Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Brake light computer control board had electrical short that caused light not to work. had to replace board to get brake light to work. could cause rear end accidents if brake lights do not work. dealer(cass burch quitman, ga.) advised no manfacturer recall and they have replaced several.

Dt: had the vehicle serviced at a little over 30,000 miles and noticed the (mil) light came on then went off, and currently s back on a and was staying on. contacted the dealership and they want to charge consumer to look at it. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard has cracked on the driver side. the dealer will replace the dashboard free of charge, but not the frame of the dashboard. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 40,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

The in-tank, electric fuel pump failed in my 2001 dodge ram 1500 pick up truck. the connector and wiring on top of the fuel tank was burned as was wiring in the power distribution center under the hood. this is potentially a very dangerous situation. chrysler is replacing the fuel pump and repairing the wiring. however, they offered no warranty coverage and no coverage of the collateral damage resulting from the pump failure. *ak

The dash is cracked bad and could cause a person to get cut from this.really cracked badly from the sun.poorly made from plastic.if you want photos, let me know, and i will send you some.

Purchased vehicle 2003 with 32,000 miles. at 45,000 miles motor had to be rebuilt.new crankshaft, rod bearings, main bearings, oil pump. 2 days after picking up the truck after work was done, main seal went out and lost oil on highway on my way to work. everything covered under warranty, but it's just the fact that the truck still has problems with such low mileage and year. ongoing electrical problem. fuse for climate control, air bags, abs brakes, power windows, mirror defrost and reverse lights keeps blowing. has blown 5 times in the past 3 months. dealer replaces the fuse, says there is nothing wrong with it. *ak

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 has had the dashboard disintegrating since 30,000 miles as i was informed by the previous owner. it only had cracks but since i have owned it the dash has literally disintegrated with sharp objects flying about the cab when windows are down. my research suggest that chrysler used inferior products as a cost reduction, did not acquire the proper manufacturing temperatures which results in cracking, and the dash is inadequately mounted causing flexing. this is a very dangerous situation.........and not a cosmetic issue as dodge has hidden behind!! when the dash breaks, sharp objects are in flight throughout the cab. when it breaks near the air bags, i believe they will deploy themselves and that alone is a serious event while driving in traffic! dodge has a history all the way back to my first purchase of a brand new 1973 dodge ram, ignoring warranty and making excuses of why things aren't their fault! it's high time this company assumes it's responsibility especially after tax payers bailed them out!!!! i have fought many battles with this company concerning warranty issues as well where a brand new 1976 dodge ram i purchased spun the races in the rears as a result of defective manufacturing!!! the time for making excuses is old, it's time for action and assuming responsibility for an inferior product!!! *tr

After about 11,000 miles the dash began to get cracks and fall apart. it gradually has gotten to the point that there are very large holes and pieces of the dash have gotten into the duct work of the vehicle. also have been having electrical problems with fuses blowing. that is when i took the vehicle to vann dodge in vineland nj and reported the problem. they took photos and later called me and said the determined that the dash was failing because of exposure to sun!!! the vehicle is garaged or parked in the shade for most of its early life and cracks and chunks happened for no apparent reason, but this is probably their way out of fixing the problem. now comes another problem or incident that happened to me because of this faulty plastic that was used to construct the dash. i was driving down the road and turned on my defroster and a piece of plastic blew out of the vent on the top of the dash or lack there of, and hit me in the face causing me to swerve and almost hit an oncoming car. i was lucky that the car avoided me or it could have been tragic. i went back to the dealership 2 months ago to have service on a different vehicle and questioned them on the status of any recall and they asked me for my vin # of my dodge ram pickup which i provided and they said there is no record of me taking the vehicle to them for a inspection, which is totally false!!! they conveniently lost my records on my pick up!!!!! something has got to be done to prevent someone from being killed due to this fault of chrysler corp. i have put a replacement skin on the dash but there was not much left to adhere the skin to at a cost of nearly $300 but the pieces continually fall into the vents. thank you *tr

The wiring harness on this year model has an insufficient ground which leads to a short in the harness. this in turn causes multiple problems, such as the trucks smoking from under the dash and or catching on fire completely. please check with the insurance companies thank you for your time

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard cracked into pieces and the speedometer does not work. the dealer stated that the warranty for the interior of the vehicle expired at 36,000 miles. the estimated cost to repair the dashboard front cap is between $450-$600. the contact feels that the failure is a fabric defect and the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair cost. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 37,000 and current mileage was 67,179.

When raining or high moisture the vehicle dies or will not start. driving down the interstate several times it started to rain and the truck engine stopped running. leaving me with no power steering and trying to pull off the highway in traffic. if raining or damp. when try to start, there is no such luck. we have to leave it sit in the drive unusable. when you turn the headlamps from high to low beam the lights go out. the engine light stays on most of the time. *tr

Daimler chrysler mailed a letter informing me of a recall on th 4e power distribution ccenter generator cable connection on my truck. my spouse took the truck to don marshell dodge and service center . 716 north hwy 27 p.o. box1509, somerset, ky 42502, telephone # 606-678-8178. the truck was scheduled for another repair but my husband brought the letter and asked that the cable also be fixed. the service person looked a the letter, laid it down and said that they "looked' at it and it was fine. the service department refused to fix the cable. the letter that daimler chryler mailed regarding the recall stated that any complaint with the dealer regarding having the vehicle fixed should be directed toward this agency.

This vehicle shut down the ignition at 70 mph on highway.several times. it would restart after a waiting peroid of 10 -15 minutes.took to dealer initally and was told nothing wrong. i told them the ignition shut down i thought due to asd timing failure sensed. but no action taken by dealer . i was paying as warranty expired. did it again in 3 weeks. took to dealer and he changed crank prox switch although the truck was driven to dealer. for a vehicle to shut down from a computer "glitch" at speed when there is absolutely nothing wrong mechanically with it is strange logic and dangerous. dan johnson. *ak

While driving at highway speeds, vehicle completely shutdown, but air conditioner was still running. consumer felt this was an electrical problem. *ak consumer lost all power including steering and brakes and was forced off the road. dealer replaced terminal to ignition switch. *jg

Nhtsa recall 02v042000/ manfacturer recall b04: consumer contacted dealer end of may to have recall serviced. dealer was presently waitng for parts on back order. vehicle was driven on a daily bases. please provide more information.*ak

Dash had began to crack and cracks have progressed to point of they reach the trim bezel. initially dealer said to just wait they felt dodge would recall because it was very common problem. they didn't advise to replace because it would just happen with new one as well. but nothing was ever done and after contacting dodge customer assistance i was told because of age of truck and mileage now (60,000) nothing could be done. my concerns are if involved in an accident the dash could just crumble and send sharp pieces flying throughout interior. as well as interior of dash being exposed and causing operational issues while driving. *tr

I have a 2001 dodge ram off road with 54000 miles on it and i've already had a new computer put in it, had the transmission rebuilt at 27000 miles because of the torque converter, and my dashboard is cracked all over the place from the heat. i've had nothing but trouble out of this truck and i will not buy another dodge again. *la

1998-2001 b-van (dodge full size). the abs control module is protected with a 40 amp fuse. a 10 ga. wire comes out of the control module, then this 10 ga. wire "y's" out to two 14 ga. wires. it appears as though the abs pump or the relay sticks on these vans. then one of the 14 ga. wires overheats and catches the wiring harness on fire. the 40 amp fuse does not blow. the fire then continues until the van is fully engulfed in flames. this van was bought back from us by chrysler corp. in 2002. the official fire investigation reports conducted by chrysler were never disclosed to us at verizon. *ak
