We have classified the 497 complaints from 2010 Dodge Journey about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Stopped at store for a few minutes to pick some things up. upon getting back in the car, it would not crank nor start. after a few minutes, it started up like nothing had happened. issue has occurred again about a week and a half after the first occurrence. this is a walk-home condition that needs to be addressed. issue is similar to numerous other complaints filed with nhtsa, as well as posted online. *tr
My vehicle was parked in my driveway and the horn beep once. a few hours later i went beeped again. the next day it started beeping continually, and i had to remove the fuse to stop the horn from blowing. i replace the fuse and had no problems for about a month. then while on vacation in myrtle beach the horn started blowing no stop. i had to remove the fuse again. when i replaced it the horn started blowing again. i have since removed the fused and tried disconnecting the battery. the horn still continues to blow non-stop.
Sometimes the vehicle won't start. it is in the dealership again today. this is the 4th time in the past 2 months. dodge can't figure it out. they have been trying but to no avail. we have figured out if you wiggle the gear shift the car will start after a little while. hopefully dodge will check the sensors in the gear shift during this visit. it is getting old having to keep taking the car back in the shop. dodge has been great with working with us but we still have the problem. *tr

Driving at 15 mph all of a sudden panel lights turned off, speed and rpm indicators turned off, air conditioner off, power windows would not work. turn signals, headlamps and brake lamps did not work. engine was still on so i pulled to the side and restarted the car a few times until all power was restored. *tr
While sitting in traffic my car cut off and wouldn't start up again i just recently took my car to pep boys auto and the diagnostic test prove that the ignition switch is stuck in park which caused the starter to go out as well. *tr

Dodge journey 2010 - out of the blue begins honking -can honk just once or a series of stutter honks followed by a long blast, then beeps or series of beeps. it is not the alarm, it happens when car is in park with no one and nothing in the car or as you are driving down the street, with hands on the rim of the steering wheel. fellow drivers are not amused and use middle fingers salute. unlocking the car does nothing, turning on the ignition does not stop the honking, remote starting does not stop the honking, starting and putting in gear doesn't stop the horn when it is honking, using the panic button and then resetting it does not stop the honking but, one can not make it happen, there is no specific trigger to replicate the difficulty. happens in full sun, warm but parked in shade, warm but driving down the street, braking has no effect, happens at night cool, at night rainy, at night humid in park ignition off, ignition on (still parked) and ignition on, in gear and moving. did i mention 60 days out of warranty. *tr
The ignition switch in the car gets "loose" over time. this causes the key to move to a different postion, when this happens all electrical goes out or goes on/off in rapid succession. i can jiggle the key and can get the electrical to work again. at best, this is very distracting and i take my eyes off the road. at worst i have lost electrical components such as the cruise control while driving the dealer has replaced the part 2 times. note - nancy nelms is the owner of record and this complaint is on file with chrysler. *tr
Have had all kind of "sensor" problems horn blows at all times have taken to shop 4 times all brake sensor lights came on back in may also bob pforte dodge in marianna, fl. 32446 can not seem to be able to fix put on one sensor to see if that would stop horn from blowing did not and then my cruise control knob fell off from where they put in sensor took back put on another sensor did not fix took back and they had failed to reprogram after putting on that sensor jeff the service manager told me when i called back about it that they would compensate if this did not fix last week horn started blowing again!!!! 7/22/14 took back today and they are having to keep it overnight lady called me asking if the key fob was the one i had been using i told her that when this first started i started using my spare because i thought maybe the other one was going out we have to pull the fuses every time to keep the horn from seranading the community horn blows while in the yard while not running, while running and driving it may go beep beep beep or sound off for hours i want something done hope someone will tell bob pforte how to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First our brakes were grinding and had to replace rotors and brakes, next the oil pan leaked, next full battery replacement and now overrated engine and coolant pouring out the bottom!!! no one will help us this car is a lemon and they should be recalled. i have to small children that depend on me having a car. dodge should be ashamed!!! *tr

