Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

My van has had electrical type issues since we purchased it, but in the last couple years they have imagnified. every issue starts with the car smoking and some sort of light coming on (engine, battery etc..) many times i take it in and the dash light is no longer illuminated or they can not find anything wrong with it and reset the electrical panel. i have replaced the battery numerous times, alternator three times (last time it was completely burnt out and the time before it was completely melted). transmission lines and coolant lines. the last time my headlights were replaced the wires were charred and frayed. last night my son was pulled over by the police because the officer noticed the car was smoking. he popped the hood to let the smoke clear (my son said the smoke had a copery taste). after it cleared the van started and drove fine. this is after having the alternator replaced (for the third time) just last week. the technicians at the shop have never seen these kinds of problems before and the guy at interstate battery said he has never seen a car deplete a battery like mine does. with all these issue being associated with the words melting, charring, smoking, it really concerns me that one day my van is going to catch on fire or blow up and this is not normal for any vehicle, but especially one that has been taken care of and maintained. i have friends with the same van and similar mileage (155,000) and they have not had any of these issues. i contacted dodge who referred me to the nhtsa and the local dealership. please help!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the electronic locks were locking and unlocking automatically regardless if the vehicle was on or off. the horn would also randomly sound when the engine was running and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. dodge of burnsville (12101 highway 35w south, burnsville, mn 55337, (952) 894-9000) stated that the tipm needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,000. the manufacturer provided a case number and stated that the vehicle was repaired in 2015 for the power module by the same dealer. the failure mileage was 67,500.

The van's engine shutdown while my wife was driving the van at night and barely had enough time to pull to the side of the road before losing control of steering. she had just made a right turn onto the highway. towed the van to a local dealer and found the issue to be the diode on the alternator failing causing electrical feedback to the powertrain control module (pcm). so had to spend a lot of money to have the alternator and pcm replaced. i am aware other vehicle lines of 2011 have a recall for this specific issue and am unsure why the dodge grand caravan is not on the list. there needs to be an investigation and have this vehicle added to the recall.

My 2011 dodge grand caravan has stalled out on us 3 times on the freeway with no warning. after waiting got about 40min. to an hour it starts right up like there's no problem. recently the van stalled out while i was towing my small camper. when i take it to get checked out no problem can ever be found. this is so dangerous and there should be a recall on this. this other article i recently read at www.chryslerproblems.com/trends/tipm/ actually says 2011 dodge grand caravan has this issue mostly than other years. this is very unsafe. i have read multiple complaints online of many many people having the same issue and this is extremely unsafe. the part is very expensive for us to fix when the company knows about this problem. thanks,

2011 dodge grand caravan r/t 79900 miles intermittent failure to start. intermittent stalling after starting. stalled on street after leaving driveway. no check engine light indicated on dash. just bought the car used from a dealer.

Vehicle died suddenly on the road on april 13, 2018 due to alternator failing. o'reilly auto parts confirmed that the diodes failed on alternator. existing recall on the durangos, chrysler, and jeeps but not grand caravan for this particular problem with alternators. burning smell under the hood of the vehicle coming from the alternator as well.

Tipm issue just recently bought a 2011 grand caravan with 107000 miles on it. it began having issues with intermitten starting and the side doors would open while parked. after some quick research i read about the tipm issue that is well known. i found a dealer selling the recall kit used on these, cbwpr091aa - wiring - fuel pump relay. i installed the fuel pump relay and all is better now. i just hope there is not more to this issue.

My van seemed to have a mind of its own. starting sometimes then more and more often not starting! i went to 4 different mechanics and was repeatedly told that nothing was wrong. eventually, i was bringing my van into a dealership to fix a recall and while there they told me that my vans tipm is the problem and needs to be replaced! this wouldn't be a problem with me if my extended warranty covered it, it doesn't! this tipm deal cost $1480.00 dollars! i can't afford anywhere near$1480.00 dollars and now it's in the shop not starting at all! what can i do? how is this not recalled with so many cases? is there really no one who can help?

