Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2005 Dodge Magnum

Engine stalls multiple times after refueling while driving, usually when slowing to turn or slowing to come to a stop. i just purchased this vehicle, and have not been able to get to a dealer to have the problem checked, but i understand this is a problem with this engine and there has not been a recall to correct. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. the contact received a recall notice for the driver side air bag and fuel pump. the contact took the vehicle to be repaired at lakeshore chrysler (330 e howze beach rd, in slidell, la). after the repair, the contact was informed by the technician that a code was found for the weight sensor circuit on the front passenger seat, which failed and needed to be replaced. until the sensor was replaced, both the driver and passenger side air bags could deactivate and would have to be repaired at the contact's expense. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the nhtsa campaign numbers were unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 200,092.

Hello, i need your help and i cannot get any help from dodge. my vehicle has experienced an issue where the car will stall after the fuel tank is full. i heard that this was an issue but my vehicle was not on the list but however have the same issue. all i want to do is have fairness from an issue that i did not make happen. i have contacted dodge and they turned me away. along with the stall engine it almost appear as if it might cause a leak. can you please help. i will continue to send emails and possible contact corporate office or the mayor. thank you *tr

Immediately after refueling to a full tank engine stalled and almost stopped while at a stop light only about 100 feet from gas station. while stopped stumble occurred two times, but never stopped completely. this is clearly a safety issue since a stall could cause traffic problems, brake booster degradation and driver insecurity. this second occurrence in a month. *tr

The car will stall every time after i fill up the gas. it 's very scary because i don't know when the car will die on me when i'm on the road and cars are behind me and just very afraid of someone is going to hit me from behind when my car dies on me suddenly. yesterday i went to fill up the tank ( not all the way full ), after i drove about 1 block, the car stalled. i was unable to turn the steering wheel and the brakes lost power, i ran off the road and down an embankment to a parking lot right front tire blew out as i hit the curb. some minor body damage. *tr

Drove vehicle for about 30 minutes at 70f ambient. turned off vehicle and was away from it for about 10 minutes. restarted engine and it had little if any compression and made a bad metal banging sound when started. engine destroyed. dealership analysis revealed #3 intake valve seat fell out of head and destroyed #3 piston and cylinder requiring a new engine. vehicle has 91,000 miles. *tr

After filling tank of gas; engine quits leaving gas station and was almost rear-ended. this has happened the last 5 times we have filled with gas. seems to run fine after 2-3 miles. thank you. *tr

After filling the fuel tank, several times the engine sputtered and / or died, at low speed and at a stop. *tr

Engine stalls just after filling the gas tank when stopping at a traffic lights. this was handled under nhtsa action number pe13016 in the past. i understand this was closed on february 10, 2014, but has been recently reopened. *tr

For the last 2 fill-ups, my magnum has begun to exhibit the rough running and stalling after the fill-up that has been reported by numerous other owners of chrysler products. *tr

After filling gas tank, car shut off leaving station onto busy street. i was almost rear ended. car did re-crank within a minute or two. this is a safety issue, especially in heavy traffic. *js

Soon after filling the gas tank of my car it started to stall at very slow speeds. the car cut off completely and the oil light came on. the car started up as soon as i tried to turn it on again. after doing that stalling multiple times, i took it to the dealer and they replaced the egr value. after filling the gas tank again the car began to stall again. when i took it to the dealer a second time they said they would need to replace the gas tank. while the 2006 dodge cars with the same features have been given a lifetime warranty on the gas tank, i was told there is no warranty on my car for this issue on my 2005 dodge magnum. *tr

Recently purchased an 2005 magnum r/t took it to fill up for the first time. filled up and noticed gas was spitting out of the breather tube and down into the filler 6 times approximately, drove out of the gas station and the car stalled. restarted and went along. stalled 5 more times on my 2 mile drive home. started the car in the driveway and it stalled 3 more times. started researching on line and found multiple forums about this issue. wanted to submit my issue to others, being day 4 owning this car/ issue. *tr

Running low on gas on january 15th i stopped at a gas station to refuel. i purchased 91 octane, placed the nozzle in the gas tank tube and began to refuel. once the pump clicked i replaced the gas nozzle, tightened the gas cap, started the car and drove off. less than two minutes later as i was approaching a stop light the engine shuts off and the oil light comes on. i quickly placed the gear in park, and attempted to restart the engine. after trying three times it finally turns over and i am able to drive off. one minute later it shuts off again as i am beginning to make a right turn into a driveway. same scenario as before. now every time i fill the tank to the point where the gas nozzle clicks the engine will shut off multiple times within the first 10 miles of driving. *tr

