Problems with 2010 Dodge Journey SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2010 Dodge Journey starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 46 673 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2010 Dodge Journey

My wife was driving the car and it shut off while driving. the engine and electric system shut off and she could not use the brakes. she had to coast to a parking lot and then it started up again. we have taken it into a mechanic and there is no information on the computer regarding what happened. he cannot diagnose the problem.

Shortly after beginning to drive the car, the traction control light comes on, the steering tightens up and the brakes freeze up. this happens on completely dry roads. this happened 2 times within 1 mile of each time. the first time i almost went through an intersection because i couldn't get stopped, and the second time i almost rear ended a car. i had both of my children who are 7 and 10 in the vehicle. this is not the first time this issue has happened. it happened 6 months ago, and my mechanic said the code was a faulty tpm which was replaced. it then happened a month ago, and the most recent time which was last week. i've been researching this issue and it seems that the dodge journey has had this issue, among others. it seems as if this vehicle needs a complete recall. somebody is going to end up seriously injured or dead. i still owe $10k on my vehicle and cannot afford to buy another and pay this loan. i need to get rid of this vehicle and dodge needs to take responsibility.

Driving along and cut off. no breaks and no steering with my children in the vehicle on the interstate. this issue happened on more than two occasions.

I have a 2010 dodge journey that we have replaced the brake pads at least 3 times since december we have replaced the master cylinder and calipers. the brake continue to heat up and cause issues. we have also replaced both the driver and passenger side brake hoses.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle brakes failed. while driving and depressing the brake pedal the brakes failed to operate smoothly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic testing. the contact stated that the brake pads and rotors were replaced five times in less than two years. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

The rear arms on the tire wheels bent in causing the tires to go completely wore down on the insides. it was hard to see because the middle and outside were fine. it cost $457.00 to repair the garage said this was common. i have therepair records i don't know hoe to send online . if the tires had blown it could have been really bad as i drive 80 miles round trip a day to work. have'nt fixed brakes yet but the rotors are shaking when i hit the brakes

My car is at 71000 miles it will not switch into gears meaning i have to pull over turn car off and back on in hope that it will switch gears. many times that doesn't work. my brake caliber has been replaced and it still is messed up again. yesterday i was riding down road and car just powered off on me for no reason. i could not start it back up after hour it restarted.we checked engine fluid etc everything was good. i waited until end of my shift went and got car to take home. as i began traveling home a power lighting bolt came on in my dash. car shut off again would not start unfortunately i was unable to bare off the road because everything locked up in car. i wish i never purchased this car.

2015 (june) the master cylinder and brake boot were replaced <40000 miles - had vehicle checked out in feb. 2017 before a long trip - was told ok - went to florida (1500 miles from home) esp/bas light came on - called home dealership - was told ok to drive but to have checked out - took to dealership in st. petersburg, fl - braking system replaced - today (april 1, 2017 - eas/bas, brake and traction control lights are all back on again - this is the 3rd time that this vehicle has had a brake light issue since june 2015. tired of spending money over and over again for the same problem with no resolution. this vehicle has been serviced 14 times according to dodge corporate office since it was purchased in april 2010

I have had the rotors, pads, calipers, and master cylinder replaced several times in the past 7 years, more than any other vehicle i have owned in my 45 year lifetime. i have had all of my car's repairs done through sears so the brakes are warrantied. i had the master cylinder replaced in dec. 2016 and now having to turn around and having to replace them again.