While driving the car at relatively slow speed, the instrument panel seemed to "reset" and all the gauges temporarily went off and came back on. it hasn't done it again, but after reviewing other complaints, it appears this is happening more often as these model years begin to age. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 dodge journey. while driving, the vehicle lighting, horn, and alarm engaged independently. the failures were experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to two unknown dealers for diagnostic testing, but an electrical failure code was unable to be produced. the contact replaced the battery himself in an attempt to correct the failure; however, it was not corrected. the contact recently took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a failure in the steering wheel ignition area. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 48,000.
While driving down the road at highway speed. the vehicle shut off. first time thought it was a fluke. but has since gotten progressively worse. to the point where it getting to be unpredictable and unsafe to all in the vehicle or on the road. seen other styles of this same vehicle have recalls for same type of issues. called chrysler corp for variation. found out my vehicle was made in time frame of others in that period. but is not included. believe this needs to be looked into more. before something terrible happens to my family or i. *tr
Like most of the people posting, i have also experienced the same issues. my journey will often times not start on the first, second, third or fourth try. at times it takes 1 minute to start, at other times it takes an hour or more. additionally, i have experienced the very concerning random honking. it happens when the car is turned off, driving down the road or just stopped at a red light. the honks can last anywhere from 1 second to minutes worth of intermittent beeps. this is by far and away the absolute worst car i have ever purchased. *tr
I have been having problem with my doors unlocking. i thought it was the key-less remote needing a battery or the car need a new battery, changed both and that wasn't it. the only door that would open was the driver's side. sometimes all the door will open , then once it opens it will not open again until, maybe a week from then, a month. it just opens when it wants. i have to lean over to open the other doors when i get in. i took it to the dealership and i was told that i need another computer module, but they coudln't find anything wrong with it so that had to be the problem. no one has $600 for that tpn part. i think this should be looked onto. *tr

The vehicle would not start after sitting for a few hours. we had driven the vehicle all day. we have had this issue before but when using the backup key. thought maybe this was the issue it was not. i used the keys my wife uses every day. this is becoming a big issue now. when it was intermittent and would start it was ok but it is becoming more frequent. we live in a rural area and my wife drives 40 minutes to work every day. if this issue happens when she is at work there will be nothing we can do about it. i am paying alot of money for this vehicle and need chrysler to figure out what this problem is and issue a recall as i can see that i am not the only one with this issue. it is gonna end up costing me alot of money i don't have. i will be honest if they cant fix the issue i will not be able to pay for towing and will not be able to make the payments if this issue is not resolved and i have to pay to have it looked at. i have an extended warranty on the vehicle which is up in 3000 miles. at 200 miles back and forth to work and running 2 teenage kids around that will not be long, chrysler needs to figure out this issue now before someone gets killed. where my wife works is not the best part of town and it is all expressway driving at high speeds. if this issue turns into the stalling on the highway she could easily be killed in rush hour driving. i am not the only one with this problem. fyi had the brakes done too. funny since it is all highway driving. *tr
When trying to start vehicle when i turn key over to start vehicle will make a clicking sound but does not start also had to remove fuses for horn because horn would randomly go off even when vehicle was not running or horn button was not pushed. this problem has happened consistently since 2014. it has been in the shop around 10 times but the problem is never resolved.

Since december while driving the vehicle all of a sudden the radio, blinkers and front/back and head lights turn off. i literally have to pull the vehicle over and turn the car off and re-start the engine till it happens again and have to do the samething. i took it to the dealership where we just purchased the vehicle two weeks prior and they stated it was only a fuse. it constantly still happens which is a serious safety issue especially with children in the vehicle. it also takes sometimes 3-5 tries to start the car. *tr