After filling my gas tank without topping off, my car stalls within the first 300 feet of the gas station and is then hard to start. once it's restarted, for the next 40-60 miles of driving, my car hesitates and will often stall at any low speeds or stops unless i drop it into neutral and rev it up. 60-100 miles after a full tank, the car will buck when coming out of a turn and then stall if i let off the gas. *tr

Vehicle stalled shortly after filling fuel tank in december, 2013. restarted immediately, but stalled again, and continued stalling for the next mile or so. now, every time i get gasoline, i must use caution for the first few miles, as the car will stall at random times. i do not "top off" the tank when filling. *tr

Car stalls shortly after filling up. *tr

Filled car with gas. pulled away from station and car stalled multiple times at stops and low speed turns. no warning, no lights, no sound, no pm, just dead. restart easy. stalled about 5 times in 2 miles then behaved. has happened many times after fill-up now i idle and wait for short time and hope for the best. have even shortfill tank before auto click. one scary incident after short fill, car stalled upon entering highway. stalled causing power stirring issue making it very difficult to pull to side of road. . car behind followed and almost rear ended my car. must find fix! *tr

Filled up my tank and drove about a quarter of a mile and it just died when i came to a stopped. dealer said if it happens again i would have to change the evap canister and the. fuel tank. have not done that. i removed the gas cap and it seems to be ok for now. i have to have it diagnosed later. *tr

Right after i fill up the car stalls more than once. today in the middle of the intersection then on the entry to the highway. i know that there are 200,000+ complaints on the internet and los angeles times has made a report about this. we need a recall before some dies. *tr

Car stalled while idling in gear, restarted car and it again died after 30 seconds of idling. restarted once again and car stalled while accelerating at about 15 mph. stalls frequently happen after refueling. *tr

Just bought the car, filled up the fuel tank at gas station and went for a drive. at the first stop light i came to the car stalled while slowing down to stop coasted to a stop and restarted the engine after a few attempts, resumed driving and it was driving ok got onto the on-ramp to drive on the highway and it stalled again while merging into traffic same problem occurred several times until the fuel level went down after driving. *tr

When car has just been filled up it begins to stall. it will stall pulling out of the gas station. then it will stall again while driving on the way back to the house turning corners, at stop lights or just driving straight. it does not make any loud noises it just cuts off while driving. it only seems to happen the first day or two after filling up. (i do not drive very far) then it drives normal until the next time the car gets filled up. then the car will stalls again. *tr

After filling the fuel tank to full and driving away from the station it will stall. sometime right away from leaving the pump or shortly thereafter. usually about the time it takes to get to the intersection near the gas station. if i am careful to not fill it past 3/4 full its ok. although i have had issues with it restarting at 1/2 tank now. *tr

Every time i fill up the car with gas it hesitates and stalls immediately after i pull away from the pump. if i do not fill up - it never happens. at the dodge dealership - i have been told i need a new evaporation canister and fuel tank as recommended by chrysler. i have done some research and the issue appears over multiple dodge/ chrysler models. yet there seems there is no recall or service bulletin on this issue. original owner. *tr

Without warning, the car shuts down. this first occurred at a red light. the car just shut off unexpectedly and i was able to turn the key and restart it without problems. the engine shuts off while at a stop, while driving at lower speeds, while driving at high speeds, in town driving, highway driving, when it's hot outside, when it's cool outside, when idling. there are no dashboard lights (engine, oil, etc). there are no sounds, no shuddering, no kicking. my only indication that the car has suddenly turned off is that the tach needle goes immediately to zero. i have been able to use the momentum of the vehicle to pull off the road at which time i turn the key to off, wait a moment, and turn it back on. it restarts without problems. if i try to restart too quickly, there seems to be a hesitation in starting. we have attempted to repair many parts on the vehicle but it has not cured the problem.*jb

Car dies after fill up.they say only fix is to replace fuel tank. i feel dodge should replace as warranty work because this is a safety issue.. dodge knows of this problem and if there is an accident because car stalls i feel they are liable. *js