We purchased our 2010 dodge journey sxt brand new in october 2010 for 30k (a rip of for sure) - being young, naive and our first brand new vehicle purchase. within 3000 miles, we had to have all of the rotors resurfaced. the brakes have been replaced twice. a full set of tires twice. the car shut off while running three times, almost resulting in horrible accidents (this was due to the ignition issue that *eventually* recalled). the alarm would go off randomly and often without reason. the dealer of course, was unable to replicate the error. so we were left with no other recourse than the remove the fuse, which is totally unsafe but was the only option we had. now, within the past 8 months or so, the battery has been going dead after being left without running for at least two days. the battery has been completely replaced with a brand new battery twice, and a full diagnostic scan was ran on december 22nd when the latest new battery was installed. they found absolutely nothing wrong as to why the battery was draining. now, today, its dead again after two days being left sitting - another full set of brakes was replaced a month ago - and yet another rotor needs to be replaced, as there is no salvaging this one. this car only has 60k miles on it. we have absolutely zero chance with the virginia (where we purchased the vehicle) 'lemon law', as any issues need to be reported within 18 months of the delivery of the vehicle. this vehicle needs to be completely recalled and all the issues need to be fixed by dodge. we're underwater for sure on our loan and at best, we'll only be able to get 3k for a trade in. its a running when it wants to death trap and dodge needs to make this right with their customers. we loved it when we first purchased it, but now we're apprehensive about what else we're going to have go wrong with it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle in addition, the contact stated that the brake pedal hit the floorboard when it was depressed. in addition, the headlights intermittently intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000. updated 02/16/17*lj *cn

The braking system has been a serious problem from the first month of my purchase.car was purchased in 2011, rotors & pads front replaced. every year i replace rotors, pads calipers, even the master cylander. recently an entire team of machanics worked several hours on the car, all were frustrated that they could not correct the brake problems. said they have never seen anything like this before in their experience. cost me $1000.00! another problem showing up is the car just shuts off while driving. this , after the key was recalled and replaced. this has just happened twice.

Dodge journey brake system is undersized for vehicle size and weight. brake pads and rotors are needing full changeout after approx 25k miles. vehicle has less than 60k miles on odometer, and brake system again must be repaired prematurely. i believe this is the reason dodge increased the rotor size on 2011 models.

I have replaced brake pads and rotors numerous times. i have had to have the entire breaking system repaired several times. have spent a lot of money on repairs. brakes should not have to be replaced this often.

In june 2016 i took my car to bettehausen dodge in tinley park, il. they did some repairs and since then the horn goes off by itself. the car can be parked with the motor off or you could be driving in traffic and the horn will blow. i took the car back to bettenhausen in august 2016 they did another computer update and the horn is still going off by itself. the horn was find until i took it to bettenhausen in june. once they finished working on it they horn blows sporadically. again in august 2016 i had my car towed to bettenhausen because the car broke down. upon bettenhausen reviewing my car they stated it was the heater hose, a gasket and the anti freeze bottle had a hole in it. it cost me $582.00 for that repair. the service department also informed me that i needed front and rear motor mounts broken, front and rear struts blown out, front and rear brake pads and rotors warped and worn, right rear wheeling bearing excessive noise. these are major repairs and will cost major money. why didn't bettenhausen inspect my car thoroughly in june when it was towed in? i think these things were wrong with the car in june but it was inspected by the service department. so i drove around for months with all this wrong with my vehicle. what if i couldn't stop, or a wheel fell off while i was driving the expressway? it was under warranty in june and now it is not and these are major safety hazzards.

The vehicle has a 100000+ miles never realized that i would have to change the brakes nearly 30 times in that time frame almost 4 or 5 times a year they shake vibrate i replaced the rotors the calipers shoes and anything to do with brakes including booster and fluid checked the brake pedal and everything they seem to lock up and at once so hot it melted my drivers side hub cap off they locked up in the middle of the freeway and almost caused an accident i feel the breaks are too light for the weight of the vehicle the car is paid for and out of warranty and can't replace the amount of money i paid fixing but is there a recall? has anybody filed a lawsuit?has anybody got hurt injured or even lost there life to these breaks?

We purchased our journey in 2010, as original owners. at about 10k miles we experienced slight shaking while applying breaks on the highway. we took our vehicle to dodge service and they had to replace the rotors. we drive our car very conservatively and now in 2016 we have 36k miles. our car started experiencing the same symptoms. we took the car to dodge service, which confirmed extreme rotor wear and even commented that it was premature wear. i contacted dodge and they refused to replace any parts. in addition, we recently (2016) are experiencing random horn honking. this is indeed a safety issue as proper horn function is a requirement for vehicle registration.

I have had to have the break pads and rotors changed 4 times in the last year. i have read so many complaints regarding the same issue. why is there not a recall?