On numerous occasions, my 2010 dodge journey looses wipers, radio, air conditioning, heat lights and on two occasions the motor shuts off. both times on an interstate highway. very scary! i had all my grandchildren with me on one occasion. my dealership told me to jiggle the key to make it stop. that was there "easy fix". *tr
The car lights do not work turned on manually or automatic. when it first started it was very intermittent, currently it's almost daily. i have had it to 2 different dealerships (before and after warranty). both times i have been told they cannot find anything wrong and i need to bring it in when it happens. my response "you are not open when it happens, it's dark". i have also had it to my mechanic multiple times and got bless his sole he found the problem this past weekend. i did not have it fixed he said it will probably be somewhere need 1200.00. he also told me that this is a major defect and should be fixed via a recall. i did look that up and there are multiple complaints but no recall. my son currently drives the car and is away at college which poses all sorts of issues. we have a short term solution we figured out that if you unplug the battery and plug it back in the lights reset, not very convenient. my mechanic also suggested rewiring the high beams to the regular lights but then you wouldn't have high beams.

I was struck on the left front by a 1997 dodge stratus occupied by 5 teenage boys. the damage was bumper and left fender (insurance estimate about $3,000. but the battery was placed on top of the engine by the manufacturer. the battery was the original battery installed on car. no engine repair had been done on the vehicle. the battery exploded and the engine was covered by battery acid which destroyed all the wiring in the engine. battery acid also went down the driver's side of the car destroying paint and eating into metal. two adjusters examined the car as the insurance was amazed at amount of destruction. they each stopped at $11,000 damage and totaled the car. i was told that had any glass been broken and i got battery acid on my body, the damage would have been severe. a mechanic at the scene said the battery placement was very dangerous as was said by insurance adjusters and repair service where the car was towed. i called the dealership and dodge itself and reported the problem. they both said they never had heard of any problem. i walked away unhurt but could have driven the car for the rest of my life (i'm 73) had the battery been placed in a different spot in the engine. i believe this battery placement to be very dangerous and am concerned for others who might have an accident in a car like mine. *tr

My first complaint is that if my husband or myself accidentally hit the ignition switch while the car is in motion the car will shut off. in addition if this happens before we start driving the car will shut off and the dash board, the center console and the ac will all shut off. i have informed dodge of this problem twice and have not gotten any correspondance in return. during the second call i was informed that if i did not have a recall notice sent to me that my car is not apart of any active recalls and therefore they cannot do anything for me. secondally, just recently on 10/16/2014 while i was trying to take my 7 year old son to the er, my car would not start. i thought it could be the battery, but the lights and everything else was working. after several attempts and after me tapping the ignition switch the car finally started. everything in the car comes on however, the car makes a clicking noise and does nothing else. a week later it did the same exact thing on 10/22/14. i looked online and all behold there are several complaints going back to 2009 there are also youtube videos. my question is why is dodge not being held responsible for there negligence, cleary there is a known issue. what tragedy has to happen before dodge does something to resolves these issues for their customers. i would also like to add that the dodge journey is by far the worst car that dodge has ever produced! *tr

