Car would vibrate and sputter then the check engine light would come on at 50 mph. first time to the dealership - they put dry gas in the tank (dec/2002) second time to the dealership - they put fuel injector cleaner in the tank (jan./2003) third time to the dealership - they replaced the #4 fuel injector (jan. 2003) fourth time to the delaership - they replaced the computer module (feb./2003) fifth time to the dealership - did not fix, cleared the error codes.(feb. 2003) dealership said that there would be a recal notice sent sometime in march/2003 something about a carbon build up in the cylinders. they told me to keep drivng it until the recall notice comes out, but the car still has the same problem. (engine only has 19,700 miles on it, under 18,500 when it first went in).*jb

2000 dodge engine failure: at 55,000 miles my 2000 dodge intrepid threw a lower rod as i was exiting the expressway after driving approx 10-12 miles. the car is in excellent shape and has an oil change evey 3,000 miles. i had just had an oil change approx 1,000 miles before this happened. i called daimerchrysler and asked them if there was anything that they could assist with etc? they asked if the dealer had torn down the engine. i told them that i had a private diagnosis and the dealer had a tech listen to it and said they were sure a rod had gone bad. they saad to have the dealer tear it down ... they then tried to blame me for not getting the oil changed on a regular basis. i again told them that it had been changed every 3,000 miles and that i own two other cars (95 sillouttte & 97 cutlass) that have 130,000+ miles on them. i took the car to the dealer and paid them 250.00 for a teardown. the dealer (genesee valley dodge in flint, mi) called me and terry schefke (service manager) called to say that it had indeed thrown a rod and that i would need a new short block at a cost of $4.250.00. i again contacted dodge by phone and email. they said that it was my problem because it was out of warranty (3/36). i asked them if an engine failure was normal at 55k? the dealer had his district manager look at the car and i was denied any assistance or compensation. i feel that the engine failure was not at all my fault, i never did get a check engine light or any other warning unti i exited the expressway (i do not speed and have never had a speeding ticket in 25 years of driving) to make matter worse i have to have the dealer reapir the engine because my lease is up omn 3/3/03. i have been online researching the 2.7 dohc engine and located you from www.intrepidclan-510.org. there seems to be an abundace of simular complte engine failures on varoius web sites. basically i am looking for anyone who could possibly help?

Dt*: the contact stated the engine blew while driving on the freeway. this occurred twice. the first incident occurred at 50,000 miles, and the second at 97000 miles. also, the transmission blew at 45000 miles. the engine issue was not oil related. the contact expressed the defect was related the engine. the oil had turned yellow. the contact also expressed that the transmission problems were probably related to the engine problems. there were also some computer problems; the computer was not allowing the rpm's increase properly. the vehicle's computer was repaired by the contact. updated 11/9/2006 - *nm

My car never gave me any signs of burning oil, nor did i have any heater issues or smells. owever, on 05/21/02 i took my car in to spitzer motor city in cleveland for service because i was seeing the engine light. they determined that they needed to replace my pcv valve and gas cap ($24.02 for parts and $149.00 for labor). later, during the month of november 2002 i began seeing my engine light again. i took my car back to the same dealership the car was repaired at, and the mechanic said that if the gas cap is not on tightly it can also cause the engine light to come on, and to make sure it is always on tight. after that, the engine light would come on from time to time, til the day the enigne failed on august 18, 2003 while my husband was driving it. the car was taken to dodge dealership, where it was diagnosed that the engine was shot due to sludge build-up. ( last oil change, may 2003 ). according to a representative from the daimler chrysler service contract help desk, if an estimate for repair is over $5,000, an inspector must be sent to investigate before approving the coverage of any service repairs. unfortunately, the request to pick up the tab was denied, with still one more month of warranty coverage left and 63,000 plus miles later. the only thing that i received from this was a reference number from the daimlerchrysler customer assistance center on sept 16th, 2003, and over $12,000 left in instalments. thats all ! *ak

2001 dodge intrepid, 2.7 liter, bought in july 2001 from dodge and was a one person owner. it had, when we bought it, 28,000 and still under factory warrenty. we bought the extended warrenty of 100,000 7years. engine tapping, took to the dodge dealership and was blamed on not changing our oil properly. had to get it fixed. we took it to a mechanic that worked on it enough to were we could drive it and at the time thought it was fixed for good. come to find out this was only a temp fix. at the time we were not aware of the all the problems the 2.7 liter engines were having. just recently started having problems with it again and this time it is so bad we cannot drive it. dodge refused to honor their warrenty and me as a customer am of the opion that this is wrong. it is my understanding that crysler/dodge have admitted to the problem and modified the engine. well, if they admitted to the problem they should be fixing their cars.

2001 dodge intrepid- 60,000 miles still under warranty engine blew. engine full of sludge. chrysler refuses to pay for a new engine. this is not an isolated case. log on to chrysler complaints and read all the complaints. obvious defect in this car, but no one wants to admit to it. *jb