Brakes will not hold car on a downhill steep grade. while on a city street going down hill a red light ahead. i applied brakes car could not stop with plenty of time to stop i had to roll through the red light.

I have needed to replace the brakes twice with less than 50,000 miles on my car. it could be a danger if they completely fail.

I have been having trouble with my brakes which has been replaced but still grinding noise and squeaky and rotors has been turned. the vehicle has cut off many times, sitting at the traffic light and as getting ready to go and as coming to a stop. it has also cut off as turning and once i realized it i had to try to restart it. it has at times door not unlock and not lock. as putting on brake to come to a stop it shakes. the lights are getting worse they are flickering on and off. outside light goes out and whole dash goes off while driving. i have to keep flicking the lights as i'm driving so they can come back on. the vehicle has many times not start up and just click when trying to start it.

I bought my 2010 dodge journey new after an accident totaled out my previous vehicle. i am a single mom with one vehicle for our family of 4 and thought this would be a good safe vehicle for my family. quite the opposite! i have spent so much money on this car for repairs, have had 2 recall issues (one of which left me and one of my daughters stranded on the side of the road at night), and have also had to replace the brakes, rotor, caliper, more times than i can remember. the last time was in feb. and now my car has already recently started shaking again when i apply the brakes. i have only driven about 9,000 miles since replaced last. this is not a single incident but a repetitive safety issue. i cannot keep up with the extremely high amount of repairs and costs it takes to keep this vehicle safe to drive.

Bkes are able to maintain weight of vehicle they should be up dated to to accept weight of vehicle or manufacturer should buy back these pieces of garbage

Brakes have been a major issue on this vehicle. we have had to replace brakes, rotors and calipers multiple times since the vehicle was purchased not to mention the tires also. the first time they were replaced, the car had less than 36,000 miles. since that time they have been replaced multiple times, with the last time being in the last 30 days. it is like there is some type of design flaw in the braking system, that causes the brakes and tires to both wear out quickly. last night the braking system caught fire on this vehicle, lucky i had just pulled in my parking spot when they started burning and didn't have my children with me. fire department was notified and the fire was put out by them. i have noticed that i am not the only person with the journey that has had brake and tire issues. now i am stuck without any means of transportation thanks to the brakes catching fire (warping rims and melted tires from it). thankfully no one was injured.

This is regards to recall r03 on a 2010 dodge journey. i have been a a recall list for many months. my vehicle twice now has shut off while driving for no reason. after having the car looked at and spending money i don't have, it was determined it was due to this recall. i have made calls to the dealer and to chrysler. all i am told is these parts are on restriction and they are sorry but they can not help me to get this taken care of at this time. why is chrysler not concerned about the safety of it's drivers. if this had happened while my son was driving he could have been seriously injured or even killed. what will it take for them to get this taken care of? when i am able to afford another car it will not be a chrysler product of any kind.

Breaks have to be replaced at least every 2 months. my car continues to overheat and we have the thermostat 5 different times. we have to keep turning the key off and on til the car decides to start. i have contacted the people about this and they keep telling me that there is no recall for my vin number. it needs to be added because it is obviously an issue with more than just my car. i will contact an attorney because now that it is out of warranty they tell me i will have to pay to have the issues resolved the start issue is of course stationary the break problem is while driving and so is the over heating issue was driving down the road heard a scraping noise and the front bumper was talking off and the bumper bar was loose. these are apparently very dangerous cars and all should be recalled