Tipm failing. we began having issues with what was thought to be fuel pump and have had the car in the shop to replace the fuel pump without resolution. i was recently driving and had the car shut off on a 55mph zone of a highway with 3 kids plus myself and husband in the car for 45 minutes blocking a lane of traffic while waiting to be towed. we have had the car strand us in various locations 5 times since we bought the car 08/17. we have been researching that it looks to be the tipm that is malfunctioning and causing the fuel pump to run randomly, sometimes continuously for hours draining the battery, or stop running causing the car to die due to lack of fuel while having all headlights, wipes and interior lights functioning. the tipm has caused me to block lanes of traffic on highways, business driveways and be stuck in parking lots 60+ miles from my home due to the fuel pump not shutting off when the car is turned off.

I started having electrical issues with my 2011 dodge grand caravan last year around 107k miles. started with needing a new alternator & battery, van wouldn't start. two months later, the van isn't starting again and the mechanic recommended to replace the fuel pump which i did. it was still not starting and they found that the tipm went out and i fully believe this should be recalled. very disappointed in the lack of recalls for the grand caravans when the same year of durganos and jeeps are being recalled for the same thing!

Trying to get new key fob programmed is unsuccessful due to problem with the win module. it is my understanding that this is a common problem for dodge caravans or any vehicle with the fobik system manufacturer between 2008 and 2016. locksmith suggest that a new win module be installed with new key fobs

Faulty fuel pump relay in tipm causing vehicle to stall or not start at all mechanice says need new tipm stalled on freeway lucky to dodge traffic get to side of road and have vehicle towed

Started van one morning and left running to warm up, came back outside and it had died. the wipers were mid-windshield. turned the key and dash lights illuminated. the van would not start but made a ticking noise upon turning the key. 2 days later i stopped to get fuel in the van. it hesitated to start, but did start. headlights were very dim and faded in and out. put a code reader on the computer and it threw a low battery voltage code. put a voltmeter on the battery and it read about 10 volts while the van was not running. while the van was running the voltmeter read about 14 volts so it is charging. have had several instances where power windows would not work or power doors would not open and had to be manually opened.

There is a issue with the vehicle not starting. it started out as imttermittent and now is becoming pretty regular. i replaced the batteries in my key fobs, and there is a new battery in the vehicle. also when you shift from reverse to drive it is a hard shift. i looked online and this seems to be a big problem with dodge, many others are experiencing the same thing. it would seem to be a tipm problem with faulty relays.

February 2,2018 dodge grand caravan turned off and parked in drive way my daughter comes in and said the van sounds like it's still running went out and heard what she heard also check on this three times before going to bed( this noise came from the gas tank). the next day 02/03/2018 noise was not there anymore. i had schedule recall work to be perform on 02/05/2018 but re-schedule with service advisor for 02/06/2018 car would not start key stuck in ignition switch. tow truck picked up 02/07/2018 took to dealership explain what happen i was told by the service advisor to expect a call on friday 02/09/2018 call came dead battery(new battery 01/24/2018) and the tipm kit was needed. this vehicle 2011 dodge grand caravan tipm should be listed as a recall. i started last year having starting concerns with this van not wanting to start.

After driving at highway speeds for 2 hours, when returning home and shutting off the engine, i heard whirling noises coming from my fuel tank. upon moving the vehicle, 30 minutes later, the van experienced a rough start. the following morning, the battery was dead. after jumping off the vehicle, it ran smoothly but i am concerned this will happen again.

My tpim is bad found out after getting my alternator, battery, and starter replaced. it is not sending signal to my fuel pump.

I have posted complaints for 2 years with same problem regarding the tipm however i was reading the reason of not being recalled is because all the tipm systems will malfunction regardless how many times it's change. if this is so why they don't recall all this vehicles.? i've been stuck numerous of times, replaced (2) $200 batteries bc the tipm eats the battery. i have children and it is not fair to be stuck in the middle of no where when car deciders not to turn on.. make it a recall for even exchanged for another vehicle where wie will be safe.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the vehicle experienced a loss of power while traveling highway speeds. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to mark thomas motors (2315 santiam hey se, albany) where it was diagnosed that the tipm was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system). the manufacturer informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall and to contact nhtsa due to them being the responsible party for the recall. the failure mileage was approximately 250,000.

