.then when the transmission had 50,200 miles the transmission burned up ..i had to pay 3200.00 .i called daimler chrysler in bonham.tx and spoke to a mechanic and stated it i could find the cause and if it was a manufacturing problem they would pay to fix.then when we did find it was a manufacturing problem daimler chrysler backtracked and stated was not their problem .*ak
Camshaft leaking fluid, and is starting to cause problems to transmission.contacted dealer. please provide further information. *ak
Is a 2001 dodge ram 1500 susposed to come out of park without touching the brake pedal? the truck came out of gear from park to reverse and caused $2500 worth of damage. the engine was running in this case. however, my 3 year old granddaughter was able to take the truck from park to reverse while standing on the seat. the truck was parked at that time on a inclining driveway so it rolled only to the street. chevrolet products, i know, have a safety feature which requires the break pedal to be pressed in order for the vehicle to come out of park. *ak
Transmission overheats after a few minutes of driving. *tr
The valve body was replaced as a result of the first repair attemp. second attempt the transmission was overhauled, replaced pump, input shaft & torque converter. third attempt is currently being made. same as second to be replaced.*ak
Per dealer service advisor, my trucks wheel sub-assembly was damaged from an over-torqued center nut (during manufacture assembly). this condition caused the bearings to seize and superheat, they have been cutting into the axle and the heat expansion caused the brakes to fail (locked on, but steering has not been pulling). parts needing replacement include: axle; caliper; hub and bearings; rotor; center nut; center cap.
I have a 2001 dodge ram off road with 54000 miles on it and i've already had a new computer put in it, had the transmission rebuilt at 27000 miles because of the torque converter, and my dashboard is cracked all over the place from the heat. i've had nothing but trouble out of this truck and i will not buy another dodge again. *la