We cannot shift our car out of "park" while the car is on. instead we have to take these steps: insert keys into ignition, then slightly turn to the right (but not turning the car on) as the electric system turns on, then shift out of "park" and into "neutral," and then while in "neutral" turn the car to the right until it turns on and is ready for driving, then shift into "drive," all of this while my foot is on the "brake." our esp & bas lights are on every minute the car is on, and above these is a lit up picture of a car w/ squiggly lines below it. we have taken the car to autozone, o'reilly's auto parts, interstate all battery center, and wal-mart, and had the car hooked up to their system that ready codes/errors and determines what is wrong with the car. every single place could not get a reading that indicated any reason for the lights being on. in fact, all results kept coming back as, "no errors found." when we called to explain this to the chrysler jeep dodge ram dealership, they could not tell us any reason as to why these light would be on, and advised that it would cost $100 to hook up to their error-reading system. i do not want to do this because i have already tried at several places. this is another way for the dealership to reel me in and try to scam money out of me and then when i don't have thousands to constantly drop on this piece of crap, they charge me the diagnostic fee and i leave with more problems than i came with. these dealerships are a scam, and because i'm female, they try to get me to pay for every repair possible, claiming they are critical repairs. we just bought this car last year, & we were not offered an extended warranty. i know why now. 1 month after driving it off the lot, problems began & thousands of dollars later, we still have non-stop problems. our car is worth half of what we paid for it 1 yr ago. now there's this!

I have a 10 dodge journey awd r/t , i am also a ase certified mechanic. my wife drives this thing easy.. no matter what brand of rotors or pads i use the problem comes back.. the problem i see is, the brakes are not up to par, basically to small for this vehicle.. the rotors should have been at least 1 to 1.5 inches larger in dia.

The interior lights stays on for a long period of time when i start and after shutting down the suv. the interior lights go out about 15 minutes or so after turning the suv off. once i start the suv and drive, the interior light remains on in the front & upper rear overhead. the electronic key is now locking my doors just from touching the top of the key. there are times, i'm not hitting the button to lock, but just from touching the top of the key with my finger, the doors will automatically lock.scary!!! the steering wheel shakes visibly when braking. updated 8/28/15*cn updated 10/26/2017*cn

As of 5/22/2015 vehicle has 37727 miles. chrysler issued in 3/2011 an extended warranty citing premature brake and rotor wear. cars front rotors and brakes were replaced on 8/7/2013 - 27581 due to excessive vibration in front axle during braking. on 10/24/2013 - 28170 rear rotors had to be resurfaced due to sever vibration in rear axle. on 5/22/2015 - 37727 front brakes were replaced and front rotors were resurfaced because of excessive vibration in front axle during braking. vibrations are severe at highway speed and could cause loss of control.

My steering started to vibrate excessively and then the brakes started to get hot, it sounded as if i was running over the bumps on the side of the road that warn drivers they are about to leave the road; however, i was no where close to them. they eventually stuck and began to smoke. i stopped the car and left it in a parking lot so that it would not burn to the ground if i decided to drive it. both driver and passenger side rotor and caliber were changed and i am still having problems with the brakes sticking. *tr

While driving my vehicle on a long distance road trip, which i do quite often, the steering wheel began to vibrate as i was decreasing the speed from 65 miles per hour. i have since had my tires replaced and the tpms on one of my wheels became corroded. the problem still persisted. i had my back brakes replaced, the problem still persisted. i had my wheels aligned, the problem still persisted. my mechanic is currently replacing the axle along with my front brakes. hopefully, this fixes the problem. my daughter is in college and my family and i will be making 8 hour road trips often. i am financially obligated to this vehicle and need it to service my families needs. dodge needs to ensure that their vehicles are safe and reliable.

This is the second time in a year that we have replaced the rotors on this vehicle. there is currently a tsb on this item. *tr

I was driving at the speed limit on interstate 5, (california) when a vehicle in front of me swerved partially into my lane. in order to avoid hitting said vehicle, i swerved to the right slightly, at that time i believe engine died, as i had no control over said vehicle i could not steer or maneuver my vehicle at all. thus it was continuing on the path of the swerve and hit the wall on the passenger side of the highway. i at no time had any control over the vehicle, the car started spinning from the impact of the wall and sent me across 3 lanes of traffic and i was hit by 2 cars. the only airbag that deployed was the front passenger side airbag. (there was no passenger in that position.) i was in the driver seat, and my son (was 9 years of age at the time of the incident) was sitting directly behind me. when the car stopped, i was unable to remove the key from the ignition, it was locked in place. originally, i believed that there were no major injuries, only bumps, bruises and the like. however in the months since the incident, it has come to light that i have torn muscles in 1, maybe both elbows. i am currently under a doctors care, and will be requiring surgery to reconstruct the muscles and tendons.