Tire pressure sensor light is always on, fuel pump runs after the vehicle is shut off, automatic rear doors open and close intermittently with out the push of the buttons. we have had to replace 4 batteries and 3 alternators, every time the dealership tells us this is a common issue with the tipm. previously we have also replaced the transmission and the engine has needed repairs. engine repairs were covered under a recall but not the transmission.

Friday morning (oct 20, 2017) vehicle was driven momentarily, then immediately parked because the engine light was on. vehicle was not moved, started, or key cycled after it was parked. then on tuesday (oct 24, 2017) around 8:18 am, smoke and then flames were visible coming from the engine compartment, left side. left tire/brakes not involved. *dt 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*jb

My 2011 caravan is having serious issues when attempting to crank. at times the engine will continuously turn over when attempting to start engine. it completely drained my 1 month old to battery. i took it in to the dealership today for recall t33 and i stated the ongoing issues. they preformed a diagnosis test (i pd $165) and stated the tipm needs to be replaced for $1475. after some research, i've noticed this is an ongoing issue with many 2011+ caravan owners. my issue began is 2015 (85,000 miles) with an intermittent click when attempting to start my van. now, obviously the issue is progressing. seeing there is a history of issues with tipm, dodge should be compelled to issue a recall. please contact me for additional information.

Airbag light is on constantly - never turns off. seat belt light will sometimes come on even when seat belt is secure. fuel pump doesn't stop running after engine is shut off. while driving, all lights will come on on dash and gauges/headlights will flicker then car will die. has happened more than three(!) times at night on busy highway with 2 toddlers in car!!! had to pull off road in complete darkness. i am fearful of driving this car. i will not drive at night anymore.

Tipm had to be replaced due to electrical instability with the fuel system. same tipm that was involved in the 2014 recall for the dodge durango and jeep grand cherokee. vehicle would not start or would not stay running. no power to the fuel pump. new tipm was redesigned and had to have 5 pages of instructions to rewire the new tipm to fit in to vehicle.

The vehicle stops running without warning. it has occurred on three occasions: once at a slow speed (25 mph) on flat terrain, going uphill at 57 mph, going down hill at 45 mph, all in good weather conditions and traveling in a straight line. the car cannot be immediately restarted, but after a period of minutes will restart. the engine seems to be in good condition and has plenty of power. there appears to be no engine/mechanical reason for these events. the events leave no trace or error message that can be obtained by our mechanic. if this power outage occurred when in the passing lane, crossing a rode at an unprotected intersection or other condition where stalling out randomly would leave us or others in a life threatening situation it would be terrible. we have been forced to stop driving the vehicle for fear of injury or worse.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge caravan vehicle would not immediately start owner became stranded fuse faulty, electrical fault the contact stated that while attempting to start the engine the vehicle would not immediately start. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer jim rieho jeep(32899 van dyke, warren mi.) who replaced the starter but the failures continued to occur. the contact discovered a tsb(08-02411 rev-a) related to the failure which referenced the m27 fuse repair. the m27 fuse was pull out and reset and the failure was corrected. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 110,000.

For the last month i have been having trouble starting the van. turn the key, radio and dash lights comes on but the vehicle will not start. try several times and eventually it will start. took van into repair shop and they replaced the battery; however, still having the unreliable starting issue. took into a dodge dealer and they said couldn't find anything. starting to question if it is an issue with the tipm - this is the van i use to transport my children around, concerned when you read the additional issues if it is a defective tipm.

In july 2017 my 2011 dodge grand caravan was brought to my dodge dealership due to problems starting and the stalling of vehicle while on the road. dealership felt it was the fuel pump which was covered under my vehicle protection plan. my car was given back to me approximately 3 days later. my husband picked up the car and within 4 hours, car gave difficulty starting and stalled while driving at a major intersection. dealership was contacted the very next morning and car was brought to back to the dealership. it was then discovered that the tipm of the car had to be replaced. this unfortunately is not covered. my issue is that if the car is stalling at intersections and possibly endangering the life of myself and my children in the car.. how can this not be covered? how can there not be a safety recall? i am lucky that the car did start back up, but i now fear driving this vehicle.