Post fill up at local service station engine started cutting out then the check engine light came on. luckily the wife was close to house and she made it back home. i pulled code p0300 which is a random misfire detected as per chrysler specs. verifying all plugs were in good working order by pulling two at a time. i reset the pcm by disconnecting the battery and pulling fuse #11 under the hood. the check engine light turned off and the problem was gone. since the incident i have felt unsafe putting my wife and kids in the vehicle. post fill up a week later same thing. i performed the same steps to remedy the problem. i do not feel i have received bad gas as my whole subdivision (2,600 homes) utilizes this local service station. the 2005 dodge magnum rt has been pampered and all scheduled maintenance performed. *tr

2005 dodge magnum rt (5.7l v8) stalls immediately after filling up with gas. as soon as i begin to drive the car stutters then stalls. this will happen 2-3 times before running normal. only resolution so far is to not fill the car past 3/4 full, which is a definite inconvenience. based on research, there is a faulty sensor in the fuel tank that needs to be replaced. *tr

My car had been stalling after i would fill the fuel tank. first time was exiting gas station off the nj turnpike and my 2005 magnum stalled. i was almost rear ended by a tractor trailer. another time i had just filled up and pulled out of station to make a turn for which the vehicle stalled once again. i took it to my mechanic who then in turned told me it was a bad fuel flow control valve, which is located in the gas tank. the price to replace the the gas tank would be between $1100-$1300 and is only way to resolve solution.

Stalls after filling gas tank, 2 to 5 times, coming to a stop, just driving. need to restart. *tr

I have had at least 3 of the issues of the complaints i am seeing here and wondering why there has been no recalls issued: 1) car would not accelerate or it would die after filling up the gas tank. went on line and found others having similar problem. fix: do not fill your gas tank up all the way and also do not let it get too close to empty. 2) neither the back hatch or the hood will stay up on their own. have been hit in the head with the back hatch numerous times - sometimes it works. 3) could not get car out of park. again went on line and even found a youtube video explaning how to remove the pink thingy from the gear counsel and all will be ok. saved hundreds of dollars but now no safety due to the fact that car can be turned off in all gears. *tr

2005 dodge magnum rt, 5.7 hemi engine. car stalls single or multiple times without warning, sometimes for several miles, after refueling. stalling without warning occurs while car is moving or turning. condition appears more pronounced at lower temperatures and when engine has not yet reached operating temperature. no codes set during episodes. episodes unexpected, without warning, intermittent, and dangerous in traffic. cause appears to be fuel tank control valve failure in fuel tank assembly leading to raw fuel contamination of purge canister. liquid fuel appears to be entering evaporative emissions control system (on-board vapor recovery system) with fuel entering engine upon activation of purge solenoid, resulting in rich condition leading to stalling. *tr

No accident involved, not sure what caused the problem but car stalls when gas tank is filled and pump automatically shuts off. solution has been to manually pump gas til it get to the full line stop. *tr

Filled the car up at the gas station and drove about a mile down the highway to neighborhood. pulled into neighborhood and car stalled. restarted after a few minutes then died aft first corner. car stumble a few more time before i reached my driveway. this has happened multiple times. i can no longer fill my car all the way up. if i fill tank more than 3/4 full car will stall and die. *tr

After filling up the tank with regular 87 octane and traveling less than a mile the vehicle stalled. i would restart the vehicle and it would stall again several times until about 10-15 miles it would subside. i realized after several fill ups there must be a correlation so i took my 2005 v8 magnum into the dealership. the dealership stated that it would cost between 1,500 to 2 grand to evaluate and fix the problem which they thought had to do with the fuel tank. since i could not afford the repair cost the only remedy was to stop short of filling up the tank. no stalls occurred if i would fill up the tank 3/4. this went on for several years until one day i was distracted and filled the tank up 100%. it did not stall at low speeds but when i got on the highway stalled at 55 leaving me in an unsafe situation (not having control of the steering wheel). fortunately i was strong enough to manipulate the steering wheel to the side of the highway. i was fearful to begin again at high speeds so i placed my flashers on and traveled several miles at 35 mph with several stalls to follow. now it is may of 2014 and the dealership has no warranty or recall noticed on this vehicle. *tr

After filling the fuel tank i started the car and drove about 300 feet and the engine stalled. stopped car and restarted it, drove another 600 feet to a red signal light and car stalled again. this happened five more times that day on the way home, ( about 25 miles ) by then it wasn't stalling anymore. it didn't happen again till i refilled the fuel tank and the stalling started all over again.this time i had to have it towed. after that i did some research on the computer and found other people had the same problem with this vehicle after they filled the fuel tank. since then i only fill tank 3/4 full and have not had any stalling problems. pain in the ass when i go on long trips !! *tr