I went to the store got what i needed came out and the journey would not start. i had it towed to the dodge dealership and they told me the tipm was bad.they replaced it and has been working so far. it cost 900.00 dollars to fix with only 37424 miles on it.the other problem was the brakes all had to be replaced with just over 20000 miles on the car. the dealership covered the front brakes but with a deductible of 100.00 dollars but i had to pay for the back brakes. *tr

Rear brakes and rotors need to be replaced at 25,119 miles dodge extended the warranty for the front brakes only. cost to replace rear brakes and rotors is $370.00 brakes should not go bad after 25k miles dodge appears to be aware of the problem but refuses to extend the warranty for the rear brakes. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. the contact stated the brakes on the vehicle failed. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 23,000.

Brakes & rotors replaced at under 30.000 miles. now failing again. *tr

I bought this vehicle brand new in 2010 and did not have to change the brakes on it until 2014 - now, i have to change all 4 of the brakes right down to the rotors every year (all 4 pads and rotors changed 2014, 2015, 2016 and now 2017, with calibers changed in 2016 as well)! there is never any squeak from the brakes or other noises or failure to stop until all of a sudden, the brakes grind loudly when used and the vehicle requires a great distance to stop.

I was traveling approx. 65 mph and when i applied the brakes the steering wheel started shaking so bad i nearly lost control of the vehicle. dealer tells me it is caused by worn brakes and rotors. the brakes were changed at 8600 miles, and the current brakes have approx. 18000 miles.the the dealer tells me they will do nothing to correct this problem unless i pay full price for equipment plus labor. wit the low mileage on this set of brakes i feel dealer or dodge should at least furnish the new brakes and rotors. *tr

First our brakes were grinding and had to replace rotors and brakes, next the oil pan leaked, next full battery replacement and now overrated engine and coolant pouring out the bottom!!! no one will help us this car is a lemon and they should be recalled. i have to small children that depend on me having a car. dodge should be ashamed!!! *tr

While driving i was approaching a stop sign and depressed the brake pedal to stop. i kept pressing to stop but the pedal went all the way to the floor and i could not stop. i had to roll through the stop and make a hard right turn. if there was traffic i probably would have had an accident. this is the second time this vehicle had breaking issues after the first event which was aprx 15000 iles ago the dealer said the problem was the master cylinder which they replaced.action should be taken against chrysler before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr

Upon purchase of this vehicle, rotors and brakes needed to be replaced. one year later, brakes again needed to be replaced and now rotors need to be replaced as car shakes when you brake. *tr

I don't even know where to start with this car. i bought this car and have had nothing but problems. the latest issue aside from the constant brakes it the electrical. since i bought the car sometimes it doesn't start, the dash lights come on and off and power drops and comes back on in the car. thank god it has not turned off in traffic. there has been a noise from the wheels forever and now its getting louder. i wish that dodge would fix these issues!! all electrical should be check immediately in these cars because as i read others issues it is very dangerous and it seems they are waiting for reports of accidents and death before taking any action. this is ridiculous!!! *tr

Roy's dodge in grand island, ne would not cover the cost of the premature brake and rotor problem on my car. vehicle begin having metal grinding noise from rear brake area and then front brake area. vehicle shakes violently when applying brakes. fix for the problems was new front and rear brakes and turn rotors. i had told them i was aware of the issues they have been having and all of the complaints, however it got me nowhere. i contacted dodge and spoke with a very friendly lady who recognized this was a problem with this model and year. she contacted the dealership and asked them to work with my on taking care of some of the repair costs due to only having 33,700 miles on the vehicle and this being an issue. they refused to do anything to help with the cost. i was forced to pay to replace the brakes and rotors totally out of pocket ($488)! after doing more research and speaking to other journey owners i guess i should be prepared to do this all over again in 7000-9000 more miles. dodge needs to make a recall and make the situation right with their customers who spent a lot of money on their product!!! *tr