Wont start . fuel pump doesnt run at times , no fuel no start . at times it runs & stops on road . verry dangerous in traffic . windows roll down by themself . doors un lock by themself . dealer doesnt know what is wrong i am told . the dealer says the problem may be the tipm computer but will not say for sure . but they will replace it if i want, for 1200.00 no guarantee it will fix it . these vehicles with this type of computer should be recalled . they are a danger tothe public . when driving on road they will stop running because of fuelpump & tipm are not working correctlu .

Car was not able to start with clicking noise. also fuel pump was still running long after car was turned off and exited. problem was the tipm. this is a recall for other dodge models that are 2011 yet it is not for my van. this is over a $1000 problem to have dealership change the tipm. now my airbag light is on. i'm finding mass of people had this problem because of water intrusion in connection in engine compartment. how is this not a recall? that should be a water sealed connection to prevent airbag system shutting off. we were stationary, car running, light came on.

Car shut off while driving, will not crank or turn over. power trans module issue after a recall that reprogrammed the power trans module.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. occasionally, after inserting the key fob in the ignition, the vehicle would not start due to a loose part inside the ignition switch. in addition, while driving, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to jacksonville chrysler in jacksonville, florida where it was diagnosed that the tipm module was faulty and needed to be replaced. the contact also indicated that both sliding back doors randomly opened and the front windows would sometimes fail to close. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 68,000.

Own a dodge gran caravab 2011 with 83000 miles, suddenly one day, started having issues when starting the car, troubleshoot everything, starter, changed relays, gas pump and nothing, took it to the mechanic and couldn't find anything, sometimes the car start and sometimes it doesn't. it cranks but it doesn't start. checked on line and it looks like a lot of dodge or chrysler having same issue, fuel pump relay tipm is malfunctioning. this ahould be a recall already. i need to change the fuel box for $1000 or buy a bypass made for (wd) dodge durango (wk) jeep grand cherokee from recall safety recall r09 / nhtsa 15v-115 fuel pump relay. i am attaching recall for dodge durango.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v234000 (electrical system). while the contact's wife was driving 35 mph, she heard clicking and popping noises coming from the front driver's side door and noticed smoke. the front driver's side door caught fire. the fire department was called and extinguished the fire. a fire report was filed. the manufacturer sent an independent inspector to investigate the incident and ultimately stated that chrysler had no responsibility for the fire. the cause of the fire was not diagnosed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact's insurance company stated that they would attempt to repair the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 66,550. *tt *js

Takata tipm problems it wont start

I have reported this problem a year ago after seeing the lawsuit on jeep cherokee and dodge durangos. having to replace the tpim module. i've seen several complaint about having to change the battery then the altenator then the tpim. i did all that and my vehicles electrical system still is giving me problems. the doors will not side open the air blows heat automatically when not even on and now won't even start. problem after problem and still no recall. there has been hundreds of complaints about faulty tipm's and even a lawsuit. the dealership say's they don't know what the problem is but each person i've seen complain shares the same problem. first told it's the battery then the altenator then the tpim. why has this not been recalled. dodge knows this is a problem or they wouldn't have settled a lawsuit about the cherokee and the durango. this is not right at all and we need help fixing this issue asap.

I purchased my 2011 grand caravan in july 2012 an have had several problems with it ever since. there have been multiple instances of the engine stalling while driving and/or my vehicle not starting. i have since troubleshot this down to the fuel pump relay being faulty in the tipm. i have also had issues of un-commanded opening and closing of the rear sliding doors while parked. i also get an random flicker of the airbag light on dash with audio tone. these issues were discussed with a mechanic at the local dodge dealership when having a recall performed on the "misfire" issue. i was told that the software was updated and i should not have any more issues. that has definitely not been the case. one of the above mentioned issues occurs on a weekly if not daily basis. i do not feel safe putting my family in this vehicle!

The eco fuel button is stuck and is making my check engine light go on and off. also the switch for the air/heat turns on by itself, it's a safety hazard knowing that this happens randomly. both of these things happen anytime the car is on. continues to happen driving or not.

Van stalls and sometimes will not start back up . this has happened a few times on the highway so i can no longer drive the van as this problem is getting worst every day my husband drives it to work and has had the same problem as i have had with the van. we are thinking of trading it in but don't want anyone to get suck in the middle of the highway

My van is cranking but not turning over. there are several recalls for the same issue for other dodge and chrysler vehicles but not mine. it states when researching it's a tipm issue.