I purchased a used journey from nissan morrow ga, a week or two i began having problems, first time i was leaving and the car did not start so they towed the result i needed a battery so i changed it lwhen leaving work at night i get a block or two away and the car stalls at least twice a month and tonight taking my co-worker to the train it cut off. *tr
I don't even know where to start with this car. i bought this car and have had nothing but problems. the latest issue aside from the constant brakes it the electrical. since i bought the car sometimes it doesn't start, the dash lights come on and off and power drops and comes back on in the car. thank god it has not turned off in traffic. there has been a noise from the wheels forever and now its getting louder. i wish that dodge would fix these issues!! all electrical should be check immediately in these cars because as i read others issues it is very dangerous and it seems they are waiting for reports of accidents and death before taking any action. this is ridiculous!!! *tr
Ignition key goes into the off position which depowers all electrical components, ie...radio, air/heat, signals, power windows, wipers, dashboard. problem has been continuous every since recall issue has been supposedly fixed by dealership after safety recall. sometimes causes car to not start on first try, have to try 2-3 times before car will actually start but problem persist while driving at least 1-2 times each time i am driving my vehicle. *tr
Tried starting my 2010 dodge journey after work one evening and it wouldn't start. got a boost to my battery and it didn't work, the vehicle stalled 3 times in one day. after looking on line i saw numerous people has the same issue. came across the solenoid crank starter fuse replaced, and to my surprise the issue was fixed until a week. at the apple orchard with a car full of people and my car wouldn't start! finally got my car to an auto parts store, and thought possibly i had a bad sensor and got that replaced. my car is still having the same issue, and it starts right away in the a.m. everyday for a week in the mornings it starts but stalled after i picked my son up from school and was stuck there for two hours! i don't know what to do, i googled the problem and its sad how many people are dealing with the same problem. and i thought i was getting a good reliable car for my family.. i purchased this vehicle february 2013, someone please help. *tr
Vehicle would not crank out of blue waited few days after being towed to dealer was told no problems w car no codes then car began to crank...week later will not crank. then as driving the car all power cuts off no lights no radio no heat no wipers nothing hour later at a speed of 35 miles an hour car shuts down engine and all. took again to a dealer who put on mobile web pod thing and was told car was reading no error codes but obv a major problem. dodge not willing to pay and car says no recalls yet car cuts off while in gears and sometimes wont crank at all and dealer cannot diagnose to fix problem. *tr
Problem with car notstarting. car would not start all of the vehicle had power but would not start. tow truck driver checked to see if he could start but could not. while standing out side the car it started by itself. took to dealer and they can not repeat problem. notice on line there are many complaints about this happening. i really think somebody should takecare of this. this cost us money for us to look like fools. *tr
Vehicle was running and suddenly lost all electrical power. car was moved to shoulder of roadway and i turned the engine off. the engine didn't want to restart. when engine did restart car ran normal for about 1 month. this has happened about 5 times from 6/13 to 10/14. dealer can not find the problem. ignition is not on recall list for this particular vin. i had dealer replace ignition on 10/14 and had to purchase two additional keys because the old keys could not be programmed to the new ignition switch. *tr

In june of 2013 my car alarm started to come on randomly. first while car was in parked position. days after it then started sounding while driving, leaving my then 6 year olds hysterical. it was happening so much that we took out the fuses. in nov 2014, while entering the interstate exit my car shut off going 35mph around a deep curve. i lost all control of steering and acceleration, brakes locked up. i was able to force steer to shoulder and turn car off and back on. it ran ok until a couple weeks later it did it again. coming home off interstate w/ kids in car, car shut off while going 40 mph in mid curve! now beginning feb 2015, my battery goes dead repeatedly. i've had to have it jumped off almost every morning for last month. i took it to auto store and battery tested good. march 2015, battery going dead again. i've had accredited mechanic look at it who tested everything along w/ relays. he stated battery was good but basically alarm, although it's not heard, its still waking up and drain battery. he couldn't go beyond this point to fix because he believed it's something in computer system? i took to dealer and after i explained everything to them & been without a car for week, they insisted it battery was bad. so we have replaced battery, yet they did not address random alarm/horn. so i took back same day to address this issue b/c it will continue. they now are suggesting to replace horn switch of which after looking at other consumers i don't think will fix the problem. there is something in the cars computer triggering the alarm but for some reason they refuse to check that. i'm not sure if it's just because they can't get as much money from resetting computer or not. i know i don't have money to throw away on trail & error. with all the complaints on this i can't figure out how the dealers/company chrysler dodge jeep doesn't have a solution. *tr
Everything first started about 4 months after purchase with the sensor lights randomly coming on while i was driving. i have replaced brakes and rotors 4 times. but the problems within the last 4 months have been the worst. my car will not start all the time very unreliable. i have had to replace the starter twice the battery two starter modules and the ignition and still doesn't work. as soon as it's possible i will get rid of this car and never again as long as i live will never purchase another chrysler product. they are junk!!!! *tr
We have had several instances where our 2010 dodge journey has failed to start. you put the key in the ignition and everything works fine except that the starter never cranks over. i have done a lot of searching to see if other people have had the same problem. a quick google search returns several accounts of journeys not starting. most of these complaints remain unsolved. there seems to be a problem either with wiring or win modules. we have not taken our vehicle to the dealer yet however today was the 10th time that this problem has arisen in less than three weeks, often leaving us stranded completely for hours. *tr
