Problems with 2008 Dodge Nitro FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2008 Dodge Nitro starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 45 092 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2008 Dodge Nitro

The last 2 times i filled my fuel tank in my 08 dodge nitro rt it spills out all over the ground. this occurs when the pump stops...then the tank starts to spill at least a half gallon of gas gets all over my truck and the ground!!! this can be a safety hazard at the fuel stations for myself and others around. a simple spark due to a faulty ground in the area could cause this to ignite and be potentially fatal. i feel chrysler should be held responsible for this and a safety recall be issued. many people have had this problem and it appears that the powers that be are not enforcing chrysler to make this a recall issue. i guess it will take someone to become severely injured or killed before anything is done about it. chrysler has a tsb (14-001-09) in regards to this issue so they know it is a problem and they continue to want to charge customers to fix the issue. someone needs to do something about this asap! *tr

While filling the gas tank, my husband was covered in gasoline. i purchased the vehicle 2 weeks ago and it happened to myself, but i thought it was the gas pump that i was at. my legs were covered in gas and i had a cut on my leg and the gas was in my cut and burned terribly. my husband is a volunteer fireman and i am an emt. we will be using this vehicle to respond to real life emergencies. i am very concerned that it may cause injury to myself and others. this is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. the valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and my car could possibly explode in a rollover accident or if on an emergency scene it could be hit and cause and explosion.. *tr

1. every time i fill up gas spilld out all over! 2. the gear shift pops out of first gear on a regular basis when taking of from a stop. 3. the emergency brake has stopped working at all! i contacted my local dealership with a recall i received on the under body transmission tunnel shield and they have yet to fix the problem say im on the list its been months! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge nitro. the contact stated that while refueling, the fuel pump shut off as gasoline began to spew all over the contact and the side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for inspection where they stated that the vent valve may have needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 60,000. updated 3/13/13 *cn the consumer stated this failure occurs at every fueling. a service manager with chrysler advised that chrysler knows of the default with the rollover check valves. he stated replacing the tank is possibly a temporary fix. chrysler offered an assistance to pay less than half of the cost of repairs. the consumer declined stating that replacing the tank was not guaranteed to solve the problem. updated 03/28/2013 *js

As i fill the tank the pump will shut off and after a few seconds it the gas has a large splash back from inside of the tank i consulted a mechanic and he stated that it is the roll over/vent valve inside of the tank and that it does not open and close correctly and that the only fix for it is to replace the entire fuel tank at my expense. this creates a safety hazard in two ways when fueling the car, ground and the operator should not be covered with gasoline at any time second if the roll over valve fails then it should be a failure of the mfg and should be replaced. *js

When filling the gas tank, the gas will spew out as the tank gets full. the gas gets all over the side of the car as well as the ground around that area. this is a well documented problem on nitro forums and the cause is known to be a faulty roll over valve in the tank. the only fix is to have the tank completely replaced. this is a known defect and safety concern and the owner should not be responsible for the replacement. this is not sanitary or good for the car. the exact same problem was recalled on the jeep liberties but not for our nitro's, which have the exact same tank. this is a serious health and safety risk, please help us nitro owners out. *tr

When filling up at the gas station on several occasions, the overflow did not function correctly which let to gas spilling out on to me and the area around the fuel tank. *tr

Splash back of gasoline when filling up fuel tank. incident occurs just about every time tank is filled and the consequences are that a large amount of gasoline shoots back out of the filling nozzle all over the painted surface of the vehicle and on to the surface of the area in which parked. in addition to aggravation, environmental damage, paint damage, there are extremely dangerous consequences that could occur if some sort of an ignition source occurred at the time it happened. *tr

Gasoline overflows every time i fill the tank. it occurs without "topping off" and without warning. approx 0.5 gallon sprays out with moderate force on the person, car, and ground. i have found that this is a known and common malfunction with dodge and jeep vehicles. *tr

When i fill up my tank at any gas station, i will put the gas nozzle in the gas filler neck, and have it fill up. when the gas tank reaches it's maximum level, the gas nozzle will automatically 'click' off, however, the gas will overflow out the gas filler neck and spray out all over the ground and down the car, i'm thinking that something so flammable as gasoline spraying out and dripping on the ground and down the car is a huge fire risk....am i wrong? *tr

When filling up with gas, instead of the pump shutting off the flow of gas, a gush of gas comes flowing out and over the side of the vehicle onto the ground. (i would say at least a 2 cups of gas.) i originally thought it was the pumps fault until it happened two more times at different stations. i am over the three year warranty (however, way under the mileage) and when i called a chrysler dealership. they will not accept as a warranty issue. i brought up the fact that many people have been experiencing this and i am very surprised that chrysler has not issued a recall. they sugguested i call chrysler and deal with them directly and gave me an 800 number. (which i have been on hold for the past 15 minutes!) *tr

This car was in a car accident and they fail to report it. bought it in mercado motors they said car was fine 2 weeks later car never turn on again. *tr

When filling up my gas tank the pump stops and then the gas overflows all over the car and on the ground. *kb

Gas tank overflows during filling process. sometimes the pump shuts off and then overflows, and sometimes the auto shut off doesn't work and the gas spews until shutoff manually. *tr

The problem is filling up my gas tank. every time i go to fill up the pump shuts off and then about one half of a gallon (maybe more) comes gushing out of the tank all over my vehicle, the ground, my shoes, and whatever else may be in the way. i have read online that it is a default in the gas tank dodge puts on these nitros. its supposed to be a safety thing in case the vehicle were to roll over. but we are talking about a highly flammable liquid just pouring out of my vehicle and onto me and the ground. i am not under warranty anymore, as i bought this vehicle used, but i really don't think i should have to pay to have something like this fixed when dodge knows that it is a defect. thank you for any help!!! *jb