Came off highway, stopped at post office, smelled like something burning. left post office 2 minutes later, no smell. drove 1/2 mile home, parked in garage, walked around car to get out of garage, felt extreme heat from rear passenger wheel. brake disc was glowing red. pulled car out of garage, towed to performance dodge (where purchased brand new) brake caliper had locked up. had all replaced. this is the same car i have complained about not starting, bright lights coming on by themselves. i have had it towed, waited for an hour for it start, pulled off the highway in tears because the "strobe light effect" when the bright lights(high beams) act up. i have had the steering angle sensor replaced in aug 2012, recall l25 trim ring-ignition key cylinder done, i paid to have the wireless ignition node module replaced on january 6, 2015 at performance dodge dealership in lincoln nebraska (thought would fix starting issue-did not help) paid to have rear brakes replaced, paid for rental vehicle. i have complained to dodge corp. i have complained to performance dodge dealership. now i get the recall for the win module and will have to fight to be reimbursed. i have the original papers and invoice from performance dodge. any chance of being reimbursed for a piece of junk car, rental cars and the like?????

Vehicle was running and suddenly lost all electrical power. car was moved to shoulder of roadway and i turned the engine off. the engine didn't want to restart. when engine did restart car ran normal for about 1 month. this has happened about 5 times from 6/13 to 10/14. dealer can not find the problem. ignition is not on recall list for this particular vin. i had dealer replace ignition on 10/14 and had to purchase two additional keys because the old keys could not be programmed to the new ignition switch. *tr

I have owned this journey for little over 2 yrs now and have had 8 sets of brakes and rotors put on. tie rods have always been known to go bad on any and all dodges and the tires have been replaced 3 times now as well. sued dodge once already after trying to lemon law this pos. is it going to take a family such as mine dying to make dodge fix this problem. we people cannot afford to spend 300-500 every few months to get brakes and rotors fixed. pay a ton of money for a vehicle and shouldn't have to fix something as simple as brakes and rotors because these so called smart engineers couldn't figure out that the same brakes and rotors off of a dodge avenger shouldn't be put on a dodge journey 7 passenger vehicle. our government should close these kinda places down before we people decide to do it ourselves because next time my brake and rotors need replaced i am driving it back to dodge where i got it and they aren't gonna like me and the news will be with me as well. what they should have to do for our inconveniences is give us all brand new cars comparable to ours now or a new dodge journey with the new brakes and rotors on them because i have seen them and the brakes and rotors are much much bigger than the teeny tiny ones i got on my car. but that would be too easy because they want us to spend our hard earned money because we have no choice and when we try and trade it in they bone us because they know its worth crap. *tr

Went to have my brakes inspected due to a screeching sound. the sound at 1st lasted about 2 weeks. by the time i made it to the brake shop it of course stopped. upon inspection of the braking system we were told that in 3 more days the brakes would have went out. we do not drive hard or ever have to stop fast. my husband & i learned that the brake system has an known issue with the brake shop.. we were told the brakes will screech & then stop working if not fixed right away! that's very scary as we don not want to crash & kill someone or our selves. the brake system failed starting with the calipers & was rubbing in the pad causing extreme wear & is was said the manufactured brake are not made to stop a vehicle so heavy as ours. and for that reason we were told to file a complaint. i called dodge & was told the warranty has expired & we would had to pay for it on our own. also when we bought the dodge in 2010 brand new the alignment was off & was pulling to the right. after having the alignment & brakes repaired for a second time in under 2years it is clearly an issue with the brake system. this time it will cost us $575.00 to repair just the brake system.. this needs to be recalled asap! before someone is hurt or killed!! and dodge should own up to this issue! in addition the a/c has a loose connection & will stop blowing for no reason. and other issue to deal with in hot weather! *tr

Everything first started about 4 months after purchase with the sensor lights randomly coming on while i was driving. i have replaced brakes and rotors 4 times. but the problems within the last 4 months have been the worst. my car will not start all the time very unreliable. i have had to replace the starter twice the battery two starter modules and the ignition and still doesn't work. as soon as it's possible i will get rid of this car and never again as long as i live will never purchase another chrysler product. they are junk!!!! *tr