Car will not start, will crank but no turn over. it will only start if i bypass the fuel pump relay. this is an ongoing issue with dodge/chrysler and some vehicles have been recalled for this fault tipm but the caravan hasn't. this is a safety issue as the car will stall at any moment while driving if does start to begin with.

I've had my van since october 2016, 60000 miles on odometer at time of purchase. january 29 and february 1, 2017 the car has completely shut off while driving. on january 29, i was on the highway doing 65 mph. feb 1, i was leaving my job's parking lot and later a grocery store parking lot. the lights flickered each time and the van then 'died'. it restarted when i tried. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle vibrated abnormally without warning. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal with excessive force in order for the shaking to stop. additionally, the service engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle on several occasions. the contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to immediately start. several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. the contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the fuel pump relay needed to be replaced. jeep, chrysler dodge ram & fiat of ontario located at 1202 auto center dr, ontario, ca 91761, 909-390-9898, was contacted by phone in attempt to purchase the necessary part for repair. the contact was informed that due to nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system) the part was unable to be purchased. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000. the vin was invalid.

Tl* the contact owned a 2011 dodge grand caravan. while the vehicle was parked, it caught on fire. there were no injuries and the vehicle was destroyed. the fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. a fire report was filed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the vehicle was inspected. the inspector did not find a defect with the vehicle. the vehicle was also inspected by the fire department were it was determined that the cause was a defect in the rear passenger window. the failure mileage was unknown.

The vehicle does not start intermediately and has been diagnosed as a problem with the fuel pump relay embedded in the tipm that cannot be accessed or repaired by normal means. this defect can cause the vehicle to shut down without warning causing a great safety problem. this same problem was experienced by the dodge durango and other chrysler vehicles and a recall was issued to fix this problem.

Driving straight, approx 35 mph on 2-lane state highway passing through small town with rush hour traffic on both lanes and no shoulder. with no prior warning, all red instrument warning lights went on at once, including fuel pump/throttle, brakes and others. car stalled dead and instantaneously lost power to steering and brakes, was impossible to control. would not restart. fortunately driver was able to steer vehicle partly off road into a driveway of busy store, blocking driveway to customers. state police were unable to get car in neutral to push to safe location. police ordered car towed and it is currently awaiting diagnosis for totally integrated power module("tipm") failure at dodge dealership. this was a life-threatening failure and if it had happened at nearly any other location or in adverse weather there would have been injury or death to driver and passengers. we have tow receipt. we don't know whether state police filed incident report. many similar tipm failures of dodge and chrysler vehicles have been reported to nhtsa and you have recently rejected a center for auto safety petition for nhtsa intervention regarding this defect. chrysler/dodge is well aware of the problems with the tipm because 80,894 jeep wranglers and dodge nitro vehicles were recalled in 2007 for the same problems. in that recall, defective tipms had a software problem that could cause the engine to stall. nhtsa should require dodge to recall every model that has this same tipm installed and to immediately warn the public that their lives are in danger every time they drive their dodge/chrysler vehicle. it is unconscionable that the manufacturer and nhtsa have previously been informed of this dangerous defect and failed to protect the american public.

Our vehicle was hard to start, and would sometimes stall while driving. after doing a bit of research on all possible solutions, it only worked when bypassing the fuel relay. this is the same problem that affected the durango and grand cherokee with their tipm. *tr

My tipm failed while driving on a highway near my house. fuel delivery cut off while driving. the vehicle fortunately had enough momentum to get back home, but will not start at all. diagnosed as a faulty tipm module. doing some research, nhtsa has previously recalled a very similar tipm in the grand cherokee and durango, essentially allowing chrysler to recall the vehicles and install a new relay that bypasses the tipm and allows fuel to flow. i encourage nhtsa to expand this recall to all affected 2010+ chrysler vehicles with tipms in the strongest possible terms. i am very lucky that i wasn't stranded or seriously injured. many other similar complaints exist online and even in the nhtsa forums.

Tipm failure resulting in fuel pump not able to operate correctly.