Car stalls after fueling. this has been going on for several years. the car was bought new and the problem did not start until 2011. car taken to the dealer several times and they could not find anything wrong because there were no error codes. back to the dealer in november 2013 and was told at that time that a new fuel tank was needed. the tank replacement was chrysler's recommendation. the tank was replaced at a cost of almost $2000.00. *tr

2005 dodge magnum sxt awd filled vehicle with 89 octane gas from speedway on several occasions car would stall upon leaving the parking area to enter into traffic and then would restart after several attempts. *tr

My dodge magnum r/t, 2005, periodically stalls for the first several miles after a fill-up. this was sporatic at first, but now happens with nearly every fill-up. normally it will be a momentary event while under power, but if i am stopped and idling the engine will die. it will typically restart right away. *tr

2005 dodge magnum r/t has developed a huge fuel leak behind the tank at the junction of the fuel filler tube; evidently the hot plastic seal around the filler tube is failing and is going to cost me $1100.00 to fix. i have never had a fuel tank fail and am %&:?# ticked off. i feel that i should not have to pay for a new fuel tank after only 100,000 miles. i have a buick with well over 532,000 miles with not a single fuel tank issue. to me this a factory defect that nobody has picked up on. *tr

Magnum 5.7l rt awd..... stalls repeatedly after gas tank fill-up. takes about 5 minutes of running before engine runs normally. extremely dangerous when driving in heavy traffic. dealer says they can find nothing wrong (ie no error codes). internet search locates many others who have same problem and same dealer response, but indicate that it is a fault of the gas tank emissions components. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. the contact stated that he was unable to fuel the vehicle to its capacity or the vehicle would intermittently stall while driving. the dealer informed the contact that the vent valve failed and advised him to replace the fuel tank. the manufacturer was aware of the failure, but did not offer any assistance since there were no recalls associated with this failure. the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 92,000. the vin was unavailable.

From approximately august 2008 through august 2013, vehicle would stall at low speeds after filling fuel tank. replaced fuel tank in august 2013, which corrected the issue. in response to nhtsa action number pe13016, chrysler extended the fuel tank warranty on some 2005 and 2006 dodge magnum vehicles. my vehicle, which was manufactured during this time period and seemingly had the same issue as the affected vehicles, is not covered under chrysler's warranty extension. chrysler seems to have made a decision that will allow unsafe vehicles not covered under their warranty to continue to operate on the road. *tr

I was driving the 2005 dodge magnum today and i pushed the accelerator to the floor to avoid a collision. the accelerator would not stop accelerating until it hit about 6000 rpms. i braked, and it had no affect on the increasing speed. i had to shift to neutral and then back to drive to get control of the accelerator was an unnerving experience. the local dealer 's shop said this was due to carbon build up in the bitterly. this car has 45,000 miles on it. if that is the result of carbon build up prepare for more complaints such as this one . this could have been a life threatening situation. when you stand on the brakes and the car goes faster something is plain wrong. *ak

Beginning about april 2007 (i bought the car new in june 2004), i began having a problem after every refueling - the car stalls out while driving. it takes 3 or 4 attempts at restart, then starts, only to stall within 5 minutes or so of more driving. this has happened many times, and my car has been to the dealer 3 times and it will not misbehave for the dealer. it seems that it only happens when the car is below 1/4 tank at refueling, so i have avoided problems by filling up before that point. however, i tested it today, drove it below 1/4 tank, refueled, and it did it again. note - i only use the appropriate grade gas and only chevron - never any other brand. i never top off. i have asked the dealer to check the fuel filter, fuel delivery system, to no avail. they insist that the "computer says its fine" this is a dangerous situation because the car stalls while i am driving, not just idling. *jb

2005, dodge magnum rt, 3800 miles. struck tire tread debris on roadway. broke vehicle fuel line adjacent to exhaust system. vehicle immediately disabled due to engine stoppage. raw fuel spilled on ground. no fire. fuel system is primarily metal with exception of plastic connector at rear where fuel tank joins system. connection needs deflector or guard of some sort if not total redesigned to avoid failure with fuel leak and fire hazard. *ak

While driving 45 mph driver noticed fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. mechanic determined that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. *ak driving on hwy at 60 mph, driver smelled gas. pulled car off road , found fuel leaked from gas tank. mechanic stated road debris was cause of fuel tank rupture. *bf
